Rudy Learns the Downside of Internet Innovation

You probably saw this yesterday:
The International Association of Fire Fighters accused Republican Rudy Giuliani of exploiting the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks because a supporter is holding a $9.11-per-person fundraiser for the presidential candidate.
The union -- already a vocal critic of Giuliani's -- said Tuesday that the fundraiser's "$9.11 for Rudy" theme is an abuse of the image and symbols of the 2001 attacks.
Here’s the statement Giuliani spokesperson Maria Comella about it:
"These are two volunteers who acted independently of and without the knowledge of the campaign. Their decision to ask individuals for that amount was an unfortunate choice."
First, it's entirely possible this was planted by another campaign. I mean, how hard would it be for Campaign A to have volunteers sign-up for a house party for Campaign B, and then do something like this?
... Of course, even assuming this was an innocent mistake, this just serves to further underscore the unfortunate danger associated with campaigns using the internet in an innovative fashion.
Rudy's admirable goal was to empower his supporters to take a leadership role in the campaign, by planning their own events. Yet he got burned ...
When we criticize stodgy political consultants who advise their candidates not to fully-engage the internet, we should remember that they are considering the downside. And when we criticize top-down campaigns that want to micro-manage every last detail of the campaign, we must realize that this is the reason.
Ultimately, the benefits of running an innovative campaign often outweigh the loss of control. But it's only fair to point out that there is a downside to giving others control of your campaign ...

Securing the border and enforcing the law is the only way we get to keep our rule of law, our representative Republic, and our Constitution. If citizenship becomes meaningless, this will no longer be the United States of America.
If the GOP thinks they can continue to import cheap labor for their donors at the expense of the citizens, they will. I will not vote for that again. If we continue to play the game of "the other guy is worse", we will lose our country. Sorry, but I will not participate in that game any longer. The GOP power brokers think we will vote for "anybody but a Democrat" so they can continue to ignore securing the borders and enforcing the laws. I'm hoping GOP primary voters give the party elites some surprises in the primaries. The levers of power and the money in the GOP are all in the hands of the cheap labor express. They do not want Hunter as the candidate. We have to make him the nominee by voting in the primaries. We have to talk to our friends and neighbors about him. He is not going to get media coverage. It's going to have to be a grass roots effort. I want to vote for a GOP candidate in Nov.'08, I will not vote for any of the amnesty supporters. I oppose changing the laws to suit those breaking them. If it takes crushing the GOP so a new party representing American citizens can arise, so be it.
The so-called "top tier" will not get out the voters necessary for a GOP win. Increasing turnout is the key. Give people something to vote for. Not just the lesser of two evils. Won't work this time. People are fed up with the inundation of illegal aliens. They would come out in droves for the clear choice of D=amnesty or R=enforcement. They will stay home if they both equal amnesty.

You wrote, "Rudy Learnes the Downside to Internet Innovation"
My edit would have read, "Rudy Learns the Downside to Internet Innovation"
You Gomers think you know how to speak French or something? *laughter* |

Sorry to get this off subject, but in recent days I've noticed ad billboards on Fox News, Town Hall and Drudge Report of the Washington Capitals hockey team.
Has anyone elese noticed this or is it an IP address or cookie thing. My brother in Palm Beach Gardens, FL has experienced exactly what I have in regards to Washington Capitals online ads. I'm thinking that the Caps are on this crazy internet ad spree, but I could be wrong. Matt, do you have inside info regarding the Caps advertising on Town Hall? |

"that amount was an unfortunate choice"
That response was an unfortunate choice. What they should have said was, "Our independent supporters acted independently; they chose the amount themselves; if you don't like it, please whine quietly because you are disturbing the adults."
Stand up, fight back, tell the losers to shut up.
If their crying out, its because you're hitting them where it hurts. |

Of course I meant, "if they're crying out,..." Still valid. |

Matt Lewis,
The INTERNATIONAL Association of Fire Fighters ? It sounds like they might be headquartered in Berlin....or Boston. Ha, ha, ha. Matt, this is the same political organization that was revealed to be full of John Kerry partisan activists in the 2004 election. Their Democratic credentials are well-known.
I know you like to give air time to anyone who has something 'bad' to say about Rudy or Mitt, but Ahmadinejad is in town, and most folks are focused on Islamic Jihad right now...care to join us ? |
|
|
I guess we'll hear about it after they pass it? Is Townhall really a conservative site? |
|
....have so little to complain about that this becomes an issue....?
We are a nation of spoiled children. Have you been watching "The War" this week? THAT was the USA. I don't know what you call this.... |

All I know, is Rudy tough on crime, tough on terrorism, and will be tough on Hillary too. I am a strong pro lifer and was not Rudy supporter, I am still undecider, still don`t appriciate unfair attacks on him. We conservatives should be ready for a very dirty fight against Soros force. |
