Promoting New American Energy Act

Today I introduced the Promoting New American Energy Act to accelerate tax depreciation for renewable energy investments and other energy technologies.
Specifically, this bill would accelerate tax depreciation to 3 years for investments in newer, cleaner, and more efficient energy technologies. By encouraging greater investment in solar, wind, geothermal and more, these alternatives become a bigger part of our arsenal of energy options more quickly. And a diverse arsenal of solutions will decrease our dependence on foreign oil and curb our gas costs.
According to a study by the nonprofit, nonpartisan American Council for Capital Formation, investments in alternative energy experience less favorable tax depreciation rules in the U.S. compared to many other countries. My legislation will put America on better footing globally and take us one step closer to increasing our domestic energy production.
The fact of the matter is that our nation is in an energy crisis and Congress needs to do everything in its power to increase domestic energy production and exploration. By establishing new tax incentives to encourage purchases of energy production equipment and technologies, this bill provides American businesses with the tools needed to increase production and lower our current sky-rocketing energy costs.
I also had the privilege today to attend and address the 11th Annual Congressional Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency EXPO Forum.
At the forum, I got to speak a little bit about this new piece of legislation, and I have a little clip here you can check out:
The event brought together nearly fifty businesses, sustainable energy industry trade associations, government agencies, and energy policy research organizations to showcase the status and potential of the broad cross-section of renewable energy (biofuels/biomass, geothermal, solar, water, wind) and energy efficiency technologies.
This bill is a vital piece of my All-of-the-Above energy strategy that calls for an increase in the production and exploration of America’s own energy resources, but improves conservation and energy efficiency and promotes new and ever-improving energy technologies to help bring gas costs down.

In a thread below, I was trying to explain to another commenter that Michele lies, easily, on important matters of public policy. No sooner do I finish typing that one up, than someone sends me a lie that Rep. Bachmann told today, about solar and wind energy policy.
She was speaking on a local conservative talk radio program when she accused the Dems of blocking tax credits for solar and wind energy entrepreneurs. Well, a local blogger pointed out that it was in fact the GOP that's been blocking those tax credits.
Here's Bachmann, speaking of Democrats: BACHMANN:...They’re so strange Laura, they won’t even pass the tax credit for solar and wind right now. I mean, they claim to be the big solar/wind people, they won’t even pass that.
INGRAHAM: Now why are they not doing that?
BACHMANN: We don’t know. It is no energy any of the time. We are for all energy all of the time.
And here's the Associated Press report on the voting: "For the fourth time this summer Republicans stopped the Senate from taking up wide-ranging legislation that extends tax breaks for teachers, businesses and parents and provides tax credits to an array of renewable energy entrepreneurs. […] The bill would extend some $18 billion worth of renewable energy tax credits, helping out investors in wind and solar power, clean coal, plug-in electric vehicles and a variety of others."
It's the lies, babe. |

legislation would not get add-ons to it which make it harder to pass a bill. If other pieces of legislation need to be passed make them a single bill and QUIT getting everything muddled. It's not like legislators aren't supposed to be there for at least 8 hours a day working. But maybe the concept of WORK escapes politicians.
If the tax incentives are for energy, then make it about ENERGY. If it's tax credits for citizens, then make it about CITIZENS. Enough of the bs already. It's the use of adding all things to every bill that bogs down the process and allows all that pork barrel spending to get through.
Everytime I watch CSPAN, I never see more than a handful of legislators in the room. It appears they need some time management lessons or at the least a schedule and please don't try to use the excuse of having committee meeting conflicts because again, that is nothing more than a scheduling problem. |
|
Bachmann has voted against renewable energy every single time it's come before her. She has voted against renewing the renewable energy tax credits for homeowners and businesses. She has voted against higher fleet mileage requirements for automakers. There's not an honest bone in Michele Bachmann's body. This is the oiliest, most dishonest politician Minnesota has ever sent to Washington. |

Question:
Who is responsible for not allowing energy legislation to be voted on in the last month?
Answer: Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the Democrats.
How can you accuse Michele of lying when the Dems won't allow a vote?
Your position is not well supported by the facts.
In light of the recent democratic oil embargo, Michele's comments seem to have the ring of truth.
Would you care to address this logic?

"How can you accuse Michele of lying when the Dems won't allow a vote?
Your position is not well supported by the facts."
I did address this, in the post above. I don't know what to do with you anymore, Pennsylvania.
In a previous thread, I was explaining to you that it was important for anyone reading this blog to know that Michele was a confirmed liar who lies easily about important matters.
In this thread, I send you an example that took place publicly, while we writing about whether or not she's a liar. I show you Michele's on-air comments blaming the Democrats for failing to pass tax credits for solar/wind development. Then I post an AP story that proves that what Michele is telling thousands of listeners to conservative talk radio--is simply not true: according a news organization of record, the Associated Press--it was Senate Republicans who blocked the tax credits to solar/wind development--not Democrats.
I honestly don't know what to say anymore, Pennsylvania. Here you have the lie, it's in your face, and you can't or don't want to see it. Rep. Bachmann was simply trying to mislead another audience with false information about what actually took place. The facts contradict her assertion.
So there's your "logic," addressed--again. If you can't see that or refuse to call her to account for that lie--when it's right in front of you--you are agreeing to be victimized by lying politicians. And I'm sorry, I can't support you in that. |

My main point is this:
Michele's on-air comments (if Michele's comments were done today) blaming the Democrats for failing to pass tax credits for solar/wind development is true since Nancy Pelosi will not allow any energy legislation to be voted on.
Where is the flaw in this specific statement?
Is one of us taking things out of context?

The tax credits were part of a bill that would have been voted on in the Senate if the GOP had not blocked it. It was not Nancy Pelosi in the Congress doing the blocking, it was the GOP in the Senate that blocked the bill. Michele's statement that the Democrats blocked the tax credits for solar/wind is patently false. She compounds the deception by assigning the blame to the Dems, instead of the Senate Republicans who blocked the bill.
Here is the link to the Associated Press story, so you can see for yourself about the context: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080730/ap_on_go_co/congress_ta xes
If you will read it, you will see that it was not Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid or any Democrat that prevented a vote on the solar/wind tax credits: it was the GOP senate, and they blocked this four times so far.
This, also from the story, will give you an idea *why* the GOP "more drilling" lobby keeps blocking the legislation:
"Last month more than 300 high-tech and manufacturing companies warned Congress that failure to act quickly "will bring investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects to a standstill."
She lied about what was done, about who did it, and about who is to blame.

The squeeky wheel gets the oil! Let's keep at this. I can guarantee you there is almost infinite polictical capital to be spent in the area of energy independence. |

Good stuff Michelle...keep it up |
|
OK, BillP I took a look at your references and the context.
Michele would be lying if she was referring to the US Senate, If she was referring to the US House of Representatives her statement is true.
If she was referring to democrats in general then her statement would still be true.
So where is your evidence that she was referring to the US Senate democrats and therefore lying?

truth about what went on here, do ya? But I'll show it to you anyway. Reminder: the lie I am accusing her of is telling voters that it was the Democrats who stopped tax credits for solar and wind energy. Here's the transcript. "Ingraham" is the name of the local conservative talk radio host she was appearing with.
Transcript:
INGRAHAM: Now, we see that Democrats are acting as the ultimate obstructionists.
BACHMANN: Yes.
INGRAHAM: They don’t, they don’t want to do anything the American people clearly are showing that they want.
BACHMANN: This is their mission. This is mission accomplished for them. They’re doing exactly what they want to do, which is do not increase American energy resources, whether it’s natural gas, coal or oil. They want none of it.
INGRAHAM: And so, and the Republican, right, the Republican Party right now, is saying, you proceed down these lines, we are not going to allow you, or do everything we can in our power, to stop votes on other bills that you want. Is that what’s going on?
BACHMANN: Oh, without a doubt, without a doubt. What we want to do is accomplish the people’s mission, which is open up every source of energy there is. They’re so strange Laura, they won’t even pass the tax credit for solar and wind right now. I mean, they claim to be the big solar/wind people, they won’t even pass that.
INGRAHAM: Now why are they not doing that?
BACHMANN: We don’t know. It is no energy any of the time. We are for all energy all of the time. Cause the crux of this issue is whether or not we will make it legal to access American energy. We’re the only country in the world that makes it illegal to access our own energy supply, hence we are 70 percent dependent on foreign oil and will be 80 percent in the next decade if we don’t change course. |
