Politicians Who Support Government-Run Health Care Should Lead By Example
Posted by: Townhall.com Staff at 11:08 AM
Guest blog post by Rep. John Fleming, M.D. (La.)

Over the past few weeks, members of Congress and the American people have come to know the details of the Administration’s proposed health care plan.  Call it what you like, this proposal is nothing more than government-run health care.  As a physician, I am amazed at the number of bureaucrats in this House who are quick to claim a government-run health care plan is the reform this country needs.  In response to this, I have offered a resolution that will offer members of Congress an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is, and urge their colleagues who vote for legislation creating a government-run health care plan to lead by example and enroll themselves in the same public plan.

Under the current draft of the Democrat health care legislation, members of Congress are curiously exempt from the government-run health care option, keeping their existing health plans and services on Capitol Hill.  If Members of Congress believe so strongly that government-run health care is the best solution for hard working American families, I think it only fitting that Americans see them lead the way.  Public servants should always be accountable and responsible for what they are advocating, and I challenge the American people to demand this from their representatives.

where are the facts?
As a mother of 2 young children, my husband and I have "good" insurance yet still spend upwards of $5000 in copays annually. Unless you are a complete hypocrite, I challenge you, Dr. Fleming, and your pro-insurance company cohorts to join the rest of the country and sign up for the same high-deductible plan that many of your constituents are forced to submit to. Seniors on medicare rejecting a public OPTION for all should be held to the same standard. When did this great country that at one time had the highest standard of living in the world (in the 1950's) become such a angry, hateful, selfish bunch of people? Will the swine flu pandemic, exacerbated by the inability of citizens to receive preventative care, finally grant you the ability to see the folly in your ways?

I'm tired of people repeating propaganda fed to them by the mainstream media (that is owned by huge corporations) without any backing whatsoever. This is turning into a fascist state, where everyone will be forced to participate in a "for profit" health care system because some tv pundit who makes 5 million a year tells them they are losing their freedom. Until your insurance company denies someone you love treatment, and you feel the pain of bankruptcy, terminal illness or death. Maybe the mega corporations will open a "debtors prison" to allow you to work off your misfortune, and then you will see what losing your freedom is really like.

My final challange: anyone rejecting the public option should freely divulge any campaign contributions and financial interest involving health insurance companies. Until you come clean on how this will benefit you, your words should fall on deaf ears.

Obama's "Healthcare"
As a registered nurse, I am extremely concerned over the president's plan regarding health care in this country. We seem to be quickly heading into a society of socialized medicine, where even middle class paying people will find it difficult to obtain quality health care. The president has stated that his grandmother should not have had hip surgery because of her terminal cancer. I doubt if he even has a clue how painful a fracture can be. So, would he WANT her to suffer even more than she was? Also, he feels that people should not receive aggressive care in the last year of their life. So, is he now able to determine exactly when a person's life will end? Don't tell me, please. (I like surprises). This country is rapidly losing its Democracy which has made us the Land of the Free for so many years. It's time to start speaking up, before the next person who can't receive medical treatment is you.

What does needle exchange have to do with health care?

Idiots
All Gov't workers get private insurance. We just pay for it. They have the cadillac plans (private plans). They don't even participate in Social Security. We tax-slaves just need to keep paying and shut our mouth. Ever seen a gov't pension? We dummies out here are on the hook for about $100 trillion in UNFUNDED liabilities due to gov't workers, gov't plans like SS and Medicare and we just keep electing these idiots. Hey, Barack, fire up that printing press, China won't lend to us anymore (and they don't have trillions anyway).

An example of Obama & Healthcare
Aids Activists Shut Down Capitol Rotunda Over Obama Reversal.

The activists chained themselves together and were arrested by the police this afternoon.

Candidate Obama said be would help overturn the ban on needle exchanges.

But however, President Obama reversed himself and banned federal funding for needle exchanges in his budget this year.

Yes perhaps that is why these clowns have been putting our SS money into general funds. If SS goes broke it won't affect them. They also have some pretty heafty pensions. Most today have nothing more than their 401K. I am sure that they also do not care if they cut monthly SS payments or if the raised the age to 75 it won't affect them anyway.

The moral party? NOT!
When I needed health care, you said, "GET A JOB!"

41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

Well, the jobs are gone because of the policies of the republicans. But at least their wealthy friends got richer! Your use of God's name to further yourselves and get votes is over. Real Christians are onto you -- you don't know Jesus and you act nothing like him! JESUS WAS A SOCIALIST WHO NEVER CHARGED FOR HEALTH CARE!

You are 100% correct. The same politicians also can put the social security in the stock market unlike the rest of us.
Shirley writes: Thursday, July, 09, 2009 3:06 PM
And you can do the same!
Mr. Flemming,

If you believe that private insurance is such a good deal, put your money where your mouth is and get off of the public option that you now have that is paid for by my tax dollars. You have the chance to lead by example, and purchase your own insurance coverage at the same prices you are advocating to stay in place.

Since you are such a champion of the health care insurance companies, purchase their policies and get on board with having your claims denied and policy cancelled should you get sick!

It is a great idea -- I expect you to do the same thing!

You know it will never happen. Look at Kennedy who has been pushing for years for socialized medicine. When he was diagnosed with a brain tumor he sought out the best specialists to treat him. Probably why he is still alive. You would have thought that would have taught him the value of quick diagnosis and treatment. Unfortuantely, these clowns believe that they are entitled to so much more than the rest of us. I heard a statement by someone that was working with Hillary on her health care at the time who said (and this is not a direct quote) that people need to be told what to do, they cannot decide on their own. I think that pretty much reflects the attitude of our politicians.

Good Idea - Amendment Needed!
First, put Congress on the system. Then let the Administration and all Federal Employees use it 100%. Then we will let State and Muni employees go on it. Thereafter, the Unions all need to be part of it. Only then, after we see its cost and benefits, will the US public be subjected to it. This limits the taxpayers exposure and allows for those that advocate it the most to "Put up or Shut Up".

Typical lefty "do as I say..."
...Elitist politicos will take the best health care resources for themselves, then dictate to The People what levels of health care they'll "receive" from Big Government Largesse. These politicos also don't avail themselves of Big Government "public" schools for their children - Big Politicos' kids go to the finest PRIVATE schools. Big Politicos have also exempted themselves from Social Security since its inception. They prefer, instead, the government employees' defined retirement systems and medical insurance programs. But the drooling, lefty sycophants are already lining up with their begging bowls held out in the direction of their supreme leader, president "God Dam* America" Hussein, clamoring, "gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme! Take it from THEM and gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme!"

I challenge you...
to give up your Congressional health-care and go out and buy a private policy like the rest of us whose employers choose not to provide one.

It's good enough for all of us but not for you?
