Rudy's Political Fire Fight
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 5:33 PM

Firefighters, ostensibly a group which should be pro-Giuliani, are trying to Swiftboat Rudy Giuliani.  This is from their website:

"Rudy has used the horrible events of September 11 to create a persona that is an elaborate fabrication," says IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger. "He is nothing more than a shameless self-promoter."

Of course, it would be more correct to point out that this is a Firefighter's Union.

Rudy's campaign fired back today with a press release showing the IAFF is, in fact, a partisan organization partisan:

In 2004, “IAFF Was The First Labor Union To Endorse Democrat John Kerry's Race For The President, And Its President Was At Kerry's Side Through Much Of The Campaign.” (Fox News’ “Special Report,” 3/8/07)

IAFF Did Not Poll Its Members Before Making Kerry Endorsement. “‘I think the thing that really teed off a lot of firefighters was that nobody was polled about that,’ said David Powell, a nonunion member who serves as chief of the all-volunteer Reedley Fire Department. ‘The members were not asked about it.’” (Michael Doyle, “Union's Support Ignites Firefight,” Fresno Bee, 8/8/04)

IAFF PRESIDENT HAROLD SCHAITBERGER IS PARTISAN DEMOCRAT

Schaitberger Was “One Of Eight National Cochairs Of John Kerry's Campaign.” (Matthew Continetti, “How To Stage A Controversy,” The Weekly Standard, 3/22/04)

“Schaitberger … Appeared On Stage With Kerry When He Claimed His Iowa Prize [In 2004]…” (James O'Toole and Bill Toland, “Fight For Firefighters' Favor,” Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 4/25/04)

Schaitberger At Kerry Endorsement Press Conference: “[T]he Bush Administration Has Thrust Our Nation Into The Worst Economic Crisis Since The Great Depression” (IAFF, “Fire Fighters Endorse Kerry for President,” Press Release, 9/24/03)

JUST TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT!
FIRST..... The largest single doner to political campains sence 1989 is "The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees", always donating to the Democratic party.(OPENSECRETS.ORG) Proving that our factories may all be in China, but our GOVERNMENT WORKERS are all UNION WORKERS!.......How convienant, to organize workers that don't have to make a profit!

SECOND......And yes, "RUDY IS STILL A SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTER!".....And has no business on a GOP Presidential Ticket!

THIRD......"When the last conservative leaves the GOP, please turn out the light!"

GREAT POST!!!
one hot minute writes: Wednesday, July, 11, 2007 9:48 PM
good job, Matt Lewis

Kudos to you, Matt Lewis, for including the key part about all this being nothing more than a partisan hit-job by the fire fighters union.

All government employee unions favor the Democratic Party and big government spending---that's the party who holds the jam and butter for their bread.
And that's why the unions recently favored doing away with the secret ballot for union voting---because they wanted to be able to weed out the members who weren't toeing the Stalinist---er, I mean, the UNION line.

Ultimately, the fire fighters' union in NYC thought Rudy was too fiscally conservative.
So I don't want to hear anymore of this "Rudy is a Democrat" silliness.
If he really were "a Democrat," wouldn't his life in NYC political circles been so much EASIER if he had simply run/governed as a DEMOCRAT ?

Look at all the Democrat enemies he has made !

Will not have same impact
If the firefighters are trying to "Swift Vet" Giuliani, they are going to fail.

Reason, the entire country saw his leadership on TV after the horrors of 9/11. As a New Yorker, I can say his leadership was exceptional.

The reason why the Swift Vets were so successful with John Kerry, his military record was unknown. He ran as a military hero with three Purple Hearts. When in fact his Purple Hearts were scratches and most who served with him found him to be dishonest. Not to mention his testimony to Congress where he lied about act of his fellow soldiers.

RUDY IS A RINO LOSER......
Rudy is only famous because of Sptember 11th. If Mickey Mouse was mayor at the time, Mickey would be the nominee.

Rudy is as inept as Michael Moore is a fat tub of crap. And being the shameless self promoter that he is, Rudy just will do anything to advance what Rudy wants...all for himself.

Rudy was seen as a "conservative" by New York City political circles, but coming from a socialistic cesspool like NYC, it's easy to see the warped standards they live by.

Rudy will guarantee a Democratic victory in 2008 if he is the Republican nominee. And not having the intestinal or testicular fortitude to stand up, and withdrawing from the race, he is hell bent on destroying any Republican chance in 2008.

You cannot say one thing, and have been proven to do otherwise.

Rudy, too right for New York, too wrong for America.....

Without appologies........

blame the unions ... oh so gop
all unions support democrats? one hot minute do you have even a passing acquaitance with reality ... here let me help you:

This image of Rudy Giuliani as America's mayor, it's a myth," said Steve Cassidy, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, which represents about 9,000 firefighters.

Cassidy said that his union supported George Bush in the last election and had supported George Pataki for governor of New York.

"It's not about Republicans, it's about this Republican," he said.

how much clearer can you get? or is your brain so full of mush you cant understand what other republicans are saying. one hot minute you sound as intellectually dishonest as lewis and other neo-con blow hards ... typical of what is wrong with the present republican party.

Giuliani
Why doesn't the New York Times just get it over with and fully endorse their puppet Guiliani already.

The race is to the Swift
The SwiftBoaters told the truth about John Kerry. I believe you mean that the Firefighters Union is trying to smear Rudy with lies.

ONE HOT MINUTE
You couldn't be more accurate.

One of the reasons that makes Rudy so great is that both Republicans and Democrats like and dislike him. And that is a breath of fresh air.

uh bama
You do see where Matt posted all the links to the UNION THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT IN THIS ARTICLE consistently supported democratic candidates and is now taking shots at one of the frontrunners in the presidential race. (HINT - THATS THE POINT OF THIS POST)/

Why do so many of you insist on going off topic in these threads.Wait, I know, you think it furthers your sad little agenda.
roho writes: Thursday, July, 12, 2007 9:16 AM
RUDY REVEALED SO MUCH ABOUT
himself in the debate, when he verbally "Jap Slapped" Ron Paul, and made the statement that "As Mayor, he had declined the Check that the Saudi's offered during post 911.".........Most, watching the debate had no idea that "Bracewell & Guiliani" his lawfirm and lobbying arm, ACTUALLY represents the SAUDI GOVERNMENT! They also represent Rupert Murdoch's "NEWS CORP" that owns FOX NEWS, explaining the Hannity/Guiliani lovefest after the debate.........And, they represent the Spainish Consortium "CINTRA" that is building the NAFTA SUPER HWY from Mexico to Canada.........In spite of busting the "Air Traffic Controllers Union", Ronald Reagan could still draw votes from the AFLCIO membership! Because he was genuine. Rudy will never be able to do that, and looks as silly on an Elephant as Ducakis did on a Tank.

INTELLECTUAL HONESTY
While I disagree with both roho and this GWB character, only one is actually being honest about what they believe.

roho is honestly upset about different positions Giuliani has taken and obviously is a staunch "conservative".

The GWB guy/gal here is totally dishonest with his/her posting. This person has time and again bashed anything Republican and backed everything Democrat here at townhall. Without even coming close to using his/her real name, GWB acts disgusted about Giuliani and attacks him as such. If the mayor of NYC did the same thing that GWB here accuses Giuliani of and was a Democrat, GWB here would be praising the mayor as a true and proven hero. This GWB person here is a left-wing partisan and wouldn't stick up for anything good by a conservative or Republican.

Right/left, conservative/liberal. There are heros on all sides of the political spectrum. Unfortunately partisans are stuck in the mud with hatred towards anybody who doesn't have the correct political affiliation. And GWB here is a perfect example.
SGRivette writes: Thursday, July, 12, 2007 3:42 PM
well then
If you come here simply to bash Republicans, you have admitted what I stated. And it also makes you a troll. If you can't listen to talk radio anymore, then you really have no reason coming here because of all of us brainwashed conservatives.

FIREFIGHTERS ARE... ALCOHOLICS

Not all, but I have known many.

Most unions in the US promote alcohol and drugs as a way to sway their members through paranoid thinking.

Most alcoholics are Democrats... and Michael Moore fans. They can't think past the intoxication to realize that they are NOT special in the least.

More black children were gunned down since 9/11 in the City of Detroit, than all who died on 9/11.

Where is their Memorial, Mr. Firefighter?

Selfish Firefighters... Never Selfless!

my comments were made in light of the claim "All government employee unions favor the Democratic Party and big government spending---that's the party who holds the jam and butter for their bread."

your spin while factually true about the article is certainly in error about the intent of the comment. try again ... if you dare.
