Responding To "An Army Of Sarahs"
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 4:49 PM
My column, "An Army of Sarahs," has triggered quite few moving e-mails, none more so than this one:

Hugh

I want to tell you why your column touched me, and one reason why I both support Sarah Palin and positively detest those who use Trig against her.

About 35 years ago, a very scared young woman gave birth to a profoundly birth-defective child.  He had hydrocepahic problems and doctors said he couldn't hope to live more than six weeks.

However, this woman - one of the bravest persons I've ever met - would not give up on her hopeless son.  I wish the story had a happier ending, but that boy lived for nearly four years because of his mother's unbroken will.

During all that time, however, "well-meaning" friends and family let her know that the child's birth defects were somehow her fault (if only as a judgment by an Angry God).  That was a grief-born guilt she could never release.

We were married nearly a decade after her son died; we had our own son, who tragically was killed in a one-car accident (he was driving, had only had a license for 8 days, and I taught him to drive - so I know something of pain and guilt).  But that original guilt was compounded by the death of our son - and years later, after "celebrating" the death of her first son and facing - in a couple of weeks - the anniversary of our son (and dealing with a depth of depression and delusion that her doctor completely missed - as did I), she sent me out to the grocery store then ended her life.  I know that a loving God understands and forgives her - that gives me the strength I need to carry on.

But this is about Sarah Palin.  Like my late wife, she is being blamed and judged by those - mostly people who don't know her and almost always by those who want to destroy her politically - who have no care about the crushing guilt they're trying to place on Sarah and Todd - but especially Sarah.

Ignorance is no excuse - it is only Sarah's inherent strength (and the special love that Down Syndrome kids seem to evoke and invoke) that will save her from the kind of crushing guilt that my Karol couldn't, ultimately, survive.

I KNOW what they are doing, and I KNOW what it could do to Sarah Palin.  And I will neither condone nor ever forgive (let alone forget) what they are doing - and not for high moral principle gone awry, but for mean and cheap and petty political gain.

Will they in their evil hearts get the forgiveness I know my Karol received?  I am in no position to second-guess God, but if He was to ask me, I'd ask him to create a special circle of Hell for all who heap the coals of guilt (for any reason) on the grieving mothers who give birth to children with live-threatening or life-altering special needs.

Thank you for what you've said - you are right, and you are right to keep saying it.

Main point on mother of 8
The part of the post from mother of 8 that points her to be possibly a phony is where she says Palin went AWOL during hard times. How in the world would she have any idea that has happened! And then suggesting she was hiding dirt. Obama sent a team of 30 to Alaska to turn up dirt. Hmmm haven't seen anything other than the lies being spread via emails and posts.

Regarding mother of 8's critics
I read Mother of 8's post, and it seemed to be a genuine criticism by an actual mom. I personally don't agree with her opinion (that because Palin isn't a stay-at-home mom, she isn't a good mother). But I see no need to resort to name calling ("troll"), or disbelief ("probably doesn't even have kids"), or cynicism ("you must have a deeper reason").

I have been a career-mom and a stay-at-home mom. Many of my friends have large families and/or home school. And I can tell you that some people do indeed have quite strong opinions on the subject of whether children NEED their mom to stay home with them. Perhaps it's a defensive reaction--some stay-at-home moms have gotten so much criticism of their choice that they defend it as not only good but necessary, not only for them but for everyone.

So yes, Mother of 8 probably is a mom, with 8 kids, who believes strongly that mothers should stay home with their children who need them.

If you can't identify with her, that doesn't mean you should insult and dismiss her.

To the mother of 8 who dislikes Sarah
It is not your place to judge whether Sarah Palin is a good mother or not. I think Sarah is a breath of fresh air - can stand up for all motherhood as well as the citizens of this country. Sarah evidently has a good husband, good parents and has done a great deal for the citizens of Alaska - 80% approval rating. I was a working mother with three children without the support of a husband and we came through. All families, whether they have stay at home Moms or not face challenges.

Mother of 8 who disapproves of Sarah: Get over it. You must have a deeper reason than the one you gave.

The RNC has learned how to run an election. McCain wants former Hillary voters to vote for McCain Palin?

Trig's Right To Life
My daughter was a "pro-choice" young woman, feminist, et al.
I have always been pro-life as has my spouse an OB-Gyn.
Then my daughter, fresh out of college, began her first job working with
adults with special needs and challenges. Among them were a number of Down syndrome people. They and the others completely changed her mind about abortion. She told me she would never abort a child determined to be given a special challenge in life. She spoke of the joy these Down people effused, and how much fun they were to work with and teach. She also spoke of how much they loved living their special lives, and how unfair to deprive them of their chance at life.

Palin in Obama out...
Plan and simple the MSM, The Left, the Euroscum, and the rest of the simple minded masses needed somebody else to hate other than themselves and Bush. Now that Bush is out and will be riding into the sunset in less than 4 months, time to hate Palin.

Rememeber hate motivates these people. It does not matter how many stories of love of family, country and GOD they hear, it is the hatred in THEIR souls for THEMSELVES that drives THEM.
K.G. writes: Sunday, September, 14, 2008 11:46 AM
Thanks, Neo and Kermit
And I neglected to mention the military. The Left hates a strong military, which in their view just goes around making trouble.

Palin, with her son proudly serving and her support of the troops, represents another thing the Lefties loath.

In just two weeks, an obscure woman whom virtually no one had ever heard of (except a few of us here), has the whole world loving or hating her.

This is way bigger than Palin.

Amen K.G. . . .
. . . . really an awesome post. Palin represents the division that is America. I for one am tired of the leftist elites looking down on me and the way I CHOOSE to live my life. This is why Sarah Palin is "catching fire." Is she perfect? Of course not. But am I???? Not a chance. But I feel we have a chance with McCain and Palin in the office, moreso than with Barak and all his Soros-sponsored buddies.
K.G. writes: Sunday, September, 14, 2008 10:45 AM
The "World's" and the MSM's Antipathy..
...toward Palin is amazing and in a way terrifying. Whatever Palin hereself is or is not, (nobody's perfect) in two weeks she has become a symbol of the struggle between Right and Left, and, in many ways, dare I say, right and wrong.

Members of the entertainment industry and MSM mock, scoff and even express visceral hatred for Palin. And it's not only that she is a political threat. There is way more to it than that. She is an existential threat.

She clarifies the division between the real Two Americas: clean v. corruption, simplicity v. nuance, life v. death, fertility v. barrenness, real life education v. Ivy League indoctrination, American self-reliance v. European socialism, individual freedom v. collectivism, Jesus Christ v. Saul Alinsky, who dedicated Rules for Radicals to Satan, the "first radical."

2Cents, please take another look at this. To the World, Palin is a symbol of you, your 8 kids and what you are trying to teach them. When they attack and diminish her, they attack and diminish you.

Palin might be as you say; on the other hand she could be Esther. A little humility is in order.

Special children
I watched the most amazing commercial on TV tonight. It took place at a kind of Special Olympics track meet, where there were about a half dozen runners, all with varying degrees of Down Syndrome.

One young man tore off around the curve and established a large lead. It looked as if he were headed to an easy victory.

But then he stumbled, and lay prone on the track as the other runners approached and prepared to pass him.

One young lady slowed when she reached the downed runner. She helped him up. The other runners approached and they all joined hands across the track and crossed the finish line together.

It was an amazing moment.

I wish I could remember the organization that sponsored it. But if my reaction was anything like the normal response, it will be broadcast often during this campaign season.

It underscores why these are, truly, "Special Children"

2cents: Palin Is NOT a Stay-at-Home Mom
It is what it is. Her children are not your problem; they are her problem.

My children are my problem and I believe they are way better off with Mack in office than Obama.

It's bugging you that Palin is not nor can she be all that they are touting her to be. Superman or Superwoman is a myth. Even Gloria Steinem, when asked some 20 years after the Woman's Lib movement, if women can really have it all. "No," she said, "We lied."

A "pure politician" is an oxymoron and you're as likely to find pure politician as you would a virgin in a whorehouse.

Calm down. People will come to their senses soon enough. In the meantime, we have an election to win and elections are won on illusion.

Women who are voting
Check out this post on AOL:

http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/09/13/mccain-pay s-female-staffers-better-than-obama/

It says McCain pays his female staffers $1.04 for every $1.00 he pays his male staffers. Obama only pays his female staffers $0.83 for every $1.00 his male staffers make. Yet Obama is running on the equal pay platform. Once again Obama talks the talk but McCain walks the walk.

It also says that McCain has more women in more influential positions than Obama. If there is any truth to this at all the McCain campaign is CRAZY not to have ads on it everywhere. And women are CRAZY not to vote for McCain.

3 very special kids
First - I doubt "my2centsplus - mother of 8" has a clue on what she is talking about. Hard family stuff is what has brought that family together. How would she have any knowledge of what Sarah did during hard times. People forget too that there will be one parent at home to help with the kids. Obvious another liberal making stuff up.

I have 2 friends and 1 in-law family that had a child born with severe medical conditions. I believe they all knew in advance of the conditions and told the child would not live long. They all had their babies and one is still alive, the other two died at age 7 and 4. While they bring much special needs the special love they have brought to the families are amazing. Challenges in what ever form they come bring you strength.

In our church we do not baptize a child until they reach the "age of accountability" meaning they are old enough to know right from wrong. Any child that dies before the age of 8 AND those with mental conditions like Downs, we believe they will automatically make it to the highest level in heaven. They came to earth not for their needs to be tested but to test us and help us grow.

I am a mother of 8
And I do not like, nor do I admire Ms. Palin. I feel she is not a mother to her children, when they need her. She is typical of those that like to talk a good talk, show the pictures of the family, but when the real hard family stuff comes up, she's AWOL.

I don't buy into the Palinpabumn. I have taught my daughters to get an education, and be good wives and mothers and after kids gone, career can call you. SarahPalin is a opportunist. If you fall for it, your just as dumb as the rock she's hiding her dirt under.

The End
Barack Hussein Obama must withdraw from the Presidential race and forfeit the election because of his ongoing conspiracies and attempts to overthrow, and counseling, aiding and abetting others to overthrow, the government of United States of America by acts of subversion, infiltration, and insurgency in or about Chicago, Illinois, while acting as a covert Marxist propagandist, agitator and indoctrinator, under the cover of community organizer. His acts are “high crimes and misdemeanors,” within their Constitutional meaning, and disqualify him from the office of President. His acts, and those of his co-conspirators, are also actionable under criminal law.

Why do all the wonderful and loving comments on liberal AND conservative sites come mostly from the right and rarely if ever from the left? All I see from the left are mean-spirited, childish, and utterly despicable language. The left is so angry all the time, apparently so very unhappy with their lives. How sad for them.

A Powerful & Heartfelt, Soulful Letter
Amen, Brother. Thanks, Hugh, for posting it here.

Sarah is Lighting Up The Sky with her incandescent voltage. Just magical! My energized wife ran into a couple of Democrat Women friends at our trendy little Farmers Market here in Winter Park Florida, this a.m. They are ladies in their 50s and never vote anything but Democrat. They reported that they are voting for McPalin and, further, that they're not being quiet & subdued about it. I'm LUVING this.

SARAH A WONDERFUL INSPIRATION TO MOTHERS
I worked hard to have Hillary elected. Frankly, partly because of Gender, it was the womens turn and she was certainly qualified and ready! Now I want to fight for the great Lady Sarah! Mostly because she represents the best in all human beings. A genuine caring, sincere, loving, trusting child of God. Let no man stand against one of Gods own, Sara, a gift from God! The anti Clinton attack dogs got away with their disrespect and Sexist bullying of Hill, a good Senator and Mother but not this time! May God protect Sarah and we thank Him for opening that door. To the man who lost his precious wife,
may God grant you peace in this life and joyous life with her and sons in the next existence.

What a bright light of love amid your sorrow. Your love for her shines bright and clear.

Little children, elderly parents, and everybody inbetween, we all have a right to walk on the sidewalk of life for our alloted minutes or years. We don't have the right to kill out of convenience or embarassment.

Is the major life test to see if we will treat each other with scorn and rejection or with service and compassion? I hope we pass this life test as individuals and as a nation.

It matters how we live our lives and how we treat each other. Your view of God/deity/faith may be different from mine. You may have even lost faith that there is a benign God of any description. But I doubt if you have lost the core belief that integrity and kindness are critical to being a mature person.

Let us control the climate of this election by using facts, tact, and persistence without becoming divided as a conservative base (of many differnt faiths and belief systems).

John and Sarah represent strong leadership and good character. Let's unite to support their team.
