'As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!!!'
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 10:44 AM

Jon -- The last time there was a "Turkeygate" gaffe of this magnitude, it was on WKRP in Cincinnati, where as a radio promotion/stunt, they dropped turkeys out of a helicopter.

The other thing about the Palin turkey YouTube video clip is that I think it will lend itself quite well to spoofs (what else could be going on in the background while she speaks???).

... Of course, this story is rife with hypocrisy.  Most people who will mock this and find this "cruel" are going to go and eat turkey on Thanksgiving, after all...

that was one of the classic scenes in television history.

shoving turkey's out of a helicopter from 100 feet onto a shopping mall because the station manager thought turkeys could fly.

christianlib,

I agree. It is one of my all time favorites.

Oh, the humanity!...
...Les Nesman emulating the broadcaster of the Hindenburg disaster truly was a TV classic. LMAO.

I don't know about domestic
turkeys, but wild turkeys can fly pretty well, or so it seems. I was driving around the hill from my farm in West Virginia when I startled a flock of wild turkeys gleaning bugs from the grass above the road. They lifted off, sailed down the hill and disappeared in the woods at the foot of the hill -- probably close to one-half mile distance from lift-off. Surprised heck outta me! I'd never seen turkeys do anything except fly a short distance to roost in a tree. I'm pretty sure they were riding the air currents, but they were flying.

Domestic turkeys are only slightly smarter than a three-toed sloth! There are cases of them holding their heads up, beaks open and drowning in heavy rainstorms. They will also pack into a fence corner and smother each other. They rank right up there with sheep for doing dumb things!

Wild turkeys are smart! Ask folks who hunt 'em -- they are very difficult to locate during turkey season. A friend, an avid hunter, says that killing a turkey in season is a major accomplishment!

wild turkeys can fly...
But not for long distances or very high. You normally see them take flight and fly at about 15-20 feet height for 100 yards or so. This is just from my experience, I don't know the actual capabilities of the bird.

lol!
That's funny, but that's like just another day hanging at my uncle's ranch. If they think THAT's disgusting, I'm glad they haven't seen my uncle butcher one of his cows.

I do enjoy seeing my friends' faces when they're not used to seeing those scenes though. lol.

Happy Thanksgiving!!
Where in the world do people think their turkeys come from they put on the table for Thanksgiving! I can't get over how obsessed the left is with Sarah Palin and any "gotha" moment they can find on her. For those of us that live in the "real" world..THIS IS NOT A BIG DEAL!!
Crispian writes: Friday, November, 21, 2008 4:12 PM
Only on MSNBC...
...would that be called "breaking news."

Great reference, lol.

Wild turkey do fly
Quite well and prefer to roost as high as the trees will allow. Not that long ago there was a PBS presentation on turkeys. Can't remember the name, but was interesting. And Franklin's idea of the turkey being on th US seal was the wild variety. The domestic kind are raised for food. Although they have wings they prefer no to use them. Obesity is an ugly thing.

LOL
The NBC kicker headline is priceless: "Turkeys Die As Gov. Palin Takes Questions From Media."

Let me get this straight: If Governor Palin didn't take questions from the media, the turkeys would somehow be alive now? LOL
Julie writes: Friday, November, 21, 2008 9:58 PM
Right, If Palin didn't talk
then Americans would not serve Turkey this year. What a joke!

I propose that we have a new Thanksgiving dinner. Anyone know if wolf meat is palatable? Even though environmentalists have trashed her for it, Gov. Palin has backed thinning the wolf population in her state.

I agree that it was needed for Alaska, but are humans benefiting from the meat? If so, great. If not, is it because the wolf is related to our beloved dogs?

From what I've learned, these wolves are vicious and would attack a human child if it could. A genetic relationship to man's best friend does not trump protecting ourselves or our food chain.

Are the libs....
still harping on and on about Sarah Palin????
How come no scrutiny on Joe Biden or even Michelle Obama????
Oh, I forgot, that MSM thing........

Nice to hear from you again! I doubt we'll ever hear anything about Biden again. And Michelle O. will be on the cover of the ladies mags for months--nothing political, just Oprah/Martha Stewart propaganda.

But yes, the media is still attacking Sarah Palin. Her ability to energize conservatives scares them! Check out the Team Sarah website. It is growing every day.

Good one Julie!
Its so cute to see people who can't tell the difference between "laughing uproariously at the living breathing punchline that is Sarah Palin," and being afraid of her!

Was that supposed to be funny? Did you have a point? The quotes you gave had nothing to do with my post.

A poster at NRO gets the last word:
"She should tell the media that she apologizes and she'll do her next interview inside an abortion clinic."
Seadog writes: Saturday, November, 22, 2008 10:36 AM
I doubt that obesity has
anything to do with domestic turkeys not flying. Domestic turkeys are slaughtered at a certain weight, depending on the market for which the farmer is producing them. Domestic turkeys are flat stupid!

A flock of wild turkeys hang around my farm. They are HUGE, compared with turkeys I see growing on farms. They are fearless too. They often walk right past me in the meadow or the front yard. Now, that said -- don't look for them to do that during turkey season. They are no where to be seen. I have asked folks who hunt how the turkeys know when turkey season comes, but have never received an answer. They openly parade around during other hunting seasons, even when guns are popping off in the woods and on the hills -- don't seem to bother them except during turkey season. Weird!
