With One Month To Go: Why McCain Will Close and Win
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 8:42 PM
Because the country cannot afford the greatest gamble in its modern history at this moment in time.

A confrontation with Iran looms and instability in Pakistan grows.  The Islamist threat has been beaten back in Iraq, but continues to nurse its fanatical hatreds in many other places, from Waziristan to London. Israel is ringed not with an enemy that wants a state but by two enemies that want Israel to be destroyed.

The world's financial system is teetering, and the estrangement between the American people and their government has never been this deep in modern times.

The cost of energy has soared and will continue to climb.  The entitlement trap has only grown worse in the three years since George Bush asked the Democrats to work with him on Social Security and they said no.  The corrupt, self-dealing culture of the Beltway has poisoned the decision-making of many bureaucracies and in ways only the burdened know, and the credibility of the big media is shattered even as their audiences shrink and many of their news rooms come close to shuttering.

So, despite the rapture of college students and the registration of the homeless in Ohio, the common sense of Americans will override curiosity about Barack Obama and infatuation with his celebrity, and trust John McCain to pilot the country for the next four years.

Obama is a wholly untested Illinois state senator with less than 200 actual days on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

Obama has never run anything or faced any significant political crisis in his life requiring the expert exercise of wisdom and judgment, much less this perfect storm of crises.

Obama's rise has been because of machine politics and hard-left coalitions, and his past is checkered with the most radical and the most corrupt sort of characters imaginable  --Ayers, Rezko and Wright to name just the big three.

His party is led by hard-left partisans in the House and Senate, and the "grassroots" manning his campaign and ready to demand their patronage jobs are of the Michael Moore-Daily Kos variety.  There is hardly anything left of the old Democratic Party.  It isn't about a New Deal or a Fair Deal or a New Frontier.  It is about radical change, and creepy children singing praises to their leader.  It is about a thorough-going contempt of ordinary Americans best expressed in Obama's own description of the bitter God-and-gun clinging small town and rural voters of Pennsylvania.

Obama would be a huge risk in even placid times of peace, full employment, and robust growth, a radical break with America's political traditions even as measured against the McGovern candidacy of 1972.

In a time of war and precarious economic uncetainty, it would be near suicidal to turn the world's most important job over to him.

The hard left's seven year rage against George Bush has disfigured the politics of the country, but it hasn't infected the large center or demoralized the principled right.  Three quarters of the country know the sort of enemy we face around the globe and sense as well the seriousness of the economic risk that faces us and which must be met and managed from maturity and a belief in growth and capitalism's essential genius.  The country has never embraced class warfare, and knows that a lurch to the left now would cripple the vast engine of productivity that is the key to a steady recovery of confidence.

We do not desire to become Europe.  We do not fear our neighbors or hate our political opponents or mock religion.  Large portions of Obama's most dedicated supporters do.  The MoveOn.org of "General Betrayus" and the Al Franken wing of the Democrats have tried without success to moderate their rhetoric, and the issue of Michelle Obama's lack of pride in the country have been erased from the fall campaign, but as the decision grows close, mist voters will be turning over all of these things in their head, and assessing the very different futures in front of the country.

This is the choice facing the country as absentees begin to be mailed next week, and it is the seriousness of the moment and the radical nature of the Obama candidacy that favors the tried and tested McCain and his populist, optimistic running mate.

America is a great and good nation, and it will not turn itself over to a party in the grip of its hardest left cadres, its most corrupt machine and its least experienced nominee ever.

Especially not when it has a man of enormous courage and proven devotion and sacrifice at the ready to lead through difficult times.

THE MAC
Fellow McCain supporters: DO NOT listen to what these polls say- statistically they are very very skewed. In late oct in the 1980 election, the "polls" showed Carter beating Reagan!!!

JM is the only logical candidate with experience in these very tricky times. He is very moderate and we can't have a radical on either side taking the wheel. Let's not forget about the "silent majority"...they decide these elections.

We still have to mobalize and help by contributing and phonebanking (which you can do from home)-- johnmccain.com. If there is one thing I love about the Mac, you can NEVER EVER count him out. For those plebian claims about his health- he survived 5 1/2 years as a POW...enough said.

BTW Great article on the Obama "tax-cuts"

Palin was in California Sunday. Was it just fund raising? McCain has run some ads here too. Not sure why except, California demographics have changed..We are over 50% hispanic now. McCain is pro-immigration and Obama's Abortion position may not fly with the Hispanic population which is largely Catholic. If they could target some ads here explaining those positions, it could help. I wonder whether or not he has one more "surprise" for this election. I will pray and hold my breath..

I thought it was Nixon that had all the Mormons. He himself was quaker, but at least two of his cabinet members were Mormon, and I think he inherited a bunch of the Mormon Mafia from Howard Hughes.

But of course right-wingers like to pretend that Nixon never existed.

Personal Responsibility
You good folks here do a great job of telling other people how they should accept the consequences of the choices they make in life. Well now is the time that you people accept the consequences of your unwise political choices.

Now, since you did not make the correct political choices, the country is in such a state that a Barack Obama is even possible. That's right, the consequences of your political actions are going to result in not only a Democratic president, but one that is an African-American as well!

McCain is going to lose because he's not the same guy who ran in 2000.I would vote for him in a heartbeat if he were. Unfortunately he is running as a W clone and most of the nation isn't buying it.And all the code words like "gamble", "risky", "terrorist", Rev. Wright, Ayers, etc... we all know what those are code for and it's not working.

As a registered Independent, my advice to Republicans is to forget the White House, it's gone; you better worry about the Senate.Look at Ga. look at Ky. The consequences of your efforts this cycle is going to lead not only to an African-American POTUS, but he just might have 60 seats in the Senate!

I am so very sorry that you folks are so troubled by Obama, but he is not only what you deserve for 8 years of W, he's what you need. It's not too late to be on the correct side of history and vote Obama. You'll feel better in the end for having done the right thing.

I'd like to thank you folks. While I am not caught up in the cult of personality that is Obama, I am glad that we'll have someone that is smart in the White House. (Btw, why don't you people ever talk about how Obama didn't use AA to get into Harvard?)

Went there - very funny and so right on the money.

4 years is not long, Obama will be a trainwreck just as Carter was, and the GOP will have time to re-think the bigotry that kept the best man out, and time to get back to honest conservative values.

I would love every Mormon in the country to withhold their support to the GOP until it cleans house. No more silent voices. I'm not going to support a party anymore that allows itself to be taken hostage by self-righteous bigots calling themselves "religious leaders" who told my children they need not apply for the presidency. No more votes, no more money, at least not from me.

BTW, bigots, your beloved Reagan thought Mormons were great people, and had a lot of them he trusted in the White House. He also thought our church welfare systen of helping people to help themselves was top notch and the way to go. Today, I'm sure he would be heartsick to learn of the shabby way LDS folks were treated, and the way Romney was incessantly maligned for his faith.

Tomorrow's another day. Let's hope there are principled people willing to say the truth the next time around. And let's not let the Bigot Brigade take the party hostage ever again.

LOVED conference. As always, it is so nice to get the perspective back. What did I learn? Folks like Slimy and Eddie, Laura and Cimmie are just out for their own, and we need not engage them, or comment on them. Also, to prepare, as it will NOT be a pleasant 4 years (no number was given, just to make sure your house in in order).

I do look forward to an obama presidency. It will give us 4 years to regroup and take our party back. It will give talk raido something besides the Palinlovetrain to talk about. It will give Bristol and Levi cover, not to get married, but to give that little one a real life, and give it up to ADULT parents that will love it and take care of it, and then get on with their lives. 4 years is a long time, but it's not a real long time. I also think Michelle has more class in her pinky than Palin has in her whole body. The good news is that we are no longer lone voices in the wilderness. There is a considerable number of CONSERVATIVES who refuse to vote for this ticket. Many women are insulted by this beautyqueen pick, and not a pick of substance.

this one is fun website. See what cranky old ladies say about McCain and his panderpick.

Palin Comparison
I'll leave you all to your right-wing echo chamber of paranoia (excuse the repetition), but before I go, I just want to point out the obvious: Decrying Obama's inexperience doesn't make Sarah Palin more experienced. Calling Obama risky doesn't make McCain less risky. And saying that Democrats don't love their country doesn't make you more patriotic. These things only make you seem that much farther out of touch. And in that respect, you all have the perfect leader in John McCain. Good luck with that.

it can't be that hard
Seriously - being a president can be viewed as being so difficult if a person like Gov. Palin can be seen as being competent to be our leader. All of the "sky is falling" commentary just cement why I'm going to vote for Obama. McCain is just not a bright guy; to think that he'd be in charge of coming up with solutions to said problems is frightening. Like it or not, Obama will win because the majority of voters are and will be on November 4th tired of the crappy job Republicans have done lately. Obama, or Hillary, or my friend Doug who is a plumber, could have won this year going against McCain.
Laurie writes: Monday, October, 06, 2008 10:53 AM
Be VERY VERY AFRAID
Obama is going to fill up the White House with strange brown and BLACK people with funny-sounding names. They are going to storm into your homes and take your guns and turn your children GAY. MOOOOSLIMS are going to pour in through Mexico in droves and kill us all, and make all our women wear those funny hoods. (oh I forgot - the 9/11 guys, they were already here and your jackass president knew it and didn't do S**T about it.) Obama's gonna make everyone in the world, especially the MOOOOSLIMS hate us by starting illegitimate wars all by himself (oops - forgot again. happened already)

They are going to make you accept your social security when you get old and sick, or if your spouse dies. And they're going to make it strong enough to last for your children's children.

They are going to create policy that will enable anyone to obtain health insurance and get health care. Create jobs in a new green economy. Restore the regulations that have protected us so well for 50 years, that were decimated in the last thirty.

But you will still be very very scared, so I understand that when all these great things start happening in our economy, that you just won't participate. Don't buy into Obama's health care plan, even if you can't afford anything else. Don't accept your SS payment. Don't get a new job in the new economy and cash in all your stocks and savings accounts and stick the cash under your mattress, because you certainly don't want to benefit from all that crazy lefty regulation that will keep your investments safer.

Dumasses, the lot of you.

Sarah Palin is in no way, shape, or form qualified to be the President of the United States. Anyone who still thinks so after watching that piece of performance art she tried to pass off as a debate last Thursday seriously needs to have his head examined.

McCain has a very good chance of dying in office, and Palin would be an unmitigated disaster if she were to take over.

Silly article
What a silly article!

McCain may be older than Obama, but has he shown that he's learned amything? Just look at his behavior during the last couple of weeks: The fundamentals of the economy are strong - The economy is cratering - I'm suspending my campaign - I'm showing up at the debate - I voted for the bailout bill - Bush should veto it.

And before this, your 72-year-old candidate, with a history of cancer, who always maintained he would put his country before his campaign, nominated a woman with no practically no experience and who, though despite being a journalism major, can't recall a single newspaper or magazine and who actually thinks that being able to see Alaska gives her foreign policy experience! Her performance at the debate was only judged a "success" because the bar was so low - but most of the spectators think Biden won. And they are insulted that winking and refusing to answer the moderator's questions should be tolerated in a candidate for the office that is to be a heartbeat away from a cancer survivor. In fact, many conservatives have come out against her and her lack of qualification.

These are just a few of McCain's problems. He's a gambler, a thrower of dice, a man who crashes planes. Not the steady hand one wants in the POTUS.

"1. Obama used to work for ACORN, and actually had a real accomplishment there: he badgered banks into giving mortgages to subprime borrowers."

ACORN worked with CRA banks and thrifts, which issued less than 20% of subprime loans and have had a much lower default rate than the big lenders like IndyMac and Countrywide.

I don't believe that Obama actually had anything to do with mortgages while working with ACORN; he worked on voter registration.

"3. Fannie and Freddie caused the financial meltdown."

No one actually believes that. They contributed, but it would be more accurate to say that they were victims of it. They did allow themselves to be victimized.

"4. In the initial bailout package, Obama favored giving $20 billion to ACORN (eventually it was dropped)."

ACORN wasn't mentioned at all in the bill. There was a provision that would have allowed state and local governments to funnel a percentage of the profits from bailouts to a given set of organizations. ACORN could be a member of that set under certain circumstances. Republicans, who don't like the idea of state and local governments being in control of anything, protested the provision.

"In sum: Obama has blood on his hands regarding our $700 billion bailout, whether it's by ideology or by corruption or both."

No more than McCain did, in supporting the original bill and voting for the revised one.

" For the first time, I am tasting real fear for this country."

Drama queen.

How McCain Wins
McCain wins, if the following connections are revealed to the American public quickly (facts are a stubborn thing, so maybe the MSM will have no choice; Fox is the only one doing its job so far):

1. Obama used to work for ACORN, and actually had a real accomplishment there: he badgered banks into giving mortgages to subprime borrowers.
2. In the Senate, Obama quickly got into bed with Fannie and Freddie, taking their money and continuing to embrace social re-engineering.
3. Fannie and Freddie caused the financial meltdown.
4. In the initial bailout package, Obama favored giving $20 billion to ACORN (eventually it was dropped).

In sum: Obama has blood on his hands regarding our $700 billion bailout, whether it's by ideology or by corruption or both.

Another reason to vote McCain-Palin:

If Obama's elected, then appoints two liberal supreme court judges, guess what? We might as well move to Russia. Over there, all branches of government are controlled by one party, and the media parrots the party line (oh, and I forgot to mention the "fairness doctrine"). If Obama is elected, nothing will stop the liberal kamikaze mission. For the first time, I am tasting real fear for this country.

Most of them got interested in politics SOLELY to promote Christian values at the national level. That means opposition to abortion, same-sex marriage, etc.

Obama is 100% pro-choice. To women like Katy, that makes him a monster--he supports the murder of the unborn.

I'm not as doctrinaire on abortion as others on TH. But for them, that's non-negotiable.

Katy writes: "This man is a radical marxist. Take a look at Venezeula or Cuba. You think that cannot happen here? You are wrong. O will go after our personal power of wealth, guns, speech and values and we will have very little left to fight with. Our pocket constitutions will be worthless in the face of a fascist Gov."

How do you know all that?

Who told you all that?

Where did you get all this information from? If you're privy to some secret documents about Obama that reveals all this, I would sure like to see it.

Is Obama a doctrinaire liberal? YES, he is! But does that mean he's going to wreck the country? Not necessarily.

Stop the hysteria already. We've had liberal Presidents in America: FDR, Truman, Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter. We're still here.

Chill out.

"Most folks refuse to post McCain signs or bumper stickers"

It's more likely that they just can't get them. The McCain campaign at the foot-soldier level is a complete disaster, at least here in N. Virginia. There are probably 4-5 Obama campaign offices to every one that McCain has, and the former appear bustling and busy while the latter may well be abandoned.

I've seen similar reports from all over the country. McCain is running a TERRIBLE campaign at the grass-roots. Obama is hitting all the traditional parts of a campaign and also using high-tech. Example: Obama is offering a downloadable iPhone app that processes your contact list to optimize political calls. McCain is probably translating his sound bites into Morse Code for quicker telegraph transmission.

I hope Hugh is right
I really do. But Hugh _did_ predict that Republicans would retain control of Congress (his statement was something to the effect of "the Amercian people aren't dummies - they aren't going to trust the party of surrender with the security of this country"), so I'm not feeling sanguine about his latest prediction.

Hugh, when Pete Coors lost his Senatorial bid, you said he'd lost because "he wouldn't stoop to conquer". I disagreed with that - Pete simply followed the tradition of wealthy Coloradans (Republican and Democrat) who've run for high office with no previous political experience, and it showed in his campaign.

But I _do_ think that seems to be McCain's failing. He won't hit Obama and his fellow Democrats on the very substantive issue of government-mandated bad loans - either because he thinks that will make him look too negative, or because he treasures his "bipartisan" reputation (and the leading actors in the housing bubble are almost all Democrats), or because he doesn't want to offend the few Republicans who assisted the Democrats' "affordable housing" agenda.

If McCain is afraid to tarnish his bipartisan reputation in order to win, then I'd have real doubts about his ability to govern in the face of the screaming Left (who will scream VERY LOUDLY if Obama loses). Unless he changes his tune, I think our only hope is in Sarah Palin, who seems to have been unleashed to attack Obama's record and far-lefty associations.

I was at the neighborhood beauty shop in Ft. Worth yesterday. All seven people, over 50, are lifelong working class Democrats...ALL are voting for McCain/Palin and have NEVER voted Republican in their lives! (4 were Mexican, 3 were white, 1 was a male)

They all said they would have voted for Hillary and can't even consider voting for Obama. They are not fooled by the media and are mad they have such an unqualified candidate. I asked what they didn't like about him. They said, "twenty years listening to, "God damn America" is not someone who can be president of this great country...they haven't forgotten Rev. Wright.

There's only one Obama sign in the neighborhood...there were a lot of Kerry signs back in the day.

Everything works for the Greater Good
In these trying times, it is hard to think anything will ever get better. We are all reexamining our recent past to see what, if anything, could have been done.

I think as things get more difficult, one tends to turn to their core values to get back, or even stay on track.

I have edged closer to my own core values. It helps to remind myself that everything works for the Greater Good. Not...everything good works for the Greater Good, But EVERYTHING.

I know when I hold true to the values in my heart, I will make the right decision. Regardless, I think we should pray for our country, and we should pray for our leaders.

One should never forget that our country is one of the best places to live, and we should show our pride by getting out to vote. There are millions who do not have that privilege, and subsequently don’t share that pride in their corner of the world.

We can make a bigger difference. God bless America.

I haven't read the exchanges with "continuum" yet, but if indeed he or she is an Anglican-Catholic of a paleocon bent, I will extend my welcome to that individual.

"I've known Cicero for years (via cyberspace, that is). Like many Americans, he specializes in church-hopping. Most recently he has vacillated between the Anglican Continuum and Eastern Orthodoxy. Which is he on any given day? Qui sait?"

Which, as I explained numerous times in said cyberspace, might very well mean that I'm more of a truth-seeker, that is, more intellectually honest, than people who've never "converted." Regardless, I'm still Orthodox after all these years, though I highly regard the Anglo-Catholic tradition and the "Continuum."

That being said, let me suggest to you a couple of things: 1) most people here won't be interested in our past exchanges about theological and ecclesiological matters; and 2) *I'm* not interested in rehashing those exchanges with you here. I have to do this on a regular basis, what with new people coming in here from time to time, and all, but I welcome the oppotunity to set the record straight once again:

I'm not a liberal, or a lefty. I'm a conservative. A true one. Unlike you and most of the other purported conservatives who post on this board.

I'm a representative of the conservative past you neo(pseudo)cons have jettisoned for a mess of ideological pottage. I represent the cultural and political tradition you have rejected for the modernism you think you need to help conservatism "evolve." Problem is, your neoconseratism is "evolving" toward roughly the same place liberalism is. And why shouldn't it? Other than its hawkish elements and its occasional tip of the hat to the "religious right", neoconservatism shares many a belief with liberalism. Like liberals, neocons are statists; they merely have some sort of predilection to some watered-down form of economic libertarianism that liberals don't have. Liberals lean more toward socalism. But by and large, liberals and neocons represent, respectively, two sides of the same worthless political coin.

Hope that clears it up for you.

You are alluding to the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), about which some serious misinformation is being spread. The CRA was passed 31 years ago to eliminate the discriminatory practice of redlining by banks and thrift institutions in mortgage and small business loans. It is alleged to be a major cause of the subprime crisis, but those allegations are on shaky ground.

The banks and thrifts to which the CRA applies have in fact made much safer loans than other lending institutions, resulting in much lower default rates. Only about 20% of the risky subprime loans were issued by institutions under the control of the CRA. My own interpretation is that CRA banks and thrifts, being smaller and more local than the big lenders, were more apt to be in close touch with their customer's needs and ability to pay. Think the Bailey Building & Loan in "It's a Wonderful Life."

The big lenders, like Countrywide and IndyMac, are at the root of the subprime crisis. They are not subject to the CRA.

Btw, it's illogical to simultaneously blame Obama for the crisis and claim that he's been completely ineffectual in the Senate.

These same people who the Democrats under the guise of saying they wanted to help (euphemism for ensnare) have done these folks a huge disservice. Many will now attempt to declare bankruptcy which is now much more difficult as a result of legislation Joe Biden pushed because of his ties to MBNA and his son Hunter’s lucrative lobbying deal at the same bank. Their credit will be ruined for the foreseeable future as a result of this debacle. These same people, who maybe couldn’t afford a house but would still be consumers of automobiles, furniture, appliances, and other goods through installment loans, are now going to be prevented from doing so. They will be relegated to saving for a large expenditure or go to predatory lenders (legal loan sharks).

I take no joy in seeing anyone in a difficult financial situation either of their own making or not. However, the people that are involved in a speculative endeavor for which I am less inclined to feel empathy; the others took the bait. My wife and I had a house in Austin, Texas in which we lost 40% in the mid/late 1980s…again as the result of government tinkering.

People say the Democrats have such good intentions. Bull Shlt, I don’t buy it! I think they are sinister people not seeking to enhance people’s personal growth but to create a perpetual underclass, generation after generation. The same people that continually vote for these reprobates are rarely better for it…unless there is some inside deal. The same complaints that these Democrats say they are going to fix never get fixed. Education, accumulation of wealth good jobs, etc. The root of all these problems can be eliminated with education. Who has nearly complete charge of the education apparatchik in the United States and has for decades? Why do the Democrats oppose school vouchers? One has to believe that these people are either as insidious as I suggest or they are continually wrong about everything. In either case why keep reelecting them?

He has to lay out his plans and push them, show the difference between Obama and him. People want to know what’s the difference, the young voters that support Obama are not street wise, most of them are looking for that government freebie, which Obama promises, and if he is elected and doesn't deliver then his 2nd term will die, if he leads the country like Jimmy Carter then it will be back to the Republicans.

Cause of $700bn bailout: Obama et. al.
Let's be clear, the cause was liberal social engineering, not "unbridled capitalism", and Barack Obama was smack dab in the middle of it. To wit:
1. As a community organizer, he worked for ACORN to force banks to make risky loans to low income people. Funny how we never heard that part of the story until now.
2. In Congress, he was the 2nd biggest recipient of Fannie/Freddie contributions.
3. In Congress, he also blocked (or refused to vote on) legislation (pushed by McCain) to rein in Fannie and Freddie.
4. As the Democratic nominee, he had Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson help/advise his campaign (former corrupt Freddie/Fannie CEO's)
5. During the $700bn bailout saga, he supported adding $20 billion in assistance to ACORN (it was eventually dropped from the bill).

Folks, we should all be pissed off at what has happened, and we should all want change. But electing Barack Obama is not the right answer. He has not brought change to Washington, and he will not bring change to Washington, because he cannot bring change to Washington, because he is a typical politician. He has been part of the problem, not part of the solution.

On top of all of this, he wants to raise taxes and spending. If we throw a tax-and-spend liberal agenda on top of the wreckage of previous liberal policies, we'll end up in a depression.

Don't vote for Obama just because you don't like George Bush. Please take a look at the situation we're in, and ask who is more likely to reform Washington.

I don't know what to tell you, we could go on and on. It's obvious the Obama formula is "McCain = Bush." As a recent example, yet another Obama ad uses the line: "Guess that’s why they say: John McCain – McSame as Bush!"

Let me enumerate a few differences between McCain and Bush:
- spending
- earmarks
- a record of bipartisanship
- a record of pissing off the Republican establishment and the right wing of the party
- a record of ethics reform
- the prosecution of the Iraq war
- their take on Putin
- a desire to be less unilateral
- global warming
- torture
- Guantanomo Bay
- 9/11 commission (resisted by Bush)
- related: McCain is less stubborn
- VP attributes (insider vs. outsider)
- real military experience
- ANWR drilling
- handling of "no child left behind"
- a desire to fire Christopher Cox
- pronunciation of "nuclear"

Time for bed.

I haven't seen the campaign do that. I have seen them make the point that McCain will continue many of Bush's policies, and I do think there's a real danger of that. McCain would have little choice but to do that, as he'd be boxed in by a Democratic Congress and the need to stay on the good side of a far-right constituency that believes in them. After all, that die-hard 20% that still supports Bush will be 40% of McCain's constituency.

Making the point that McCain has voted with Bush 95% of the time is not the same as claiming they are the same as each other.

Obama, on the other hand, will have the freedom and the mandate to discard as many of Bush's more odious policies, executive orders, appointments, etc. as possible, as fast as possible. And he'll have the active cooperation of Congress.

We want change, and McCain isn't enough of it.

NeoCon, Hallelujah!

It’s time to “throw the bums out” in this election and expose the culprits behind our $700 billion taxpayer bailout. The “bums” are Obama and the Democrats with their Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac connections, as Cal Thomas explained well in his September 27 piece, "Blame Democrats for Financial Crisis"
http://www.middletownjournal.com/o/content/oh/story/opinio ns/editorial/2008/09/27/swg092708thomas.html

McCain and the Republicans tried to stop the disaster through stricter Fannie/Freddie oversight; Dems blocked them, and Obama did nothing (just check on YouTube for CSPAN footage). No wonder: Obama has been the top recipient of Fannie/Freddie campaign contributions, behind only Democrat Chris Dodd (and just ahead of Democrat John Kerry). Some of Obama’s top advisors include former Fannie/Freddie CEO’s, who resigned under clouds of suspicion.

If Barack Obama wins the presidency, and Democrats retain control of Congress, then we will have great cause for concern, if not downright anger: the exact people responsible for the $700 billion bailout will be running both the executive and legislative branches, spending the $700 billion we are giving them and no doubt avoiding any real investigation or accountability. This is an outcome American cannot afford.

The only way to expose what truly happened and prevent a recurrence is to vote Republican this election.

"John McCain = George Bush."

I've never suggested or argued that, nor do I believe it has any truth. They're very different people; Bush is remarkably oblivious, incurious, and self-centered, while McCain is brighter and more aware of the world around him. I don't really think that McCain would make a bad president to the same degree that Bush has, especially with heavy Democratic majorities in Congress.

What I do fear is the possibility of Palin succeeding to the Presidency. She is much more like Bush than McCain is and would, I believe, actually endanger the survival of the nation. As a secondary effect, McCain loses a lot of credit for picking her; he put his election ahead of the country.

"Obama's father was from Kenya but he was mostly of arabic descent. Someone broke his linage down and it seemed to be as good a break down as any and it seems like Obama has about 12.5% african blood."

Dude, look at the picture I linked to. And look at the other one I link to at the end. The question is, who are you going to believe "someone", or your own lying eyes. But more than that, ask yourself who the "someone" is who broke it down and figured out that Obama is exactly:

"Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother’s side. He is 43.75% Arabic, and 6.25% African Negro from his father’s side.”

Amazing how they arrived at such accurate numbers. This is a smear - like him being a muslim, and educated at a madrassah and etc. etc. etc...

Look, he's friendly with a terrorist, bought his house from a crook, has no experience, and a wife who seems to be something of a shrew. Isn't that enougn? Do we really have to deny him being black and make him the only ethnicity that gives him even less of a chance of winning? Does it have to go *that* far?

This isn't directed at you, but at people like Cotton who are willing to believe literally anything about Obama. Anything. This stuff and Bush being behind 9/11 are on the same par, and believed for the same reasons.

Munck, you are incoherent and evasive, yet somehow maintain a high opinion of yourself.

Obama's entire campaign is built on a lie -- that John McCain = George Bush. People aren't stupid, although you appear to be. The only reason Obama's ahead in the polls is that the MSM has piled on to perpetuate the lie -- that John McCain = George Bush. Can you really look at yourself in the mirror and believe that? You should be ashamed of yourself for backing an empty suit full of hot air, a classic insider greaseball politician. I don't know what you seek, but it's certainly not the truth.

"Too Good to Pass Up"

Cottoneyed's rant is a practically verbatim quote from Rush Limbaugh; he just doesn't bother to mention that. You can tell, though, that it's not his writing. Most of his many extraneous quote-marks and commas are missing. Cottoneyed did change Limbaugh's original text by substituting "Obambi" and an extra comma does creep in there.

Where to start? First, it's just Wikipedia, but it makes sense: "African Americans.... In the United States, the term is generally used for Americans with at least partial Sub-Saharan African ancestry." Obama's dad was from Kenya, a Sub-Saharan African country. So, what is Obama if not African-American? Is there some rule I missed that says your distant ancestor had to be brought across the Middle Passage in chains for you to be African-American?

Second, Kenya is in east Africa. Obama's dad comes from Kenya. He was not an Arab. He and the entire Obama clan are part of the Luo tribe, the third largest tribe in Kenya, making up about 12% of the population. Arabs make up less than one percent of the population of Kenya. A link following this post shows a picture of Barack Sr. I know, there are black Arabs, but that man just does not look like he has any Arabic blood in him. Do you really believe he's half Arab just because you heard it on Rush Limbaugh?

What's With Hewitt's Flip-Flop?
When [McCain] wandered through answer after answer it gradually dawned that he is indeed way past his prime, a Bob Dole without the energy. Sure, he tramps from event to event, but at 71 he is not the same maverick he was at 63 when the McCain phenomenon swept New Hampshire and Michigan before running into conservative reality in South Carolina. Even the McCain enthusiasts watch this aging warrior and know that he could no more win in the fall than Dole could in ‘96. Politics is not exclusively a young man’s game, but it is most definitely not an old man’s game either.

A GOP vote for McCain is a vote for a shattered base and a desultory campaign in the fall. It is a vote for lecture after lecture on global warming, campaign finance reform, and the bridge to nowhere. It is a vote for an old warrior way past his prime and the prospect of three debates against Barack Obama in which the age and energy gap goes unremarked upon while devastatingly obvious.

Hugh's Rose Colored Glasses--again!
Hugh also thought that the democrats wouldn't sweep the senate in 2006--clearly he was DEAD wrong.

This is the same mentality George Bush Senior had in 1992. When it looked like he was going to lose his words were "People are going to vote for a draft dodger". Well, clearly he was wrong and people are saying the same about Big O. Well, unfortunately, its the same nearly 20 years later, McCain believes that he wouldn't lose as nobody would vote for someone with close ties to terrorists. Well, sadly the U.S. doesn't seem to care about that, its more selfishness and thinking merely about the economy.

Well guess what, if we have another 9/11, believe me the last thing on your mind will be your 401K...

NO, school girl,
i don't, that's your domain. You leftists, you can only govern by decree and you can only debate, by proclaiming your superiority.

Also, self righteous, I've been meaning to ask, what is it with you leftists, you don't like strong women, especially, strong white women. Look at obambi, for instance, he gave the finger to Hillary, right in public, and he has total disdain for her, he called his white grandmother, "a typical white person", and now, our Sarah. He sent all his leftists goons up to Alaska, in an effort to uncover and find any dirt on the strong white women! I think he's got some hang ups on this white mother thing. He did say in one of those books, he wrote, that he wished that he could remove all the white blood he has! I think he's scared to death of strong white women and i think you are, too. Your actions, display, a kind of a low grade, misogyny.

Also, how come obambi is called African-American? He has not one ounce of African-American, blood! He's half Arab, half white, where's the African-American? Obambi, is a walking, talking, contradiction. Nothing is as it appears with this guy, nothing!
