It's the Press' Fault!
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 10:29 PM
Shame on the press -- at least to hear Barack Obama tell it.  Judging from his slightly petulant statement announcing his departure from Trinity UCC, the break isn't because of the dubious views of those who have been occupying its pulpit, both as long-serving pastors and guests.  The substance of what's issued from the church isn't an issue for Barack.  Rather, all the press' fault, for two reasons:

(1) The Press' Penchant for Unjust Imputations:

Every time something is said in the church by anyone associated with Trinity, including guest pastors, the remarks will be imputed to me even if they totally conflict with my long-held views, statements and principles.

Well, if the remarks are of the tenor of those so famously discharged by Jeremiah Wright, that's probably true.  Nor is it unfair, given that Wright (described by Barack as a spiritual mentor and something akin to a family member) spewed racial hatred for twenty years from the pulpit unrebuked (or if we are to believe Obama, unnoticed) by him.

What's more, it's difficult to understand why Barack feels so aggrieved by such imputations -- given John McCain has been blasted (to the point where he'd have to make statements rejecting them) simply for accepting the endorsement of pastors who are as controversial as Wright, but on the other side of the aisle.  And those are men McCain barely knows, and whose views obviously "totally conflict with [McCain's] long-held views, statements and princples" -- and not people McCain embraced as family for two decades.

In fact, if one were to make comparisons, imagine the uproar if McCain still found a way to commend his controversial pastoral endorsers the way Barack managed to compliment both Wright and Father Pfleger in passing.  He noted that he "continue[s] to admire the work Reverend Wright has done in building up the church"; as for Father Pfleger, according to Barack, he's "someone I knew, who [sic] I consider a friend, who has done tremendous work in the city of Chicago."

(2) The Press' Bad Behavior

Barack's condemnation of the press' behavior seemed more genuinely heated than any criticism he's offered of the pastors.  He essentially charged the press with forcing him to leave Trinity for the sake of its other parishioners:

We've had news organizations harassing members at their homes and their workplaces, we've had reporters grabbing church bulletins and calling up the sick and the shut-in in an attempt to get news about the church, we've had news organizations scrutining Reverend Moss' sermons and attempting to try to make political hay out of even the most innocuous or innocent remarks by him.

For someone who's received such unbelievably favorable press coverage, he's remarkably willing to turn on the MSM, isn't he?  Nobody in the media had better cherish any hopes that a President Obama will embrace the press a la JFK.   In fact, as I noted here back in February, Barack is perfectly capable of stiff-arming the group of people who will have been more responsible than anyone for getting him to The White House.

Here's Exhibit A.

Ummm
.... I think we have gotten the Obama preacher/church issue. Can we move on to more grave and serious issues? The main blog here is "OBAMA'S PREACHER/CHURCH 24/7" !

Issues like:
A) America will be bankrupt soon (it is already, but it will take some time to actually crumble).

B) Multinational Corps., and private cabals own our country. And most of the world and its resources.

C) The MASSIVE corruption in both parties, and their purchase by Elite/special interests - mostly Corps. - and the Corps now WRITE the legislation. THe K Street $$$$$$$ is now flowing to the Dems.... so THEIR Corp interests will get "watered" for awhile.

A shout out and Kudos to Pasadena Phil for broaching these subjects.

There is, just in my view, waaaaaaaaay too much focus on the smaller issues (in this blog page- just look @ the title posts)...while the HUGE issues are putting us as citizens away.

Kimberly Plays Race Card
Obama and that church and his supporters are freaking people out. Don't call this racism. Wright and Pfleger are a disgrace.

How can Obama argue that what Wright and Pfleger have said run contrary to his (and I wrote it down) "longheld views, statements, and principles." What Obama says is certainly important, but what he's done is equally important. And sat in that radical church for 20 years. Why is he even in the race? If McCain had been sitting in some separatist white church that long, he'd have out of the race a year ago.

It's time to start saying what too many suspect. Obama is too radical and he's simply un-American. He's not qualified and he continually proves that he's not. He couldn't even bring himself to call this church for what it is--a bunch of racists themselves.

Now, after Pfleger's performance, we need to find out about the earmarks that Obama has steered to Pfleger's programs. Granting his church tax-exempt status is one thing; give Pfleger tax money is an outrage. And let's understand that Obama's closest advisor (David Axelrod) is tied at the hip with Pfleger too.

The radical nature of Obama's associates and advisors is endless.

Are we blaming the press now?
Or is it a fact that Obama just did not embrace that black liberation theology after all. Faith that can be shaken by the pressures of politics is not a very strong faith. Weak faith--weak candidate--weak president.

Sam you can just ignore Kimberly
We are all so familiar with her drive by leftist spewtum. Its ridiculous and usually off topic. But loved your points about Pfleger.

tick tock tick tock......
the clock is getting so loud that O'bomber will have to stop throwing people under the bus, otherwise there won't be any demographic left to vote for him so that he wins at least 10 states. The blacks who have remained faithful and excused Wright and Trinity Church should feel VERY betrayed by now.

Obama is a negro without any allegience to anyone, community or country. His only allegience is to get elected so that he can disarm our military and strengthen our enemies like Iran by allowing them to continue developing nuclear programs.

What are the americans thinking? tick tock tick tock....disarming america sounds like a Hamas preferred candidate plan. Wait, hamas already endorsed obama - my bad, it's official. Obama is the hamas preferred candidate complete with campaign phone banks in Gaza. SERIOUSLY!

Am looking at the man in the mirror....
am hoping that he'll change his ways. Something about Obama reminds me of Michael Jackson. Why? When Michael sang 'i want to love you, TYT pretty young thing, I want to love you TLC tender love and care and i'll take you there".

Then Michael mimicks how the pretty young thing responds.......
"say no no no, no no no no, no no no, no no no....and I'll take you there...."

This song was a great hit, until Michael was accused of molesting children. Then the song took on a whole new meaning.

Palestinians for Obama who are operating from a phone bank in Gaza bring a whole new meaning to concerns about 'shipping jobs abroad' and 'public enemy' and 'praying for the peace of jerusalem' and most importantly.....Obama's plan to disarm the USA military.

This is equivalent to a suicide bomber in the whitehouse......go figure!
Sarah writes: Sunday, June, 01, 2008 4:04 AM
Nvwoti, here are big issues......
Obama wants to disarm our military and destroy our nuclear capability at a time when Al Qaeda, according to Osama, is plotting an even bigger attack in USA soil. Does Obama know Osama is plotting to kill us? What commander in chief disarms his troops and destroys their nuclear capability when an enemy is clearly stating they are planning a BIG attack?

The kind who is inexperienced and unqualified to be commander in chief i.e. Obama.

What presidential candidate removes his name from the Michigan ballot then asks superdelegates to lower the standard to accomodate his stupidity? Obama.

These are issues of BAD JUDGEMENT. Obama's BAD RELIGION WHICH LEADS TO BAD JUDGEMENT.......

Obama Had it easy
from the press until recently, Then when the press gets on him, he starts to fold, glad to see his true nature. He will rape this country with his leftwing liberal ideas, all he will do is weaken our country by selling us out to our enemies.
Sarah writes: Sunday, June, 01, 2008 5:40 AM
Stepping it up!
Obama's character is a lot like that of his parents. His father abandoned him as a kid and did not face up to his responsibilities as a father or friend to his kid. His mother seems to be attracted to men who were 'on the go' and she appears to have been a very 'busy body'. Today, by throwing his church under the bus, Obama confirmed that an apple does not fall far from it's tree. He really is the product of his irresponsible african father and 'busy body' mother. Even mobsters, and gangsters have a code not to be a sell out!

Do you think world leaders will find this man credible? First he disavows his muslim roots, now he has disavowed his church community. He is an apostate and a backslider or backsliden nutcase.
Perceptor II writes: Sunday, June, 01, 2008 8:01 AM
It's an old NBA coaches' trick
Phil Jackson would do this quite a bit when he was with the Chicago Bulls: after a game which his team lost, he would subtly imply that the officiating was just a little one-sided against him. The fact that the Bulls had won multiple championships, had the biggest sports star on the planet, and thus probably were already receiving a little favorable officiating didn't seem to matter. And it worked. In the next few games the officiating would shift a bit toward favoring the Bulls a little more, as the refs would be afraid enough of favoring the Bulls' opponents and seeming unfair that they'd overcompensate.

Barack Obama is doing the same thing here. It has already been scientifically proven that he receives the most favorable press coverage of any presidential candidate. It doesn't matter. He'll get into the heads of reporters, who'll start wondering if they've been hard on poor Barack, and they'll overcompensate.

I agree with you on one level Nvwoti
but these constant barrages bestowed upon Obama are relevant if only to prove the integrity or lack there of he possesses. If this country is going to address those difficult and important problems you have listed,it will have to start from the top with a strong mandate by a President with integrity. These seemingly endless articles illustrate how unqualified Obama is.
