My Internet TV/V-Blogging/Thingie Debut Over at HotAir Today

I took my first shot at video-blogging today. I'm filling in for Michelle Malkin on VENT for a couple days while she's on vacation.
I'm off to a meeting, so blogging will be slow for a bit, but go watch me over at Hot Air, if you get the chance.
But remember I'm a first-time v-blogger, so take it easy on me. Hope y'all enjoy!
Update: If you're wondering about the Jackie Passey reference, here are two links to check out, here and here. Watch for some language behind both links.
On a related note, I covered a subject from the video-blog in my column today: So, You Think Social Conservatives Can't Dance?
Reality TV gives a pair of Mormon cousins a shot with the audience they wouldn’t have had had a screen-writer scripted their characters as the predictable, close-minded rubes the entertainment industry often makes religious Americans into. It gives evangelical Gospel singers a chance to simultaneously praise Jesus for their success and form close friendships with their many-hued, many-faithed fellow contestants. From a story on “So You Think You Can Dance”:
Schwimmer says being on the show has allowed him to "erase a lot of stigmas about Mormons. I'm not really normal, but I've been able to show people that we Mormons as a whole are pretty normal people who do love to dance."
And, America loves it.
Reality TV isn’t real life, of course, but it sometimes allows its contestants to be real in a very refreshing way. Keep it in mind the next time you settle in to be entertained by a group of real Americans. The country has much talent to offer, from all walks of life, and I highly recommend it, even for your kids.

MKH:
Thanks for the link...

...which I found to be most amusing. Such manner of self-promotion is soooo gen-y beltway insider wannabe, I'd be ROTFLMAO if I didn't have to work for a living.
It also presumes a particular definition of "quality." N'est ce pas?
Keep it up. |

I enjoyed your v-blogging today. Keep up the good work. I was a bit disturbed by what I found when I Googled 'Jackie Passey' Then I realized that it was simply not possible for any one person to be so self-involved and that this had to be a joke. Bravo to you or whoever pulled this prank. But wasn't that an awful lot of work for a joke?

I thought MKH's initial foray into v-blogging was a kick. She deserves an "A" on her report card. The camera digs M-KAT, and she's obviously quite comfortable in front of it. Contrary to commenter "Play"'s belief, video-blogging is not intended to be merely a stand-up comedy routine on video, rather, it is a medium which enables a blogger to make points by highlighting video clips in a variety of ways.
Think of music videos in a similar context; some music videos show the artist performing live, some attempt a narrative, some are abstract, and some attempt to be experimental in form, a la Peter Gabriel's music videos. MKH highlighted the serious, the silly, the random, and the absurd, sprinkled in with a little self-deprication---all in a few minutes. And the Malkin bit cracked me up. Additionally, the Jackie Passey reference was classic. For commenter "Play"'s benefit, Passey is a 30 year old self-identifying libertarian blogger who has become notorious on the internet over the past week for writing why she believes she's simply unattainable to those of us who are still bachelors.
The very fact that MKH suggested viewers could Google Passey's name supports the notion that Passey is being talked about on the net. |

Hope you can take some constructive and completely unsolicited criticism MKH: I don't understand why you decided to use your opportunity on Michelle's vlog this way. You spent nearly 1/3 of your time trying to hijack some humor from vlogging-has-been Congden and then move on to kiss some Malkin booty by showing her being funny. You weren't funny- they were.
The good entertainment/bad entertainment segment was basically "entertaining" and well done. Good mix of light and heavy subject matter with some funny lines thrown in. 'Bow tie/booty shake'- that's funny! and you have a very cute/likable "ya'll". However, your time would have been better spent if you had ditched the 'How do I vlog' segment and instead made reference to Patricia Heaton's site & funny-contrary (razor?) commercial. She's 'good entertainment' with a conservative bent and it would've made a nice bookend to the Sandra Bernhardt segment. Green Helmet @ the end of the segment brought it home with some gravity. Well done there.
BUTT!, what's with the Jackie Passey reference?! Is she a friend? You probably doubled her page hits but it does you no service to use MM's vlog to associate yourself with that Narcissus with boobs. I spent 20 minutes reading her blog and all I can think is: 'what an ugly person', and I don't mean her physical appearence. (if you're "no Jackie Passey", please stay that way! she's awful.) I hope she gets what she wants in a man; she deserves it.
I look forward to your next effort MKH. We need conservative voices like yours in the blogoshere and vlogging is only going to get bigger. In the end, I'd give you a 'D+' on your HotAir debut. Strong middle; weak beginning and end. Overall, a missed opportunity from someone with good potential.

Haven't had a chance to check out your vent yet since I'm at work (I'm old-school; I like my news and opinion delivered in plain English text), but I'm curious on what sort of setup is used to produce those vblog segments? Can you tell us, or is that classified? |

keep the hot conservative blogger chicks coming on hotair! |

MKH,
Enjoyed your Vent episode. Im biased but I really enjoyed the entertainment news/commentary. We need to interview you for our little vlog at realVerse.com sometime soon! |

Check out this post on her for the answer to why you should care. It's a tad mean, and there's language, but this is what I was referencing: http://ace.mu.nu/archives/193209.php |

Okay, so I watched your foray into video blogdom. Congratulations, you did fine.
Unfortunately, you got me curious about Jackie Passey. Next thing you know, I was going through her archives trying to figure out why she broke up with her boyfriend, especially after he bought that sports car of his. (And don't think for a moment that women don't get off on guys with fast cars. I've lost to one of those things one time too many during my misspent youth. But enough about me...) I even looked on his blog. My only guess is he was way too much into his poker game.
Why do I care? This is all your fault, you know that?
Especially since I already knew Mormons were allowed to dance. They have to do something to get their heart started since they can't drink coffee.
Oh well, keep it up.
