Barack The Bumbler
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 5:39 PM
First he's for meeting with Kim Jong-il, Ahmadinejad, Castro and Chavez without preconditions. Then he's for invading Pakistan. And now Senator Obama is blasting the U.S. military for not fighting on the ground in Afghanistan and for the indiscriminate bombing of civilians:

Asked whether he would move U.S. troops out of Iraq to better fight terrorism elsewhere, he brought up Afghanistan and said, "We've got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there."

(HT: Instapundit.) Geraghty the Indispensable remarks:

Nope, no ground troops currently fighting, just a bunch of "air-raiding villages and killing civilians."

That's it. Too many foreign policy gaffes in too short a time. Goodnight, Senator Obama. Thanks for playing.

Can Senator Clinton afford to have such a loose cannon on her ticket?

Courting Obama
Was the DNC's hedge against the GOP making inroads with African-American voters who have been waking up to the fact that no matter how many Dems they vote for year after year their lot in life has not been significantly improved.

Blacks in America want a level playing field but the Dems have consistantly offered more of the same ol' same ol' and a growing number of black voters have started seeing through the smoke-screen.
Government handouts designed specifically to keep them on the plantation and in line have been losing their appeal over the past few election cycles, thus Obama!!!

That the DNC chose to "exploit" the least qualified black politician in the land should trouble the African American community more than just being ignored (as they have been for decades) by their supposed "protectors" (in Dem circles "protector" translates to "massa"). It was pandering to the extreme, while Howard Dean and the boys had only to sit back and let the empty suit come apart at the seams on it's own.

The DNC's message will then be - "Well, we tried." as they name 'Wild' Bill Richardson to be second chair.

Obama clearly shot himself in the foot
(if not also in the head)

Of course he can longer be considered as a running mate for HRC. He's a loose canon, and his two years total experience in national office is showing like a hip hopper's boxer shorts over his sagging pants.

He is frankly unqualified at this early stage of his political career, and its a very fortuitous thing (for the democrats) that he imploded as early as he did-before he got coronated by the msm.

Its also a shame that his ego got the better of his good judgment when David Brooks disingenuously suggested in a NYT column that he run for president.

(Barack: never trust a republican journalist to give you (a democrat)good advice. Doh!

What a bumbler. Its possible that he may have permanently disqualified himself as a viable presidential candidate.

"The Left is the monster."

No, the State is the monster, and the left is only a little worse than the right when it comes to worshipping the power of the central government. (Although frankly, I don’t know which is more misguided, thinking that you can provide universal services from cradle to grave for every citizen and illegal alien in the borders or thinking you can use the blunt instrument of military power to force the world to join hands in a field and sing Kumbaya.)

Hugh, those words don't work as lyrics in "Puff the Magic Dragon," but he's sure earned that moniker. I still think of the poor slob I almost ran off the road upon hearing Obama explain his foriegn policy qualifications as having lived abroad and being an international relations major in college. Huh?? What??? It's still hysterically funny. The guy is a complete lightweight. He's not an empty suit like Harold Ford, just an unfilled suit. Depending on what he gets filled up with will determine whether he becomes a fever-swamp pol or one who actually uses that gray-matter the seems to be between his ears.

As for the Rovian conspiracists on this thread suffering from RAME (Rovian Associative Madness Effect) compounded BDS (you already know what that means): "pop-pzzz, glug, glug, glug, glug, ahhh, GA-REEP." If what Obama said were true...
...there wouldn’t be much of an anti-war sentiment in the country. We could easily have continued shock-and-awe tactics indefinitely. American planes and ships could stay out of Iraqi range and subdue the whole country via saturation bombing (like FDR and HST did to Germany and Japan in WW2). That was the Clinton way. Keep American troops out of harms way (dead soldiers are bad publicity), just saturation bomb the Serbs and whoever else is in the vicinity (including the Chinese embassy).

The Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns have deliberately not been fought that way. 3,000 Americans have been killed and thousands of others maimed or wounded in order that thousands of Iraqi civilians didn’t have to die due to indiscriminate warfare. By in fact doing the exact opposite of what Obama falsely claims we have done, the administration has done the humane and responsible thing, even at the cost of American lives and a great political cost to the president and his party.

Extremist views
Never mind Obama's foreign policy ignorance, look at his beliefs on our own country. He is a faithful member of Trinity Church of Christ in Chicago. He describes his spiritual journey in this way:

"It was ... at Trinity United Church of Christ on the South Side of Chicago that I met Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., who took me on another journey and introduced me to a man named Jesus Christ. It was the best education I ever had,"

Here are some of Rev. Wrights comments that have apparently influenced Obama's thinking - - from an article in Newsmax that anyone even considering him as a President should read:

"White America got their wake-up call after 9/11. White America and the Western world came to realize people of color had not gone away, faded in the woodwork, or just disappeared as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns." On the Sunday after the attacks, Dr. Wright blamed America.

"The Israelis have illegally occupied Palestinian territories for over 40 years now. Divestment has now hit the table again as a strategy to wake the business community and wake up Americans concerning the injustice and the racism under which the Palestinians have lived because of Zionism."

He has used the term "middleclassness" in a derogatory manner; frequently mentions "white arrogance" and the "oppression" of African-Americans today; and has referred to "this racist United States of America."

Wright apparently blames ‘white arrogance” for all the ‘woes of the world’ and refers to the United States as “United States of White America” while every in the congregation nods approval.

Romney is attacked for being a Mormon, but Obama gets a free pass for his extreme religious views believing in racist and anti-American ideas.

He would be the worst kind of President, a bigot and racist who has believes American is the problem.

Hillary has won, by showing she is the only truly serious candidate.

She is wrapping this up so quickly that she is already beginning to move back to the middle, where she is most comfortable (I know this makes many of you laugh but it's true). She will not choose Obama, she will choose someone who will help with swing voters.

Of the current crop of presidential candidates, only Bill Richardson fills that bill. She might go with a fresh face such as Gov. Brian Schweitzer of Montana. Or someone with a military background such as Sen. Jim Webb. Whoever it is, it will be a center-left Democrat, not a wild-eyed lefty.

SANGIN, Afghanistan — A senior British commander in southern Afghanistan said in recent weeks that he had asked that American Special Forces leave his area of operations because the high level of civilian casualties they had caused was making it difficult to win over local people.

In just two cases, airstrikes killed 31 nomads west of Kandahar in November last year and another 57 villagers, half of them women and children, in western Afghanistan in April. In both cases, United States Special Forces were responsible for calling in the airstrikes.

the talking to enemies bs routine
Here we go again people - talking to governments like Iran, Cuba, etc. are bad, and here is why.

For example, let's consider Iran. Is talking to the Iranians going to stop them from sending arms and bombs into Iraq to kill our soldiers? No. Under no circumstances. It is in their interest to attack us, and to kill our troops. This is because the Iranian government (but not the people of Iran) is made up of a bunch of Islamic fundamentalist oligarchic thugs, with no interest in the well being of their people. Their interest is actually in keeping the Middle East in turmoil, so as to facilitate the spread of Islamic fundamentalism throughout the region.

In fact, it is even worse than this - talking to Iran actually hurts us. Iran acts bad, kills Americans, and you guys want to talk to them, listen to their concerns, and give them center stage. This is called positive reinforcement, people - we are encouraging them to act against our interests and in destructive ways towards us. This will lead to the deaths of more Americans. The correct way to deal with such people, as a true realist would know, is actually through a "negative reinforcement" either a physical attack on the country's military, a funding of the Iranian opposition, or real and strong economic sanctions on the country.

Human beings, and the countries they rule, are always the same; you need to provide positive reinforcement (i.e. talking to governments, providing benefits to them, etc.) when they act "good," and provide negative reinforcement (as described above) when they don't.

For an example of using "talking" as a positive reinforcement, look at how we "talked" to Libya when it agreed to drop its nuclear program.

Give up missile defense altogether or just give up our ambitions to place the missiles next to Russia?

As to actually using nuclear weapons in a first strike scenario? It would be impossible to justify the wholesale slaughter of millions that would follow such a thing under any contortion of the Just War theory, and it should be rightly condemned.

Talking his way out of the Veep spot
Watching Obama diminish himself with each passing verbal gaffe reminds me of the scene near the end of the movie "Poltergeist" where the family home implodes until there's nothing left.

Every time he opens his mouth, he diminishes himself a little more.

But for Democrats, with such a shallow talent pool of presidential wannabes, this was predictable, especially given the separate and lower standards they maintain for black politicians. It seems in the lexicon of Dem presidential qualifications:

- Glibness = intelligence
- Wittiness = wisdom
- Passion = persuasiveness
- Logical fallacies = logic

No one can deny that Obama is glib, even witty. But as anyone paying attention to what he says must inevitably conclude, these characteristics don't make him particularly intelligent or wise.

Being an articulate black man must've seemed like the ticket to the White House when Obama began his run, but not everyone's a Democrat, and not all Democrats are so easily satisfied.

A callow intellectual
Obama is verbally adroit but lacks the depth of understanding when he makes such pronouncements as he did about Pakistan. He wants desperately to sound authoritative just as he did when he said he would meet unconditionally with the leaders of Iran, Cuba et al. But that too was no less naive and reflects the fact that his appeal is his freshly minted charisma not the lengthy resume we have come to expect from a potential chief executive of the most powerful nation on earth.

Not unlike the middle manager who is promoted beyond his means to upper management, Obama is simply out of his league. That effectively eliminates him from a VP spot as well.

The Obama phenomenon also reflects a kind political naivete in the Democratic Party for courting him to begin with. Do they seriously think that a man with two years of senate experience is ready to take the reins in the Oval Office?

This Kennedy-esque infatuation will fade quickly now and Hillary will be their just deserts.

Obama also has no chance of being on the ticket as VP. Hillary doesn't like him, and she doesn't need him. As a woman, Hillary already makes history; she doesn't need to diversify anymore.

Obama can only hope that he gets seasoning from this run, and that Hillary loses in the general. Considering her shrill personality, her total lack of charisma, and her excessive corruption, Obama may yet get another crack at the Presidency four years from now.

PS: Nice way to contribute to the conversation, Briggsy, but shouldn't you be foaming at the mouth about Karl Rove now? That Bush crack is not in today's Kossack talking points.

What the heck was he thinking?
What an incredible gaffe. Could you imagine Franklin Roosevelet saying that as long as Hitler hid in Saudi Arabia, that the United States would take no action to secure his capture? Yeah, Barack is not ready for prime time because he has the audacity to tell an ally either give up Bin Laden or we will go get him. Thank goodness 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers did not come from Saudi Arabia....oops, never mind.

Howard Dean tanked
with one screeching scream. Barrack Obama will go down via a thousand little paper cuts, all self-inflicted. His naivite (or however it should be spelled) knows no bounds. But this is possibly the worst of the statements, because it's so terribly badly aimed at our service men and women who struggle so hard and who deserve ALL of our support and gratitude. What a spoiled little brat Obama is. He does not deserve to be protected by the caliber of armed forces that we have in the U.S.

Not polished enough
The 'problem' with Obama and McCain is that they actually answer the questions.
