A CAN’T MISS FORMULA FOR VICTORY

The recent GOP triumphs in gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey provide a resounding rebuttal to those who claim Republicans can win simply by mobilizing their conservative base. In New Jersey, self-described conservatives amounted to just 30 percent of the electorate and in Virginia only 39 percent. Obviously, if the two candidates appealed solely to those who considered themselves conservative, they would have lost in twin landslides. Instead, they reached out to self-identified moderates—the biggest group in both states. Chris Christie, newly elected Republican governor of New Jersey got 48 percent of the moderate vote, and Bob McDonnell, the big winner in Virginia, got 46 percent of the mod squad. When Republican candidates rally their fellow conservatives, and supplement those votes by at least splitting those who see themselves as moderate, it’s a can’t-miss formula for victory.

Most people are conservative, they just need to be reminded (thanks socialists, you're reminding voters better than the statists in the GOP ever could). The one thing that unites all conservatives is fiscal responsibility.
If you spend more than you take in, you are not a conservative. If you put people on the public dole, you are not a conservative.
Now is not the time for compromise. We must fight for our economic well-being.
The winning strategy for 2010: debt, deficits, unemployment, bureaucracy. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Folks ARE waking up. They are telling the pollsters what they DON'T want to hear. That is they are looking at the RECORDS of candidates and checking into their BACKGROUNDS regardless of party.
I am NOT a "party man". I will vote for ANYONE who reflects my views of ANY party. I know Zell Miller was a Dem but you could RESPECT him. That's why they drummed him out of the party. It's only the LEFT that demands 100% ideological purity. Just watch Nazi Psychosi pull the rug from under the blue dogs next year even if they vote FOR the Health Scare Scam.

The Republican Party's job is to elect people. My job is to find representatives who will fight for my principles. If a candidate is a "go along to get along" representative, it is not in my best interest to support him.
The Republican elite told the conservatives to beat it. I have beat it. |

Who argues that the GOP can win with only the conservative base? Who? Please name them. I've never heard this. This sounds like a strawman argument being put forth by a 'moderate' or a RINO to try to justify McCainism big tent nonsense. McDonnell ran a positive campaign based on conservative principles and ideas a la Ronald Reagan. Like RR, it attracted independent voters, 'moderates', and probably not a few Dems. Think of RR, his principles and his style like Field of Dreams. If you mimic RR, they will come (indies, moderates and Reagan Dems).
Michael, you are good person, but facts are facts. RR conservatism is the path to victory. |

The next round of elections will be determined not by how well someone speaks or how much money is spent or what party they claim to identify with. it will be determined by educated, involved citizens who will vet those who run; ask the important questions; spread the word to others to get involved and inform the candidates they will be held accountable for every aspect of their duties.

Medved, as usual, has misdiagnosed what happened.
Nobody in either election was voting FOR a candidate, they were voting against the other candidate. Both states were in trouble economically and voted to "throw the rascals out".
What message did Christie have? "I am not corrupt like Corzine".
What message did McDonnell have? "I am not Deeds".
Neither election was substantive in any way and neither demonstrated anything beyond voters being disgusted with those in office.
How principled can any election be when the big news was that one candidate called the other "fat".
Now there is real leadership. |

And we may let you stay. If you want to go modify the Dems that would be terrific as well. |

This from the guy went very early for the "can't miss formula" of John McCain. Get over it Michael, were not going down your road again. If you want to keep losing, keep up your losing strategy. We learned our lesson in Bush's second term and we are not going to forget it. |

have suddenly realized that nicey-nicey big hearted help-those-poor-benighted policies of the Marxist Dumbocrat party are bankrutping us and leaving the squishies dangerously exposed to economic destruction and loss of security. They are mugged liberals, finally seeing the light. |

Medved is still pushing his "move to the middle" pitch. He, like many in the Republican Party callously referred to as RINOs just don't get it. It isn't that the middle is voting Republican because the GOP is pushing a moderate message, they are demonstrating with their votes that they do not want what the liberals are pushing.
If the GOP goes for the middle, they will lose the passion that has formed in the majority. Forget this mushy middle stuff Medved, it is a sure loser. |
|
The solution is convincing the squishy middle that the fruits of conservatism, tho not perfect, are good. The fruits of progressivism are currenty being played out on the big screen starring Barry, Harry and Nancy.
Progressivism look oh-so-good on paper, but promise one scary ending. |
