The Problem With Government Control . . .
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 9:58 AM
One of the problems with big government is that politics creeps into everything.

Today's example?

Counties that supported Obama last year have reaped twice as much money per person from the administration's $787 billion economic stimulus package as those that voted for his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain.

Oh, and when do we finally get to put "stimulus" in scare quotes to indicate that the term is being used ironically, given that all this money has really been an Obama-supporter-payoff scheme, rather than a successful economic stimulant?

"Counties that supported Obama last year have reaped twice as much money per person from the administration's $787 billion economic stimulus package as those that voted for his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain."

The stimulus bill is passed by Congress. There are more Democrats than Congress than Republicans, and the Republicans don't play nice in the sandbox. So more money is going to Democratic districts. That's how it worked in 1790, that's how it works today.

Sounds Fair To Me
and the Republicans don't play nice in the sandbox. So much for being the president of the United States, Obama is just the president of the blue states and blue counties.

Punishment Raff ?
Oh we get punished for voting the way we believe, the way we have a right to. We get punished, you better be nice Raff because we won't forget all of this BS,and when we are back in power we won't be nice to your kind anymore.

Oh how short your memory is Carol. Do you remember what those contentious states looked like on an electoral map? All red with a couple of pockets of blue which represented the large urban areas Obama handily won.

So, you think small rural counties should receive the same funding as large urban counties? And you wonder why you are in the extreme minority.

The Government is out of control
period. Republicans and Democrats alike are joinging forces to bring it together into one great big ball of power hungry, elitists who want total control over the populace. They are spitting on the Bill of Rights and they're shredding the Constitution; The Declaration of Independance means squat to them; WHY???? BECAUSE WE COWARDS WHO HAVE LOST OUR VOICES ARE ALLOWING THEM TO DO IT, THAT'S WHY! They and we, have forgotten that they represent US, We The People! They are not elected to 'control' us, but to 'serve' us, so let's hold them to that or kick the sorry SOB's out before we lose our souls to the evil grasp of complete Communist rule.

It would be nice to think that when the Rebups are back in control they will treat the dems as they have been treated but I doubt that will happen. I do believe that in 2010 these half wits are in real trouble. People are finally seeing that the agenda of this administration is not for the people it is for government power. I wonder how many of these loony libs you will see here then. I am sure you know exactly the ones I mean. Bet many here will crawl back under their rocks. If the repubs are smart they will start to look for true conservatives who represent the values of the majority of the people in this country.

They don't deny it....
...in fact, lefty libs are in-your-face proud of it: They won! They get the spoils! It's payback time! Sock it to the political oppostion! Yes, we can, because we won!

We hear you lefties, thank you for your candor on the subject.

"So, you think small rural counties should receive the same funding as large urban counties." I think small rural counties that supported Obama should recieve money on par with rural counties that didn't support him.

I know that the dems will be treated very fair when we are back.

Perhaps that is due to the fact that we realize that they are to represent everyone equally not just those how vote for their party.

True facts
How about we let the Washington Monthly shred this story again: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2009_ 07/018996.php

Check it out: counties who voted for Obama received more federal funds when Bush and the Republicans controlled Washington. Hmmm - that Obama guy, he must REALLY know some voodoo.

Editorial Malfeasance.....
The headline of that article is incredibly misleading, and Ms. Leiblau offers a rather knee jerk reaction based off that. If you had bothered to take a closer look at the article ma'am you would have noticed how uncontroversial this piece actually is.

In fact the writer has this to say:

"Much of [the funding] has followed a well-worn path to places that regularly collect a bigger share of federal grants and contracts, guided by formulas that have been in place for decades and leave little room for manipulation. [...]

Investigators who track the stimulus are skeptical that political considerations could be at work. The imbalance is so pronounced -- and the aid so far from complete -- that it would be almost inconceivable for it to be the result of political tinkering, says Adam Hughes, the director of federal fiscal policy for the non-profit OMB Watch. "Even if they wanted to, I don't think the administration has enough people in place yet to actually do that," he says."

And that is not all of it. Analysis of funding patterns from 2005-2007 (while republicans controlled Congress and the White House) illustrates that those same counties showed a very similar disparity. In counties that had favored Obama over McCain in '08, "collected about 50% more government aid then those that supported McCain."

This has more to do with population density then ideology at this point. Cook county Illinois, gets more federal aid then Shelby county Illinois as an example. One is a major metropolitan area, and the other has Shelbyville. Not really that much of a stretch to see which would get more federal dollars. This is nothing new, nor particularly malevolent. The money goes to where the people are.

obama and the dems think

things are getting better. No, really.

By 2010, there will be no one believing obama and the Dems.

When unemployment is at 15% in September 2010, a GOP Congress is a guarantee.

obama wants to pour another trillion into the economy in hopes that it will provide stimulus.

The problem is that he only wants to give the money to his select favorites, whether they will spend the money or not.

In addition, 80% of the trillion they have already budgeted will not be spent this year. What is the point of adding another trillion to our debt when that trillion will not be spent for two or three more years?

This is insanity and only the insane would support such craziness.

We shouldnt be suprised
Those of us who did our homework and researched the candidate found this to be his M.O. Those who donated to his campaigns often received the perks of legislation that BHO helped push through.

Its the Chicago way.
