Morning Rant

Having sworn-off "Morning Joe" for the last couple of weeks heading into the election, I am slowly creeping back to my morning addiction. But I continue to have very mixed emotions about the direction of the show -- mainly stemming from the odd choice of regulars...
Joe, Mika, Willie, and Pat Buchanan are almost always terrific -- from an entertainment standpoint (I obviously don't always agree with them on issues).
Recently, however, they have had this CNBC guy Dylan Ratigan on constantly. He is, perhaps, even slightly more annoying and egotistical than Mike Barnicle. They are also fond of having the maudlin Peggy Noonan on -- and she clearly is the most annoying person in the world, probably because she is portrayed as a conservative. Oh yeah, and then there is Eugene Robinson...
The show was at its best when Scarborough, Mika, and Willie were frequently joined by interesting high-caliber guests like Tim Russert (a sad loss, indeed), Pat Buchanan, David Schuster, and Tucker Carlson.
Why do I care? Because this show has great potential, but they are in danger of ruining it by continuing to juggle the cast of characters, and even worse: by bringing in the wrong people.
... And it's frustrating to watch this happen -- it's like watching Ted McGinley ruin every show from the 70s and 80s (see Love Boat, Happy Days, Married with Children) -- or like when TV shows in the 70s and 80s tried to revitalize themselves by adding a cute kid (see that John Denver-looking kid on the Brady Bunch, Sam on Diff'rent Strokes, or whoever that was on Married with Children, etc.)...
My advice to Morning Joe -- for what it is worth -- is to ditch Barnicle and Ratigan as soon as possible. They are clearly not ready for morning time.
Am I alone here???

I don't watch the show, but I can definitely relate to the sentiment! Sounds really annoying. |
|
|
I point to Homer as proof positive of my earlier point. |
|
Cousin Oliver on The Brandy Bunch Seven on Married With Children
Agree - they both sucked! |
|
|
Ted McGinnley, as the shallow bleach blond gigolo Jefferson D'arcy, was a wonderful addition to Married with Children. |

No need for anyone to demonize MSNBC. The less than stellar line up of Matthews, Maddow, and Olberman all do it to themselves: self inflicted wounds. |
|
that's the dumbest thing I've heard all week.
Plus Matt, nobody watches MSNBC-why would they after you have invested so much time demonizing the channel? I mean is this a real concern for so called conservatives? I'm pretty surre you are not only alone but also being called an idiot by those firmly entrenched in the media bias crowd.
Perhaps you should finish your morning coffee. |

Obama Gives First TV Interview To Arabic Network
President tells Al-Arabiya, a Dubai-based network, that when it comes to Middle East matters "all too often the United States starts by dictating."
AP 1/27/09
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama gave his first formal television interview as president to an Arabic cable TV network, telling Al-Arabiya that when it comes to Middle East matters "all too often the United States starts by dictating."
Obama taped the interview with the Dubai-based network Monday as his envoy to the Middle East, former Sen. George J. Mitchell, set out for an eight-day trip to the region and elsewhere.
"My job to the Muslim world is to communicate that the Americans are not your enemy," Obama said. "We sometimes make mistakes. We have not been perfect."
The interview complemented the new administration's first efforts to reach out to Arab leaders in the region, who have been wary at best of U.S. efforts to broker peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
Obama said he felt it important to "get engaged right away" in the Mideast and had directed Mitchell to talk to "all the major parties involved." His administration would craft an approach after that, he said in the interview.
"What I told him is start by listening, because all too often the United States starts by dictating," Obama told the interviewer.
