The Veepstakes Continues...
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 10:46 AM
Last night, I floated a few "veep" possibilities.  I've received a few emails from readers suggesting I consider Utah gov. Jon Huntsman.

Any thoughts or opinions on him?

Yeah I was making fun of Virginia Patriot and Pasadena Phil with my handle, but I was very open about it. Phil loves to slander me up and down all day, so I figured what the heck, I might as well dish some back. If you took offense, my apologies. But it was no secret.

As for posting as "Real Conservatives Back McCain over Obama" well that was me too (when I changed from the previous handle). I said it was me repeatedly. And I believe that statement, so there is nothing wrong with it.

Eddie II or eddie too(or those other eddie posters) are not me. But I don't disagree with eddie that there are profound differences between Obama and McCain and McCain is far more desirable as a President.

Give Huck a Second Look
The latest from Rasmussen suggests he'd be a great asset:

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/ele ction_20082/2008_presidential_election/huckabee_lieberman_h ave_highest_favorables_among_possible_mccain_veep_choices

Huckabee Favorable: 47%
Huckabee Unfavorable: 39%

And just for contrast's sake, since Townhall seems to be in a constant Romney-love fest:

Romney Favorable: 42%
Romney Unfavorable: 48%

Matt, Matt, Matt.
Keep tossing out the Mormon names. It sends some here into outer space. A candidate who's dad is also a LDS General Authority? Naaaaaa.

Huntsman is Arnold without personality. I'd vote for him, but only if all others are exhaused. I would however, vote for Huntsman before I'd vote for Huck.

This is from the official Shoeless John campaign website:

http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/68db8157-d301-4e 22-baf7-a70dd8416efa.htm

This is the exact same amnesty bill he proposed TWICE and that resulted in the catastrophic (for Republicans) November 2006 elections.

"It isn't amnesty. Call it anything you want, call it banana but it isn't amnesty."

Okay, then. WE DON'T WANT A CANDIDATE WHO SUPPORTS BANANA!!! Does that help you understand?

which one of us said there is no difference between McCain and Obama? Of course there is:

McCain has way more impressive Dem/lib bills passed with his name on them than the short-timer Obama.

You're humping up the wrong leg, amigo. It's not "Who is better?" anymore. It is "What do we want for the long run?". Quit thinking like a Dem/lib.
ScarletPimpernel writes: Monday, July, 28, 2008 2:47 PM
uh, Joe? Vestigal? Real Con?
I'm not sure which one of you is you but in my comments the other day about those lacking primary male characteristics - I was posting that to the PP/VP Vestigal Tail person, NOT to Joe. Joe, you responded as if I posted to you. Sorry if you thought that. I don't mind your wrongness. I objected to the child signing in as real posters here and insulting them in their handle. If you ARE PP/VP vestigal tail, then you should stop because you're better than that.

That is all.
eddie too writes: Monday, July, 28, 2008 2:36 PM
McCain has said he opposes

amnesty. Why should people believe an anonymous poster on an internet blog instead of the candidate's own words?

John McCain has made it clear he does not support amnesty. Those who claim he does are lying and have no evidence to support their lies.

McCain DOES NOT oppose amnesty. He was the author of the last TWO amnesty bills. He is still pushing amnesty, even though it will cost him the election.

Latest federal budget deficit? $490 Billion!

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aVdPjt7 fCiXc&refer=home

Team Bush had projected $410 Billion (astounding in itself)

Doesn't include Iraq War.

Also doesn't include the real eventual cost of all the bailout bills.

Doesn't include the McCain "Cap and Trade" bill.

Doesn't include the economic impact of having a President McCain reining in "those villains on Wall Street" with higher taxes and bigger government.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aVLF 68kNBUgA

I don't want to hear any more about Bush and the current GOP being conservative. This is the worst economic admin/Congress ever by far! While Obama was taking on McCain's challenge to see the world and turning into a rock star, what was McCain doing? Photo op with Bush in a golf cart.

Want to win an election in November? Get someone with credible bona fides on the economy. Obama has a very good economic team including Paul Volker. McCain had Phil Gramm, he who led the resistance against reforming Fannie and Freddie.

You were saying "Joe of Many Dresses"? I know, I'm a "hater" but besides that. Facts please.

Vote 3rd party. Put this miserable one-party system out of its misery.

What's the Point of Pulling an Unknown..
...out of the hat? Huntsman's great, but another white, male Mormon millionaire. I saw Pawlenty for the first time on Hannity. Very boring. Adds nothing. I've never heard of Mitch Daniels.

Mitt's vetted. Knows his way around the debates and the media. Joe's right. Turn the fact people got laid off through Bain into a plus. Mitt was successful at Bain and he'll be successful as VP--and POTUS if necessary.

Mitt's communication skills, which I feel are greatly needed these days, outshine McCain's, Pawlenty's and even the touted Barack, who hems and haws w/o his teleprompter and gives empty speeches with it.

Mitt's good on substance and style.

As for people who won't vote for a Mormon, let them go suck eggs. We'll just have to win without 'em.

A lefty's prediction
For all the veepstakes talk at TH, almost no mention of the fact that whoever McCain chooses will have an enormous leg up on the 2012 race-- win or lose, unless that person hurts the ticket, of course.

That's why it won't be Romney, in the end, simply because for all his faults McCain is too classy a guy to go there. It'll be someone he genuinely likes and believes in, like Gov. Pawlenty.

Huckabee or Steele

are JSM's best choices for VP.

Vote for John McCain, conservatism's champion!!!!
eddie too writes: Monday, July, 28, 2008 11:37 AM
Only a moron thinks there

are no substantive differences between John McCain and Barry Obama.

Obama supports keeping abortion legal, infanticide, mainstreaming same-sex sodomy, gun control, bigger government, higher tax rates, a weak foreign policy, amnesty, and liberal justices on the the SCOTUS among many positions.

John McCain opposes all of the above. Anyone who posts that there is no difference between John McCain and Obama are stupid, too stupid to give their postings any respect for reason and intelligence.

Joe, Don't Hate Me 'Cause I'm Right writes: Monday, July, 28, 2008 11:01 AM
I think it is down to Mitt or Tim
Yes I am Joe.

Tim is McCain's friend. Trusted. The safe, albeit boring, choice. Not bad, but will not exactly excite anyone.

Mitt Romney is the better choice, so long as he is presented as the economic half of team McCain. The dangers are Mitt's background of layoffs may alienate working class Dems leery of Obama but suspicious about a pro corporate mentality. But if Mitt is presented as the guy who will help McCain revitalize American industry by promoting a friendly federal conservatve climate for business to thrive in (the type of climate change we really want) then Mitt is a big assest.

As for Evangelicals, Pawlenty may be slightly more favorable than Romney. But most Evangelicals do not hate Romney and I think guys like Dobson probably prefer Romney (slightly) over McCain and prefer both of them (by substantially broader margins) over Barack Obama. But Mitt is an asset on his economic background, not his social conservative background (which is rather spotty at best anyway).

Sarah Palin would be the bold pick. But I suspect she does not want to run given the age of her children.

I agree, he's the choice if you want Mitt, but Mitt is unavailable. And you also don't get the possibility of coming close or even winning in Michigan and Massachusetts.

Well, he speaks Chinese
I guess he would be the choice if you wanted Mitt Romney but Mitt Romney was for some reason unavailable.
