They're not original ideas; you can find blogs all over that do similar things. Ace of Spades has another good one: a 5-character tag on each comment that's a one-way hash of the commenter's IP address. You can't recreate the actual IP from the hash, but you can tell if two comments are from the same person.
However, the IP address is not a good long-term identifier. I myself have two different IP addresses right now, because I have both DSL and a cable modem. Moreover, both are temporary IPs, and I could get new ones by sending resets to the modems.
There are good, reliable solutions to the problem; see patent 4,723,284.

No I am not clueless...and I AM a military wife working for the Department of Defense so tell me who has the inside on this topic. Bioden supported the expenditure of funds for military body armour and other humvee equipment as well as kevlar, night goggle/or night vision goggles. As far as Bin Laden escaping what have you to say about the fact that PAKISTAN did not allow the marines to go after
Bin Laden, which, I once more mentioned, Mr. Clinton, in his passion for being a womanizer, considered his relationship with Ms Lewinsky more important than accepting the offer of Bin Laden, three offers were made. History channel has the documentary...with footage so you can't go on denial.

Sounds like you have some good ideas there and, as a former Latin student I understand your dilemma.
I also can see why TH don't use the tally method for indicating an offensive post as it is open to abuse the way things are configured now. If you could only "flag" a post once per IP address it would be a reasonable solution. At the moment you can flag one post multiple times. Whether TH can tell that apart from separate flags you probably know better than I.
And I am not too sure what you need to be referring to body parts for but there should not be any need to censor the individual words unless the context is offensive.
It does sound like the process could be improved but it's not our website and that's THs call...maybe you should offer your services?
Ultimately it comes down to the individual poster to exercise some kind of civilty. Sadly, removing posts and their authors isn't the solution unless the IP address is subsequently blocked. I fear that the generally offensive tone emanating from the major offender will return, in fact it appears it already has, this time with a civil war era, Georgian accent.

That is correct. It doesn’t matter where you are at. It is incorrect that Sen Biden delayed equipment. Our office group tried to purchase body armor for one of our instructors who had been recalled to duty. Everything for civilian purchases (because we were not actually part of the military, even though the armor was for a soldier) was on back order because the manufacturers could not make the armor fast enough for the military. It was a capacity issue, not a money issue.
What would you call President Bush's move of charging into the front of the caves where Bin Laden was hiding and not watching the back door? As he escaped to Pakistan?

I won't flag them and similar for the simple reason that on this blog, flagging means "please remove." If there were a mechanism that would just report my opinion ("82 readers find this comment offensive") without deleting the comment, I would. It would also be nice to have the old Usenet "kill file" mechanism that would let each reader keep a list of people whose posts he doesn't want to see. (I've implemented it in blogging software I've written.)

There are many facts you in your passion for your party forgot to check amongs which is this tiny detail...when the vice-president elect was running for President he chasticed Obama for not protecting the troops by denying them the funds for protection. Also, once entered in a war do you think the soldiers or the soldier's family members are to blame?...you follow orders or you die, were we in either theater, the forces deserved our protection it was the moral thing to do. One other thing, maybe you want to review the bakground information on the terrorist attacks, find out and try to justify to yourself why did Mr. Clinton when warned and being offered 3 times Bin Laden, worried more about chasing Ms Lewinsky, than protecting our country. How could they have helped your husband’s “Army members”? Are you talking about Afghanistan or Iraq (where there was no Al Qeada and which drew off resources needed to fight the real war on terror). On 60 Minutes, they said the US was going to DOUBLE the number of troops in Afghanistan. Guess our people have been in the wrong place. Guess our equipment has been in the wrong place. Bush started the war in Iraq. The terrorists didn’t show up there until we did. Complain about the real culprits, not the democrats just coming into power (who still have not been though inauguration).

Imagine if the City of Hope charity was headquartered in something that looked like Schuler's Crystal Cathedral or paid its executives what the leaders of some megachurches pay themselves. One of the reasons I stopped going to our little suburban Presbyterian church was that I saw how little of the money and time contributed to it got to people who needed help. |

Service day is hardly an order. Must be a carry over from your days in jail where everything was an order. On the outside, here in the free world, sometimes we do things that help others, just for the fun of it. Just as a way to help people who are less fortunate.

Also in a Simpsons episode, though I know that only because I was in the UK when it was broadcast there, and it did cause a bit of a fuss. They just moved it after the watershed. Of course, the UK and the US have quite a few differences of opinion on what constitutes obscenity. |

Will be going into Salt Lake for a MLK service. We are taking our LDS, black AMERICAN children to learn. After the service, we will be going to help serve others. It's not a big deal for us here in Utah. We do it alot without it being MLK day.
Meanwhile, the GOP continue to fight amoungest themselves. Get the Bigots out, and many of us might fly back. Right now, we don't want to get anywhere near the pending implosion of the GOP.
