Over at the Politico, John Harris and Jim Vandehei have a fascinating piece that lays out all the reasons the Clintons believe Barack can't win the general election. And the Clintons may well be right (although it's the proposition that Hillary Clinton is staying in the race merely in the interests of protecting the party from certain defeat really doesn't pass the laugh test).
The problem for the Democrats who agree with them is: What, exactly, are they supposed to do about it? Deny Barack the nomination? Good luck with that one. Fact is, Dems may have a problem either way. Too many Dems have concentrated only on his good press and the "excitement" surrounding him, while overlooking or ignoring potential problems (enabled in large part by an adoring press corps). They may end up paying for their "crush" on Obama with a huge case of buyer's remorse.
Of course, if Hillary Clinton were really acting as altruistically as she'd have us believe, and is sincerely convinced her concerns are real and valid, she'd go out and make these arguments straight on to voting Democrats, wouldn't she, rather than leaking them to reporters?
One final note: There was one part of the piece that raised my eyebrows. The authors discuss Gore and Kerry's experiences as the Democratic nominees in order to compare them to what Barack's would be, and write:
Both men lost control of their public images to the right-wing freak show—that network of operatives and commentators working mostly outside of the mainstream media—and ultimately lost their elections as many voters came to see them as elitist, out-of-touch, phony, and even unpatriotic.
I guess that all the bloggers -- including those who raised valid issues, for example, about Kerry's "Christmas in Cambodia" that much of the MSM chose to ignore -- are just part of a "freak show." Wow.

Harris and Vandehei are each more than happy to participate in the "right wing freak show" such as making several weekly appearances on Hugh's show, if it provides good advertising for their new Politico blog.
Harris and Vandehei need to take a course on Econ 101. The truth is, if the MSM would do the work exposing the Democratic nominee, then there wouldn't be a m-a-r-k-e-t for the "right wing freak show."
By definition, the "right wing freak show" shines the light on issues/position/quotes of the Democratic nominee which the MSM refuse to cover, due to their fierce partisanship. |

You are wrong about 'No one cares what you here at TH think either.' We cre very much, and is the reason why Clinton is detested here. Communism is not good for any country, let alone this one. The world is fraught with examples of Marxism failing badly. This is the reason this country will never make her president. |

Illegal aliens are not immigrants. Immigrants seek our permission first by applying for a visa. They keep their documents in order and comply with our laws. Illegal aliens do not. They sneak across the border and acquire fraudulent I.D. The open borders crowd know that most Americans are predisposed to favor legal immigration. By purposely confusing illegal aliens with(legal)immigrants (really the only kind), the left and the media hope to marginalize those of us who are speaking out against amnesty as being xenophobic, nativist, racist, restrictionist, anti-immigrant bigots. I am not any of those. I am an American citizen whose citizenship means something to him. I like immigrants. I know people from all over the world. I am totally opposed to amnesty for illegal aliens, regardless of where they are from. I am for retaining our rule of law and sovereignty. The debate must center on the willful disregard for the laws of this country. Americans have been a welcoming people. We just want people to respect us, our country, our history, our culture, our language and our laws. |

Dang, why can't I write like that? You hit it out of the ball park! |

I can't get over how Obama's supporters try to spin his mistakes. I just watched Daschle on a replay of the Fox Chris Matthews show. Evidently, the way Obama intended his San Fran Fiasco remarks--hence, the way we're supposed to understand these remarks--is that it's the Republicans who are to blame for using issues about guns, religion, immigration (Obama didn't limit it to illegal immigration), and antipathy for unfamiliar people as wedges to divide Midwestern rubes from the rest of the country.
What the heck is he talking about? I don't hear anything about the Republicans in Obama's remarks. How dare clowns like Daschle try to revise Obama's remarks to say something they don't say. First and last, Obama provided a window into his soul. Send this loser packing.
Shame on the Democrats for not vetting this guy before letting him progress so far. |

I agree. The Old Stream Media could double their customers by simply doing their job fairly and accurately without an agenda and without working from templates. The fact that they refuse to do so is further evidence of the notion that liberalism is a mental illness. |

There's a startling take (admission?) here by Harris and Vandehei: Conservative pundits (who work outside of the mainstream) can change the outcome of national elections. Sweet.

Hector Berlioz,
When there's hot political news, Hugh has the guys from Politico on multiple times in a week.
In the past couple months, there's been a lull because the GOP nomination has already been settled and there's been a 'hiatus' since the big primaries of Jan, Feb & early March.
However, when the general election campaign heats up, the guys from Politico will be on Hugh's show regularly. |

Yep, that's EXACTLY what the left wants - less scrutiny.
Move on, there's nothing to see here. Ignore the man behind the curtain.
