Rudy's Partial Position
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 1:00 PM

Rudy now says the Supreme Court Decision on partial birth abortion was correct.

... What about this?

That's the problem with being a Democrat
By being squishy on positions, they are always "only partly" pregnant. Somehow, I don't find any comfort in knowing that "at least Hillary's agenda will be fulfilled by Rudy and not Hillary". Let's get a conservative candidate on the ballot already and put an end to this miserable early phase of the 2008 campaign. McCain and Giuliani simply don't cut in and are going to lead the GOP to a 2008 disaster.

It's the judges, stupid
Bottom line, of the announced GOP candidates, Rudy is the ONLY one who can beat Hillary. He's said he'll nominate judges in the mold of Roberts and Alito, and I'm very confident we won't see a Harriet Meiers from Rudy, which automatically makes him more conservative from a practical perspective than the current occupant.

Just because somebody talks a line about abortion doesn't mean they'll do anything to further the conservative cause. Look at the GOP congress from 1996-2006. Rudy got results, which is more than we can say about any of the announced or unannounced GOP candidates when it comes to furthering conservatism.

Plus, unlike the others, he can actually win.

This election is far too dangerous to be playing the "purity" card. We need somebody who can deliver results and, more importantly, keep Clinton out of the White House.

Flip Flop
I would call this statement by Rudy a flip flop, but not any more significant than Romney's three or four flip flops on major issues. I'll be curious to hear Rudy's explanation for this. I've never bought any of Romney's excuses, so I'll be curious to hear Rudy's spin on this.

"the only one who can beat Hillary!"
It's beginning to look like Obama can beat her too according to the new Gallup poll. And the McCain people keep saying that HE is the only one who can beat her. Let's just all agree that someone is the only one who can beat Hillary. And let's make that the only reason why we vote for our candidate. Brilliant! Dispenses any need to discuss and fight for issues that we care about. Just phone it in boys!

Rudy can take the heat

Matt,

I'm opposed to partial-birth abortion.

But whether you agree with him or not, at least Rudy has the courage to state positions publicly and take the heat that comes with it.

Your candidate John McCain is afraid of going on talk radio shows where he'll be asked "tough" questions about his Senate record.

And Matt, speaking of stating positions publicly and taking the heat, why don't you write a column which articulates why you believe conservatives should support McCain ?
