California's Incoming Welfare Bailout
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 5:35 PM
We've had a $700 billion financial bailout. Detroit is already upping the stakes for their $25 billion auto bailout and now Barack Obama is promising struggling state governors they're going to get theirs, too.

“To solve this crisis and to ease the burden on our states, we need action, and action swiftly,” Obama told members of the National Governor's Association today in Philly.

There,Obama met with GOP California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger whose state is on pace to face a $28 billion shortfall by 2010, largely because of unfunded liabilities.

The previous day the governor said California was in the midst of a "fiscal emergency."

The state spent $233.6 billion in 2007, far more than any other state. $56 billion of that went to welfare expenditures, according to Census Bureau figures.
This was the second biggest expenditure category. (Education was the first). And that amount of welfare spending is a separate category from the other $17.7 billion was spent on health care and hospitals.

California State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R.)  went on KFI's John & Ken Show to talk about their state's budget crisis this evening. He said the state's liberal welfare plans are mostly to blame.

"You can game the system in California like you cannot in other states," DeVore said.  California is unlike other states because their eligibility standards for welfare benefits are more lax and they have more optional benefits, like dental care.

"If you have not invented a sound for a fiscal emergency siren yet, you need to," DeVore joked to the radio hosts.

DeVore will run against Democratic incumbent Sen. Barbara Boxer in 2010.

If you are interested in viewing 2007 state government financial reports they are all available HERE.

So in your opinion California is the ONLY place where one can become a good doctor, lawyer, civil servant, etc. The only place where we can get movies/pop-culture/ music? Really?

Seems to me there are plenty of great medical and law schools in the midwest and other states. California does not have a monoploy on good colleges. Two of the best medical facilities in the states are Iowa University Hospitals in Iowa and the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota?

Fruits and vegetables can be grown anywhere in the US, or did it slip your mind that the Midwest is the bastion of farm country and that Florida is the #1 producer of citrus?

Tennessee tops all states for volunterism, and I beg to differ on your claim that 52% of charitable donations come from California. As far as my research, the most charitable people live in the Midwest and the South. Your claims are bogus.

Pop-culture? You can keep it as it is doing nothing but creating a generation of degenerates, criminals and thugs who won't work, but opt instead to deal drugs, prostitute themselves, or worse.

Movies? Hollywood hasn't produced a worthwhile movie in years. Then look at how your "elite" in Hollywood treat conservative members of their own industy, by blackballing them. Can you say Mel Gibson?

Port? We have two coasts plus the Gulf of Mexico, so here again, you have no argument and again what you present is bogus to say the least.

You all got yourself into this mess, you all can get yourself out.

BTW, how is all of the gays rioting out there trying to thwart the will of the people going these days?

OBAMA THUMBS NOSE AT SUPREME COURT
The latest in the failure of Obama to produce his birth certificate, as required by law. If he's got a legal U.S. birth certificate, why doesn't he simply produce it? The one he put up on his WEB site, soon after he was asked about it, was clearly a fake It has been declared a forgery by experts. (gees...I could have made a better forgery than that) and when called on the fact that it was phony, he promptly removed it from the WEB site.

It should be obvious to everyone by now...he doesn't have one, because he isn't a citizen. Is he really that arrogant or did he figure in his "smug self-righteousness" that the issue would simply go away? Even his own grandmother, when questioned, stated unequivocally that he was born in Kenya. Will the Democrats then attempt to change the law, because they now control the Congress?

The Speaker of The House, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has already threatened to dissolve the Electoral College. (so fraud will be easier) Wouldn't surprise me they'd try something of the sort (it certainly wouldn't be the first time)!

WILL "SCOTUS" (Supreme Court of The United States) SOUTER TELL OBAMA TO PRODUCE BIRTH CERTIFICATE DECEMBER 1 UPDATED:
This is interesting. Souter tells Obama to produce the vault copy by December 1, 2008. (I believe the messiah will defy the Justices.)

Who will force the issue? Who wants to open up that Pandora's box? Imagine if there is something on that birth certificate that disqualifies Obama from the office of the President. What are you going to do? Start a civil war? There will be blood in the streets if the government try's to enforce the rule of law. This should have happened before the election. (Obambi knows it too.)

once again you adeptly side-step the issue by simply omitting any reference to the criticisms being leveled, and proceed to list the terrible consequences of inaction by the rest of America in CA's latest fiscal catastrophe.
The point you seem to be willfully ignorant of is that we, your fellow Americans, had 0% responsibility in creating that state's current "crisis" (and have in fact bailed out CA several times over the last few decades), nor was it an act of God.
Your refusal to address the causes of your state's budget bomb are the only reason you're having any difficulties with money at all; so you can stop your indignant posturing, put your bottom lip back where it belongs and change the political landscape in CA to one that addresses the needs of the citizenry, rather than the utopian vision of what America "should" be.

rbrown 72 right on!
As a fellow Californian and new resident of the Socialist Republic of Mexico El Norte I salute rbrown and his thought that the public employee unions run and ruin this formerly great state. Teachers give their vacation pay to those who are retiring to artificially boost the final years salaries of said retirees and viola their pension, based on their last year's credited pay, which will last for 40+ years suddenly goes way up.

This is outright theft of public money and these criminals should not be collecting any pension whatsoever. When criminal conduct is condoned and rewarded you get a whole boatload criminality.

The amounts paid by the state, counties and cities for "criminal or negligent conduct" of their employees is stupendous. I suggest that whatever is paid out under these lawsuits be deducted from the payroll budget of all government workers. The juries usually made up of a lot of government employees might think twice about awarding and rewarding millions in a sexual harassment case if the money was coming from their pocket.

"In case you haven't noticed, we the people in the red states could give two sh!ts about what happens to California. In fact we in the red states hope you all go under. We are sick and tired of California's sick and twisted behaviors infiltrating the rest of the nation with your ultra liberal nonsense at every turn."

God grief, what an irrationally angry and frightened response to a posting dealing strictly with economic considerations. Okay, well, I guess since CA is totally unimportant, evil, filthy and *gasp* liberal (which, if you know any latin at all, having liberal be a dirty word is hysterically funny), then the 52% of ALL volunteer resources and financial aid going the areas in RED states demolished by the hurricanes whihc comes for CA donors should be eliminated, no more Stanford/USC/La Jolla/Berkely/UCI med school programs that train for the US some the finest doctors, lawyers, civil servants, and business people, no more movies (including two of the largest Evangelical production companies in the country)/music/pop culture, no more produce (like avacados/strawberries/oranges/lemons), no more shipping port access that provides the highest volume of cargo receipt and distribution to the landlocked states in the country (bye bye Chinese/Japanese electronics!, I could go on and on and on.

CA is the heart of the US economy as a whole. It's like saying "well, I think the engine in my ship is BAD, so screw it, I'm throwing it overboard and pretend like I'm just going to be able to continue sailing along". Stupid and shortsighted. I find your ideologically based rancor to be alarming. I'll keep my CA whackos any day.

California Debt
Gray Davis left his legacy LOL.

The State of Califronia can drill for oil off shore and they can stop with the BS or go broke.
The American People don't owe California one nickle for allowing mexico to invade and get free health care.

Let the homo's in San Francisco up keep the State, they have destoryed any tourism, who wants to go see homo's walking up and down the streets looking for a victim, who wants to go see the drug addicts laying on the street Pi$$ing in front of other people, California can do a lot to improve thier own budget, this has got to stop, the American people has got to stop supporting Mexico.

If you all in your state started practicing responsible and practical spending behaviors you wouldn't be in the mess that you are in. If you would start voting in fiscally responsible representatives instead of the spend happy democrats you could be competitive again.

Also, in case you are unaware, your tax and spend democrats in California have driven the top 6% of wage earners (i.e. taxpayers) into other states to earn their living because the tax rate and everything else has gotten beyond ridiculous. I will also tell you that the same is happening in New York (state) and Illinois for the same reasons.

CAL bailout
AS a resident of California, legal immigrant (1957),23 yr military career (Vietnam included),homeowner, employed taxpayer. My opinion counts. This is where our country is headed with the liberals running things(Dem or Rep).
1.Show proof of citizenship or legal residency to collect any benefits.
Budget problem solved.
This is simplistic, but real.Any honest politician who crunches the numbers and sees the cost in social and health welfare, prison system, and educational system can see this.Problem is we have no honest politician in this state willing to stand up for Americans, black, white, brown, yellow or purple.

Obama might not get to bailout anyone, he is not legal, this man shall produce his real birth records or the electors will not cast their votes,
If they do without proof of obama being a natural born citizen of the USA they will be committing treason.

This is why CA must be helped
One out of every eight United States residents lives in California.

California is the first state to ever reach a trillion dollar economy in gross state product.

California has the largest economy in the states of the union.

If California's economic size were measured by itself to other countries, it would rank the 7th largest economy in the world.

Los Angeles is ranked the fourth largest economy in the United States compared to other states.

If CA sinks, guess who's coming with us? EVERYONE (including all you sparsely populated red states that rely heavily on the ports of CA and the billions of tax revuenes produced in CA)

I cannot believe how poorly this state is run... We need to STOP with the feel good liberal crap and start electing people who can get us out of this mess. I cannot afford another tax increase to cover the useless dregs of society that cal wants to coddle. Screw the lazy folks, let them suffer not the folks that do things the right way.

3 things for all...

1. America DO NOT BAIL CALIFORNIA OUT
2. Arnold, show some stones, be a republican, and stop this overspending.
3. GET RID OF THE ILLEGALS< get it, ILLEGAL how hard is that to comprehend even for you.

Let Them Have It
All of America can now pay for the lavish benefits paid to illegals in California, as well as the benefits for California's legions of domestic slaves and pedlars. This is only just. The great silent majority should be shaken down and fleeced as long as they keep their mouths shut and vote for Obama.

Open the borders wide. Let everyone in the world come to bask in our generous benefits. Let indigenous Americans toil in 2 or 3 minimum wage jobs to pay for everyone else. Let the silent majority loose their health care while they pay for the health care of people here illegally.

General Sherman said about the South during the civil war, "They wanted war. They let's give them all the war they want."

Americans acquiesced to open borders and underwriting the lives of the global community. Let them have all of it they wanted.

Bla bla bla
Seriously, I hate sounding sarcastic, but did it ever cross any of these "leaders" minds that maybe they could reduce their spending to match their resources? You know, kind of like all of us have to do? Or should I, as an individual, just go ahead and budget myself a few billion dollars over and above the resources I actually have then expect someone else to come along and pay my bills for me?

"praise" Obama, for he shall allow me to live not within my own means, but within the means of the 5%.

California Doomed
As a conservative Californian, it is sickening to see what the liberals have done to this state. The Dumbocrats have large majorities in this state and still they blame the problems on Republicans! Funny thing is: Californians continue to believe them. This last election, the Dem running for my district ran ads which essentially said, "If only we could remove the small minority of Republicans in the state legislature, we could really make things better!"

Arnold is simply a disgraceful liberal and I'm proud to say I never voted for the fool. An absolute RINO. He has become just as bad as Grayout Doofus was before we recalled him. The unions absolutely own this state, so let that be a warning to those of you who live in more conservative states: don't let the unions take over.

Oh, and I agree, the rest of the country should not bail us out. We should stew in our own juices, else the fiction of socialist prosperity will continue.
Ken the Playful Walrus writes: Wednesday, December, 03, 2008 10:48 AM
We Have Done This To Ourselves
We in California have done this to ourselves by repeatedly sending overspending, socialist, illegal-alien-encouraging, public-employee-union-beholden politicians to the state legislature over and over again, and voting for their expensive ballot propositions.

Drill for oil!
There is abundant oil off the California coast. It can be exploited easily, efficiently, and with essentially no harm to the environment or the view of Hollywood's elite. California's share in this largess would greatly enrich their coffers. If Arnold were as tough as he thinks he is, he would pursue that course of action rather than pursuing the sissy course on which he is presently embarked. Who would have thought that Arnold was such a wimp!

SCREW CALIFORNIA!!!! These people constantly vote for liberal policies and this is where it got them. No, let them take responsibility for their own actions! How are these people going to learn that you cannot run your state on liberal policies and be productive. They made their own problems and they have to fix them which means getting rid of liberalism!
