The Rest of the Story
Posted by: Jonathan Garthwaite at 9:32 AM
Hugh mentions the Strategic Vision  and Bloomberg/LA Times (7% MoE?!?!) polls in a post below but that's not what peaks my interest.  It was the other questions in the poll.

Do you see President George W. Bush as a conservative Republican in the mode of Ronald Reagan? (Republicans Only)
Yes 7%
No 72%
Undecided 21%
and

How important is it for the Republican presidential candidate to be a conservative Republican in the mode of Ronald Reagan? (Republicans Only)
Very Important 56%
Somewhat Important 12%
Not Very Important 7%
Not Important 10%
Undecided 15%
The Strategic Vision folks should have gone down the list of the big five (Romney, Huckabee, McCain, Thompson, Giuliani) and tested them against the "Reagan Mold" standard.   That would surely provide insight to why none of them are catching on and pulling away from the field.

This blog is a Romney campaign ad
Appeal to contributors:

I have been reading this blog for years. I used to really enjoy it as much as any other blog. NRO's "corner" and this blog were the first I read every day. Since Hugh has joined the bloggers, it has become nothing but an mudslinging tool for the Romney campaign. I also used to listen to Hugh when he did the local morning show on KRLA. I cannot even listen to his show anymore, what a shame. Since this blog is nothing more than a Romney campaign site, I find I cannot read it as much as I used to without getting angry. I understand contributors will have their favorites and will be biased based on those preferences, I can live with that. But it has reached the point of absurdity. When Huckabee (of whom I am not a fan) started to catch up to Romney in Iowa, orchestrated attacks on him began via Hugh posts. The points he posted were stright from the Romney talking points memo. Then, McCain started his surge, especially in New Hampshire. Then the McCain attacks began on cue. Post after post filled of vicious attacks on an American hero. I am not a supporter of McCain, he's my second choice right now, I am a Thompson supporter. I ask the other contributors to save this blog! It is losing serious credibility. SAVE THIS BLOG!

The media aren't going to let...
another Reagan-like president to sit behind-the-desk of the Oval Office.

Reagan caught them with their pants around their ankles in '80.

Just look at whom the media love to pound the hardest to find your first Reagan of THIS century.

It would help
If the GOP leadership was interested in a Reagan-like candidate (can't put it in a bottle though). They fought Reagan even when he was president. Bush was the annointed candidate in 1980 before Reagan stole the show and he couldn't keep the Bush team from taking over his second term and undermining the Reagan legacy with the Iran-Contra scandal. And we remember why Bush 41 got booted out. Reagan was loved and appreciated by voters but not those who serve as intermediaries between voters and government. Nothing has changed.
