you might want to watch the leading questions though. Fight the urge to preface, try to map out the question formulations beforehand; make them succint and obvious to the point - especially when you are talking to someone on the phone who is likely otherwise distracted. |

I am not surprised by the lack of understanding evidenced by Ken Blackwell's comments, as the Jena 6 story was buried by the MSM until it could no longer be ignored. While I can't recap all of the particulars in a comment, suffice it to say that a lot happened between the hanging of nooses in the "white tree" of Jena High School and the beating of Justin Parker. In each of these precipitating incidents, the punishment that was meted out to white perpetrators was mild relative to that received by blacks.
The involvement of Jesse and Al notwithstanding, what is happening in Jena, LA should concern conservatives every bit as much as what happens in Iraq, Iraq or in Washington,D.C. I myself attempted to dismiss this as the typical behavior of "Dixie-crats," but the fact is that Jena is nestled in LaSalle Parish, which votes overwhelmingly Republican; it's safe to say that the power structure, to include the District Attorney (who has been the root of much of the problems thus far) is Republican by party affiliation.
As we prepare for the '08 elections, conservatives cannot create so large a tent that we make room for those who carry the detritus of racial prejudice, as we can't build a majority party based on contempt for the minority. In order to remain true to our roots as a party dedicated to equality of opportunity (as opposed to outcome), we must sanitize our ranks of those who betray the principled stances that led to our party's formation. The righteous outrage of Republicans over racially motivated miscarriages of justice must be such that our position on such matters is crystal clear. If we do not speak, we leave space for the Jacksons and the Sharptons to indict America - and its judicial system - as racist.
For those who are so inclined, inquiries about donating to the Jena 6 Legal Defense Fund can be addressed to: jena6defense@gmail.com |

Hey rsa securid,
We sure don't want those paragons of virtue the "revs" Jackson and Sharpton to indict America as racist do we? In case you have just arrived from outer space or have been living on a deserted island, there is no one more racist in this nation than either of those two smarmy race hustlers.
I don't suppose you would happen to have the link to the Michael Vick defense fund also, would you? |

Excellent post. Though I am afraid it is in vain.
I do NOT think that the Republicans will make any attempt to purge the racists from the party. The racists are easy to please, and Rs wrote off the black vote anyway.
They have excused racist behavior for decades now, and continue to do so by ignoring the real issue at hand and just talking about Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.
They HAVE to change the subject like that. Because they don't want to condone the racism in Jena, but they sure as heck don't want to condemn it. That's a dark red county.... |
