McCain's Speech
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 3:01 PM

A quick word from DC, where I'll be participating in the Best Friends summit tomorrow . . .

Watching on television, some technical aspects of the speech came off a little strange -- the green screen, the picture of the school in the background, etc. etc.  And certainly McCain is not the orator that Obama is.

But there was something very right, very reassuring about both Senator McCain and the contents of his speech.  It all comes down to "whom do you know?  Whom do you trust?"

Senator McCain told us what he would do.  But just as importantly, he helped Americans understand why he wants to do it.  He's not a "nowhere man," who comes without roots, without context, without friends or associates gathered over the course of a lifetime.

His speech excelled in providing context -- his context.  And that knowledge and understanding helps build trust with voters.  The contrast with Barack's self-absorption couldn't be clearer.

For Senator McCain, it isn't about him . . . it's about America.  With Barack, it's still not clear who it's about, what it's about and why.

Back to sunny California tomorrow night.

Not a mistake Senator Obama...

The Anchoress has a nice collection of great nuggests like the one above today. Enjoy: http://theanchoressonline.com/2008/09/05/reactions-media-e rrors-and-more/

Hmm...
"whom do you know?"

Neither. Both men have image consultants, political consultants, handlers, speechwriters, all designed to put out the right image, the right look, the right message to the voters.

I don't know the real McCain or Obama. And neither do you. All we know are the candidates McCain and Obama.

"Whom do you trust?"

God. But He's not on the ballot.

This side of the pond....
....McCain is greatly respected and truly liked by the crowd I work with -- mainly Germans and Swiss with a few Brits and Americans on the next floor. They think he could have been a great President in 2000 and 2004.

But, the folks over here think Obama will win this one.

Sadly, I don't.

McCain/Palin change is coming.
McCain did a great job with his message fight with me he said, stand up and fight with me, do whats right for America, McCain/Palin, change is coming, the speech was moving, McCain is not the best speaker, but a good speaker doesnt make a good President, McCain will be a great President, McCain will do whats right for the American people.
