Mike "Public Safety Bear" Wooten
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 9:45 AM
Remember Mike Wooten? He's the still-employed Alaska State Trooper who beat his wife, tasered his stepson and threatened to kill Sarah Palin's dad.

He was never fired because Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, another wife beater, kept him on the force. After Monegan, a political appointee, defied the Governor on a number of budget issues, she fired him. And yet, the investigation into Palin's "abuse of power" continues.

And, we get this nugget from the New York Times today:

The 2007 state fair was days away when Alaska’s public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, took another call about one of his troopers, Michael Wooten. This time, the director of Gov. Sarah Palin’s Anchorage office was on the line.

As Mr. Monegan recalls it, the aide said the governor had heard that TrooperWooten was assigned to work the kickoff to the fair in late August. If so, Mr. Monegan should do something about it, because Ms. Palin was also planning to attend and did not want him nearby.

Somewhat bewildered, Mr. Monegan soon determined that Trooper Wooten had indeed volunteered for duty at the fairgrounds — in full costume as “Safety Bear,” the troopers’ child-friendly mascot.

Ironic.

Wrong again
Another poor judgment call by McCain. In August the "Country First" stuff was merely offensive, implying that if you don't support McCain you were unpatriotic. Now the slogan is just a pathetic reminder of how cynical the GOP has become.

We've got 2 abusers of power in office right now. McCain would make sure their heiress follows them.

fill in the punchline
Why is a "maverick" so terrified to take responsibility for her mistakes and comply with this investigation? The state legislature's inquiry began before Palin was even being considered for the vice presidency. Why is she hiding behind the McCain campaign? What do you get when you cross a chicken, a weasel and lipstick??? (open-ended question)

Truth
The allegations against Monegan about wife-beating are SO scurrilous. They have been manufactured to try to demonize someone who most Alaskans knew to be a dedicated public servant.

Palin has used so many different excuses for firing Monegan that it makes my head spin. She said that he went on a trip to ask for money from D.C. without permission--then documents came out showing Palin authorized that trip. Whoops. She's come out with multiple other reasons, all of which have been debunked.

There's been no explanation for why she was illegally trying to block Wooten's worker's compensation claim, or why her husband was stalking him.

This lady makes Cheney looks honest and forthright...

Yep, let's keep those wife beaters in positions of power. Equal rights for thugs! Trying to get him fired was thugism! What hubris!

Yep. Seems she DID abuse her position of power against Monegan, didn't she? And where's the Christian "forgiveness"? Instead, Palin is a woman who would rather use the power of her office to play vindictive games against those who went against her on personal and professional issues. WE DO NOT NEED MORE OF BUSH'S MEAN-SPIRITED PETTINESS IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

And since Wooten was VOLUNTEERING as a Safety Bear, Monegan "bewilderment" is understandable. How is HE expected to keep the man from doing what he volunteered to do? Unbelievable hubris.

TrooperGate = Abuse of power. We DON'T want more of the same from the last horrific EIGHT YEARS. Palin/McSame spell trouble and a repeat of the Bush administration.
