On Florida Gov. Crist's McCain Endorsement
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 7:33 PM

As Jon noted, Florida Governor Charlie Crist has endorsed Sen. John McCain for President ...

This is very, very big.  Gov. Crist has amazingly high approval ratings.  His approval numbers are somewhere near like in the 70s ...

... On a side note, nobody remembers this anymore, but a year ago, the Giuliani campaign blamed Crist when Rudy's campaign "lost" a copy of their campaign strategy playbook.  Not sure if that's relevant, but I thought I'd bring it up ...

We've still got a few days to go, but I have to believe the endorsement of Sen. Martinez -- and now the Governor of Florida -- give McCain tremendous momentum going into Tuesday.

How much do you think Jeb's endorsement would be worth right about now???

VOTE FOR FRED
VOTE FOR FRED

Fred Thompson has withdrawn from the race for president. Fred Thompson is still our choice. Fred Thompson, a young attorney working for the justice department, hand picked by Ronald Reagan, helped defend some of our choices to vote for “the Republican,” Richard Nixon. Fred Thompson, as a senior Republican diplomat, left us with a coherent interpretation of our conservative views. Fred Thompson gave us a conservative focus that allowed us to find a new interpretation of ourselves as Republicans. Fred crafted thoughts and opinions into simple effective coherent statements and published those, point by point on his website as a primer to assist in finding our way as a nation. Fred has set an example and laid the groundwork for the next generation Conservative.

Fred Thompson’s withdrawal from the race for president is not about your pain or your anger; we’ve all been there at one time or another. This is about us and our mutual decision to choose Fred Thompson, a committed conservative to lead. Fred owes us nothing. We don’t owe Fred. We do have a responsibility to ourselves to be responsible for our own decisions. We can’t blame someone else if we are not happy.

Fred Thompson is still on the ballot in many if not all states. Fred Thompson is still a viable choice for president. This is chess not checkers. A unified vote would give Fred the choice at the convention and would prevent second choices from looking more powerful than they deserve.

Vote your principals, GIVE FRED DELAGATES IN THE CONVENTION, no need to waste the signs, keep them up as a symbol of principal. We now have a responsibility to choose again, as for me, I’m going to vote for Fred if his name is on the ballot.

The right to choose cost some of our fellow citizens, countrymen and family the ultimate price. Our price for our right to choose based on our principals is one vote.

VOTE FOR FRED…

Say to no to McSamnesty, say no to McStaright-talk, say no the the establishment McRobots, say no McBull, and by al means don't enhale the McCrack. McCain (D-lite) Can't Win

The Stupid Party

The RNC wants an amnesty candidate.

Another amnesty will result in Democrat majorities for decades, or until they are supplanted by the La Raza Party, why doesn't the RNC know that? How stupid do you have to be to import voters for the opposition at the same time you alienate your own voters? Nominating any of the amnesty trio (McCain, Huckabee, Rudy) is a losing proposition, we will not support them. If the GOP intends to surrender our sovereignty and abandon the rule of law, they will find in November 2008, that they still have their big money/cheap labor donors, but they do not have voters. What Crist says is meaningless to most Floridians. His favorable rating is in the tank these days! He is a one term governor at best, as far as im concerned he is full of HOT AIR!!
orlandocajun writes: Monday, January, 28, 2008 9:51 AM
Dumb decision...
I sent Crist an email assuring him that I will not be voting for him for his second term and that I will do what I can to convice everyone I know to do the same. One would think that after watching Mel Martinez allienate the entire conservative base in Florida, Crist might have been smart enought to sit this one out. He may have scored with Hispanics, but they're still a small minority in Floirda and most are Democrats anyway.

The establishment have really mobilized this election for McCain. The MSM, the RNC and even the DNC are behind him. Yet, he still fails to be the clear front-runner. Once Huckabee and Guillani are out, McCain will be 20 points behind romney. I don't buy the "Mormon" stigma. If religion won't be a factor for Obama (his pastor is a lunatic) or Hillary (doesn't have a pastor) then I can't see religion being an issue for him.

If McCain get the nomination, I will vote for the Democrat in order to try and preserve the Republican brand. At least after four years of screwing up this country, Republicans may finally see the danger in electing socialists and RINOs.
Oregon Elephant writes: Sunday, January, 27, 2008 9:43 PM
McCain looked TERRIBLE on MTP...
He swayed in the wind when confronted about contradicting himself on the tax cuts (and on the fact that he oriniginally objected to them because he thought they were skewed to the wealthy, unlike what he's claiming now). He also looked very politician-y when confronted with his quotes about not knowing the economy as well as he should. I saw Romney on CNN with Blitzer and Wold pretty much let Romney run with his message, whereas McCain got grilled. Good sunday for Mitt.

And I really don't think endorsements mean that much...so far this year, voters haven't really paid much attention to them (McCain got all the endorsements in Michigan, and Obama supposedly got the endorsement to guarantee him a win in Nevada)...I guess we'll find out in a few days.

McCain
is best for the country from the Republican side. He's got character and the ability to lead, and garners respect from most Americans. He can also work with the other guys, to get things done that badly need done in the America of today. The same is true of Barak Obama on the Democratic side.
Xine writes: Sunday, January, 27, 2008 6:00 PM
Good question
I look at endorsements, but usually only to make sure that someone odious is not endorsing my candidate. If La Raza or Mel Martinez is endorsing someone then I'm not likely to vote for that candidate. I don't know how other people use endorsements though. I'd be interested to see how much endorsements impact campaigns in general...

There are many in Florida who do not need Charlie Crist's endorsement of McCain to make up their minds. I am one of them. I have already voted for Romney and would regardless of who Crist endorses.

The Republican machine is supporting McCain because McCain supports special corporate interests and cheap labor for corporations. He will turn this country into the NAU for sure, and will be a disaster for the USA.
I am RIGHT writes: Sunday, January, 27, 2008 6:11 AM
McCain is a liberal
New York Times endorses McCain - ENOUGH SAID!

Actually, there is a few more things to say...

First item:

Question: When does a liberal editorial board support and endorse a Republican?

Answer: When that Republican agrees with them.

Remember and never forget the following:

The liberal media support Republicans that agree with them and who they can destroy with ease later, but they attack immediately what they fear and can’t control.

If you fit their agenda you will be cuddled. McCain has fit their agenda for many years. They don’t fear McCain because they can control McCain, why...you ask? Because he is one of them.

Second Item:

Bill Clinton says that Hillary and McCain get along great and respect each other very much.

Lets do some math:

New York Times endorsement + Hillary and McCain as buddies + positive comment from Bill + buddies with Liberal Liberman + buddies with Liberal Kerry + buddies with Liberal Kennedy + author of many Liberal supported bills = McCain is a Liberal

Third item:

Once you remove his pro war stance and his pro-life stance (by the way, when was he ever at a pro-life march?) ...what is remaining: A liberal. His carefully selected conservative positions and his promoted war record is his cloak to fool conservatives. Look at his actions, look at his liberal friends, look at his endorsements, look at his philosophically confused liberal legislation...these things reflect the true McCain.

I respect McCain for his service to this country, but the McCain of today is running out of conservative clothes to hide his liberal body.

McCain can not be trusted with picking constructionist judges and supporting the conservative agenda.

Vote for positive change. Vote for Rudy or Romney.

- I am RIGHT -

Of course Voters are free to vote for whomever they want. If you don't like that a candidate ties his tie with a full Windsor knot or wears his hair in a reverse Mohawk more power to you. That is a form of bigoty however. You can even be a more insidious type of bigot and vote against someone that believes in a different Religion than you. Your still a bigot and that flies in the face of the US Constituion and the Declaration of Independance that established the groundwork for this Country (that you don't live in). Thankfully, the issue of Civil Rights based on color, race etc... has been fought and won for the most part (which one reason why Obama is doing so well). People rightly view judging someone on the color of the skin as aborhent. Fortunatly most people don't harbor your religios bigotry and try to hold it out as a test for whom they will vote. Agree or disgree on the issues facing the public square and not the personal choices as to how someone choices to or not to believe in God.

Your Catholic. Should a Southern Baptist hold your religion agaisnt you for fear that you will take your marching orders form Rome? Of course not.

For me. I'll ust be bigoted against bigots.

From your ignorant posts, you prove yourself to be the poster child for "bigotry." Romney is running for President (POTUS). There is no "litmus" test of religion in this matter as per the "founding fathers" of this nation. Yet, you are injecting this with your irksome tired reiteration of a volunteer position Mitt Romney once held years ago. Stop wasting our time with your nonsensical mutterings.
Are you merely a Democrat or ultra-liberal Republican (RINO) in conservative clothing? Obviously you are playing to the evangelical misgivings expressed toward Mormonism.
Know this, if Romney is not the choice of Republicans for the nomination, McCain will lose to either Hillary or Obama in a landslide, we will lose any hope for Supreme Court judges that will overturn Roe v. Wade, and a myriad of other crucial value-issues will be decided negatively to the extreme detriment of our great Nation.
But then, as a Democrat or RINO, that is probably what you want.
If elected, Mitt Romney will be the greatest President we have had since George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. It he is elected, we will all see this statement is true.

Romney as bishop
It's not derogatory to refer to Romney as a bishop, but it is misleading, since he is no longer serving in that capacity. I'm not sure why someone would call it his vocation. He was asked (or 'called') by his local stake president to serve as a bishop, did so for several years (all the while keeping his real vocation, or 'day job'), and no longer serves in that role.

He doesn't currently exercise any of the authority of a bishop in the LDS church, so this is really a non-issue. Even if he were a bishop, that authority only extends to a very limited geographical area. I think part of the misunderstanding is in the difference between what it means to be a bishop in the LDS church and being a bishop in other churches.

Vote for Ron Paul
Although Paul has great ideas it is between Romney and McCain - who will be President. McCain is a Socialist. I have followed his voting record for 20 years: pro-amnesty, pro-illegal immigration, pro-federal spending, pro-no border fence, pro-tax raises; pro-federal employee increase, anti-defense spending (DOD, troops pay raises etc.). McCain/Feingold has created a situation whereby no one from the middle class can run for office. McCain is a Globalist, One World Order, Global Warming, tax spending socialist. There are NO Regan conservatives left. McCain is not the answer. Unless ALL of the current House Reps & Senate is voted OUT, Ron Paul will not have a chance to get any of his ideas passed. So a vote for Ron Paul will guarantee a McCain Victory. So who are you willing to have as President: McCain, Romney, Obama or Hillary?

McCain-Feingold assault on political speech designed to protect incumbents;

McCain-Kennedy amnesty program;

McCain-Lieberman global warming tax and regulation (which will completely cripple American industry);

McCain-Kennedy-Edwards for trial lawyers;

McCain importation of Canadian price caps on drugs (which would cripple pharmaceutical research and development);

McCain opposition to Tax Cuts (that actually raised tax revenues through a better economy);

McCain Gang of 14 that prevented confirmation votes on conservative judicial nominees;

McCain granting of constitutional rights to foreign terrorists or the AlQueda Bill of Rights?

Elections have consequences -- you vote for the guy at the bottom of his class (saved only by the fact that his father and grandfather were admirals) and you get a guy who can't think through or resolve problems. Do You Want To Keep Your Country?
From Pat Buchanan's 1/25/08 column:

In 2004, the voters of Arizona, by 56 percent to 44 percent, enacted Proposition 200, requiring proof of citizenship before an individual may vote or receive state benefits. Forty-six percent of Hispanics voted for Prop. 200, giving the lie to those who say Hispanics support the illegal invasion of their country. Over 190,000 Arizonans petitioned to put Prop. 200 on the ballot. As it simply required proof of citizenship before receiving the benefits and privileges of citizenship, who could oppose it? Answer: the entire GOP congressional delegation, led by Sen. John McCain. This is the same John McCain who battled the border fence and colluded with Teddy Kennedy on the amnesty bill rejected by Congress last year after a national uproar. Bottom line: If the presidential race is between Hillary and Amnesty John, the border security battle is over and lost.

Re: wife,mom,homeeducator
I agree Mitt is a handsome guy. And he says the right things. But I have a tough time believing a guy who obviously only says those things because they are right, and not because he actually believes them himself. His record speaks for itself. It screams of political expediency and opportunism, two of the most despicable characteristics of a seedy politician. I respect your views on Tancredo, he is a great American and fellow. But I'm sorry to say that I believe his loyalty was misguided. Mitt Romney is not the answer to our problems as conservatives, and I view McCain (or any of the other candidates, for that matter) as a better alternative.

What Crist Endorsement is REALLY Worth
I can sum up the value of Charlie Crist's endorsement of John McCain in two words:

JOHN ENGLER

Back in 2000, then-Michigan Governor Engler not only endorsed President Bush, he actually PROMISED to "deliver" Michigan for President Bush in the primary against John McCain.

McCain won the primary; fortunately, he didn't win the GOP nomination!

So much for a state governor's "endorsement".

Onward Christian Soldier McCain!
That was just to annoy the mormon bigots who are insulting the Mc. I heard Mitt tried to get this endorsement, I guess his offer was not as good as Mc's - or maybe, just maybe, not everybody is for sale in the republican party. Power to the people!
bigkam writes: Saturday, January, 26, 2008 8:46 PM
Is this the best Mittbots can do?
Can't you guys come up with some new spin? I mean, we all expected the usual petty insults (I'm partial to McShamnesty, myself) and the crap about how "he's only endorsing McCain because he has dirt on him". You guys are really struggling to spin this one positively for Mittens, and who could blame you. But I'll bet Hugh comes through with some great new spin for us by tomorrow, that makes this seem like the best possible news ever for his buddy, Romney. All eyes are you, Mr. Hewitt. Make it happen!

Besides the fact that he is pleasant to actual look at, I have enjoyed hearing what he has to say and agree with him.

Tom Tancredo endorsing him was a big boost to me, and that would probably make Michael Medved insanely annoyed.

I will never forget the ugly, mean, condescending old grouch McCain during the defeat of his loser amnesty bill, sorry bigkam.

Brianakira,
The only hope of McShamnesty has of getting elected in Novmeber is if his 12 million friends from down south get to vote more than once. Now that I think about it, that's what he is counting on next Tuesday. Better learn the words to your new national anthemn, in Spanish...via la Mexico, via amnesty

Open Borders Advocate Advising McCain
John McCain says that he has heard the American people and now understands that we need to secure the border before enacting any “comprehensive” immigration reform. But John McCain has also said that he hasn’t changed his position. He supported amnesty in 2003 by name, proposed it in 2006 and 2007 without calling it amnesty, and says that anyone who says that he ever supported amnesty is a liar. He has insulted Americans who advocate border security and has cursed at the thought of building a border fence. Which of all of these is the real John McCain? The presence of Juan Hernandez in the background of the McCain campaign tells me that John McCain is as weak on border security now as he ever was.Old school Hot Air readers might remember Dr. Juan Hernandez. He’s a dual citizen of the US and Mexico, was a member of Vicente Fox’s government, and is as open borders as you can get. In December 2006, Michelle hosted the Factor and the producers decided to see what it would be like to put her and Hernandez on the show together. “Chummy” does not describe the atmosphere.

Holy crap, what are we doing to our party? Please tell me that Floridians will not fall for this extorted garbage. Can anyone tell me of one public figure or politician that supports Romney that has ulterior motives? No, because the ones that support Romney are sticking their necks out for what is right. No Amnesty Candidates

If Bush had secured the border on September 12, 2001 and actually enforced employer sanctions vigorously and consistently since then, we'd be talking about a much smaller problem and many more would be willing to listen to some kind of compromise. It is the complete lack of enforcement that has doubled this problem in the last six years that exposes the deceitful attempt at forcing us into another amnesty by flooding the country with illegal aliens. The cynical way we are told we will not get border security or enforcement until we give them amnesty and a guestworker program is sickening. We won't be fooled again. We remember 1986. No amnesty/regularization/guestworker until we see ACTUAL fences and ACTUAL enforcement. Let's try that for a few years, then we'll talk.
Virginia Patriot writes: Saturday, January, 26, 2008 8:20 PM
No Border Security/No National Security

We the People of the United States of America have the right to have our borders and our laws respected and enforced.
If we wish to keep our representative Republic, and our rule of law, we must elect a President who WILL secure the borders and enforce the laws. The actions of the next President will determine the fate of this great nation. If citizenship becomes meaningless, this will no longer be the United States of America.

The primary responsibility of the U.S. government is to protect the territorial integrity and people of this country. They have completely abdicated this responsibility. Both parties have been complicit in this. We are being told it is not possible to control our borders, enforce our laws, and thereby control our destiny as a nation. Hogwash. We are being sold out by corporations intent on importing workers for jobs that can't be exported with the taxpayers paying the true costs, financial and human. If we act like sheep and don't stop the inundation across our borders, we will lose our country without a bleat.

nobody believes he is an outsider and agent of change. First, he stole the whole change agent message from Obama. Second, being advised by lobbysts while campaigning hardly makes him an outsider. While he denies it, the free advise he is getting from lobbysts will cost americans when he needs to pay back in policy influence, should anybody be stupid enough to make him president. Mitt will be outside the whitehouse, then he can really be an outsider without any lobbysts to pay back. Do Romniacs think americans are stupid?

Eagleburger and Woolsey on Mitt Romney
In launching the ad the McCain campaign also released a statement from U.S. Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger and former CIA Director R. James Woolsey:

"We couldn't disagree more with Governor Romney's recent suggestion that foreign policy experience really doesn't matter when it comes to evaluating who should be our next president and commander in chief. America is at war. Our military forces are engaged in Iraq, in Afghanistan and elsewhere against a determined, vicious enemy. We are facing serious challenges, in a nuclear-armed Pakistan, in Latin America with the rise of Hugo Chavez, and in other corners of the globe. In such dangerous times, John McCain has the necessary experience and judgment to strengthen our national security and lead our nation and allies. He has had extensive contact with foreign leaders and military officials. John McCain has been on the ground in many of the world's hot spots, including several trips to Iraq and Afghanistan, and also the tribal areas of Waziristan. As an ex-Navy pilot and POW, he understands first-hand how political decisions in Washington impact those serving in our Armed Forces. On Iraq, John McCain's experience and judgment served him well. For years, despite public opinion, he called for a surge of forces and a new strategy in Iraq to prevail against our enemies -- a strategy that is now succeeding. In contrast, Governor Romney, with no national security experience, was a follower on Iraq, while John McCain showed strong leadership and vision."

Eagleburger on Mitt Romeny
"The next President of the United States must be a leader of courage, not a weather vane who shifts in the wind. John McCain will not waver in the face of the enemy. He's been tested under fire in war and did not wilt on Iraq when the polls went south and the drumbeat for withdrawal grew louder. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Governor Romney. When it came to unequivocally advocating and supporting the successful surge in Iraq, John McCain was rock solid while Governor Romney sought political cover by indicating his support for secret' withdrawal timetables. At a critical moment, John McCain proved that he was ready to be Commander in Chief. Unfortunately, Governor Romney didn't. Governor Romney failed the test of leadership on the most crucial national security issue facing the United States with American combat forces in the field; he wilted. John McCain stood tall."

Virginia Patriot , we the people still
get to influence the immigration issue, like we did the last time. Remember congress and Bush were ready to sign the bill, until we the people told them how we felt and that we wanted the border closed first before deciding what to do with the millions who are in the country. The immigration issue is important to all americans, in all socio-economic levels and across all races (including mexican immigrants) so I would not worry too much about open borders. What is critical is that we have a president who can handle the jihadist issue and keep a pro-life culture in washington. These two issues are about life and once life is destroyed, changing laws can't bring it back. FYI, how about blaming Reagan for a failed immigration policy instead of blaming McCain because we disagree on how he is trying to solve the problem created by Reagan?

Oh my, the hits just keep on rolling for McCain...the NY Times, Martinez, Bubba, and now Crist. With a string of endorsements like that he's sure to win the Democrat nomination in the US, or selection by unanimous decision in Mexico. Hell, let's just make him King of North America. Via la Mexico!

sara, it's simple 80/20 rule
McCain has some policy problems i.e. he takes a different approach than most republicans 20% of the time. However, 80% of the time he takes the republican perspective. Mitt is confused about what he believes, when he believes it, for how long he believes it and who wants him to stop believing it. McCain's consistency to reach across the aisle might make some republicans uneasy but Mitt's half-truths, and inconsistencies make voters more uneasy. Even if Mitt wins florida (which I doubt), he won't get the south and big states. Sorry Sarah - Mitt is unelectable and his positions are for political expediency.

Hugh likes Mitt for the same reason a lot of us do, he's a decent human being, something Mccain isn't.Mccain is a typical liberal who thinks it's his turn based on seniority just like government employees, not on merit.

So glad Obama won. I'll be supporting him if Mccain is the GOP nom and I'm as hard a right winger as you'll find in this country. I'm a mine the border kind of conservative. What the lying punk Mccain is doing to win this race is beyond the pale.

One other note
I posted my thoughts a little earlier about the GOP getting a candidate before the Dems (who look like they'll be fighting into the summer after tonight). I think this is a huge reason for the support being thrown behind McCain; if they let Romney win on Tues., that means the fight for the nomination likely drags on until the convention, which none of us should want. Could explain why both Crist and Martinez got involved late in the game in Florida.

John McCain's Man

Smiling Juan Hernadez
We know who he is, we know his loyalties are to Mexico, we know he wants to erase our borders and immigration laws.

JOHN MCCAIN, YOU NEED A NEW HEARING AID

Smiling Juan Hernandez
In case you don't know him, he used to work for the Mexican govt., lately he has been shilling for "rights" for illegal aliens in this country. He has said he wants Mexicans to remain Mexicans even if they are living here. His loyalties are to Mexico, not U.S.

Questions for illegal apologists like John McCain:

Why does The National Council of the Race (la raza in spanish) and the Chamber of Commerce get to negotiate a "Comprehensive Shafting of The American Citizens" behind closed doors? Since when does an organization representing foreign nationals breaking our laws get to rewrite our immigration laws to suit the lawbreakers? Isn't this akin to allowing NAMBLA to rewrite our laws regarding child predators? Or allowing organized crime syndicates to rewrite racketeering, gambling, prostitution, and extortion laws?

We The People are being told by our representatives that we should sit down and shut up while they invite in the entire world. We The People should get some say in this matter. Another amnesty will set off a stampede like we have never seen before. There is not much time to save our country. All the money and power are on the side of shoving this amnesty down our throats. The RNC wants an amnesty candidate, don't vote for one.
Virginia Patriot writes: Saturday, January, 26, 2008 7:49 PM
GOP-RIP?
The Republican Party under GWB seems intent on political suicide. Pandering to citizens of other countries illegally in our country while telling us we must be vigilantes if we object to illegal aliens ignoring our borders and laws. Mel Martinez was RNC Chairman to ensure an open borders candidate in '08. The cheap labor express will be kept running, regardless of the consequences, to party or country. GOP-RIP

Obviously the republican establishment machine is twisting a lot of arms down there and it's a damn shame.Martinez and Crist have both said they were going to be neutral./ I just wonder of some Soros money has leaked it's way into swaying these two.I just hope republicans down there don't fall for this and reject machine politics.The Dems just rejected the Clinton machine and gave Obama a big victory in SC. We need the same from republican voters. I'd bet anything there's some Laraza/Soros money involved in this.The Romney campaign has to be walking around with a knife in their heart right now.

I don't know anyone who makes their decision based on who some other politician endorses. Looks like McCain is getting desperate though and had to call in a few favors, because both Christ and Martinez had stated that they would not endorse anyone.
