Rezko, Wright, and Ayers --Not A Law Firm

If you are looking for the audio and transcripts of Pastor Wright's two sermons, they are here.
In an effort to provide "context" I will try and obtain and play the entire audio of his NAACP speech from yesterday on today's program. (Michelle Malkin has a round-up on this astonishing speech.) If time permits, I'll replay the sermons as well, even though I played all the audio out there from both on Friday's program. They are the "primary documents" of the controversy, and deserve a wide audience.
I suspect the pastor will make more news at the National Press Club, and I'll play that audio as well.
The decision of Pastor Wright to make his defense of his political views of America at this juncture in the campaign is puzzling, but my strong guess is that new media will oblige him with the "context" he has asked for. Moyers did not, of course, nor have most of the MSM in that they have refused to play the sermons in full.
I argued at a panel at yesterday's Los Angeles Festival of Books and afterwards on BookTV that Obama is unelectable because the combination of Rezko, Wright and Ayers destroy Obama's appeal as a non-ideological reformer from the center of the American mainstream, especially in states like Pennsylvania and Ohio. Hillary would be crazy to drop out as the damage done to the Obama campaign is immense, but his fan base is so passionate about him that they are making enough noise to obscure the facts about Reagan Democrats' rejection of his candidacy.
If Rush plays all or most of the audio from Pastor Wright's sermons of 9/16/01 and 4/13/03, he may give Hillary the nomination by forcing the pastor's extremism into the cars of millions of Americans who will be stunned by what they hear.
Obama's supporters have mounted the classic three part defense of trial lawyers everywhere: It's not my dog. It didn't bite you. And besides, you kicked it first.
First they have argued that Pastor Wright was quoted out of context. That defense is demolished via the playing of the entire sermons which are far more controversial heard whole than in snippets.
Second, they have argued that these are Pastor Wright's words, not Obama's. As a caller to Friday's show wondered: "How could Obama have stayed in that church for 20 years?"
Finally, they assert that Pastor Hagee's endorsement of John McCain nullifies the issue as both men have ties to controversial pastors. This is ludicrous as I noted on C-SPAN's BookTV last night. Obama is a close friend of Pastor Wright's, his mentee, and as Obama has written, Wright has been a huge influence on Obama. McCain appears to have met Hagee once.
The changing defenses and the desperate quality to them underscores the fragility of the Obama campaign. Yesterday's Los Angeles Times story on Obama's questionable backing of a grant for a former employer is another major problem that has yet to generate follow-up because fo the enormous attention being paid to Wright and Ayers, but it will. (Team Obama's defense, essentially that $50,000 isn't big enough to count as graft, is the worst defense ever mounted by the team, demonstrating perhaps that the very bad, horrible month Obama has endured has taken its toll on the brain-trust.)
With a week of wall-to-wall Wright ahead, it is hard to see how Obama wins Indiana, a near home-field loss which would be yet another hammer blow to the collective consciousness of the super-delegates. As I said to the audience of Obama supporters yesterday ( a huge number of whom indicated by a show of hands that they were very angry with Hillary and wouldn't vote for her if she was the nominee), the Dems look more and more like Thelma and Louise headed for the cliff.
UPDATE: GayPatriot was at the panel with Scheer.

|
I was amazed that the amount of airtime/exposure by CNN was greater than a traditional Presidential State of The Union Address.
I'm sure we all now have a quality understanding of the English word "DIFFERENT"!{sic} |
|
Wright's sermon's were all over NPR this morning, plus on Bennett's show and now on Laura Ingraham.
Wright scares the hell out of white America for his anti Americanism, now he is speaking peculiar theories about racial differences.
The more coverage he gets, the better, there is no escape for Obama. No way will he garner the white working class voters he needs to badly. The chickens have come home to roost! |
|
And don't forget this from Obama's Philly speech:
"I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community,"
Joined at the hip. |
|
Arguably Wright has a vested interest in promoting his Black Liberation Theology using Barack Hussein Obama as a throwdown. As stated above, the chickens are coming home to roost for the Rev! His angry black man ideology is falling on the deaf ears of a culture raised on the "Melting Pot" theory of assimilation.
|
|
Jeremiah Wright just finished speaking at the National Press Club in a question and answer format.
The questions were argumentative. Frankly I thought they were too argumentative.
Wright did not disappoint those who like him striking back. He did so. He also upped the ante.
I cannot see how this helps Barak Obama. I do not see how you can put a positive spin on this. |
|
Dewey, Cheetham and Howe?
That one is for you Pasadena Phil. |

Racitry. The fact that he is so clearly a bigot and a racist and a man of cloth in 2008 AND HAS A FLOCK THAT FOLLOWS HIM means racism is alive and well today. Kinda knocks you over to know that folks like Rev Wright are still out there...let alone preechers!!! The fact that Obama follows him religiously and has married a bigot hopefully means he looses either the nomination or the election. If we elect this spawn of bigotry and racism, we will get what we deserve. |
|
I do not believe the majority of Black churches preach this sort of ideology and race hatred.
Obama's speech in Philedelphia provided cover for Wright's hatred and tried to suggest that Blacks of a certan age all think and preach like Wright. |
|
Hewitt has done no more than state and support the obvious.
The Rev Wrights of America are many, born and nurtured in an era where Black Men were told to accept their inferiority and inherent wretchedness. The result is but three possible scenarios, disdain, forgiveness, or both... Rev Wright has clearly adopted the latter.
The moral assessment of Wright's view of his country IS valid, however, to judge his position without consider all facts is self-serving and expected of those who have the luxury of washing their hands of the past without carrying its weight. It is morally corrupt and the epitome of arrogance to believe that a nations sins have no consequence. It is equally corrupt to expect, a generation later, in a modernized and free society, that the Rev Wrights (Faith Leaders) should not progress, without disdain, beyond the wrongs suffered.
Hewitt, unfortunately, has taken to offering critique without context. I am quite certain that Hewitt would not view any other candidate's viability in such a narrow prism, and further, deliver his opinion in speech before an audience. I am inclined to believe that Hewitt would be cautious in his approach to concluding a candidate's "doom" when their sins were loosely defined.

Good one but I'm not a defender of Obama. I don't defend ANY of these three liberals. It's all the same to me. Besides, I have often said that one of the ironies of this election is that Hillary is the most rational candidate running. She is the one Ted Kennedy opposes. He endorsed Obama and has a professional partnership with Shoeless John. |
|
|
I'm listening to call-in radio and I'm hearing PLENTY of blacks who are just as appalled with Wright as whites. Granted this isn't scientific because, among other reasons, someone is screening the callers but there seems to be a sharp difference of opinion between black women and black men. Anyone know of any polls or studies that address that? |
|
I know you are not an overt Obama defender. You just dislike McCain. I was playing off your Three Stooges photoshop. the name Rezko, Wright & Ayers reminded me of that classic Stooges bit.
I disagree with you about Clinton. Both Obama and McCain are sincere in their views. In my opinion, Obama is far more out of touch than McCain. You probably think they are about equal.
Hillary is more about getting into office for its own sake. She is the least honest and the most corrupt of the bunch. I do not want her anywhere near the Oval Office.
Answer me this, was Ronald Reagan throwing the game for the GOP when he compromised on policy? Your Shoeless John analogy really doesn't work. |
|
giving.
Will Wright's comments have an impact in Indiana? Is Rev. Wright part of Operation Chaos? |
|
There used to be racial strife? When is the expiration date on grudges? And, I take it you're saying that Wright apparently is not like other men and therefore should not be held accountable? I'm confused. If Hillary's pastor was a virulent Anti-Semite this would have nothing to do with her? Hugh or any of us would be wrong to notice?
The real point is that Rev. Wright is a direct result of Dem/lib propaganda for the past 30 years. He already had a legitimate gripe (to a point) but it certainly was nurtured and encouraged by the Dem/lib do-gooders. Live with it and let's stop making excuses. |
|
|
We've given a pass to lying, cheating, stealing, and dogging one's family, along with being an embarassment to the Office but we still hold racism as a big NO-NO. You'll have to wait until that one becomes "sophisticated". |
|
I attend a mostly black congregated church. They are 180 degrees opposite of the Rev Wright's followers. There is hope.
However, I have attended a few other black churches where I've heard similar but not so virulent preaching. Back in '04, right before elections, a pastor told her congregation that if the Voting Rights Act was not renewed, then blacks would not be able to vote anymore. She indicated that the Repubs did not want it renewed. She, and most of the congregation, are not stupid. She did it for propaganda purposes which is what Wright does so he can keep those checks coming in. |

Scarlett...
"The moral assessment of Wright's view of his country IS valid... It is equally corrupt to expect, a generation later, in a modernized and free society, that the Rev Wrights (Faith Leaders) should not progress, without disdain, beyond the wrongs suffered."
The point was that Rev Wright SHOULD be expected to progress beyond injustice and is obligated to do so as a Faith Leader

"They are 180 degrees opposite of the Rev Wright's followers. There is hope."
The same generalization may be applied more broadly to all African Americans. The critique is valid if you've had the opportunity to discuss the beliefs of those who attend Wright's church, however, I would be quite careful in further generalizing folk....

He's done.
Besides Ayers, Wright and Rezko, the mere fact Obama refuses to do anymore debates with Hillary screams volumes that the man-made production of Obama is finished.
Seems the flowery speeches he needs to have written for him everytime another gaffe or debale happens is no longer having its intended effect. Sure the true ObamaPods will still stand by him, but they no longer are fainting when he speaks...they wince.
He's running away from areas in his campaign that are uncomfortable for him, which shows he doesn't have the nuts to really pull this off.
He's a joke and the people are waking up to find out that he's his own punchline in a dark comedy. No pun meant...so don't march on my street please. |

Rezko, Wright, & Ayers Dewey, Cheetham and Howe?
|

Sorry it's been a while since I've had to deconstruct large passages of literature.
How does this: "The moral assessment of Wright's view of his country IS valid" jibe with this: "It is equally corrupt to expect, a generation later, in a modernized and free society, that the Rev Wrights (Faith Leaders) should not progress, without disdain, beyond the wrongs suffered."
If we are STILL (is) a racially prejudiced and morally corrupt country then the Right Rev has a point.
and this statement contradicts the point that I think you're trying to make: "It is morally corrupt and the epitome of arrogance to believe that a nations sins have no consequence." Consequences are AFTER or the RESULT of an action but you then say Wright is wrong for being that result.
And you make the mistake of assuming that we(Hugh) are ignorant of history. The Right is actually quite good at understanding context.
The only people I generalized were those in my congregation and Wright's congregation. If his church is popular they must like what they hear, yes?
|
|
Rezko, Wright, & Ayers = Dewey, Cheetham and Howe?
Joe, how dare you insult three of the greatest philosophers ever produced by America upon whose photo I fondly gaze at the moment!!
The jury's still out for me on Rezko, but the latter two are just plain psycho. Obama chooses his friends oddly. The more this guy is vetted, the more "Whadda ______?!?!?!" we'll start hearing from more sectors in the Democratic Party circle. The chickens are clucking all around his campaign.
|
|
1.
"The only people I generalized were those in my congregation and Wright's congregation. If his church is popular they must like what they hear, yes?" No. I don't believe that any of us should conclude that by maintaining a relationship with any church we are accepting of ALL that transpires. Pleeeeenty of Black Folk "Go for the choir." without regard for "Pastor So & So".
2. How does this: "The moral assessment of Wright's view of his country IS valid" jibe with this: "It is equally corrupt to expect, a generation later, in a modernized and free society, that the Rev Wrights (Faith Leaders) should not progress, without disdain, beyond the wrongs suffered."
The former addresses an obligation that we all have to question and critique. The latter addresses the obligation of Faith Leaders, those who preach the word of a God who forgave our sins with the life of His Son, to be as clear sighted as their Father.... especially in an era of open information.
3. and this statement contradicts the point that I think you're trying to make: "It is morally corrupt and the epitome of arrogance to believe that a nations sins have no consequence." Consequences are AFTER or the RESULT of an action but you then say Wright is wrong for being that result.
Actually, it is a reminder that we, as a country, cannot claim to be innocent when our shared history has been corrupted by the sins of our fathers.... We are all left to move forward.

Just another day Christianity land.
Shall we count the loony preachers.
1.) Al Sharpton 2.) Jesse Jackson 3.) Jerry Falwell 4.) Pat Robertson 5.) James Dobson 6.) Jeremiah Wright 7.) Ted Haggard
Right on. I'm all in favor of you all Christians trashing each other's preachers as "not Christian". Wooo hoo! Good day in Paradise on Earth for us secular types.
We'll just sick back with some Lemonade and watch you all duke it out.
And by all means, keep group preachers with thieves and terrorists in the same sentence.
Oh yeah. Ha ha ah! And you all wonder why "secularism" is so popular these days. Ever try looking in the mirror? You Christians hate each other more than you hate us.
Ha ha ha ha!

In the (Mr. Clinton era) "the left" leaders told us that "the right" leaders were proposing school lunch program funding be "cut" while they were proposing an increase to help the poor children. In fact, the left was proposing an increase somewhat higher than the right, but both were increases over the existing program funding.
This is a simple example of "political speak" used to incite disagreements and unrest in ones opponents. This tactic is being employed in today's Presidential contests to "prove" the Republican Party is out to hurt the poor, while the Democrat Party is their friend on all things regarding taxation. Of course the Capital Gains tax issue in play is an example of the common folk having their taxes raised and useable income reduced by the proposals of the Democrat Party candidate (s).
By the way, Eagleone, haven't you heard, "Only whites can be racists and only men can be sexists". |

As an atheist I just have a theological question.
Is Jeremiah Wright redeemable? Can he be saved?
If so, isn't all this derision heaped on him kinda counter productive? Don't as me, I'm just the atheist here, but wouldn't his soul take president over politics?
I mean, like I'm unrepenpent, don't waste your time, I understand. But this guy, seems to me if a preacher isn't redeemable, as you all seem to be treating him, doesn't that kinda invalidate your religion?
And if he is redeemable, shouldn't that be the objective, as opposed to say, hating him? And spreading that hatred?
Just color me curious.

All of the controversy over this relationship and that relationship should be, and will continue to be, discussed and included. But, I am one voter who hopes that the issues are not lost in the discussion. Conservative management of the public coffers and the funding of same is the "ONLY" way to reduce government, tax levels and keep the money earned in the pockets of those who earn it. And, by using those conservative principals the deficit will grow smaller.
Isn't this the best Country in all the world? We can openly discuss, disagree and rail against our government, our candidates, our neighbors opinions and have no fear of being jailed or shipped into exile. Let this political season with all of its problems exemplify that saliant point.
Disagree, shout to the heavens and be heard, but rejoice and bask in the warmth and light of democracy. |

You all should add a new feature to this here blog. A signature.
I already no mine.
I heart Jeremiah Wright.
I'm personally thinking, "I heart Jeremiah Wright", because you know, he's deliberately kinda provocative like me. I figure its even more provocative than the old standby, "An atheist just believes in one less God than you do."
But hey, you have to give Jeremiah Wright his due respect as provocateur. He's doing more to discredit Christianity than I ever could. I'm jealous. So, he's my new hero.

I'm an agnostic, and apparently, you are giving a broad swooping stroke lumping all Christians together in a ridiculous pool.
Naturally, there are those leaders I happen to question myself, but you're trying to compare apples to oranges here.
By you generaling Christians in your post, you truly mean Conservatives, correct? Do you realize that conservatives don't need to be Christian?
Conservatives aren't thinking of Wright as far as whether his soul can be redeemed, it's not their place to. I know you're trying to do a Forgiveness Gotcha and how un-Christian people are concerning Wright.
The point is, Wright is the largest disaster to any sweeping campaign known so far.
His Black Theology is shocking and outrageous and conservatives truly wonder, does the man who sought this reverand's council and attended his church for 20 years, had his house blessed by him, wrote a book for him, had his children baptized by him, was married by him---does he share the same shocking values as Wright.
One would only think yes and you don't have to be religious to wonder at all.
I'm an agnostic and I sure did. But then, what do I know, I'm just a Typical White Person Clinging Onto My Guns and Religion. |
|
"I'm an agnostic, and apparently, you are giving a broad swooping stroke lumping all Christians together in a ridiculous pool. "
Well, if its good for the goose, its good for the gander. Christians are always lumping all atheists with Stalin in Hitler.
I figure its time for a little payback and lump them all together with say, Wright and Falwell.
"By you generaling Christians in your post, you truly mean Conservatives, correct? Do you realize that conservatives don't need to be Christian?"
Actually no. As far as I'm concerned, Christian bashing is all good to me, especially when its Christian on Christina. I mean hey, Jeremiah Wright is getting more air play than the Pope. Nuff said.
"The point is, Wright is the largest disaster to any sweeping campaign known so far."
Right on! A Christian preacher is the death knell to any campaign going forward! Eclipsing Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson! Wooo Hooo! Let's just keep upping the "largest disaster" anty for associating with a preacher. Works for me liberal or conservative.
" His Black Theology is shocking and outrageous"
And liberals find Evangelical theology shocking and outrageous. How much more fun can it get! Right wing preachers blame 9/11 on gays and abortionists, left wing preachers say "God D**n America".
Shocking! Disturbing! Repulsive! Woo hooo!
" I'm an agnostic and I sure did. But then, what do I know, I'm just a Typical White Person Clinging Onto My Guns and Religion."
Me too. Love the humor.

Atheist Writes
"As an atheist I just have a theological question.
Is Jeremiah Wright redeemable? Can he be saved?"
(Yes & Yes. Nothing really provocative about the answer, it is the question, rather, the naive implication that redemption is selective, that may be provocative.... well.... No.)
"If so, isn't all this derision heaped on him kinda counter productive?" Yes.
"Don't as me, I'm just the atheist here, but wouldn't his soul take president over politics?" Yes. Again. A No Brainer"... And I believe the term is Precedence...
"I mean, like I'm unrepenpent, don't waste your time, I understand. But this guy, seems to me if a preacher isn't redeemable, as you all seem to be treating him, doesn't that kinda invalidate your religion?..."
(Faith isn't invalidated by the sin of the follower... Again... Kinda Christianity 001)
"And if he is redeemable, shouldn't that be the objective, as opposed to say, hating him? And spreading that hatred?" (Yes & Yes)
Not much time for reading or grammar in the secular movement huh?

"Not much time for reading or grammar in the secular movement huh?"
Ouch, I have to own that.
But here's my excuse.
I always spell "provocateur" correctly and on another blog I was informed that this was, like, +100,000 points in the reading or grammar department. Typos and stuff are, like, -5 points. So, every time I use the word "provocateur" I'm liking banking all these points, see?
But maybe I missed the memo where spelling "provocateur" correctly was +100,000 points. Do you know is there some new scoring system, like +10 points. That'd really suck if it were so low because then I'd like have to find a way to use "provocateur" in every sentence to make up for my bad grammar. I don't know if I can do that. Dang it. |
|
Honestly, I'm no fan of those religious leaders you spoke of. I couldn't quote you one Bible verse, but I can tell the difference between good people and bad, regardless of who they do or do not pray to.
Yes, saying gays were the cause of 911 or Katrina is foul, retarded, and they come off no better than any bum on the streetsholding up a lunch sign that says "End of the World!"
But Wright is different. This isn't about God. This is about a phoney hack from Chicago getting pushed by the MSM as the last great hope for uniting the country.
Turns out Mr. Change was affiliated with a mentally sick person for 20 years and as much as he tried to distance himself and make excuses, he still is stepping in his own crap piles.
Actually, I'm enjoying it as well, but for different reasons. See, even though I'm not religious, and I have met some or seen strange and offensive religious people, I don't let it bother me like you.
I tend to look at people as individuals rather than mock or hate an entire group they happen to associate with. So, I happen to like Christians, even though I don't happen to feel the same way the do about religion, and despite a few fanatics.
I wonder does it take more effort to accept people individually, or to hate and mock entire groups they belong to? |
|
"I wonder does it take more effort to accept people individually, or to hate and mock entire groups they belong to?"
I'm just weird is all. I enjoy having some good natured provocation. I'm not so much into ad homenum attacks where you insult people. That's fun for most, but not me. I like to put a little more effort into to my fun. I'm mean, hey, let's be serious, even Rush Limbaugh, the paragon of right wing media, writes off what he does as entertainment. I'm no different.
I enjoy what I do. You?
Christians have no problem mocking and hating entire groups like atheists. What's the harm in joining in and returning the favor? In fact, I'd argue when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Its what they understand, I enjoy it, and its all just entertainment anyway.

Why are you wasting your time on something that does not matter anyway? Does not this take time away from your Star Trek study?;) Have you finished all your Harry Potter books yet? lol. |

"This is about a phony hack".
You know, I'm curious, I really am.
Did I miss the memo to us bitter types where politicians are no longer assumed to be phony hacks? Cause I need to inform the gang because everyone I know thinks all politicians are corrupt and a worthless lot.
I mean, come on, I've been so cynical about politicians for years. I thought you were one of the bitter ones, like me? I've assumed all politicians, state, local and federal were phony hacks since 1980 and haven't been proven wrong once yet.
But then I grew up reading my hero, Mark Twain.
Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself. - Mark Twain, a Biography
Congressman is the trivialist distinction for a full grown man. - Notebook #14, 11/1877 - 7/1878
All Congresses and Parliaments have a kindly feeling for idiots, and a compassion for them, on account of personal experience and heredity. - Mark Twain's Autobiography; also in Mark Twain in Eruption
Aren't you suppose to be bitter? When I vote I just pull the Democratic lever cause I believe in the two-party system more than any particular politician, meaning I grew up near Chicago and back there voting Democrat has its rewards and since it just doesn't matter at the Federal level, bingo, pull the big D lever. Actually, they did away with the machines that have the party lever so its a little more work these days. Sadly. Politics has gotten worse even from Twain's time.
|
|
"Does not this take time away from your Star Trek study?;)"
Oh yeah, I have this new gizmo which allows me to be in two Universes at once. I can study Star Trek and have fun provocating.
You having fun? |
|
Love Mark Twain. And you have a point: a lot of Pols are phony hacks. I used to be naive enough to think Repubs were better, and they used to be. Not anymore. This all smells bad.
But why compound going to Hell by voting Democrat? But I repeat myself;)

Atheist isn't really an Atheist at all. He is a classic Cynic....
At the very least moderately read, if not well read.
But instead of committing to the uncertain, he has grasped the writings of the great and the talking points of pundits...
Yet, he still silently optimistic, but, not completely sure of himself.... thus the attention to $5 words and not $20 thoughts.

So, the joy you are swooning on right now took you great effort because you mock an entire people? I don't know, I think I just answered my own question because I really think it takes more effort to focus BS individually rather than clumping an entire group into the equation.
"Christians have no problem mocking and hating entire groups like atheists. What's the harm in joining in and returning the favor?"
-Hmm, funny, I can have easy open discussions with even the most hardcore believers with them fully knowing how I felt differently. Maybe it all boils down to effective communication? Maybe it's all in the delivery? So because you feel a few people were mean, that gives you carte blanche to act like how you do?
"Did I miss the memo to us bitter types where politicians are no longer assumed to be phony hacks? Cause I need to inform the gang because everyone I know thinks all politicians are corrupt and a worthless lot."

You vote democratic and you're from the Chicago area?
Why? Rewards you say? What rewards, where and for who?
My county, Cook County, is known to be the highest tax bracket in the nation.
My property taxes were raised 3 times in a year and 1/2.
The sales tax is through the roof.
Yet, our street our potholed, we ran out of snow salt and didn't have the budget for more, anyone with the last name of Strodger automatically gets into office, businesses are failing due to the high taxation, crime is up....gosh, what else can I add? Just think of Hell with street lights.
Oh yes, the voting system of Chicago. My grandmother voted for Kerry...ironically she was dead 10 years by then, and a republican. |

Maybe I am just hoping that McCain will win whether he goes up against Hillary or Obama, but I think he will.
If Obama wins, he will do so with zero momentum and a lot of baggage. McCain can capitalize on that and score a victory amongst Republicans (who will still go to the ballot box even though they don't like McCain) and independents.
If Hillary wins the nomination, a large swath of the Democratic Party will feel disenfrachised and will sit out the presidential election, which will give McCain the victory. |

$5 words and $20 thoughts. Nice. I like smart phrases.
Interesting insight on Atheist. Guess you've interacted with him before?
I agree with you, btw, about where Wright's coming from. I'm sure he had some harsh times back in the day and has a chip. But he shouldn't compound the hate, especially using the Word to do it.

Obama CANNOT do a debate now. He has just painted himself into a corner. He just admitted that Reverend Wright was a "legitimate issue." And so guess what will be the Main Topic at the next debate? That's right, Reverend Wright's latest rants. Which Obama doesn't want to have to deal with.
The Lefties were furious that this stuff was discussed at the ABC debate because they said "Oh, it's old news." Well, thanks to Reverend Wright, now it's brand new news again.

Further, I feel I owe it to you to explain how the "guilt by association" game works. I'll even throw in some Republican priorities for ya for good measure.
Politicians, Democrat and Republican alike, figured out during the 1980s that HOW the public *perceives* the stock market impacts the stock market. Since then both sides have mutually agreed upon playing up on the economy being better than it is.
Unemployment before Reagan was a calculation of the number of unemployed. During Reagan it became a calculation of the number of people *filing* for unemployment insurance. Today, if unemployment were calculated as pre-Reagan it would be 9-10%. Did the Clinton years change this calculation back to reality? Nope. Both sides are in on it.
They want you, the general public, to fill good about the economy so that, as Bush said after 9/11, "just keep on shopping".
Further, with regards to guilt-by-association, here's an interesting tidbit for ya. There is a video tape never aired in public by Republicans or Democrats. It shows George Bush Sr. and Jr. partying it up with Ken Lay of Enron fame at an Enron Christmas party.
But see, here's the thing. Neither Democrats nor Republicans aired the "guilt by association" tape. Why? Because its the economy, stupid. Both Republicans and Democrats (NPR and Limbaugh) are airing Wright's tapes. You can't have people losing faith in the stock markets, that would be a disaster, but its ok if people lose faith in religion. You can't have people to started believing all CEOs were as corrupt as Ken Lay, so the association with Bush is never discussed.
|
|
Now religion, on the other hand is fair game. Both sides have agreed its ok to play the "guilt by association" game with religious bad guys. Because guess what, faith in the church and filling the pews is not a concern when smearing religion. Who cares if people go to church less?
Stock market = sacred? Religion = bombs away.
Finally there's a tacit agreement between both parties that its ok to pin someone like Rezko to Obama's donkey if there is no chance it impacts the publics perception of the economy at large.
Hope that helps. As far as the hatred is concerned, well Obama should consider himself lucky, at least he's being tied to someone living and that he knows? I'm always getting hated because of Hitler and Stalin. So there ya go.
|
|
I agree with you, but let's turn it around. Let's pretend it's Hillary and not Obama.
I may not like her, but I know well enough that she has the stones to take a swing in the face she knows is coming. She coming off looking more like a man than he is.
I mean, he really should do a debate. Stand up to the onslaught, answer them and then deal with the issues. He's losing steam and respect. By turning his back on the public, he appears cowardly and finished. It's only helping Hillary.
I have no personal liking for either of them, so my opinion is merely a spectator sport. Obama needs to show his public he can take a swing in the face too. If you want to lead this country, not everything you say or do will be celebrated. We need to know will he hide under his desk or come out swinging back.
To me, he's gonna hide. Hillary is showing herself to be a fighter.
Either way, I'm voting McCain. |
|
PS.
Note how when corrupt CEOs like Ken Lay are exposed, the right wing media is all about, "move along, nothing of interest to see here, just a couple of bad apples."
But when a perceived corrupt preacher like Wright is exposed, WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOO! Blast it all over the news. Peg Obama with that one. Kenny Boy and Bush. Not a peep.
Your accusations of hatred, if in poor taste, are reflected in the actions of the right wing on this. But, actually, to be honest, by both parties. Neither party was willing to pin the Ken Lay tail on Bush the way they are both pinning the Wright tail on Obama.
It's all pretty pathetic. But what do you expect from Christians.
Respect? Integrity? Fairness? Yeah right.

Survey USA daily tracking (4/25-4/27), most recent of all major polls, shows Clinton leading Obama 52-43 in Indiana. A replay of Pennsylvania will put the superdelegates in a state of panic. |
|
|
My friends, it appears as though Obama's few good friends have raised enough questions to make me president. McCain during his inaugural speech in Jan. 2009. Any person who thinks Obama has a shot at the presidency must be self medicating like Dean (DNC Chairman). Obama was flavor of the month in February when he swept on tsumani tuesday - and that flavor is turning bitter voters against him as his bitter pastor continues to privide insight into their religion. Pass more pop corn please! |
|
|
and americans are listening. This can't be blamed on 'whitey' anymore. The man loves a microphone and Obama has finally admitted, it is not a 'distraction', it is a 'political problem' when did wonder boy get this epiphany? We have said it all along. then he insulted americans by saying Wright is like an 'uncle' who says crazy things at the dinner table. Well then, americans are having dinner with Obama's uncle and their left brain, right brain and every part of their brains is screaming - why would Obama pick this guy for a mentor/pastor? Oh well, it was good while the illusion of Obama lasted. FYI - where is lady Oprah? Shouldn't she be out there taunting Obama's good judgement? I suppose the typical white people who make the majority of her audience are not happy either.....mmmmmmmmmmmm-----and Obama's polls in Indiana are....tanking faster than Wright's proclamation that americans should not believe Obama's effort to distance himself from Wright - LOL! |

Huckabee, a two term governor whose political positions and views were reduced to being asked ridiculous biblical questions - did not complain it was racist. Why? All presidential candidates understand that they will have to explain their views (religious, personal, political etc) if they want to become president. In this country, we grill our presidents. Bush answered about his DUI, his days as an alcoholic and any other thing that crawled up. Obama thinks he should not have to answer 'questions about his associates or beliefs'. Well then, in the words of Bill Clinton 'if you don't want to be attacked or questioned, don't run for POTUS'. Obama can end his misery any day now by ending his candidacy but as long as he is in the race - these questions will keep coming and if you think Clintons are hard on him - republicans will not take any prisoners (including Wright, Ayers, Rezko and Michelle the ungrateful). |
|
|
but not as a mentor to the POTUS. If Wright was not mentoring Obama, nobody would care much about his views, religious or otherwise. It's because Wright, Ayers and Rezko are close associates of Obama (presidential candidate) that they make the national news. Redemption belongs to God so no man can say another is unredeemable - only God. But then again, you would know that since in your mind, you are God. |

Thanks for talking to the time to respond to me. That's nice.
Did I somehow come off as an Obama supporter or sympathizer in anyway?
If so, I'd be much obliged if you'd point out what gave you the impression that I think he's anything other than an idiot: in other words, a politician.
Anyway, there is nothing in your opinions that I would argue with. Looks fine to me.
MDoggg's point was that Hugh is willing to overlook radical opinions by the likes of, oh, say Pat Buchanan and not Wright. Further, the American public has heard this tune of "guilt by association" many times before and at the end of the day it isn't going to matter.
Personally, I'm with Mdoggg. If Obama doesn't chicken out like Gore in 2000, he'll win.
The net result is going to be that Obama will get elected and Republicans will have all this ill will of slamming black people (like you just slammed Oprah). And Republicans wonder why blacks vote Democratic. Just keep on slamming Oprah. That'll endear ya to the black vote.
Everyone knows all politicians are slimy aholes. The only question is which slime? People have had it with the war and price of oil. People have had it with p*ssing off the entire world and paying everything ourselves as a consequence. Whoever the Democratic candidate ends up being will win.
You just need to be cynical enough to see it. You have this wide-eyed notion that when compared to John McCain, McCain looks better to the American public.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha! I'm thinking, Obama would have to commit a double-axe murder before that ever happens. Or Clinton.
100 Years! Baby! |

"All politicians are phony hacks. All politicians are phony hacks. All politicians are phony hacks. "
They sure are, but these attacks on Obama and the preacher are straight up racism of a vile sort. Just as they turned george Bush into a hero (and Kerry into a traitor), the right wing turns Wright into a "madman" America hater and Obama into an elite piece of white bread, the former a US Marine and long time stalwart in his neighborhood (regardless of incendiary talk) the latter raised by a single mother with food stamps and college loans (which he recently paid off). You want McCain for president? Great. But to smear and aim to destroy by what every account is a decent and honest man because of the harmless though angry words of his PREACHER - while a piece of excremental matter like jerry Falwell, accused America JUST AS WRIGHT DID, and remained admired by the right and has the ear of the white House? Sir, the only conclusion is they hate black people.
These guys just don't like nigg@#s - and they don't have the guts to just say it... |
|
OK, I'll bite. Would you characterize how Wright is being treated as Christian TO WRIGHT?
We're not talkin' Obama here. This is persecution by association. Wright wouldn't flustered by all this attention if not for the media forcing him too. What you are saying is that not only are the presidential candidates fair game for mass media scrutiny, so is anyone he ever associated with. Uh, hello. I hope no-one who ever runs for President knows me. They'll be in serious trouble AND I DON'T LEAD MY LIFE TO LIVE UP TO THAT SCRUTINY.
Fine, Obama threw his hat in the ring. Wright didn't. Now Wright's life is ruined. I call that grossly unfair. In fact, since I'm an atheist, I'll call it evil.
"If Wright was not mentoring Obama, nobody would care much about his views, religious or otherwise."
Do you have any idea how hypocritical that sounds? What, he's ok saying "God D**n America" as long as never associates with a President? So here's the problem that an atheist like me has with Christians, its impossible to figure out the standards. You've ruined Wright's reputation and life? And there seems to be a spirit of glee and celebration about it. It's disgusting, really.
"It's because Wright, Ayers and Rezko are close associates of Obama (presidential candidate) that they make the national news. "
Wright didn't bring this on himself. He was pasture of his church for 20 years and never sought nation exposure. You all have destroyed this man in the name of politics.
I hope you feel good about that because by your own admission he could have been respectfully living his life as a Christian preacher except he was unlucky enough to have been Obama's preacher.
Pardon me if I won't be signing up for the Christian religion anytime soon. You people are cruel. |
|
Quoting persons of color accuarately and then having the audacity to understand what they are saying is vile racism. Blacks aren't responsible for what they say anyway. Come to think of it, besides the Devil, mean ol' Repubs cause ALL Dem/libs to do bad things. Pardon me if I don't take you seriously.
I guess we should respect blacks less than whites by talking down to them and making excuses for them and having lower standards of conduct for them, you know, like Democrats do. hahahahahahahaha!!! |
|
Hey, I suspect if you get rid of the n' word, your posts wouldn't be flagged as offensive and deleted.
Maybe you don't care and that's fine too, just thought I'd let you know.
"They sure are, but these attacks on Obama and the preacher are straight up racism of a vile sort."
I agree. But you have to be honest, NPR and Democratic media are playing this just as loudly. The racism is a pox on both parties. Both parties are racists. Colin Powell has been called an Uncle Tom by more than a few Democrats. So has Clarence Thomas.
"You want McCain for president?"
Sorry if I ever gave that impression. I vote straight Democratic ticket, every year, without fail.
"But to smear and aim to destroy by what every account is a decent and honest man because of the harmless though angry words of his PREACHER - while a piece of excremental matter like jerry Falwell, accused America JUST AS WRIGHT DID, and remained admired by the right and has the ear of the white House? Sir, the only conclusion is they hate black people. "
I agree. They also hate gays and atheists if that's any consolation. Trust me, I'm public enemy number one. At least there are black politicians. The only atheist exists in Congress because he came out AFTER getting elected, and there is only one. Blacks have a fairly decent representation these days relative to atheists.
What happened in Katrina broke my heart. When Hurricane Andrew hit Florida, well FEMA's response was given accolades for its response. I don't think I need to point out the obviousness as to difference between Florida and New Orleans.

Lee Harvey Oswald Charles Whitman John Kerry Jimmy Carter
all served. so what? McCain served too. Doesn't make him a good senator.
I guess you can't see how if a white or hispanic or asian "man of the cloth" (heh) said these things that you would have even more spittle flying out onto your keyboard right now. It is unacceptable to be racist. Haven't you heard? |
|
"I guess you can't see how if a white or hispanic or asian "man of the cloth" (heh) said these things that you would have even more spittle flying out onto your keyboard right now. It is unacceptable to be racist. Haven't you heard?"
Hi there!
Well, I think what Mdoggg is complaining about is the double standard. I'm a provocateur. I admit it. I own it. Any future politician that gets associated with me will have that to deal with.
Falwell, Robertson and Buchanan are all provocateurs. Robertson called for the assassination of Hugo Chavez. Ted Haggard bragged of having a direct line to the White House before his downfall. He was a known gay basher. Nobody seemed to care enough to make the kind of big deal that Wright is being made of.
And that is Mdoggg's point. That's why its called racism. If Wright were Ted Haggard, no big deal. You can say bad things about gays all day because, hey, the Bible gives you cover, enh? Jeez.
My only point with Mdoggg is that the Democrats are no less guilty. We're still a racist nation. Bad behavior by white people gets overlooked. Obama may very well loose his nomination due to Wright. Has any Republican even come close to losing anything because of provocateurs like Robertson and Falwell? Ah no.
It's racism.
|
|
Was Clinton racist when eastern NC was underwater from Floyd in '99? FEMA had the same number of thumbs up its rear end as with Katrina. Did the Dem/libs who ran LA from top to bottom for over a hundred years hold ANY responsibility?! Tell the truth now.
Christians, at least the vast majority, do not hate sinners. Get that through your head. Not accepting sin is not the same as hating sinners. If you actually knew some christians you would learn this. Pretend they're Muslems or Bhuddists or something - that will make it easier for you. |
|
"Quoting persons of color accuarately and then having the audacity to understand what they are saying is vile racism. "
When you accurately portray Wright's words, then you have some credibility. Calling Wright a racist - a man born in the world of segregation, discrimination and Jim - who then went on to serve his country (even as it treated him unfairly), and then his community, is racist and vile and disgusting. But worse, to tar Obama as unfit because of his association - while an ex-Klan member sits in the Senate (though a better man than you), is bereft of sanity and decency. You can't judge Obama by his actions - his resume is too clean, he's on his first wife - there's been minor talk of scandal (and none of lawbreaking), he's actually a good man - and few doubt it, so you cherry pick 20 years of sermons, find stuff that makes you uneasy - though stuff that's as common on the left as lattes and marijuana, and you twist it into an expression of hatred and racism - to help assuage your own racism and hatred - and better yet, allows you you to express it, and you spit your acid to scar Obama - and it works because hayseeds like you don't have the capacity to understand why anger is never equal to racism or hatred. Anger is a response to anger and hatred. And one burns crosses and one spews venom at the pulpit. if ONLY white people had confined their racism to the pulpit. then guys like Wright wouldn't exist...
|
|
speaking for the black man...
What'd I tell ya? |
|
You keep using racist terms. If only I knew you, huh? Even though you're as slow as most Dem/libs I'll stick with you a bit.
First, my wife is black and her family is black. They don't even have to ask you if you think they're black enough either. So I must keep my racism well hid.
Second - Wright must stop saying stupid racist things and then no one will call him a racist. He's the one who undermines himself and Obama by his actions.
Third - I only care about Obama and his main man Wright as it is an example of Obama's judgement. I feel bad for Obama that his soul brother man is taking him down like that. I felt bad for Bill Clinton's friends too. However, the main reason I don't like Obama as a President or an office holder is that he's a commie. I don't like any commies. They are bad for America. It has nothing to do with skin color.
You are right. Those mean white people are trying to merge Obama into Wright. Damn Clintons!
btw- nice excuse making for Byrd. That strengthens your credibility. lol.
I'm sure Wright is nice enough. Many people say lots of nuts have good personalities. |
|
|
same old argument, same old excuses.Lets give Wright a pass because some white preacher did something ten years ago or justify his bad behavior because of something our government did back in the day.We can use this defense for any situation but believe it or not some libs are bad people and Wright is one of them and he is killing Obama. You libs can wash this mess all you want,it still smells like fish. |
|
"find stuff that makes you uneasy - though stuff that's as common on the left as lattes and marijuana"
Well to Klansman and other kooks, I'm sure what they talk about is common and makes sense to them too.
All illegal and immoral stuff makes me uneasy. |

Scarlet... Come On. We were doing so much better than this.
I am certainly not a fan of Sen. Obama, however, I am reluctant to falsely accuse him of being a Communist, as his policies don't align with the principles of neither Communism nor Socialism, but Liberalism. Further, I hope that we've progressed beyond the McCarthy-like tactics of our contemporaries.
For the benefit of this discussion, please note the specific policies that "offend your sense of what's right for America" as opposed to vague generalizations supported by rumor and innuendo.

Dear Michelle Obama, Pity Party Princess
Facts:
we are NOT STUPID!
1. NO normal, intelligent person spends $100,000 on a Specialist IVY LEAGUE DEGREE to become a TEACHER, NURSE, VOLUNTEER, PREACHER etc.
2. Frankly my DEAR: LIfE and all aspects of life at every age and every stage in life, for EVERYONE, is a perpetual MOVING BAR:
Your assertion that SOMEONE other than the game of life and facts and the rules of the game move the bar, verifys that YOU NEED A REFUND on your IVY LEAGUE EDUCATION>
YOU WERE “HAD”.
3. CHOICES< CHOICES< CHOICES< CHOICES, PSSST my DEAR, this is a FREE country, everyone makes FREE CHOICES about the pursuit of the hopes and dreams, and in fact every aspect of their lives and a verified fact is that everyone and everything in life is “CHANCE” baised on your choice, (FREE WILL) win, lose, or draw.
MY DEAR Michelle, because you are PRINCESS PERPETUAL PITY PARTY does not Qualify you to expect that your Husband is OWED ACCESS TO THE OVAL OFFICE.
Frankly, he is immature, unqualified, reckless, a racist and dangerous.
May we suggest that you and your husband, who hate America, blame whites for every one of your challenges in life need to find a country more compatible to your expectations, demands and needs?

American liberalism IS and WAS founded on Communism. Socialism is a form of communism.
Obama wants control of the Healthcare Industry. He wants to determine suitable profits for businesses. He wants cradle to grave living expenses covered for all Americans. He wants to go after the rich. He obviously doesn't let God get in his way. He wants to confiscate guns. His pastor and his church are obviously Marxist Revolutionists ala Black Lib Theology. So how am I far off with my characterization? I also think the same of most Dem/libs. Calling something "progressive" when it actually harkens back to the U.S.S.R. style govt does not dress up the pig. Pravda and Winston Smith would recognize the language tricks that the Dem/libs use. |
|
|
I HEARD THAT A HILLARY SUPPORTER WAS THE ONE WHO INVITED REV WRIGHT TO SPEAK AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE. CAN YOU CONFIRM THAT AND IF TRUE, I WOULD SAY HILLARY IS OUT FOR THE KILL |
|
Everyone who is trying to figure out Wright's motive for extending his 15 minutes and as he does pretty much just hammering nails into Barry's coffin need look no further than the Rev's present 'occupation'. And I don't mean as a 'preacher'.
Jerry Wright, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and ALL of the rest of the race baiters, as well as a goodly number of Democrat politicians will find themselves out of 'work' if Obama becomes POTUS.
Where would the 'rampant racism of the white man' be if a black man can become president? Sure they'll still be plugging away but the basis of their claims will be easily dissuaded and their 'donations' will suffer a hit. As for the Dem pols? They will have to worry about more competition from black candidates, which then splits their voter base and they too will find it hard to hang onto their reins of power.
So in reality, none of them want Obama to actually win this thing. They are all hoping the 'gesture' is sufficient.

Scarlet:
"American liberalism IS and WAS founded on Communism. Socialism is a form of communism."
... American Liberalism (Neo Liberalism) was borne of New Liberalism which, as clearly documented by its supporters, sought to counter what it believed to be radical capitalism (fostered by laissez-faire US Governance).
The policies of what you've broadly described as Liberalism (in modern terms), specifically their focus in Health Care and Natural Resources (Oil), are guided by what they believe to be "good for the state"... Not necessarily a bad thing... when generally considered.
So you're correct, that as a Liberal, Sen. Obama and most Democratics support a highly regulated industries (Health Care & Oil), not necessarily under the premise of "Cradle-to-Grave", "Nanny State" governance, but by what they believe to be in the best interest of state (people). The struggle has been, and will remain, what Americans believe to be the purpose of government, and subsequent to that fact, the policies advanced.
Although Liberalism's call for greater regulation may reflect the tenets of Socialism, it should not be equated. This holds true when Conservatism is compared to more socially rigid societies within the Middle East... Both comparisons only serve to inflame our emotional state and do little to support ideology.

he changes language to "make people understand". Tomato Tomahto brother. Historically, American liberalism was influenced greatly by the Communist Party in USSR. They admired Stalin and his Universal Healthcare. Call it what you want it is communism when you boil it down. And it scares me that you are not bothered by the phrase, "good for the state" and "best interest of the state". What do you think THE STATE is? How about "We the people"? And "govt by the people, of the people and for the people"? |
|
Good Morning.
You misunderstood... rather... I offered commentary without stating my position.
I am NOT a defender of Communism. My point was that, rather relating to Communism and/or Socialism, the characterizations don't illustrate our shared point well.
"They admired Stalin and his Universal Healthcare."
... Stalin (Not Relevant). His Health Care system, Completely Relevant. Liberalism supports its "obligation" to provide Health Care as it historically has... What's in the interest of the people/state"... I HAVE NOT accepted this as the Government's Role, thus DO NOT support Sen. Obama & Clinton's proposals.
"..you are not bothered by the phrase, "good for the state" and "best interest of the state". What do you think THE STATE is? How about "We the people"? And "govt by the people, of the people and for the people"?"
.... Easy. I agree with you. The phrase certainly brings to mind old Soviet-style oppression. I am careful though, not to characterize too much. I would prefer to consider the principles or tenets of my government as opposed to how they compare to the practices of Communism.

helped to bring Rev Wright to NPC. Fox News has gotten exactly what they want out of it. They have spent much air time, tv and radio on Rev. Wright and Senator Obama.
Obviously Rev. Wright is saying something that is true. Truth to power.
Did Dick Cheney serve in the military? Was that a fact? Did we sell WMD's to Saddam? Was that a fact? White Americans in power do not want folks to hear the truth. This is why the baited him and then twisted his words. Did the government give syphillis to Blacks on purpose? What makes you feel as though it could not happen again. Remember how all those white gays in San Fran were having sex in the park, think hard white people, parent were complaining something awful because their kids would walk thru the park and catch these white men in various sex acts. Next thing you know we have an epedimic of AIDS. Silicone Valley creation. Check your facts, people. Folks just do not want to believe that America would do any wrong.
Give me an example of White Americans being humble. PLEASE!! |

ScarletPimpernel writes: Monday, April, 28, 2008 10:52 AM ++++++++++++++++++++ I agree with you. This is a distraction. They uphold Carl Rove who helped to put an honorable man who has won every elected office within a State, in jail then he is capable of anything. Carl Rove refused to show up for a supeona. Nothing was done, instead Fox news hired Carl Rove to analyze this presidential campaign.
Senator Obama has taken political campaigning to a new level. Jealous Pat Buchanan could not even come close to what the Senator has done. Keep up the good work though because while our gas prices, rice rationing Country falls by the waistside you continue to focus on RACE, continue to talk about Rev. Wright and Senator Obama's relationship, while Senator Clinton is on trial in California. Great job!! |

You asserted that I was a racist cracker. Obviously I'm not. That's why I let you know where I'm coming from. btw - Have you done your part and married a black woman yet? anyway.
Obama took care of my response to you today. He obviously feels the same way. Or else he's a slick politician;)
And if the majority of black congregants in these churches actually believe what Wright preaches then, yes, I am gravely concerned. Just as I am concerned about white power survivalists too. Or Al Quadea minded people. You're out of touch and a threat to civilized society. You're blind. Change your ways brother. |
