The Palin Breakout, Part 4
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 9:34 AM
What a rout.  Up early to watch the pundits on parade for a couple of hours, and the lefty talking heads and the MSM anchors are fleeing Sarah Palin like a building on fire.  No more chants of "inexperience," and only the most indirect of references to her family.  Until yesterday the collective MSM sneer was that Palin was "Hello Kitty," reeling backwards under the pressure. Now she's Gorgo, smashing up the MSM's cars.  The dismayed punditry is pondering the "meanness" of her attacks and her lack of details on health care refom.  A complete triumph over the Beltway-Manhatan media elites, but they will of course regather in Mordor and try again next week.

The Obamains decying "mean-spritiedness" are diminishing Obama the former giant slayer turned victim.  They think Sarah Palin, Rudy, Mitt and Huck are tough?  Remember Obama is scheduling meetings with Ahmadinejad, Kim, and Chavez for '09.  Disarray is far too complimentary a word to use for the Obama campaign.

CNN actually had a discussion on how Palin et al may have offended the "community organizers" of America.  Really.  Soledad had an e-mail to that effect, after all. Well, I have a virtul in-box filled to the virtual sky with e-mails like this:

I work in a small manufacturing facility in the greater Syracuse NY area.  It is pretty darn "blue" around here, but kind of a "centrist dem, labor-oriented, working class value blue-collar blue".  Not the "fever swamp truther, BushCo kind of blue".  Anyway, to the point.  No one EVER talks politics here, but the place is BUZZING with Palin fever.  Everyone's talking about her, and the most often used phrase I hear is "finally, one of us!"

The left is in serious, serious trouble.  I myself wasn't enthused about McCain, though my respect for the man's sacrifice alone gets my vote.  But now I will writing my first EVER check to any candidate. And I will gladly support the McCain/Palin ticket because she inspires me.

And this one:

I love Sarah Palin. She was gracious and very tough in her speech. The Reuters picture of her holding her son, Trig, showed a mama lion not afraid to take on those wanting to make a thousand little cuts. Check out the photo...see her solid jaw of pit bull determination. Lipstick, yeah.  She knows what I know. I am a commercial fisherman and fished, lived, and worked in Alaska for over 20 years. It is true about getting up at 3 am to hunt. I did with my husband to shoot caribou for our freezer. I don't recommend caribou for a staple red meat.
We fished for halibut, salmon, and herring for many years. What you learn is basic. Prepare to catch fish ( big investment in gear & fuel), go out and catch the fish ( mother nature can screw this up as well as the govt.) sell the fish ( market forces can go South anytime), put proceeds in the bank to live on. Results oriented. Period. Sarah Palin knows this with her hands and her mind. When this or her family are sullied, watch out. Nuance is not an issue. You don't gaze into the eyes of a grizzly bear without a fully loaded 44 pistol by your side.
Your analysis and reparte on your radio show are ever so welcome, Hugh. I have listened since I was fishing squid out of Ventura and jogged to your show in the morning in LA.

There will be reverses for McCain-Palin along the way, but enjoy today as the egg-on-face media elites and Democrats try to pretend they haven't spent 96 hours savaging a woman that America turns out to like, and respect, quite a lot.

More Obama/radical ties:
Obama Had Close Ties to Top Saudi Adviser at Early Age

Wednesday, September 3, 2008 5:58 PM

By: Kenneth R. Timmerman

New evidence has emerged that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was closely associated as early as age 25 to a key adviser to a Saudi billionaire who had mentored the founding members of the Black Panthers.

That's Why
This speech work.

She didn't have to convince lefties. They're in the tank for Obama.

But most voters in this country are not hard left. They're people with families and they have to be leery of a inexperienced, unqualified egghead metrosexual like Barack Obama.

They may have been lukewarm towards John McCain, but Palin will tip the scales.

Enjoy your trip back to the Senate Obama, maybe this time you'll be able to accomplish something there.

Donations
I would say that if McCain sees an huge outpouring of donations to their campaign that what the MSM thinks will matter little. It is after all the crucial test if a team has hit a home run. I personally know a few moderate dems that are not thrilled with Obama. Do I think they will vote McCain.. Some of said yes. Some aren't saying anything but clearly looking closer at the McCain/Palin ticket. The die heart Hillary supporters will most likely vote Obama, as he predicted and the reason he didn't care a darn about making them happy, because of the abortion issue. I think it is imperative for Sarah to clear up her stance there as far as being pro-life and wanting to see Roe vs Wade over turned. I am very pro-life but do not want women to not have access to choosing abortion because they will do it anyway and a bad situation will be made worse. I prefer that we curb abortions by making sure women are better informed about when life begins. I want that debate.

I thought the speech fabulous
I got some wild Alaskan salmon and my wife and I enjoyed it over a bed of salad as we watched the speech. Yummy.

But as good as that dinner was, the buffet Governor Palin served was even better.

And success for the GOP: That was measured by the blantant sullen faces of Keith Olberman and Chris Matthews. I thought perhaps their dogs died. They were so upset.

It was a brilliant performance. Of course, that will be the next line of attacks that she is only a good speech giver.

"Thrilla from Wasilla!"

LOL!!!

Did anybody else notice that veeps normally are supposed to take shots at their veep counterpart, but Sarah instead focused her kbar thrusts at the heart of Obammy?

Coupled with The One's defensive stance regarding his "experience" vs. McCain's veep the other day on CNN ... along with the follow-up McCain political ad yesterday (touting Palin's experience vs. the Community Organizer's?), the irony of the upside down comparison is not lost on the average Joe or Jill voter.

I have this mental picture now of Sarah Palin field dressing a moose with Barack Obama's name tattooed on its hindquarters ... working efficiently and effortlessly with the blade as she skins him out and quarters him up, for Mr. Moose's trip to the Palin family freezer.

Sarah Palin's speech last evening, followed by the family vignette on the stage with John McCain, and the image of Sarah holding her baby son on her hip - the images are powerful and so heroically American ... Sarah Palin evokes a mental image of the rugged pioneer women out on the lonely frontier, who when it was her time, took a brief break from her farm labors to squat and give birth to a squalling infant, then handing the babe off to one of the older kids before getting back to work again.

Of such stock we (at least some of us) are descended.

Danger Barack Obama Danger!
Last night’s polling shows that, by a ten-to-one margin, voters believe reporters are trying to hurt Palin’s campaign rather than help. Republicans and unaffiliated voters strongly believe that a double standard is being applied to Palin because she is a woman. Democrats disagree. Perhaps most stunning is that, among unaffiliated voters, just 42% believe Obama has better experience than Palin to be President. Thirty-seven percent (37%) say Palin has the edge on experience. Again, most of the interviews for this survey were completed before Palin’s well-received speech last night.

DS Baby on display - it's distressing
This is just a BAD pick all around. Now I'm hearing that Sarah Palin had/has an affair with a colleague? Will this end well? I'm not so sure, and for the sake of those Palin children, I will sacrifice having a Republican in office to ensure that MY family values are a consideration at the voting booth in November. I'm sick and tired of my Party bowing to the religious influence from the rightwing faction of Conservatism - and that is what this pick is all about.

Again, the issue of putting her smallest and most vulnerable child in the spotlight is, for lack of a better word: Disturbing. Sarah Palin seems capable of allowing the Party tos use this child to tug at the heartstrings of the country in general, but she derides the press for making the child an issue in this campaign? It's contradiction in the most deceptive way, and I for one, don't like what I'm seeing.

I am supremely disappointed in John McCain at this juncture. He chose a running mate who has obligations that SHOULD surmount the needs of the Party to run an effective campaign against Sen. Obama - but instead she is throwing her kids under the bus for ambition's sake. It's no wonder that her questionable family values have been under scrutiny and John McCain set us up for this. Our values are called into question when a leadership pick doesn't show that parental guidance was in play when the eldest daughter got pregnant by a thuggish 18 year old. Now they are pressuring the two to marry, while the boy seems less than capable - to put it mildly - to handle his own life let, alone a wife and child. We see a six year old still in need of mom's guidance and an infant who's special needs far out weigh the ambitious desires of his mom. And let's not forget the other teenaged child in the family, who may follow in big sister's footsteps if mom continues to be engrossed in a grueling race to the top.

A few words to describe what we saw last night and those that are truly independent saw it to:
Genuine- She is who she is
Confident- She believes what she says
Poised - No speaker to date had the negative media pressure she did and she delivered
Tough- She can take it and dish it out
A Born Leader- It’s in her DNA . How else do you explain it
Optimism - Ron Reagan had it and few do….you just feel like no matter what it going to better with her
Judgment- Last night she proved McCain has it in spades
Smile- It’s her smile that people like
The future of the Republican Party is bright and in good hands.

"Now I'm hearing that Sarah Palin had/has an affair with a colleague? Will this end well?"

Who is saying this? Nice try on selling the F.U.D.- that is, fear/uncertainty/doubt. A common practice utilized when your own product is crap.

"I'm not so sure, and for the sake of those Palin children, I will sacrifice having a Republican in office to ensure that MY family values are a consideration at the voting booth in November."

Heh? Which values do you speak of? You lay out some vague rumor, then try to link it to family values? Man, b.hussein's folks need to up their game, this is pathetic.

"Again, the issue of putting her smallest and most vulnerable child in the spotlight is, for lack of a better word: Disturbing."

Wrong. The screeching msm and left trying to say the smallest was the child of her eldest daughter, now that was disturbing as well as disgusting.

"Sarah Palin seems capable of allowing the Party tos use this child to tug at the heartstrings of the country in general, but she derides the press for making the child an issue in this campaign?"

You got that backwards, operative. But nice try on the fact fudging.

I honestly thought
that McCain's best chance of winning was to run to the middle. I think Sarah Palin pushes him to the right, which is not ultimately helpful, and I also do not think Sarah Palin is qualified to be VP (and Obama is not qualfied to be President). I thought that his experience was also a good argument for McCain, but now, despite the executive experience is better than communty organizer/legislator stuff, the experience argument is basically gone. Although Sarah Palin gave a great speech and I understand why conservatives are very excited about that and about her, the more I reflect on this, the more I think that she will hurt McCain more than she will help him in the general election.

It was not the stern, leftist, socialist pacifist speech of the Messiah before the Columns of Olympus. It was a real American speech. Now McCain needs to follow up with an energized speech to rally Pubs, Indies, Blue Dog Dems and people who are not DNC lawyers!! As an independent voter, and occasional reader of this site, I find the similarities between Obamamania and its new counterpart, Palinamania, that I see here striking.

Neither of these people have the experience required for being the Most Powerful Person on the Planet. She gave a great speech last night. So what? Obama gives great speeches.

I'm sure you will all agree that Obama's resume is very weak.

Palin's is no better. So, she's been governor of a state of 670,000 people for a year and a half. Big Wup!. That's the size of Baltimore, or Austin, or Memphis. My county in CA has five times that population, so any of my county supervisors arguably have more experience than she does. And she was mayor of a small town in Alaska for a while. Again, Big Wup! As she said herself, "It's not rocket science. It's $6 million and 53 employees." A lot of small business owners or mid level managers have that experience.

Yes, she is only going to be VP, but that's a big concern for me. What's the chance of her becoming President during McCain's term? Historically it's about 20%. Of the 43 Presidents we've had, 8 have died in office, 4 by assassination. Every President since FDR has had at least one assassination attempt, Kennedy's succeeded, Reagan was badly wounded and lucky not to have been killed.

McCain is 72. He's in excellent health reportedly and has been cancer-free for more than five years, but like all cancer survivors, he faces a risk of recurrence. Consider that generally one out of three men aged 72 die before they reach 80.

The risk of debilitating stroke, heart attack or dementia is significantly higher and always increasing for someone over 70. How often are you surprised to hear that someone in their early 70's has had a stroke or heart attack, or is starting to "lose it."

I like McCain, always have, but that doesn't mean I have to like the decision he made given the far better choices he had for VP.

Palin
Several observations. She did a good job reading a speech that the campaign worked on for 3-4 days. Let's see how she does in unscripted situations against Biden and the media. She took great pains to attack the media so I'm sure they will be looking for opportunities to make her look bad. She let us know she is a pitbull so fine, the gloves are off. No fair whining she is being picked on because she is a girl. This is the big leagues and if she wants a fight, she'll get one. Also, no more celebrity attacks on Obama after the adulation bestowed upon her. If he is The One, is she The Other One? After the glow wears off, it will be interesting to see if the women she is going after will accept her extreme view on choice. Doubtful. Many women i have talked to say they vote based on issues rather than plumbing. Best comment about her- a young Phyllis Schaffly. No way McCain tops her tonight.

Obama will need GPS to find his way to the Senate and he'll need a PowerPoint briefing in order to figure out what committees he serves on.

Truth be told, Obama shouldn't even be in the Senate. Once he blows this election, he'll just become a party line vote, which is all he was in the past.

It will give him more time to write unreadable books about how wonderful Barack Obama really is.

Always remember this, liberals "love" humanity, but they hate people. The "ideal" is more important than the individual; the "cause" takes precedence. [LOL, this coming from a man (Obama) who tried to make himself look like a god during his speech.]

First, this makes no sense at all, since I’m not Obama.

As to the columns issue, well, I think that given just how far we’ve elevated the presidency as:

- Leader of the Free World
- Commander in Chief of America (not just the armed forces)
- our Protector
- The Decider
- the continual demeaning and cowtowing of an ever weakening Congress
- An anthem that hails our 'Chief'
- the ever more common mindset that if the President orders you to do something illegal, you should assume it is legal and do it.

I think it’s a perfectly logical progression for future presidents to start showcasing the trappings of an Emperor, given that this is where the office is heading.

I was, frankly, just surprised that Obama was so open about it.

Nope, not true. I'm not a true believer for the left or right, neither party speaks for me. If you want a label, maybe I'm some sort of progressive libertarian, but I try to avoid dealing with people through labels. It makes for bad assumptions and too many misunderstandings.

I liked the Straight Talk Express John McCain more than the present version, but hope that the real John McCain will stand up after the election. I expect that I'll vote for him. That's why I don't like the Palin pick, it's an unreasonable risk IMO. Way less risky than electing Obama, but still a risk that I wish I was not presented with.

Not voting at all is another possibility. Voting for Obama or Barr, no. In any case, living in CA, a solidly blue state, my vote doesn't count for much given our ridiculous electoral college system.

Signing off, I've had my say.

Jennifer Rubin takes them to the woodshed:

Let’s stipulate that the purpose of political campaigns is to win. And the techniques and demands of modern media and pop culture require the parties find candidates whom voters actually like and with whom they can identify. Sue me. I think having an attractive cultural icon as the standard bearer for the conservative movement and for the previously anemic McCain-Palin ticket is a good thing. Like the basketball annoucer Dick Vitale says, the whole point is to “Win, baby, win.”

And if by winning, the candidate with a full appreciation of the danger of Islamic terrorism, a commitment to cutting government, a belief in low taxes, and a determination to develop domestic energy supplies reaches the White House–is all that such a bad thing?
http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/rubin/269 11

George Will hates McCain, so I am not surprised he hates McCain's pick of Palin. Will also dislikes Obama but I never really hear him express it. Krauthammer and Ben Stein just doubt the wisdom of the pick because they say it gives away the experience argument. I get that--to a point. It is a legitimate question. I disagree it does give that argument away, but I wish these guys would at least look at the glass half full. Say what you will about Gov. Palin, but she seems to have a lot more common sense than Obama and Biden combined and is very knowledgable about energy issues (which I thought was important).

Think
Its funny the thing that scares the left so much about Sarah Palin.....it that she is normal. Far to often we get rich people who(from being bored or from guilt) become politicians and tell us how we should be living our lives based on what other rich people that got them elected are telling them. It is a breath of fresh air to have a plain speaking person that most people(regardless of party) can relate to.

I don't think that McCain made a bad choice...he made a great one. Say what you will about her personal life but that only defines her as a stronger person. Do you really want a perfect robotic politician in office or someone that has been there done that and understand the most important part of this election. The average American person and family.

On a side note.....foreign policy is equal between the VP for McCain and the Presidential nominee for the Dems. Just because Obama took a trip to the middle east doesn't make his an expert on the Middle east just like me taking a trip to Mexico dosn't make me a expert either......think about that.....

Speech
CD- Of course I know they all use speechwriters, that was a comment rather than a criticism. The point is all of the things she said that the right is raving about were crafted for her so as to put her in a good light. Any good speaker could read the same speech and get applause from the convention folks. There were several lies she will have to address at a later date. She said she was against the "Bridge to Nowhere" but she actually pushed for it until it became the poster child of pork. She also said she was against wasteful spending, but she got several earmark spending projects that McCain later denounced. She attacked the media, which the right loves, but they will have plenty of chances throughout the campaign to ask her tough and probing questions in unscripted situations. It will be interesting to see how she holds up. She took off the gloves and pronounced herself to be a pit bull, so she can't expect to get any favors because of her sex. Let the games begin!

As I've surveyed the Dems and Obama and Biden's counter attacks this morning I was shocked by what I didn't see - no rebutals of the substance of her speech. Nada.

...Yes, they have mocked her hair, that her speech was written for her, that she is evil for parading a Down's baby on TV for political gains...that she was "shrill", "mean spirited", etc.. ... But not a single rebuke of the substance of the speech.

If I'm a Dem, I'm scared that the party's best and brightest can't score a single, substantive counter punch or rebuttal to the facts in the speech.

She just walked out in front of 30 million Americans and said Obama hasn't had accountabilities, hasn't written legislation, hasn't accomplished any thing in his life - and they can't answer those charges head on. Just attack her hair style!

Right up there with clinging to religion and guns, eh? Far as the quote on uneducated Hilliray women going for Palin:

"Brokaw: ...There are other Republicans who are saying, listen we'll be able to pull those Hillary Clinton voters who are not happy the way Obama treated her across the line. What are the chances of that Andrea?

Mitchel: Well, they think now that they have a story. They have a story of a working mom, she is a colorful character, an Annie Oakley... you know, Annie get your gun. They love her story, but when she tried to talk about Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania, in western Pennsylvania, yesterday at a rally with conservative Republican voters, Hillary Clinton was booed. So, she can use the Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro analogy if she wants to in interviews, she cannot use that at Republican rallies.

She is not appealing to the same women who were really voting or supporting Hillary Clinton on ideological issues but they think that they can peel off some of these working class women, not college educated, who, the blue collar women who were voting for Hillary Clinton and may be more conservative on social causes."

For all of her ranting she is still a scandal plagued time bomb waiting to crush the man's campaign. She is doomed to wilt under the spotlight outside of the preaching to choir role she has played. Nevermind the issues. Create a caricature of "small town America" and they will come says Rove. How cute!

The issues are simple: Palin made these points:

The Dems want to raise taxes when they should be lower; spend more when we should spend less; grow the goverment when it's already too big; refuse to drill when we could rationally drill and build nuke plants, and give even more money to the nanny state by weakening the military.

You and Obama are going in the wrong direction for the country. Please note Arnold Swarzennegger and the CA Pubs: 65 days and counting without a budget because the Pubs refuse to budge on more debt.....since it's already tah-dah....60 BILLION.

The Pubs are demanding spending cuts.

Half of CA's school children are children of illegals, BTW, and education is a huge part of the budget. The guv reduced all state workers' wages to fed min wage. The state controller refused. Arnold has taken him to court for defying an exec order. State workers are marching in the street. Schools don't have their budgets. Fire season is starting.

Today we heard state funded medical clinics are running out of money. The uninsured sick will not get care.

You nanny-staters are killing the Golden Goose.

BTW, did you hear that Hurricane Gustavo evacuees whining his head off? "We ain't gittin' no help. We have to spend our own money!"

What a notion!

Joe - you note the skeptical con worry
that McCain's picking Palin takes Obama's lack of experience "off the table". That seems to be the "conventional" (which is usually wrong) wisdom these days.

I beg to differ.

Since Palin's veep announcement we've had a virtually non-stop debate on nominee experience ... and most of that talk has focused on Palin's experience vs. OBAMA's experience. Even to the point that Obama gave an interview on CNN a couple days ago in which he defended his experience by trashing Palin's experience.

Which only resulted in a new McCain campaign ad yesterday that specifically compared and contrasted Palin's experience vs. OBAMA's (not McCain's) experience!

So not only do we have the spectacle of The One trying to defend his experience as being at least up to par with the other side's veep experience, but gee - the best applause lines in both the Rudy and Sarah speeches last night were about what, precisely?

Uhhhhh ... try Obama's lack of experience and non-accomplishments, and his pathetic attempts to shoot down Palin's experience to puff up his own!

Therefore, I ask everyone .... since Sarah Palin became John McCain's veep pick, what topic - beyond the silly media babbling about whether Palin actually bore her own son or not, and/or whether Sarah is woman enough to be both a veep and a mom - have we all been talkin' about non-stop?

Obambi's lack of experience, that's what!

NO WAY is Obama's lack of experience now "off the table".

Au contraire, Sarah Palin has amplified the talk about the merits of "community organizing" vs. actually being responsible for stuff.

Obama/McCain TIED in new CBS Poll!
And this was taken BEFORE Sarah's speech when a large majority of voters said they didn't know enough about her.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/04/opinion/polls/mai n4416798.shtml

The interesting thing in the poll was that while McCain is far ahead amongst those who think he would be the best Commander in Chief, he lags badly amongst 1) women and 2) those who feel he understands them and their strugglers.

On both counts, Sarah Palin scores HUGE for McCain.

P.S., I know something about how these MSM Polls are conducted and they give HUGE sampling advantages to Democrats. The truth is likely that at this point, McCain is ahead, not tied if a fair sample was used.

What the heck do people think have been going on for the last 18 months: Obama has been getting special favors because he's the far-left, barely-Black George Soros pick. He's been treated with kid gloves and everybody knows it, especially Hillary and all her supporters, who BTW has way less experience than Palin.

She kept touting her "30 years of fighting for you." Well, what kind of nebulous, nutty resume is THAT?

If Palin's unqualified, so are Obama and Hillary and yet the dang MSM feels no need hammer that fact endlessly.

Let's have this fight. At long last maybe the MSM will be forced to take a good look at THEIR candidate, who really is unvetted and inexperienced.

I liked it when he called out the religious right. I liked his election reform that's keeping corporations from running the elections. I liked that he worked to compromise instead of going for the "nuclear option." The guy could get things done by working with Dems instead of shrieking names at them.

Now he has renounced all of those positions. He's against bills he wrote. He's taken opposite positions that he had, just to please the base. Did you know he and his people had almost nothing to do with drafting the platform? The new Mac doesn't CARE about the platform. He didn't get the VP choice he wanted. Fine with Mac. All he cares about is getting through this convention by pandering as hard as he can. Anything to get elected. And all y'all who are singing his praises now were FURIOUS with him four months ago. You KILLED John Kerry with "flip-flop" noises four years ago when he pulled half this stuff. It's so hypocritical!

McCain has no integrity left. He's a desperate-to-be-elected, pandering flip-flopper now in service to a corrupt Cheney-Rove-Bush-led party that really needs to be cleared out. THAT'S what I'm mad about. And maybe four years of Obama will be just the ticket to clean the GOP up.

bradkz,
Vote as you will, of course. But it is important to separate politics and government. In order to have a shot at winning this year, McCain MUST abide by conservative politics in his campaign. It is a judgment call for us to make, to try to discern what is just politics and how McCain will actually govern.

I've also wanted McCain for president since 2000. I watched as he fell (more) out of favor with conservatives and then out of favor with the media. Obama was going to be the media's favorite no matter what. To his credit, McCain has not exploited social issues as Bush did. One cannot blame McCain for not trying to alienate what serves as an electoral base, however.

Democrats criticize McCain for not denouncing Bush, and for not choosing Ridge or Lieberman for VP. They want him to do exactly what you think he should do because it would help them win.

The media is no longer able to discern the difference between politics and government. We should not make the same mistake. McCain will undoubtedly govern much differently than Bush.

In observing politics, one must have faith and a keen eye. McCain knows that nothing is accomplished without working with others - even those he disagrees with. One cannot define a man by simply the last few years (as is done with Obama). One must consider the circumstances surrounding the politics and not take politics as a representation of how a person would govern.

Yes and no. Mack "reached across the aisle to get something done" to create bills that most conservatives object to, especially amnesty.

I understand that a democracy is built on compromises, but is it always necessary "to get something done?" if that something is ojectionable?

When is compromise just capitulation? I want a POTUS who will hang tough for what I view as Founding Principles.

How many federal laws do we have? Does Congress need to sit around making more? Many years ago doctors and nurses in Israel went on strike. The mortality rate went down.

Maybe gridlock is a good think. Just saying.

Mack has promised to veto, veto, veto, and on the other hand, is going to reach out. The problem is I don't like the current bills that bear his name.

I am not a McCain fan.... but I am a Reep.... Truth is I think the Dems and the Moderates hijacked our primaries and that is how we wound up with a guy that works harder at crossing the aisle and jumping into bed with the Dems than he does looking after Conservative values and issues... And despite what he says about "rather losing an election than a war"... he proved a willingness to stoop to low levels to win the FL state primary.... This guy is not the "model of decency" that y'all are trying to sell.... Sorry...

I will, however vote for him, cuz I think that Obama is a disaster for the country...

Poyman. Me too buddy. I don't like McCain but will vote for him this time around and work for the future of Palin types. He did do us a favor by throwing us a bone which has turned out pretty smart. McCain is not an evil man, but sincerely takes his public service seriously. Some of his stands on issues make me sick but he really does have the best interest of the nation at heart. He is a good man but a terrible conservative senator as Hugh says.
