Buckley to Diss Dad in New Book?
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 9:55 AM

You may recall Christopher Buckley's controversial article last year, "Sorry Dad, I'm Voting for Obama," which promptly ended his writing at National Review

At the time, several people remarked to me that, prior to the controversy, they had never even heard of Chris Buckley (which is odd, inasmuch as he has written many books, including "Thank You for Smoking.")

Regardless, I am now hearing from two independent and reliable sources that Buckley is writing a new book, which will take some shots at his late famous father, William F. Buckley, Jr

Conservatives, of course, revere William F. Buckley as a conservative intellectual who founded National Review, and as the man whose ideas and arguments helped pave the way for Reagan.

From what I am hearing, it sounds like the younger Buckley will argue that his father was more interested in fame and self-promotion than in advancing the conservative movement.

Ironically, it may well be that the younger Buckley is stirring up this controversy to get attention himself (and to finally get out from under old man's shadow).

We will have to wait and see how this pans out, but I'm not liking the sounds of it...

God I hope not
Chris Buckley should do more "Thank You for Not Smoking" and less pandering to "The One" and his liberal salon buddies and trying to show he is not a conservative like those knuckle draggers at NRO. He should model himself on Tom Wolfe.

Yeah right
Hypocrite.

Both Buckley's are libertarians. All the supposed respect for William Buckley went right out the window as soon he turned against the Iraq war. Any libertarian worth a grain of salt is against Nation Building.

So what did you do to William F. Buckley after he opposed the Iraq War? Ignored him. They way Ron Paul got ignored. They way the rest of us libertarians get ignored because we opposed the Iraq War.

I call you hypocrite. You all changed your respect for Buckley after he opposed the War.

Chris Buckley
Disrespecting his father for 15 minutes of Liberal adulation would complete Chris Buckley's journey to the Looney Left.

Acorns don't fall from the Tree?
But some of them are rotten! Ron Reagan Jr. is a good example. They have no merits of their own except to ride the coattails of famous fathers and if they disgrace dear old dad then all the more fame and attention for them. 15 minutes of fame is worth it to some ungrateful kids. Unintentionally we give them their notoriety by just reporting their actions and opinions. Catch 22.

Pathetic
This guy is trying to go down the Ron Reagn Jr, path of imfamy. It didn't work too well for Ron Jr. and I have a funny feeling its not going to work out too well for Mr. Buckley either.

The so-called "conservatives" who played footsie with Barack Obama are about to learn a very hard lesson. When the Obama train derails (heck, its already beginning to happen), the nitwits like Buckley and Noonan are truly going to be men and women without a country.

Figures
It figures that the Townhall crowd is upset over this.

You people are not Conservatives in the Buckly mold. You are George W. Bush Neo-Cons who have no concept of the most basic, fundamental Conservative ideals.

I hope Buckley writes a scortcher.

Basic, Fundamental Conservativism
I'm fairly certain Bill Buckley, if alive today, would be horrified by the monstrous pork-ridden "stimulus" bill Obama and the Democrats are about to pass. I'm also fairly certain Bill Buckley would find any attempt by the government to nationalize the health care industry to be abhorent as well. And Bill Buckley would also be scratching his head about the Obama's support of tax-payer subsidized abortion.

Only a liberal could concoct a fantasy in which somehow doubling the size of government spending, dangerously inflating the money supply, offering tax-payer abortion subsidies, and attempting to nationalize health care would be synonymous to "basic, fundamental conservatism".

The only thing Christopher Buckley is showing by writing this book is his own cowardice. If he thought his father was a fraud, he could have written this book years ago when his father was alive instead of now when his father is safetly in the grave.

wrote a tell all book about his father Bing. He wound up looking and sounding like the pathetic whiner he was doomed for eternity to circle the Oprah-ish afternoon talk show circuit blubbering about his unhappy childhood - perhaps hoping Oprah would cradle his head on her bosom. I pray this is not another boring, self-serving, tear fest book about lost childhoods and perhaps a reasonable critique of how his father could have done better with advancing conservative causes. If not, here's a tissue for your issue in advance (along with the book advance).

I have never heard about a Conservative that has written for public consumption anything derogatory about a dead parent. Maybe it has happened but I haven't seen it and by definition such a person would be a Liberal.

I just don't understand why anyone would do such a thing no matter what they thought of their parent or how how much the parent, dead or alive, deserved criticism or even condemnation,

I think such persons are some of the lowest people existing outside of the class of criminals that commit evil crimes.

Christoper Buckley and Ron Reagan
Both apparently lacked the love of their father, are both are gay as a result, and justifiably feel the need to retaliate.

Perhaps so. But doesn't make them any less the pathetic whiner. Lots of men grow up in households or situations less than "nuturing" but somehow rise above it to become worthwhile men versus crybabies blubbering and bawling on Oprah.

"Thank You for Smoking"
The phrase originated in Poudre Park, CO by a friend of mine. He's made a good living with it.

Re: Chris Buckley.

"If you're a Republican when you're 20, you have no heart. If you're a Democrat when you're 40, you have no brain."

Chris Buckley, like all Democrats, has no brain.
