The Foley Scandal to Turn Into An Outing Campaign?
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 4:02 PM

I just asked someone on IM just now what he thinks the over-under is on when "The List" hits the Left blogs.

I blogged about this earlier today:

And, the liberal blogosphere may be itching to go all "Michael Rogers" on the GOP. You know, because they love gay people and privacy above all, which requires that they start outing gay Republican staffers against their wishes for political advantage. Tolerance.

GayPatriot, who once stopped blogging due to a Michael Rogers campaign against him, responds to the David Corn post I linked above.

Read the whole thing:

No party has the power or right to tell me I am a full citizen. Supporting or opposing gay marriage does not make you a hypocrite. It makes you question the policy on its face. I am a full citizen thanks to the US Constitution.

Did it ever occur to Mr. Corn that the representatives and Senators he mentions that may or may not have gay staffers do not care about their sexual orientation yet value their participation as public servants? Is it not rational that you can hire a gay staffer, but at the same time oppose PUBLIC POLICY POSITIONS that you are morally or philosophically opposed to without being labeled a homophobe?

The Rogers shtick has always made me sick to my stomach, and I think it will do the same to many other voters. Turning the page scandal into an outing campaign would not only show utter disrespect for a segment of a community the Left purports to champion, but it would showcase the almost-Phelpsian P.R. style the Nutroots have become so famous for.

What was it Dean said? Never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity?

Update: Looks like Fordham, who resigned today, was a Rogers target, too. Via, Macsmind.

Update: Oooh, Ace, you funny.

Update: Masturgate!

Where?
"A good portion of the posts on this site are from hard core fundies baying for gay blood."

Please back up this assertion. What's a good portion? Sounds like these should be easy to spot.

How's the closet working out for Foley?
And the rest of the Republican Party right now?

The man threw his life away because he spent it living in a sick, twisted world built on lies.

Is lying bad, yes or no? The right wing has spent the past 10 years screaming about Clinton lying about sex. Yet now it's okay?

The pompous and arrogant left
It is amazing how these lefties are the ones who are judgemental and arrogant. They decide who gets outed and who stays in the closet.
I'm sick of it. I am sick of these lefties and their pompous self rightousness and judgementalism!!!.

The posts on my site?
Are you alleging that I "bay for gay blood" on this blog, RichB? Surely not. I think it's horrible to out someone against their wishes whether they're Republican or not, whether it's political or not. It's disrespectful. Coming out is an emotional, personal experience for a gay person, and it's not your right or Michael Rogers' or anyone else's to decide when it happens.

You say, "To point out to them that they are in fact voting for gay closeted Republicans when they vote for the likes of Mark Foley, Lindsay Graham and David Dreier is hardly out of bounds."

You yourself admit the Dems have already been using rumors about these men's sexuality and private lives as political pawns for some time. How's that workin' out for ya? They're all still in office/position except Foley, who was rightly ousted for bad conduct. Maybe Republicans, as a whole, aren't as homophobic as you wish to believe they are? The rumors haven't scared them away from these men.

For me, personally, the outing-for-political-advantage scheme just doesn't sit right. It feels invasive, and much of the conservative, small government, Leave Me Alone Coalition crowd agrees with me.

The DEMS have Won!
The Dems are achieving exactly what they planned before the elections.

They will have fractured the Republican Party by November and will take control.

Rush is absolutely correct that this is the Gang of Clinton at its best.

If this continues and the Republican Party engages in a witch hunt for gays with the help of the Gay Left it will be disastrous.

Do you read your own site?
A good portion of the posts on this site are from hard core fundies baying for gay blood. To point out to them that they are in fact voting for gay closeted Republicans when they vote for the likes of Mark Foley, Lindsay Graham and David Dreier is hardly out of bounds. I mean, come on, the Republican National Committee is even headed by a closet case.

The Republican Party is pursuing a Gay Agenda to keep gay people in the closet. It's fine to be gay, you can even be the head of the party, just be sure and lie about it. Your posturing about the evils of outing hypocrites is part and parcel of that agenda.

war plan
I guess the Dems DID have a war plan after all, but it's not a war plan for Iraq. It's a war plan for American elections, and it's called "scorched Earth."
