"Teflon John" and Barack Isuzu
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 10:12 AM
Guy Benson writes on the Dems' inability to land a hit on the GOP nominee.

Remember Joe Isuzu?  Or Jon Lovtiz's "That's The Ticket" Pathological Liar?  Or Al Gore and inventing the internet/flying with the FEMA director/the cost of his dog's medicine?

Barack Obama is making a bid to join that first circle of exaggerators.  "It is a touching story -- but the key details are either untrue or grossly oversimplified," concludes the Washington Post in a review of one claim Senator Obama has made about how his father got to the U.S.

Then's there's the question of resume pufferyThe University of Chicago Law School has put out this statement about Senator Obama's past teaching at the school.

In fact, thanks to Hillary, we have a list of many of Senator Obama's, ah, improvisations with facts. I reproduce the March 25 memo from the campaign here in case you missed it:

3/25/2008

Just Embellished Words: Senator Obama’s Record of Exaggerations & Misstatements

Once again, the Obama campaign is getting caught saying one thing while doing another. They are personally attacking Hillary even though Sen. Obama has been found mispeaking and embellishing facts about himself more than ten times in recent months. Senator Obama’s campaign is based on words –not a record of deeds – and if those words aren’t backed up by facts, there’s not much else left.

"Senator Obama has called himself a constitutional professor, claimed credit for passing legislation that never left committee, and apparently inflated his role as a community organizer among other issues. When it comes to his record, just words won't do. Senator Obama will have to use facts as well," Clinton spokesman Phil Singer said.

Sen. Obama consistently and falsely claims that he was a law professor. The Sun-Times reported that, "Several direct-mail pieces issued for Obama's primary [Senate] campaign said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He is not. He is a senior lecturer (now on leave) at the school. In academia, there is a vast difference between the two titles. Details matter." In academia, there's a significant difference: professors have tenure while lecturers do not. [Hotline Blog, 4/9/07; Chicago Sun-Times, 8/8/04]

Obama claimed credit for nuclear leak legislation that never passed. "Obama scolded Exelon and federal regulators for inaction and introduced a bill to require all plant owners to notify state and local authorities immediately of even small leaks. He has boasted of it on the campaign trail, telling a crowd in Iowa in December that it was 'the only nuclear legislation that I’ve passed.' 'I just did that last year,' he said, to murmurs of approval. A close look at the path his legislation took tells a very different story. While he initially fought to advance his bill, even holding up a presidential nomination to try to force a hearing on it, Mr. Obama eventually rewrote it to reflect changes sought by Senate Republicans, Exelon and nuclear regulators. The new bill removed language mandating prompt reporting and simply offered guidance to regulators, whom it charged with addressing the issue of unreported leaks. Those revisions propelled the bill through a crucial committee. But, contrary to Mr. Obama’s comments in Iowa, it ultimately died amid parliamentary wrangling in the full Senate." [New York Times, 2/2/08]

Obama misspoke about his being conceived because of Selma. "Mr. Obama relayed a story of how his Kenyan father and his Kansan mother fell in love because of the tumult of Selma, but he was born in 1961, four years before the confrontation at Selma took place. When asked later, Mr. Obama clarified himself, saying: 'I meant the whole civil rights movement.'" [New York Times, 3/5/07]

LA Times: Fellow organizers say Sen. Obama took too much credit for his community organizing efforts. "As the 24-year-old mentor to public housing residents, Obama says he initiated and led efforts that thrust Altgeld's asbestos problem into the headlines, pushing city officials to call hearings and a reluctant housing authority to start a cleanup. But others tell the story much differently. They say Obama did not play the singular role in the asbestos episode that he portrays in the best-selling memoir 'Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.' Credit for pushing officials to deal with the cancer-causing substance, according to interviews and news accounts from that period, also goes to a well-known preexisting group at Altgeld Gardens and to a local newspaper called the Chicago Reporter. Obama does not mention either one in his book." [Los Angeles Times, 2/19/07]

Chicago Tribune: Obama's assertion that nobody had indications Rezko was engaging in wrongdoing 'strains credulity.' "…Obama has been too self-exculpatory. His assertion in network TV interviews last week that nobody had indications Rezko was engaging in wrongdoing strains credulity: Tribune stories linked Rezko to questionable fundraising for Gov. Rod Blagojevich in 2004 -- more than a year before the adjacent home and property purchases by the Obamas and the Rezkos." [Chicago Tribune editorial, 1/27/08]

Obama was forced to revise his assertion that lobbyists 'won't work in my White House.' "White House hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) was forced to revise a critical stump line of his on Saturday -- a flat declaration that lobbyists 'won't work in my White House' after it turned out his own written plan says they could, with some restrictions… After being challenged on the accuracy of what he has been saying -- in contrast to his written pledge -- at a news conference Saturday in Waterloo, Obama immediately softened what had been his hard line in his next stump speech." [Chicago Sun-Times, 12/16/07]

FactCheck.org: 'Selective, embellished and out-of-context quotes from newspapers pump up Obama's health plan.' "Obama's ad touting his health care plan quotes phrases from newspaper articles and an editorial, but makes them sound more laudatory and authoritative than they actually are. It attributes to The Washington Post a line saying Obama's plan would save families about $2,500. But the Post was citing the estimate of the Obama campaign and didn't analyze the purported savings independently. It claims that "experts" say Obama's plan is "the best." "Experts" turn out to be editorial writers at the Iowa City Press-Citizen – who, for all their talents, aren't actual experts in the field. It quotes yet another newspaper saying Obama's plan "guarantees coverage for all Americans," neglecting to mention that, as the article makes clear, it's only Clinton's and Edwards' plans that would require coverage for everyone, while Obama's would allow individuals to buy in if they wanted to.” [FactCheck.org, 1/3/08]

Sen. Obama said 'I passed a law that put Illinois on a path to universal coverage,' but Obama health care legislation merely set up a task force. "As a state senator, I brought Republicans and Democrats together to pass legislation insuring 20,000 more children. And 65,000 more adults received health care…And I passed a law that put Illinois on a path to universal coverage." The State Journal-Register reported in 2004 that "The [Illinois State] Senate squeaked out a controversial bill along party lines Wednesday to create a task force to study health-care reform in Illinois. […] In its original form, the bill required the state to offer universal health care by 2007. That put a 'cloud' over the legislation, said Sen. Dale Righter, R-Mattoon. Under the latest version, the 29-member task force would hold at least five public hearings next year." [Obama Health Care speech, 5/29/07; State Journal-Register, 5/20/04]

ABC News: 'Obama…seemed to exaggerate the legislative progress he made' on ethics reform. "ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports: During Monday's Democratic presidential debate, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., seemed to exaggerate the legislative progress he has made on disclosure of "bundlers," those individuals who aggregate their influence with the candidate they support by collecting $2,300 checks from a wide network of wealthy friends and associates. When former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel alleged that Obama had 134 bundlers, Obama responded by telling Gravel that the reason he knows how many bundlers he has raising money for him is "because I helped push through a law this past session to disclose that." Earlier this year, Obama sponsored an amendment [sic] in the Senate requiring lobbyists to disclose the candidates for whom they bundle. Obama's amendment would not, however, require candidates to release the names of their bundlers. What's more, although Obama's amendment was agreed to in the Senate by unanimous consent, the measure never became law as Obama seemed to suggest. Gravel and the rest of the public know how many bundlers Obama has not because of a 'law' that the Illinois Democrat has 'pushed through' but because Obama voluntarily discloses that information." [ABC News, a=href"http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/07/obama-exaggerat.html">7/23/07]

Obama drastically overstated Kansas tornado deaths during campaign appearance. "When Sen. Barack Obama exaggerated the death toll of the tornado in Greensburg, Kan, during his visit to Richmond yesterday, The Associated Press headline rapidly evolved from 'Obama visits former Confederate capital for fundraiser’ to ‘Obama rips Bush on Iraq war at Richmond fundraiser' to 'Weary Obama criticizes Bush on Iraq, drastically overstates Kansas tornado death toll' to 'Obama drastically overstates Kansas tornado deaths during campaign appearance.' Drudge made it a banner, ensuring no reporter would miss it." [politico.com, 5/9/07]

You have been "outed",
this dem primary has shown, that, you white feminist liberals, simply have no standing, to accuse anyone of racism, either you are ignorant, or you refuse to see what has taken, place, for decades, you have used blacks, for their votes, all the while feigning disgust for racism, Wright, Farrakhan, and Obama, see through you, that don't buy it, and now, Obama is playing you, just like you played them for decades, for votes, of course, Obama won't admit that, he needs your vote, but these race hustlers, they make NO distinction, between you and me, we are white, we are the problem, the "blue eyed devil", if you will, the difference between you and me, is that i don't feel guilty, you do, and you feel that that guilt, exempts you from their scorn, it emphatically, does not, because in those sermons of Wright's, i heard NO distinction made, whitey is whitey, and as such, he is THE problem, and those sermons go on in black churches, all across this country, each and ever Sunday, and it is deplorable, and your white guilt, assuages nothing, for white feminists, both female and male, in your party are fighting tooth and nail, to maintain control, of it, and in doing so, exposes, your race problem, you simply have NO standing, concerning race any more.

It surprises me not, that you implore me to repudiate some words of a poster on this thread----this site.
You and your Liberal/Leftist ilk are the authors of, "The Age Of Entitlement", and, by God, you are entitled to get from me what you demand. Of course, I shall never get away with demanding from you that you help clean up the vitriol, the HATE, the incredible ignorance, racism existing on sites such as, Huffington Post, DailyKos, MediaMatters, MoveOn.org, etc.

I mean those are your peeps on that site contributing to, despicable personal assaults. I could ask from you that you start your quest of entitlement by cleaning up your own backyard. But that would get me nowhere---for you would not remotely comply. You would most likely not offer a reply.
But this is all about your, "entitlement".

I find this phase of the campaign most revealing in its affirmation characteristics. Your own Democrat Party candidate, Hillary Clinton, digs up the lion's share of material which many of these threads are about, and people like you transfer your anxieties to conservatives. It's conservatives who are the, "race hustlers", not Bill Clinton with his various comments this year. Not Hillary Clinton and her twisting of phrases. Not reverend Wright. Nope, Democrats, progressives, leftists, libs are clean.

It's these damn posters on this site.

You got a 20+ year high level "mentor", a professed, "uncle" of your desired candidate stirring up bonafide African-Nationalist hate, Farrakhan-fomenting fandangos, U.S.KKK A.-conspiratorial concoctions, BUT YOU, call me out to chastise some "word" typed on a keyboard by an "alleged", republican-party-poster.

That's pretty corny, Laborlawyer.

What I'm saying is that you are inferring that "we" are responsible for what other people in this thread write---people by the way, whom we have never met, and would never recognize walking down the street---yet you have earnestly defended Obama's mentor relationship with Reverend Wrong.
Obama has attended Reverend Wrong's church for twenty years because he BELIEVES in him.
Obama wrote that Reverend Wrong is the most influential male in his life.

But I guess when all else fails, you can just impugne everyone by playing the race card.

Ironically, Reverend Wrong's church is the place where race is a defining issue. And Obama has winked at Reverend Wrong's hyperventillating anti-America, anti-Semitic hate-mongering for 20 years.

It may not disturb you that the foaming-at-the-mouth Jew-hating Louis Farrakhan is an honored member of society in the eyes of Obama's church, but it disturbs me.

What I've learned from this discussion
A definable number of Republicans are racists. The rest aren't, but they'll wink knowingly at the bigots amongst them rather than confronting them. And Republicans as a whole don't care if the way they win is by whipping up race hatred.

If that's "western civilization", you can count me out.

I really feel sad about this. But it is nonetheles proof that Obama and Condi Rice are right in pointing out how burdened we are by America's "birth defect". You folks can joke about it all you want (yes, you too Neo) but it reveals a serious moral failing on the conservative side of American politics.

It may work. It has in the past. But that will never, ever make it morally right.

Good point re: Bush and WMD. He's not responsible for that, but BHO is culpable for some anti-semitic rant in his church bulletin.

And to compound it, this us the same crowd that argued hyper-assertively that a member of an unusual and basically unpopular Christian sect deserved to be considered for President without any questions put to his faith. Now they are nuancing distinctions between Mitt's case and BHO, but the constant is the level of aggressive certitude. Basically, no principle. Whatever works for the moment. if you are a lawyer, then you are familiar with 'crimes of specific intent.' Racism is very much a crime of specific intent. Negress is merely the feminization of Negroe, which causes liberals to shudder.

AND, asking a black person if that specific word offends is a loaded way of going about it. While the 'N' word, when used by a non black is universally offensive, normal blacks, unindoctrinated in the ways of the crypto-socialist, professional victim, academic left, might describe negroe as antiquated but inoffensive. Indeed, MLK referred in official correspondence to negroes and the plight of the negroe.

AND, there are some blacks who will stomp around in high dudgeon if you call them anything other than African America. Most people are almost as sick of this as they are of white, effete liberals instructing other people how to think, how to feel and how to talk.

When you label another poster here a 'racist' or a 'bigot' based upon the use of the term "negress" you are dismissing him/her out of hand.

Please consider this one of my rare invitations to STFU. :-)

Sorry, bub. The idea that your side owns the creative idea market is a conceit you'll have to abandon. Was a time, a quarter century ago. No longer. Ideas which convert into strategic failure, economic deterioration, moral erosion, fiscal mismanagement, widespread corruption, and general misgovernance, are not exactly the best products of human creativity.

Nor is it "Bush or the UN". That's a false choice. Boomer conservatism has failed to advance both America's interests and the interests of broader humanity. In fact, I would argue that these false dichotomies, however politically effective, are the primary reason why conservative thought has become so uncalibrated and unhinged. So it is back to the drawing board with you. Enjoy your time in the wilderness..

The NAACP was founded a hundred years ago. It was a term of the era--an era where the number one "civil rights issue" was whether or not lynching was okay.

As for the brothers using the "n" word, it is a way to expropriate an ugly term and drain it of its meaning.

I'm as racist as the next fellow, but I can see these things. Ethnic minorities can be racist, and often are--more racist than whites, it seems. But the worst kind of racist are jack-asses who claim they are not racist. Or the ones who sputter at the 'pretensions' of those of us who recognize there is a problem. Or who cite outliers like Clarence Thomas (didn't Condi deliver a comment on racism last week?) as proof that the problem is not them. Enough, already. Better to be an honest racist than a phony non-racist..

I don't know how I missed this, but McCain's ad's final line: "John McCain: The American president Americans have been waiting for." It appears to be an allusion to Michell Obama's much-quoted line that "we are the ones we have been waiting for."

That has to hurt.

Michelle Obama anti-American has also expressed sentiments like, "life in America is not good, we're a country that is just down right mean . . . We're a country that is guided by fear, We're a nation of cynics, sloths and complacents." These all put her in the same hymnal as Rev. Wright.

JOHN MCCAIN: Keep that faith. Keep your courage. Stick together. Stay strong. Do not yield. Stand up. We're Americans. And we'll never surrender.
ANNCR: What must a president believe about us? About America?

That she is worth protecting?

That liberty is priceless?

Our people, honorable?

Our future, prosperous, remarkable and free?

And, what must we believe about that president?

What does he think?

Where has he been?

Has he walked the walk?

NVA INTERVIEWER: What is your rank?

JOHN MCCAIN: Lt. Commander in the Navy.

Rich, I cannot cut McCain a break on the gitmo issue. Yes, he was tortured, and that he came through it and had the career that he has had is honorable and remarkable. However, what John McCain feels about torture should not cancel out a valuable intelligence resource. I do not accept the premise that the men in gitmo are tortured. They may undergo harsh interrogation but that is not the same thing. Ever rush for a frat? Some of what they call torture makes me laugh when I think of what used to go on back in the 80's and 90's. If harsh interrogation leads to solid intel (and it has) it is something we should continue doing, regardless of what John Mccain's personal history is. The fact that he is willing to toss away something valuable in the name of vanity (America is better than that) does not speak well of his judgment in foreign affairs. Protecting ourselves and procuring good intel should be our top priority. Leave the image construction to the state department.

Call it suicide if you will. I call it a choice I'm prepared to live with. A vote for McCain is a signal to the GOP that you will reward politicians who don't represent you; they lie their way into office and screw you raw, then tell you to vote for them again. There is no accountability for failure to represent the values they claimed to stand for. You're sending a very bad message to the next generation of young politicians.
Any bad legislation that McCain decides to inflict on us will be supported by Democrats (whom he has more in common with) and Republicans who will go along with the Republican President. That means global warming BS legislation, amnesty, ect.
Not voting for McCain, letting one of the other libs win, you'll get the same legislation, but you just taught the GOP that they are accountable to the voters who they pump for money. And you'll have the Republicans in the house voting in opposition to stupid ideas like amnesty and global warming, instead of for them. That's my policy calculus; agree or disagree, I don't really care. I'm just one guy following my own code.
How do you reconcile voting for someone who barely a year ago was the ringleader of one of the filthiest attempted back room screw jobs of the American public? Just think about how McCain tried to sneak it by; secret deals with La Raza, Ted Kennedy; no hearings...is that what you want for a President? Did you ever ask yourself why Juan Hernandez is attached to McCain's campaign, and not one of the Democrats? Best of luck to you working for McCain, but I think you'll regret your vote more than I will mine.

Oppose'liberal live for today' attitude
I am something of a skeptic about Anthropomorphic Global Warning, but I do believe we must become energy self sufficient for Natural Security reasons. I thin McCain's Common Sense Approach to stewardship for the earth and her resources is the best approach:

"As John McCain said, 'Americans solve problems. We don't run from them.' He believes that ignoring the problem reflects a 'liberal live for today' attitude unworthy of our great country, and poses a serious and unacceptable threat to our environment, our economy, and U.S. national security. He has offered common sense approaches to limit carbon emissions by harnessing market forces that will bring advanced technologies, such as nuclear energy, to the market faster, reduce our dependence on foreign supplies of energy, and see to it that America leads in a way that ensures all nations do their rightful share.

By addressing this problem responsibly, John McCain believes we can meet our obligation to be proper caretakers of creation, in a manner of which we can be proud - by protecting our country, strengthening our economy, and addressing the challenges of our time, rather than leaving a much worse problem for our children. "

With that said, I will be a do deal more comfortable with McCain calling the shots than the spendthrift approach Obama and Hillary will take. Hillary and Obama will turn the check book over to environmental hacks. McCain is death on pork barrel spending of any kind.

Rich from CA, I'm assuming you mean McCain is going to court Democrats with his record of screwing the GOP in order to show them he has nothing in common with the right wing. The only part of his record that the GOP is actually citing is his veteran status. Everything else pretty much makes him look like a giant backstabbing a***ole.
The Shamnesty bill, back room dealings with La Raza and all, doesn't say much for his character. Neither does his McCain-Feingold bill. His fixation on a new Kyoto treating and 'doing something' about Global Warming doesn't give him many points in the economics department either. Unless you're a center right democrat, there is not much reason to vote for McCain. So, what else in his record makes him so much better? Ah, he's 'good on the war'. Yes, no more interrogations and shutting down gitmo. But hey, at least he's a veteran. That makes up for the rest of it.

The fact that the Republicans have fallen short doesn't change the fact that conservatives own the creative idea market.

It's bubbling with solutions to problems that have existed for decades. You have yet to tell me what beyond the 1960's the Democrats have proposed that doesn't feed into a bloated, bureaucratic system or entrenched special interest (Teachers Unions for example)in order to achieve a desired result.

That fact that the Republican Party has fallen short (in a big way) doesn't mean we are going to give up in trying to incrementally pushing the conservative agenda. The Pubbie party is the only vehicle we have - we have to vote for the party we have..and try to change it.

Dishonest. What are you talking about ? You don't actually believe there is an honest bone in Baraks body ? Please. It was his pastor and his cheering congregation that made these statements. Standing up and cheering. I have never seen anything so disgusting.
Oh wait yes I have.
I am native American. Back in 71 there was a movie called Soldier Blue. I watched this movie in a theater in downtown Chicago. At that time most of the theaters downtown were 90% black audience's. The story was about the plight of the Native Americans. There was a scene where the white army was taking revenge on a native village. Babies and children were killed, women raped, a bloody gruesome massacre.
Everyone in the theater stood up and cheered. Men were yelling rape that one.
There was no sympathy for the natives. Now this was back in 71. Since then blacks have learned to use the Native Americans to further their own hate. What I have seen is a very self centered group of people who have no compassion for any other group of people. They will never move beyond themselves.

AND, never, never, everrrrrrr ASSume they'll keep their crosshairs of Juan McCain for much longer. Any little fireball he can lob their way is good because it keeps'um dividing their attention and off-balance.

"You can trust me"
Yikes. When either the Obaminable Barrack or Hilliray the Castrator open those holes under their noses, my hand grabs reflexively for my wallet anymore. Honorable people never need to brag anything about themselves or their accomphishments as those are already known facts. These two lying sacks may finally drive this sorry excuse for a political party into the mountain it's been aimed at for the past 25 years. JFK wouldn't believe what he saw with his own eyes.

Barack Obama CV
Senator Obama's Chicago Law School CV can be found at brokengovernment.wordpress.com/2008/02/13/barack-obama-is-he-the-one/
(just cut and paste the url) It was taken from the Chicago Law School web site prior to their removing it from view. It clearly states that he was a Senior Lecturer.

You're right. That would be very effective. Dishonest, but effective. We can expect a dishonest but effective campaign from the Reeps this year. This may be the year, though..this may be the year.

Perhaps they can show video of the towers coming down and Americans jumping from the burning buildings to their deaths. All the while Pastor Wright is screaming "God damn America, the chickens have come home to roost".

Obama "Don't tell me words don't matter".

where are the cheerleaders?
Then again, we have McBush, not supported by the base of his own party. Suddenly, the words "illegal immigrants" have disappeared from the rightwing lexicon. Let's hear some big huzzas for the Republican candidate, who promised to run for one term only. Go, Johnny, go!

A bit more than a month ago, I remember reading all too may posts on this forum about how Obama was going to mop the floor with McCain.

I stated at the time that Barack Obama had a cocked gun at his head but he was too arrogant to realize it. Now, in the wake of Jeremiah Wright and a few other precious tidbits, Republicans are beginning to understand just how EASY its going to beat Obama.

James Carville said something this morning on CNN that I thought was astonishing. When asked about Wright and Obama's electability, Carville said, "This is just one thing of about 100."

100?

Folks, we have only just begun to touch the surface about Barack Obama's unique disqualifications for the presidency - from requested earmarks for the hospital his wife works as an over-paided executive, to his associations with Farrahkan, to Louis Ayers.

And, of course, when the public learns Obama has sided with his radical Muslim cousin in Kenya who has requested the government adopt shariah, it will not only devastate Obama but Democrats in congressional races as well.

Michele Obama "This is the first time I've ever been proud of my country".

Pastor Wright "God damn America. The chickens have come home to roost".

Barak Obama "Don't tell me words don't matter".

Enough said.

Facts, Hercule, facts!
Inspector Clouseau would ask for facts from Obama. I want to see the RNC blast Obama on his issues, stands, agendas. And do it now. 1. His socialist economic views; regulations, govt. hikes in taxes et al. 2. His complete lack of understanding of immigration. 3. His complete lack of understanding of Islamofascism and our national security. Then ask him about where he wants our education system to be like. Then grill him on how his govt. health care is any different from the Hildabeast's. Facts Hercule, facts.

can be soooooooooooooooooooo insensitive.

Bazama's had such an extreme free-pass, it's tripley noticable now that he's hitting some fan blades. WHEW!

McJuan best not ASSume Anything with the scuzzbags of the press or Hillaryland. He's a tad off the screen, but only for a little while. Hitting them with some Very Tough WARTIME aggressiveness whilst they're busy nipping at each other will be a nice touch...Say, the upcoming Jacksonville speech. Play to your strengths, Johnny Boy, and to their weaknesses.
