An Intelligent Discussion About Health Care Reform
Posted by: Duane R. Patterson at 11:39 PM
Much of mainstream media is still consumed by Michael Jackson. On today's program, we were consumed by the proposed government-run health care scheme, something that actually will have a long-lasting, negative impact if Americans don't make their voice heard soon. There are plenty of real experts out there, on all sides of the political spectrum, and they're available to talk. They should be on cable news every day until the votes take place. Will they? Probably not. In the meantime, here is a good compilation of information from earlier today that will get you up to speed.

Dr. Robert Moffit of the Heritage Foundation's Center for Healh Policy Studies. His interview transcript is here. The audio of Hugh's discussion with him today is here.

Professor Clayton Christensen of the Harvard Business School, co-author of The Innovator's Prescription. His interview transcript is here. The audio of Hugh's discussion with him today is here.

Dr. Irwin Redlener is the co-founder and president of the Children's Health Fund, director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness, clinical professor of pediatrics at Columbia University. His interview transcript is here. The audio of Hugh's discussion with him today is here.

The flaw in the government option is apparent. The stakes of keeping the government out of the insurance business is very high. Don't sit July out. Get in the game.

Universal health care makes sense
Did we have to sacrifice General Motors to your dogmatic belief in free markets? How much more damage can we do to our economy in the name of doctrinal purity?

Australia and France have superior health care systems, as judged by outcomes. Aussies live a year longer than we do, and they pay about half of what we do for health care. What do they have that they don't? Some money left in their pockets.

What do we have that they don't? Price-gouging for prescription drugs. Medical equipment sales agents making $1 million a year. CEOs of HMOs making $1 billion a year. Administrative costs that eat up 30-40% of every health care dollar.

Let's recognize that every system rations its health care. Here, we do it in terms of wealth: "rich man can ride, but the hobo, he can drown." The super-rich seem to have this sense of entitlement....

It's high time we killed off the cockroaches and parasites. Make everyone eligible for Medicare, providing basic health care services for all. If you want a limousine option, you can pay for it through private health insurance. It's the way France does it, and they appear to be doing it a lot better.

Please tell me how many illegals who do not pay taxes are given healthcare in Australia or France. Do they make their citizens pay to cover millions who pay nothing into the system?

RIP OFF
Canada pays !/2 what USA pays for health care and Canada only has 30 million people.

We have 300 million people in the USA.

Canada is getting over taxed for health care.

Just like the public school system you have to pay twice to get your kids educated in a private school.

If the Canadians want health care they come to the USA plus pay taxes to the government.

Who wants the Status Quo?
As part of a “record-breaking influence campaign,” the nation’s “largest insurers, hospitals and medical groups have hired more than 350 former government staff members and retired members of Congress” to lobby Capitol Hill “in hopes of influencing their old bosses and colleagues” on health care legislation.

The industry is “spending more than $1.4 million a day on lobbying in the current fight.”

1.4 MILLION A DAY!!

Where is that money coming from??? Insurance Premiums?
