McCain Hits Obama on Troop Visit ... But Should He?
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 7:31 PM
From a McCain press release:
"U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today released its latest television ad entitled "Troops." The ad highlights Barack Obama's record of not calling a single oversight hearing on NATO's mission in Afghanistan, not visiting in Iraq for over 900 days, not supporting our troops when he voted against critical funding in 2007 and not visiting our wounded troops in Germany when he made time to go to the gym but canceled trips to Ramstein and Landstuhl. The ad will air in key states.

Clearly, this is an issue that puts Obama on the defensive.  There is no excuse for his decision to skip this visit.

My only question is: Should McCain be the one making this attack, either in person -- or in campaign ads?

In short, wouldn't this message be better delivered by a surrogate -- while McCain stays above the fray?

... And if you agree with that statement, does the lack of 527 groups (such as Swift Boat Veterans for Truth) this cycle ironically pose a serious problem for a candidate who already has a lot of obstacles to overcome?

Greatest battles are often untouched
Obama certainly exposed his real priorities on this tour by not visiting the troops in Germany, but McCain and staff have far better battles to engage in than this one. Explaining that Obama's ideas of change have been tried before and failed, challenge his energy policies, experience or positions held before he needed our votes(3/2/2007)and those are battles that will have a greater impact.

There is a great humility, even underdog quality, in McCain that his supporters appreciate. I have hope that although his humility may keep him from playing the typical "campaign game", he will win on the side of what will be best for America. Reasonable voters will see the megalomania behind this candidate named Obama and vote against what he is representing.

This Ship Has Sailed
I saw Claire McCaskill on the Fox Sunday. I dare Obama to nominate her as his VP.

She was pretty mediocre trying to spin Obama's screw up back on McCain. Obama needs to get this off the front page. This is once instance in which Axelrod's "spin loud, spin hard, and spin often" approach won't work. The situation is too simple that the public can't be fooled. And it fits right in with Obama's obsession with preening for the cameras. In fact, I think it was a tremendous oversight in McCain's resulting ad NOT to include the picture of Obama with the female reporter during the Ritz Carlton workout.

Obama bungled this one, and he's just going to have to eat it. The hard left, I'm sure applauds Obama's omission. But I'm sure that more centrist Democrats are thinking, "How stupid could that jack*** be?"

"O"s Europe audience for Concerts mostly
Kimberly, you not only have a perception problem you have an observational short and blind sight-edness! McCain is the last person to ever ignore an injured service person and your show off Rookie who did, has no excuse. Its a matter of priorities and judgment! We learned during the Rev., Wright etc., scandal, he doesn't have good discretion or leadership power. The misguided Obama didn't even try to correct the anti-white/ America Preacher friend! How telling and how sad!

Attacking BO is a GOOD THING.

...should he? YES.
Come'on Matt. We all know the great BO has no clothes! Somebody, somewhere needs to tell the citizenry (who depend on the MSM for their politics) the truth.

DRIVE UP THOSE NEGATIVES! Respond to the whining of the beta-libs with STRENGTH and truth.

Why didn't Obama visit wounded troops?
It is quite simple: This wanna-be Commander in Chief saw no need to visit the hospitalized soldiers in Germany if the visit could not be used to further his political campaign. That should make it apparent that Obama's European tour was simply globetrotting for photo-ops and that's what I find so distasteful
Joy writes: Sunday, July, 27, 2008 9:24 AM
It is time for McCain to speak out.
McCain did the right thing to speak out against Obama not seeing our wounded troups.

Obama is a fake and the whole world now sees it, even if this liberal press trys to smooth over Obama, it is impossible to make silk out of trash.

I believe it's been reported now that the number was closer to 20,000. The 200,000 figure came from the Obama campaign - hardly a reliable source.

Where have I been? I just read yesterday that Obama's Berlin appearance was another one of those rock-concert rallies.

I realize that McCain probably couldn't get 2,000 people to an outdoor speech, but I just want the guy to govern--I don't need him to save my life. But what a crock. Who wouldn't show up for a free party?

Yet it's crickets from the media on that point. Talk about buying one's popularity.

Just remember, as Obama has pronounced, "We are the one we've been waiting for!"

What an idiot?

Barack Hussein Obama
I could draw a crowd of 200,000 too if I was giving free beer and live music. I have a hard time understanding how americans can be so hoodwinked in believing Barack Hussein Obama is this greatest thing sinced sliced bread. Oh well I guess it's a part of dumbing down America.

Visit to Wounded Troops
As a retired member of the military I would have been very offended if I was a wounded patient and looked up and saw Anti-surge/against the Iraqui War Brack Husein Obama looking down on me as a unwelcome visitor. He would have had no right to have visited our wounded men and women who may well have been wounded as a result of our now successful surge oeration that he was SO AGINST! That would have been the height of Hypocracy.

McCain
seemed to be reacting to Obama all week long. It was just frustrating to watch. He should have been controlling his own message better. He needs to talk about energy, take the press on a tour of one of those solar energy "farms" in the desert or maybe a dairy farm that is ulitizing the methane gas to run the farm. (I would love to see David Gregory walking through the muck at a dairy farm!)
He needs to meet with T. Boone Pickins and discuss the wind energy plan. The city of San Francisco is subsidizing residental solar power for some of the residents, they have to pay for $2000 of the cost. I hate SF, but that is a great idea. More state and local governments need to be encouraged to put a program like that in place. There are lots of good ideas out there. Pick them up, McCain, and make it happen!

Who Did You Figure Has The Obstacles?
July 26,2008

Barack Obama is the candidate with all the obstacles. It was obnoxious of him to snub our brave troops but that is a minuscule and forgettable affront compared to the security issues we are bound to face should McCain go down in flames. If Obama and his charisma ticket wins I think, as we used to say in New York we will all go "down the tubes", a New York City exclusive expression referring to the trains whose destination was Hoboken, New Jersey.

Keeping His Powder Dry
Congratulations to John McCain for finally pulling the gloves off and going for the Ranger Chokehold on that self serving, pompous POLS who is the presumptive, presumptious nominee of the DNC -- O is now in absolute euphoria over his Grand Tour and Triumph through the Middle East and Europe -- basking in the symbolisms and backdrops which displayed him in the most flattering lights for his own glory -- He aspires to be CIC but could not make an effort to see wounded troops because he had to make time in his schedule to pontificate to the citizens of the world in Berlin -- "Eurobamuh" is now the most popular person in the world since Bill Clinton -- Go, Johnny, Go! -- I knew you have been keeping your powder dry! -- McCain `08! --

Others Pile On
Rasmussen reports that 63% of Americans are yawing about Obama's European trip. Without looking at the poll, that suggests that 37% of Americans think it was great. So I see that as 30% to 35% Kool Aid drinkers who will vote for Obama in all events and a handful of independents who think it was peachy-keen idea.

It would have been a wash for Obama, but then he allowed a trick cigar to blow up in his face.

I have seen the ad that they've made, but I really do think they should have played up the health-club angle. That "I can't be bothered with military personnel because I gotta hit the gym because I need to look good the next time on The View" attitude fits right in to Obama's image-conscious obsession and his absolute contempt for the heart of this country.

Others are noticing.

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/07/021094.php

I say "release the hounds" on this one because Obama is incompetent, inexperienced, and incredibly un-American.

McCain could deal a knockout blow by visiting Anwar and admitting he's wrong and spend the next five weeks talking about energy.

He'd have Obama in the ICU if he traveled to San Fran and declared a get-tough policy on illegal immigrants and on sanctuary cities. Compare it to Carter and Reagan and the Iranian hostages. Iran held on to those hostages right up to Reagan's inauguration. Shortly afterward, the hostages were sent home because Iran wanted nothing to do with Reagan. Similarly, if McCain changes to a law-and-order program, I bet illegals will sprint out of the country. And rounding up the rest will take a lot less effort.

What's McCain's reluctance? Maybe someone should threaten his wife's business with some ICE raids. That might get him to act.

Answer to the question
"My only question is: Should McCain be the one making this attack, either in person -- or in campaign ads?"

The problem with using a surrogate is that "only McCain speaks for McCain". Surrogates have a habit of finding themselves thrown under the bus. Any volunteers?

I approve John's message
Right on target. This is the John I support. Plain spoken, right on target.

Obama doesn't support the troops, dispite his recent photo ops.

Let OB continuing his posturing. Mean ole John should continue to let him have it.

It's only fair. OB squeals as John tweeks;

Pretty boy will fade by November if John gets his message out in hard hitting ads such as this one.

GO JOHN!

Plain and simple "O"s troop excuse BULL
How can we have confidence in the Presidential nominee, Obama, when he can't even work out a short visit to injured troops! What kind OF Lead-
ership is that? His weak excuse leaves much to be desired. I thought he was offering a diff-erent change and hope for the better? That seens like politics as usual, self serving and insensi-tive?! Do your Inspirational thing Obama, forget about political correctness! Disillusioned ex Democrat
