McCain & Obama Court Hispanic Voters
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 5:29 PM
The AP reports:

"The two spoke separately to some 700 Hispanics attending the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials conference. It's the first of three such appearances each is scheduled to make to Hispanic organizations in less than a month, underscoring the importance of the nation's fastest-growing minority group.

Both McCain and Obama were warmly received at NALEO; the crowd gave each standing ovations and cheered loudly. When McCain spoke, the audience shouted down anti-war protesters who interrupted the Republican's speech four times. The audience chanted Obama's name when the Democrat entered later. As he took the stage, Obama said "Si, se puede!" -- his 'yes we can' campaign slogan in Spanish -- and the crowed echoed him."

Who Has This Issue?
First, I seriously doubt Obama will be getting troops out of Iraq any sooner than McCain. If booed at all, both should get it. If only McCain, given the occasion, Obama should have had the decency to say something in rebuke. In all events, these clowns should gather themselves in DC at either the White House or the Capitol, or both. Cowardly.

On the thread, what is McCain's point with this issue? Securing the borders in some manner seems desirable.

There seems to be a need for seasonal agricultural workers because not enough Americans won't perform this kind of work. (Now, I don't know why Congress doesn't create a New Era-type program to ship inner-city youth supposedly unable to find summer employment. Feds could provide some administrative help, but the private sector would employ the youth.) I think I've read that these workers can be handled by temporary worker visas.

Beyond that, why are Latinos who are here legally in favor of the illegals when they seem to drag them down. Same for blacks. And all the way around, why are federal and state taxpayers inclined to pay for health care and education for people who aren't paying income and SS taxes?

Where are the employers in all of this? They get the labor, pay in cash, and avoid all the withholding taxes. At the same time, their communities may (or may not) suffer the consequences of itinerant workers.

And I didn't bother to ask about the crime associated with illegals here just to do that.

Dick Morris says that Obama's health care plan calls for picking up the tab for 15 million illegal aliens.

Why do both candidates seem to be rolling over on this issue?
Tazzmax writes: Saturday, June, 28, 2008 6:55 PM
It's
called, "pandering".

Both of those clowns p*ss me off,...they want taxpayers to pay for all entitlements for illegal aliens,....besides giving amnesty to 15 million criminals!

That's why neither one will get my vote.

Whose Country Is It?

We the People of the United States of America have the right to have our borders and our laws respected and enforced.

Citizens of other countries illegally in our country have no right to demand anything from our government. They most certainly have the right to petition the governments of their home countries for change if they are unhappy with their home country. If they want to be Americans, we have a path to citizenship, more generous than any other nation, and it starts in their home country.

We need to insist on the equal protection, application and enforcement of the law or devolve into anarchy. Our Republic only functions if everyone follows the same rules. We should not change the laws to accomodate those breaking them.

If America annouces to the world "We can't stop you, so come on in" with another amnesty, the deluge will be overwhelming. If 3,000 a day didn't get your attention, then wait until it's 10,000 a day. We cannot sustain this influx and survive as a nation. We must speak up and speak to each other about this and not let false claims of racism or bigotry be used to intimidate us into silent assent. America is not Congress' to give away. America belongs to We the People. Speak to your neighbors, speak to your coworkers, but please speak up to your Congressmen and Senators. It's O.K. for us to enforce our laws, no really, it is.

Someone please tell Sen. McCain.

Si se puede (Yes We Can)

Yes we can:
Ignore your laws.
Enter your country any time we feel like it.
Collect benefits to which we are not entitled.
Tell you what your immigration policies should be.
File thousands of lawsuits to prevent you from enforcing your laws.
Vote in your elections fradulently.
Take your country.

Illegal Aliens ARE NOT Immigrants

Illegal aliens are not immigrants. Immigrants seek our permission first by applying for a visa. They keep their documents in order and comply with our laws. Illegal aliens do not. They sneak across the border and acquire fraudulent I.D. They break many laws to continue their illegal presence in the U.S.
The open borders crowd know that most Americans are predisposed to favor legal immigration. By purposely confusing illegal aliens with (legal) immigrants (really the only kind), the left and the media hope to marginalize those of us who are speaking out against amnesty as being xenophobic, nativist, racist, restrictionist, anti-immigrant bigots. I am not any of those. I am an American citizen whose citizenship means something to him. I like immigrants. I know people from all over the world. I am totally opposed to amnesty for illegal aliens, regardless of where they are from. I am for retaining our rule of law and sovereignty. The debate must center on the willful disregard for the laws of this country. Americans have been a welcoming people. We just want people to respect us, our country, our history, our culture, our language and our laws.

Read this latest Newsweek column by Michael Barone:

http://www.usnews.com/blogs/barone/2008/6/27/is-immigration -a-killer-issue-for-congress.html?s_cid=rss:barone:is-immig ration-a-killer-issue-for-congress

He believes that illegal immigration is so universally unpopular, Congress is unlikely to allow a bill to be introduced before or after the election, regardless of who is elected. The astounding defeat of six-term Utah Republican Chris Cannon has spooked everyone. I guess these guys want to get re-elected.

"The reason is that they (Democrats) fear their caucuses are split that they cannot come up with the votes for a comprehensive bill from Democrats alone, and that (after Cannon's defeat) they can't count on almost any Republican support on crucial votes."

I hope the RINOs here are getting the message. It isn't we who are out of touch extremists, it is they. Now we have to do the same with Cap and Trade. It may very well be that the next president is going to be a caretaker, overwhelmed by the Bush recession that is well underway.

Now back to the RINO fear-mongering and race-baiting.

29% Hispanic Vote For McCain
He's blowing off millions of votes to chase 29% of 6% of the total vote. That amounts to 1.75% of the total vote. Guarantee you that he loses more than that as a result of his insistence on amnesty. It doesn't get an dumber than importing voters for the opposition while you tick off your own voters.

Stupid Party, indeed.

Oops
USNews, not Newsweek.

This tells you a lot about the limits of corporate money corruption once we voters pick up our torches and pitch forks. The new Rahm Emanuel Blue Dogs are a big part of those split Dem caucuses. I have a feeling that we are going to succeed in amputating the head from the GOP. If we could just put an effective gag on that head (or anesthetize it), we wouldn't have to hear the constant fear-mongering and race-baiting. Head amputations are very loud.

We Need to Start...
...a Chris Cannon Society. Any pol who won't come down on the side of border-order...give 'em the boot. Some guy called into Roger Hedgecock today saying, "We can't build a fence all the way from San Ysidro (San Diego) to Brownsville, TX.

Roger took his head off. Yes, we can...do something. Duncan Hunter got his fence built down here, starting out into the Pacific Ocean and going 15 miles east. It's made a HUGE difference.

Yeah, the drug smugs build tunnels...at several million a pop. But we found the tunnels and they ain't cheap.

Duncan also got a law passed which waives environmental laws. So if the dang gnatcatcher can't get across the border because of the wall, lo siento mucho. Too darn bad.

Let Mack pander his head off for 20% of the hispanic vote, but if and when he becomes POTUS, he will take an oath to sustain the laws. And we already have laws on the books to control the border.

Get the National Guard, the Boy Scouts of America, the girls' water polo team, the whole darn Mormon Tabernacle Choir and whoever else it takes down here and make sure people respect and protect the border.

Zetas are now doing home invasions in Phoenix? Give me a break. Maybe that will get some attention. You don't know who the Zetas are? Then don't vote!

Secure Border - It Would Be Nice!
I would like the border secured. Both candidates are quite weak on this issue, but Obama offering driver's license to illegals. No, more rewarding for breaking the law. Secure the border. If you offend people, so be it.

Virginia Patriot: I agree with you. Illegals are not immigrants. My grandmother came over to America. She had to be sponsored, not ill, etc..She also had to learn English before she stepped into a classroom. Far cry from today, especially in CA.

As for the expenses, I am quite tired of it. Our state is on the verge of bankruptcy. Our Gov does not think that the $9 billion we put out each year is denting the deficit. Please!

I work with several people that have come to America through the system. They have become United States citizens. They have family members who have been waiting for years to come to America. They have nothing nice to say about the people that come here illegally and they are constantly signing petitions against illegals and sending to the senators of the state, Feinstein and Boxer.

Sam: I heard Dick Morris talking about Obama's health plan and picking up the tab. In CA, we pretty much do. Some of the hospitals have stopped taking non-insured patients. The can not incur the costs any longer.

Pasadena Phil, Thanks
PP: Thank you for the Barone link. He's very knowledgeable.

I still don't understand why legal Hispanics would be in favor of a candidate who's weak on immigration. After all, they did it the right way and aren't the concerned about being identified with the illegals?

Beyond that, is the Hispanic vote really a monolithic vote? I lived in Miami, and a lot of those Cubans down there a staunch Republicans. I lived there during that Elian mess, and I don't think they're going to forget that for some time.

For McCain haters, how is he any worse than Obama? I tend to think that this is an issue that most Americans have not zeroed in on. That said, I tend to think that when pushed on it, only the very hard left will be interested in amnesty. I don't care what McCain's says now, the public will have a fit if he tries something like that and almost every U.S. representative can expect to lose in two years if they vote along. In the end, I see a stalemate on this issue. Besides, Pelosi and Reid are so ineffective they must have been the kids in kindergarten who always managed to lose their milk and cookies.

And so I'm back to national defense and judicial appointments--and Obama cannot be allowed to handle either.

PP - good link. Some of the comments were quite interesting.

Sam, I am with you that this issue has not been zeroed in on. It seems the candidates don't want to talk about it. I am in a border state and this is an extremely big issue, but it seems to get swept under the rug. It seems if the topic is brought up, it is considered offensive.

I would like the sancuary cities discontinued myself, but I don't see that happening at all.

We have already been shot down in CA when PROP 187 was over whelmingly voted in, but along came the ACLU, Gov Davis, the courts, etc...and poof it was gone.

I think it is wonderful
Isn't it great that people can come to America illegally and get their children to benefit from affirmative action programs at the expense of whites? What a fair policy!

Isn't it great that we give jobs to non-white non-Americans at the expense of whites? Well, all of us whites certainly owned slaves -- or at least someone who looks like us did.

Forget about the fact that slavery still exists in Africa. It is all the fault of "whites."

How much longer will we have to deal with this? Probably at least 50 years. In essence, you cannot repeal affirmative action programs because courts will not let you.

We still have quotas for government contracts, jobs, education jobs and many other areas.

I couldn't give a damn less. McCain better start caring about what White voters think for a change and stop pandering to minorities. In this case, "hispandering".

Arizona and Oklahoma..
..have enforced the laws against hiring illegals. The illegals have left in droves and these states' unemployment rates are down to 4%.

There's plenty of blame to go around beginning with Reagan's amnesty bill (but he failed to secure the border) back in the 80's. Since then Bush I, Clinton and Bush II have turned a blind eye and a deaf ear. Indeed, I believe they have actually encouraged illegal immigration.

I live in San Diego. In the past, US social workers handed out flyers in Tijuana inviting poor mother and children to come up to take advantage of our social services.

I remember talking to an illegal who said (in Spanish) he came because everybody was saying: "They give you free money there (in the US.)"

Back in the 80's my daughter visited Duncan Hunter's office in DC asking that he do something. Nope. Even he was deaf, dumb and blind on this issue.

Now he's all over it. Now that order on the border has become an overwhleming task. And we can expect that neither Barack nor Mack will lift a finger unless the citizens make a huge stink and demand action.

Gotta do it after the election though. Most foreign born legal hispanics originally came here as illegals. They are very sympathic to their countrymen. Indeed, they see us as their rich cousins and we have an obligation to help them.

They are quite angry when we don't see it that way.

A Personal Story
We had an older Forerunner that we decided to only insure for liability. One evening my son parked it in front of traffic school in Chula Vista. When he came out, about 10:00 p.m., the car had been stolen.

Generally, these cars are stolen by the Mexican police as they are not provided cars. We just figured it was gone forever until several months later we received a call from a sheriff's department in Texas that our car was in the possesion of an Ensendada police department.

My husband and I took some cash, about $200, to pay the mordida, (a bribe) and headed down to Ensendada. After looking around every police station we found our car, loaded with guns.

We went to the station, found the officer who was using our car, paid the mordida, but remembered we had forgotten the keys. Not to worry. The officer pulled out a ring with perhaps a hundred keys. Found one that fit.

We were on our way (after he removed the guns, of course). My husband had one heck of a time getting the "stolen car" back across border though.

My perspective on the Hispanic vote is probably skewed because I know lots and lots of very successful Americanized Mexicans and they were the ones who opened my eyes on illegal immigration. They were the ones who first made the argument to me that it represented taxpayer-subsidized cheap labor that forced still poor LEGAL immigrants to compete against even poorer people. They also continue to argue that the sheer number of them and how receptive they are when they first arrive to the appeal of revolutionary/anti-gringo talk makes them vulnerable to wrong elements. You would think they would understand the logic of adopting the ways of their new country but it just isn't that easy.

They come to America and every weasel politician, newspaper, celebrities and other cultural elites are celebrating the "heroism" of their struggle against the "oppressive" American culture. It doesn't matter to these elites that as Americans learn the truth, they rise to fight it. These forces believe they can wait us out. We need to purge our government across the board. That is the only thing they truly fear.

Just look what happened last week with the Dodd bill to bail out the banks. It has been held up because people like me flooded their faxes and phones with protests. It was going to pass 86 to 9 yet got reported as being held back due to Republican "obstructionism". What? They simply staged the usual stand-by excuse to wait and teh MSM dutifully reported it that way.

Same thing happened with the McCain/Leiberman/Warner Cap and Trade bill.

We are truly being governed by and entrenched criminal class of weasels.

Illegal aliens
break the law by coming here, then become felons by using false IDs and stolen SS#s.

They are criminals and should be treated as such,...plain and simple!

I'm sick and tired of hearing the panderers and race-baitors screeching about those of us who want our immigration laws and borders enforced, as "racists, xenophobes and nativists"!

Our soverignty in America is at its' breaking point, and it's time to get rid of the "money whores" of Washington.

My old hometown of Reading PA
Everyone should see what illegal immigration can do to a community.Reading used to be a vibrant city comprised of approx 70% blue collar whites and 30% blue collar blacks and a very small amount of latino. Now it is about 70% Mexican or Guatamalin, and the infrastructure is completely overwelmed. All facets of city business has to be bilingual:police,fire-rescue,waste dept ect.The hospital wards are inaccessible and the welfare dept is overwhelmed.Property values in the city have plummeted because it has the highest crime rate in the state and the gang problem is so bad that the police department (which was totally taken by surprise and unprepared for this latino cime wave)is spending all it's resources to keep up.
So here is a dose of reality for those who think open borders are a good thing.
