Debate Wrap Up Thoughts
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 10:31 PM
Sarah Palin was shaky at times tonight, but never lost her footing. She even managed to trip up her debate veteran opponent Joe Biden on occasion.

And, wow, what a closing statement. (With the surprise invitation to have more events...?!?!)

Ironically, Palin was at her strongest debating Biden on foreign policy, the very subject of which he is considered an expert. Palin deftly reminded viewers, over and over, Biden had openly criticized Barack Obama’s positions on the war, funding and withdrawal throughout the Democratic primaries. “I watched those debates, so I know what that was about,” she grinned. She knowingly gave the media an open invitation to replay those old tapes against the contradictory statements Biden made this evening.

At another point she fiercely labeled Obama’s withdrawal plan, “the white flag of surrender” and promised John McCain knows how to win. Gutsy.

On the negative side, she awkwardly ducked a question on complex bankruptcy law and dodged a few other questions that appeared to be over her head. Instead, she referred to her extensive experience in the energy industry and status as a reformer. Not a bad distraction.

Going into this debate there was concern moderator Gwen Ifill may not treat the candidates fairly because of the financial stake she has in a yet-to-be released book about Obama’s impact on race and politics. I did not detect any outright bias and believe her questions were fair at first blush.

Although the media may not give Palin the “win” outright, she can be proud of her performance. Most importantly, she did not violate the time-honored vice presidential rule: “First do no harm.”  That’s a win in itself.

After all, as Palin said, “How long have I been here, like five weeks?”

Kudos, Governor.

Gwen Ifill was terrible.
Biden fell from blunder to blunder. He was truly incoherent. Ifill called him on nothing. So, what good is Ifill?

Biden Tells 14 Lies During VP Debate
by Amanda Carpenter 10-3 , check this out for lies told by Biden and unreported by the media.
If this were Palin they would be in CAPITAL LETTERS everywhere.
Biden also misstated about Katies' Diner in Wilmington, Del., it has been closed for 20 YEARS!
Many of Biden and Obambi's comments go unchallenged by the media while everyting McCain/Palin says is reviewed with a microscope and still the facts are getting out.
Middle America is seeing through the lies of the media and will triumph with the truth.
Clinton promised a middle class "tax cut" and very soon after being elected raised taxes, Obambi will do likewise.

Dodging Questions
About dodging questions: I want all the people who are so sensitive to Gov. Palin's dodging question to take a note pad to next week's president debate and count how many times both Sen. Obama and McCain dodge questions in their debate. Then come back and apologize for your sexist remarks. The only reason you are talking about dodging question is because you have nothing else to talk about - Gov. Palin was great.

How can America pass on McCain?
I don't care about the debate. But it's pretty amusing that Palin was able to stand toe to toe with Joe Biden, the 36 year veteran of the Senate.

In the end it's about Barack Obama and John McCain. McCain is an American hero and truly a decent and honorable man. I'm not sure what the heck Obama is. All he does is spew lofty ideals while reading from a teleprompter. There isn't much else.

Horny?
But it's perfectly fine for Mas. Alasaka to wink and smirk her way through scripted rambling answers.

America saw Palin last night and is not going to put this "aw shucks I only been here for 5 weeks" sportscaster into power. Especially if she thinks she gets to be Dick Vader Cheney Part 2.

But I love the mass delusion here. It's so gosh darn cute.

Biden's Horney not Presidential
What's with Biden rubbing Palin's arm.. That was just creepy. I don't want another President or Vice President in office that is more interested in satisfing parts of his anatomy over running the country. It would be nice to have a VP with his hands on the wheel not rubbing on the opposite sex. If he couldn't concentrate last night on the country over his own urges what's he going to be like in office

Yvonne writes: Friday, October, 03, 2008 10:33 AM
Sarah Won!
How any one can say that Biden won must have been watching a different debate. Sarah called him out on things he said that were not accurate. What is needed is a fact checker and if a candiate is not correct a crawl across the screen informing and correcting a statement.

Seeing Sarah at work last night it is no wonder she has such a high rating in Alaska. If she sees dishonesty she goes after it, be it a republican or a democrate.

She covered energy last night as being something she really knew, and that is just one of the problems that will be facing the next admistration.

Hands down Sarah walked away with it last night.

The Real Issues -- IGNORED
We have had two (so-called) serious debates between the candidates on the pressing and distressing issues facing the American people.

And the two MOST SERIOUS issues have NOT ONCE EVEN BEEN ADDRESSED. We can directly trace every current American crisis we face to ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION or ABORTION!!

Everything issue from taxes to crime to social security to healthcare to racial problems to the advance of radical Islam and yes, even this mortgage/banking crisis is related to illegal immigration.

Our spiritual, moral and sexual weaknesses, the advance of radial Islam and the illegal immigration problem can be directly traced to 35 years of infant holocost.

Does either party care about solving our country's serious problems?? Then they must not ignore the root causes!!!

The biggest lies in this campaign have been the truths left untold.

Does It Matter
Governor Palin did fine, but does it matter? This election is over. For some reason that I just can't understand, the American people want change and they believe Obama is the one to bring it. A Democrat in the White House and Congress controlled by the Democrats. The American people will get what they think they want, lets see in four years if they still think the same way.

Counter Attack
Palin dodged the bailout type issues because she does not want to say anything that will foul up the counter attack that will be mounted against the Dems as soon as the bailout gets passed.

McCain has been silent far to long on Dem responsibility for part of the financial mess. The banking system has not been working right since the Dems stopped the McCain reforms of Freddie and Fannie.

The banks gave mortgages to everyone who could breath and sign because they knew Freddie and Fannie would buy them.

Ifill had one point
I thought was biased, when she cut off Palin just as the Governor was finally rapidly mentioning which regulations McCain was for. Ifill could have waited 10 more seconds there. Then again that was just about 90 seconds after the Gov said she didn't care if the moderator had an issue with her responses, so maybe that stung Ifill.

the real point
Biden made false statements about mccains votes, what dont they realize there is a record, or do they just think oh well the media is on our side so no one will know.As for his foriegn policy, I think the real big GAFF was when he so eloquently defended his fight to inter into a war in bosnia to save lives and his wish to do the same in darfur to save lives, but when it comes to iraq, its a different story, lives there are not important only weapons, Im sorry but to my mind it sounds typical, only dems have the answer no one else is ever right but them and when its wrong then its always someone elses fault. Not only did palin win on style, but biden loses for lying about facts and changing for obama after he was chosen by the ONE.

Shelly - Obama Doctrine is worse.....
I know how disappointed you are about McCain's support of the bill. I too wish he did not support it because IT STINKS. However, voting for Barak means you'll increase spending with over 845 billion (and that was before the bail out plan). Bush's doctrine is not good BUT McCain is not Bush. On any given day, if you are uncomfortable with the bail out on principle, not voting McCain will give you 8 years (Barak would be re-elected) of the biggest expansion of federalism and socialism you've ever imagined. 700 billion is enough - Vote McCain_Palin.

foreign policy advisor to a lying about his record.

I think Palin did well on foreign policy as well. Those who criticize her say she gave memorized answers. I thought she gave character and judgement answers. I have no doubt she loves america and would what ever it takes to protect us. Regardless of the political fallout!

If liberals want to talk about memorizing foreign policy...they better look at Obama.

6:1 Rebattle Opportunities for Biden
Gwen displayed her favoritism, not with a frown like Charlie or asking specific for specific McCain regulatory laws like Couric, but by giving Biden a 6:1 opportunity for rebattle. She saw her guy tanking under Governor Palin barracuda's straight talk and she decided to do what most americans wouldn't notice - facilitate on behalf of Joe. And yet, Governor Palin - stood her ground.

GOVERNOR PALIN CHANGED MY VOTE TO MCCAIN
Finally, a candidate who understands what it is like to be a middle class American. Governor Palin is middle America, and she is also a savvy stateswoman. She had a command of foreign policy, economics and energy... and yet, she sprinkled in her personal story with convincing credibility. It was hard for me to buy Senator Biden's middle America story when I saw his huge house on t.v. the day he was announced VP.

Palin missed opportunity
When Biden was talking about how he changed the way he the he dealt with judicial nominees and he decided to apply a litmus test base on "judicial philosophy". He mentioned that he did this while he was Chairman of the Judicial committee when Judge Bork was nominated to the Supreme Court.

Who better than Sarah Palin to empathize with Judge Bork in recent history. The reason being the same. They believe in the right to life!

Results
While I agree that given the situation and 5 week learning curve, Palin outperformed her expectations, but missed some opportunities that I bet she won't in a year or two. The Dem ticket order just doesn't feel right. Biden made a better case for him to be President than Obama, especially when he discussed the role he would take.

It's all moot, they am what they am....the ones we've been waiting for

Congratulations to Biden
Congratulations to Home Depot for getting a free plug from Joe Biden. Can we find out just how often this US servant shows up at his Home Depot? I always don't appreciate spitting contests and I had to suffer through Joe and Sarah's spitting contest at how common they were and how much they know common people. Heck you would think common people were a separate race altogether. Bottom line is we can't pick our parents and we can't pick where we were raised. We CAN pick who sets our moral compass.

Democrats repeatedly deny the nation's moral compass comes from the Jews AND the most famous Jew of all.

Sarah won the debate. Biden showed he was a human being with an average amount of brokenness in his life. I will vote for McCain-Palin w/o hestitation.

Ticket orders mixed up
I kind of felt sorry for Biden. After watching the debate last week, and the one tonight, I thought the tickets are mixed up. Clearly, a much better debate if the issue is namedropping, and a Senate history would have been between Biden and McCain.

Overall, I was a little nervous, noticed Palin did better as she went along and finished strong. Couple of things we thought were funny:

On windfall profits tax: Joe Biden said she DID what he and Obama WANTED to do. Action vs. talk.

Biden commented "I'm not going to change...."

She really threw a curve when she brought up what she did again by pulling Alaska's investments out of the Sudan. That one took me by surpise.

My Earlier Comment On Gwen
October 2, 2008
I absolutely agree that Gwen did an excellent job tonight. She was totally unbiased and consummately professional. My earlier comment tonight before the debates was quarrelsome and I regret expressing anger at any time however I still emphasize that although Gwen did not exhibit any improper treatment of the candidates, the ends do not justify the means. I will stand on my personal requirement for moderators that have no ties to candidates in the debates. Tonight's much ado about nothing was kind of like a push.
