conservatives need to use purchase power

That would be great if some Tom Wolfe-type journalists/novelists would emerge with a popular audience, but conservative consumers would have to go out and actually p-u-r-c-h-a-s-e their work.
The problem is that conservatives don't always put their money where their mouths are.
If conservatives want to sustain their beloved ideas within the marketplace, they have to fork over some m-o-n-e-y to support their work.

How many conservatives pay for a subscription to The Weekly Standard, or Reason, or Human Events, or National Review ?
According to the official paid subscription numbers of those magazines---not very many.

How often do conservatives complain that there isn't a movie they feel comfortable taking their kids to see, or there isn't a movie with a "Christian" protagonist---or there aren't any documentaries which counter Michael Moore's trash ?
Well, Ben Stein just put out a documentary called "Expelled" and it really underperformed at the box office.
Where were all the evangelicals who make a career out of whining about the secular leftist indoctrination of public schools ?
Why didn't those people put their money where there mouths are to go see "Expelled" ?

"Amazing Grace" came out over a year ago, it had a Christian protagonist, and a history lesson, but it also did not do particularly well at the box office.

"The Nativity Story" was another recent film which was tailor-made for a similar audience, yet not a whole lot of people paid to see it.

So guess what happens when producers with a similar religious or 'conservative' themed script seek financing for a film ?
The potential financiers look at the box office take for similar-themed films and say, "Well, it doesn't look like there's a big market for such a film---I don't want to risk my capital for a movie that won't bring me a good dividend."

But...
I personally would rather see another Washington or Jefferson.

But, if we could combine their DNA, we could create a Super BuckleyWolfe-man who would be able to destroy and shame a political establishment with the power of his stunning wit alone.

We could also try to make him 50 feet tall and able to shoot lasers from his eyes. That would help.
