New McCain Ad: 'Lipstick'
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 7:28 AM
This sort of puts it all together ...

Update:  Several folks are pointing out that McCain has used this cliche in the past, and that an aide of his has a book titled, "Lipstick on a Pig."  Of course, this is entirely irrelevant.  The context of Obama's remark is what matters.  Just last week, Palin delivered those lines.  They weren't hidden in her speech -- it was the most famous line of her entire political career.  And you're telling me Obama wasn't at least making a veiled reference?  He's either a complete idiot -- or guilty of this attack:  It must be one or the other ...

Update:  Hmm.  Obama surrogate Russ Carnahan also made a lipstick reference yesterday.  Coincidence???

Additional Note: Pig Insults and Islam
I'm still unconvinced regarding whether he retained his childhood religious training, ie. whether he is muslim - BUT - if this was a freudian slip, his use of the pig image in context of that religion's abhorrance of pigs is an interesting factor

Another Madison Avenue Approach
Consider this comment from the Michelle Obama’s staff. Could it have a connection with Obama’s lipstick remark? A possible indication of some sort of strategy to put this pig/pork image out there in an effort to brand Sarah Palin? Notice the Madison avenue approach, the use of imagery. Images of Miss piggy(ugly) and Leona Helmsly(greedy).

Politico quoted Michelle Obama’s “chief of staff” [ btw --a very interesting title for his wife’s assistant-especially after Obama announced she was not running for office ]:

“Stephanie Cutter, Michelle Obama's chief of staff, told MSNBC on Tuesday: "The more we learn about her, the more these facts don't add up. We now learn that she's the queen of pork in Alaska."

Lipstick on a pig, the queen of pork.. the unpleasant image of a pig.. I may be over-reaching, but I think this “[pork/pig] trend will continue to be their theme. They used the same strategy with McCain earlier. Take what he is recognized for doing and then run ads over and over which claim the exact opposite. So we’re probably in for tons of ads attempting to paint her as the “pork queen”

Democrat Mike Gravel defends Gov. Palin
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/09/09/comedy-gold-lefty-rad io-hosts-crestfallen-as-palin-defended-by-mike-gravel/

I especially love in this Pacifico interview (Pacifico, isn't that another right wing talk radio show?) how they keep digging for something bad from lefty Mike Gravel and he has nothing but nice things to say about Sarah Palin.

But the topper is when Gravel says what was she supposed to do, wait till this out of control trooper killed somebody? Gravel says the trooper's union needs to back off this and support doing the right thing.

Wow. It is refreshing to hear someone on the left speak honestly.

Ad was pulled..
"YouTube pulled the ad with Couric on it because of a complaint from CBS."

Ad pulled?
..seems like the video is no longer available.
animalgirl writes: Wednesday, September, 10, 2008 9:57 AM
If
The context is what matters, why does the ad, and you, strip all of the conext away when showing the clip? The fact is, he wasn't even talking about Sarah Palin.

He was using a very familiar expression, and it has sent pathetic conservatives into hysterics because you don't have anything of substance to talk about.

Goat
Just words?

If your candidate makes similar gaffes as president, which he will should he win, we'll be looking at one of the most dangerous (to US citizens) presidents ever to take the oath of office.

What'll this clown say to Putin? Ahmadinejad? How will it be interpreted? If Obama is ridiculed (vs. hated like Bush) by his political enemies in the US, what'll world leaders think about our man-child president?

I'd rather be hated and feared than ridiculed.

Hey stinky goat
In regards to this:

"What matters to me is that John McCain is 90%like George W. Bush."

Seems to me Obama voted with the liberal dems 100% of the time. Change?
You lose.........

Good Ad But ...
... is this really what is important? I am voting for McCain because I will get Palin along with him. I am voting for McCain because it will put Obama the empty shirt out to pasture. But after jabbing him for his stupid statements, we now need to put together a strategy for how we will make America the dominant economic force in the world for the 21st century. I hate Chris Matthews politics but what he said on Joe Scarborough's show today made sense. The 20th century was the American century because we dominated militarily. Now we are going to live through the Chinese century if we don't refocus on economics like we did the cold war 60 years ago. Let's do an ad about that which is equally inventive and memorable!

Fat Man writes: Wednesday, September, 10, 2008 8:48 AM
How many times?

How many times have we marvelled at the brilliance of the McCain campaign's televeision ads?!?!?!?!

These folks are really good!

Lerxst writes: Wednesday, September, 10, 2008 8:28 AM
"trivial, stupid side-shows"
Yep, that about sums up Obama. He's fast becoming the bearded lady of the campaign. Dumb, almost certainly fake and really not worth the price of admission even for a cheap laugh.

Joe writes: Wednesday, September, 10, 2008 8:18 AM
That was fast
I thought it was a good news cycle gaffe on Barack's part, but when you put it together like that it stings the next day.
My Pet Goat writes: Wednesday, September, 10, 2008 7:58 AM
Brilliant
I'll give you people this much: you are brilliant at keeping the conversation diverted from what really matters and on trivial, stupid side-shows.

What matters to me is that John McCain is 90% like George W. Bush.

Anything else is a skillful diversion. And that's probably why you people will win.
