Obama's $20 Million Math Mistake ...

This morning, the Obama campaign fired off an emotionally-tinged fundraising email to their supporters. The urgent message stated:
"The Obama campaign and the DNC ended June with a combined total of nearly $72 million in the bank. It's a healthy number. But McCain and the RNC together still have a huge cash advantage, and we need your help to close the gap.
As I mentioned in my video message to you earlier in the week, we're facing a Republican machine with unprecedented resources at its disposal. The McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee finished June with nearly $100 million in the bank."
(Emphasis theirs).
... But in an under-stated blog post, Politico's Ben Smith informs us that the Obama campaign's math was off by $20 million:
"In total, the Democrats have some $92 million on hand, to the combined Republican total of $95 million."
(The Obama email said they only had $72 million -- now we find out they have $92 million).
Of course, the cynical observation is that Obama's campaign wanted to fire-up their supporters by pretending as if they were losing the money game to the GOP. Remember, Hillary's donors didn't come to her rescue until they knew she really needed it (when she invested $5 million of her own money.) The point is that political donors are more likely to become emotionally involved if they believe they are needed -- and that their candidate is in danger of being beaten -- so there was an incentive for Obama to play-up the disparity.
But a less sinister -- and more charitable -- analysis is that their math was off by $20 million. Of couse, this would be a gross error for such a polished political operation to commit.
Update: I'm told Obama's team sent out a correction email to reporters, but not to their supporters.

The update says: "I'm told Obama's team sent out a correction email to reporters, but not to their supporters." There's a semantic distinction without any practical difference. Reporters ARE his biggest supporters. |

Compared to the $10 Billion we flush down the toilet of Iraq every single month, President-elect Obama's $10 Million sounds good to me. |
|
You know this isn't BHO's fault, everyone says he's just a naive little boy.
naive: 1. artless; ingenous; unaffectedly simplicity 2. trusting; unsuspecting
You gotta' cut this tyro some slack.
To paraphrase Ann Richards: Po' Barack, he cain't hep it, he was born with a silver foot in his mouth. |

What does anyone expect from a guy who thinks there are 57 states?
And as for Kimberly who complains about TH posting "mindless minutia," she IS mindless minutia. |
|
So let's get this in perspective:
[1] when dealing with financial figures in the tens of millions, some commentary here suggests that a misrepresentation in excess of 20% is nitpicking that is out of bounds when discussing the luminous Sen. Obama.
[2] would the author(s) of such commentary be willing to be as forgiving of CEO's whose financial projections might actually be influenced by things outside their own control? Hmmmm? I thought not. More likely they want to enjoy the fun of a Stalin-era show trial before congressional committees and/or a public drawing and quartering party.
[3]If Obama and Co. are so willing to play it fast and loose with their presumed supporters, I wonder what scruples a President Obama will harbor when he is dealing with the American public at large and the impact is measured in the trillions of dollars? Hmmmmm? Yeah .. scruple this...
Conclusion: the innumeracy term is a misnomer. The more likely explanation of Sen. Obama is the usual manipulation that politicos employ in the scruple-free zone of DC politics. There is absolutely no reason to expect anything different from a journeyman Chicago-style politico with delusions of grandeur and a streak of megalomania in his pronouncements. |

It's truly astonishing how gullible the guilt ridden liberals and most of the American black community can be. Just about everything in the Obama camp is a lie. Starting with basics, Obama isn't an "African" American, nor truly "Black". He is, however, 74% ARAB! As all of his three names confirm. The whole campaign is one monstruous lie. This is truly a "Voodoo" campaign.

With this charlaton...The Obamassiah obviously didn't learn math in that "predominately Muslim school" in Indonesia.
BUT, he obviously learned plenty about hating America.
W/O= |

You criticize TH for "mindless minutia" ... but you expect your vacuuous opinions to be posted??
LMAO!!
Oh that's classic... |
|
Maybe this is the new math that Obama wants to be taught in the education system. The correction was sent to the reporters and not the supporters? Hmm...wonder why?
As for the money on either side, I just have a hard time with all of this money for campaigning. It would be nice to see a candidate run on a small amount, keep to a budget. I know this will never happen, but I can dream. |

what diff does it make whether it's 1 million, two million whatever... |
|

What else can be expected of the devious Obama camp?! They, like most politicians, believe the end justifys any means to get to it. Clinton did remarkable considering; she won the "popular" vote after being outspent 4 to 1! Doesn't that tell you something? Obama doesn't care if he wins by hook or crook! But with McCain, he could win the Presidency by BUYING it! So Obama wins by default and not because he's ready or deserving to govern the most important job in the world! With all his money and McCain in Bushes shadow, the lucky, teflon Rookie will probably win. A sad day for America! |
|
Imagine
Obama, personally has spent over 1/4 of a billion to become President
Plus the FREE media he gets from the liberal media:
Plus now he is buying votes with is "CHECK TO THE PARASITES' plan, at the expense of taxpayers:
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMm
He is worse than dishonest |
|
|
...or after he sends $20M off to that new youth organization, "Blacks with Bow Ties?" |
|
Obama:
change is he changes his story every other day
change is his calculated lies about everything
Hope is that he hopes he does not get caught in his criminal activities |
|
|
This is hardly an attack. Just pointing out that Barak Obama and his team are a bunch of dumb s--ts that cannot do math! |
|
It's the math of paranoid, hyperbolic fundraising.
Sorry, Ronnie; it is news when your own candidate's campaign lies in a fundraising e-mail. It speaks to the character, integrity, and competence of the candidate and his campaign.
And tell the guy to stop whining about the impression that his wife created several months ago. It's unfortunate that the high-priced and high-profile makeover didn't work and, indeed, got undermined with The New Yorker cover. But that's politics, and there's no whining in politics--unless you're the effeminate Barack Obama. |

You guys are going after some seriously weak angles! Stick with the Rev Wright stuff, this stuff is boring! |
