Attacking McCain
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 8:59 AM
Barack Obama's friend, neighbor and financier is in the dock in Chicago, Democratic superdelegate #9 Elliot Spitzer is negotiating a plea deal as a prelude to resignation, and Clinton surrogate Geraldine Ferraro is attacking Obama by arguing he is winning only because of his race, and the Washington Post runs with a story attacking John McCain because he has lobbyists on his campaign?

Every presidential campaign in modern times --both Republican and Democratic-- have lobbyists serving as senior decision makers and advisors.  That's because they know how campaigns are run, and they know the details of various policies on which debates turn.  Every issue central to a presidential campaign has a set of lobbyist experts associated with it somewhere in D.C., and some of these people are going to be involved with both campaigns.

There are genuine controversies and made-up controversies.  The attack on McCain's ties to lobbyists is in the latter category, a bit of MSM ballast useful to the controversy-mired Dems and nothing more.

Ya right Hugh
Most presidential campaigns do not have the number ONE serrogate for the Mexican Government heading their campaigns as McCain does.

Obama, Hillary, or McCain? Who gives a rats a ss. Any of the three of them will be the best President Mexico has ever had. Any of the three of them will kill the Blue Collar Work force in America on the behalf of Mexican Citizens.

All three are more socialist then Capitalist.

Does The GOP Want To Survive?

It's really up to Sen. McCain. If he wants our votes, he has to earn them.

He said he heard us after the last amnesty fight. He heard two things right. We want the border secured and we don't trust them. There apparently was alot he didn't hear.

He hired Juan Hernandez, who represents foreign nationals illegally in our country as his hispanic outreach, instead of reaching out to someone from "You Don't Speak For Me" a group of citizens of hispanic descent who oppose illegal aliens.

He said a couple of weeks ago he would sign McCain/Kennedy if it were put on his desk.

If he wants my vote, there are a couple of things he could do.
1. Publicly dismiss and disavow Juan Hernandez and the Reconquista for which he stands.
2. Apologize for conspiring in secret with La Raza and Ted Kennedy and trying to jam amnesty down our throats.
3. Pledge to veto ANY amnesty bill.
4. Pledge to enforce the laws, including deportation, which is the penalty for illegal aliens.

It's up to Sen. McCain, he can represent the interests of American citizens and uphold the rule of law or he can continue to court the favor of liberals and illegal aliens.

I will not vote for the latter.

Depressing isn't it
I watched Mitt Romney's interview on Hannity and Colmes last night and thought geez what happened. He's great. Now I'm left with twiddle dee, twiddle dumb and downright scary.
LeeLee writes: Wednesday, March, 12, 2008 11:24 AM
Romney Open to VP
Romney is now saying he is open to the VP spot and would be "honored."

McCain would be a fool not to choose Mitt, given his broad appeal to many conservatives.

However, McCain is a "maverick" -- which often means he is hell-bent on shooting himself in the foot and stabbing conservatives in the back.

If McCain picks Romney, I'll still be VERY surprised.

Lobbyists are troubling...
McCain's creepy grin, in response to questioning about his heavy involvement with Lobbyists is unattractive.

But then a 3 Decades old Washington Beltway Insider is never an attractive candidate for President.

The old Keating 5 Member may have learned to play the game correctly with unethical influence, but something still smells.

His Airbus connections, in light of the recent deal, are really troubling.

"McCain finance chairman Thomas G. Loeffler and Susan E. Nelson, who left Loeffler's lobbying firm to be McCain's finance director, both began lobbying for Airbus's parent company in 2007, Senate records show. William L. Ball III, a former secretary of the Navy and frequent McCain surrogate on the trail, also lobbied for Airbus, as did John Green, who recently took a leave from Ogilvy Public Relations to serve as McCain's legislative liaison."

The Gray Lady hid a concerning story of an unhealthy relationship with a Lobbyist to help McCain in the Primary, but even if there was no unhealthy sexual relationship, the account reveals a sincere lack of judgment.

But John McCain always has shown a lack of judgment. His effort in Campaign Finance Reform made matters worse by restricting FREE SPEECH.

He showed a misguided mentality in regards to Kosovo and the first Gulf War.

He even helped produce a ban of waterboarding in the Senate, with his Liberal placation for Votes in NH during the Campaign.

Sorry, John McCain is a disaster.

His aged presence on the Ticket, for his personal ambition, has already divided and weakened a Party, which he has been undermining for years.

John McCain remains a Celebrity Symbol for his self described failure in Washington.

He will need all the Lobbyist Votes he can get.
S/A86 writes: Wednesday, March, 12, 2008 1:28 PM
Don't kid yourselves....
Staying home and not voting for John McCain will get you another Clinton Administration or a Babakazama Administration.

Many of the people decrying McCain's outlook, votes and past sound like those who flocked to Perot in 1992.

Perot begat Clinton.

I will take McCain....we have a better chance of influencing McCain on policy than we do either of the dimocrats.

Sen. John Cornyn would disagree about influencing John McCain. If you disagree with him, he'll scream "F*&K You!" at you.
LeeLee writes: Wednesday, March, 12, 2008 1:44 PM
S/A86:
After significant introspection, I reached the point where you are at. I reluctantly came over the McCain side, recognizing that McCain was still "better" for America than anyone the Dems can offer.

However, based on the peristent arrogance of McCain and his supporters, I am beginning to re-think that decision. McCain and his supporters seem to insist on sticking their thumbs in the eyes of conservatives, while claiming to share our views and principles.

I've seen no evidence that McCain can be influenced by conservatives. After all, he is the great, all-knowing independent maverick. Sure, he back-peddled on McShamnesty. But that was only to get the nomination. He's already stated he would sign the bill as POTUS. Thus, I'm unconvinced he will listen to conservatives.

It IS time for conservatives to make their voice known. If a failed 3rd party run sends that message to McCain and those like him, so be it. Like MANY conservatives, I am on the verge of denying McCain for once and for all.
Patriotic Liberal writes: Wednesday, March, 12, 2008 1:51 PM
Sorry, bub..
Lobbyists are an issue. After the K Street Project and McCain's own claims about the pernicious influence of lobbyists, it is a legit avenue of inquiry.

This generation of Republicans have blurred the lines between public and private interests--so it is understandable that Hugh can't see what the big deal is. 'Hey. If a guy wants to make a buck off his political connections, what's the big deal? Lord knows he doesn't make any money in public service.'

Most Americans see this hopping back and forth as a signal of corruption and the selling of America. That boomer conservatives think it's no big deal speaks to them more than anything else.
GOPsaver writes: Wednesday, March, 12, 2008 2:03 PM
We have
McCain lobbyists, Then we have Hillary and her lobbyists from China and heavy socialism, Obama and his lobbyists from whacko Islam.

All three take Mexico over America.

What a mess. Write in Duncan Hunter and get a good nights sleep.

All three of the above are really bad for America.
LittleL1954 writes: Wednesday, March, 12, 2008 2:15 PM
Hotrod: Writing in Hunter is exactly
what I have been planning since McCain took led Super Tuesday. I am a delegate to our Republican Convention and plan to vote him there, guess I wont be going to Minn this election cycle, but I will not support McCain.

Others can say not voting McCain gives us Hill-Oman but that is the choice the rpimary process have given us. I voted Carter in 76 because of the Blue Blood dealings for Ford. The difference today is I will not vote for a Dem.

I would remind those who say Perot gave us Clinton. Actually Bush "read my lips" gave us Clinton then Blue Blood choice Dole gave us Clinton again. Seems the Republican Country Club Blue Bloods dislike Conservatives more than Democrats, otherwise we would not keep getting these left leaning Republican choices.

Pasadena Phil writes: Wednesday, March, 12, 2008 2:29 PM
The EADS issue
No one, including Hugh, knows what happened. Everyone is forming judgments based on whether or not they support McCain. Whether McCain was "making the process fair" or doing the bidding for EADS lobbyist who are curiously prominent consultants on his campaign (coincidence I'm sure), it just smells and is consistent with McCain's history of being untrustworthy to anyone but Democrats and special interests. It's going to seem like an eternity to November for the GOP. For conservatives, we've already made up our minds and are planning on enjoying reminding the "GOP Uber Alles" crowd how intellectually corrupt and illogical they are. Telling us to shut up because you can't rationalize your positions is just increasing the fun level for us. Facts are stubborn things. Presidential elections are becoming "Y2K"-type panic scares.

May God Bless You for seeing the light.

I love Conservatism and I have NO doubt Capitalism IS the best path to prosperity.

I could fix the illegal alien issue with a single page Law that would not cost the Tax Payers the expence of a fence or the cost of deportation.

How come I can do it and all of these mental giants in D.C. can not?

If millions write in Duncan Hunter the RNC might get a clue.

hotrod and little1954
careful about write-ins, they aren't even counted in many places. I was an early and vocal supporter of Hunter, but I will be voting for one of the names that is on the ballot that are other than R or D, Libertarian most likely. I want the RNC to be able to see where their votes went. A write in will go unnoticed.

I keep hoping Hunter will launch an independent run, hey, I can dream, can't I?

I'm thinking you are right about going 3rd party. The only way the GOP will REALLY get the message is if conservatives choose another party. If the ultimate result is a GOP that is re-focused on conservative principles and solutions, then it will NOT be a wasted vote. Plus, McCain will finally be out of the picture for good.
Virginia Patriot writes: Wednesday, March, 12, 2008 3:19 PM

So far McCain has shown no inclination to listen to, let alone adjust to, conservatives. If he's still saying "secure the border first", which we know means amnesty next, in November, he won't be getting my vote.

No Enforcement/No Votes!
GOPsaver writes: Wednesday, March, 12, 2008 4:31 PM
Just look
at how many so-called Republicans are willing to drink the McCain cool-aid just because he is not one of the other guys.

I swallowed Hard and voted for Bob Dole. But Bob Dole never said we should have a set of Laws for Illegal Aliens that are far better then the set of Laws we have for our own Tax Paying Citizens.

I want some Amnesty too! I will bet every one in our prison system wants some shamnesty deal also.

I will not get mine and those in our prisons and court system will not get thiers. The Citizens of Mexico in America breaking our Laws wholesale everyday will get amnesty from Obama, Hillary, and McCain.

I would not expect anything more of socialist (d) in America. Republicans I hold to a higher standard.
S/A86 writes: Wednesday, March, 12, 2008 6:15 PM
It is not drinking Kool-Aid
so much as it is Smelling the Coffee.

All rhetoric aside, how is the conservative cause aided by a dimocrat victory?

Being set upon by a formerly friendly media, as well as the stern approbation of Conservatives in the GOP will have an effect on John McCain. Even assuming it does not, McCain at his very worst is better, byt far, than either Broom Pilot Rod'em or Babakazama.
