Barack's Palin "Pig" Remark: No Accident

Despite the Obama campaign's protestations that his "pig in lipstick" remark didn't refer to Sarah Palin, there are two clear indications that, in fact, it did.
First, note that the lefty blogosphere has been referring to Governor Palin in those terms for days now (for example, here and here and here and even in a press release from NARAL as noted here). So is it just coincidence that Barack Obama would use the same terms? Riiiiight.
Second, look at the entire quote:
You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig.
You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink.
We've had enough of the same old thing.
Taken together, it's obvious that Barack is referring, first, to Governor Palin and then to Senator McCain. And really, the rhetoric is disgusting. Sure, one can disagree with them, but has political discourse really become so degraded that the great messiah of a "new kind of politics" is reduced to comparing his female opponent to a "pig," and his male opponent -- a war hero -- to "an old fish"?
Spare us the commentary about how all this is just coincidence. When Michael Dukakis said, back in 1988, that "a fish rots from the head down," everyone knew who and what he was talking aobut. Even amid some criticism, at least he was man enough to stand behind what he said, as distasteful as it was. It's not likely we'll see the same from the Obama campaign.
Barack owes Governor Palin an apology -- and Senator McCain, too, for that matter.
This is not the kind of behavior that Americans want, welcome or deserve from their presidents -- aspiring or elected.

Sarah Palin is bully and lacks a moral compass as do most of her fellow Republicans. She's pure trailer trash. Carol Platt Liebau your comments are a total joke. |

Well it is Matt Damon saying this, maybe Palin is not the best choice. Matt Damon was wicked smart in Good Will Hunting. Matt was also wicked smart in those Bourne movies but they put stem cells from Joe Biden’s brain or something in his head to make him that way. Anyway if Matt Damon says Palin is underqualified, who are we to question him? Matt Damon! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWTzyU5MFgM

I don't mind Obama saying that she is a pig. She is. She has nothing in common with reasonable republicans she wants a welfare state for her people and cutbacks for everyone else. She wants to be in the bedrooms of the nation regulating sex and it's aftermath to her moral point of view. This is unacceptable. I am conservative and this does not fall under the definition of conservative- it is fascist and Sarah Palin is a Fascist P I G.
smear the lipstick everywhere- real republicans know this woman is masquerading. |
|
The new PC police.
Just give us a list of banned words that might vaguely be considered sexist.
Though of course you won't. Because you want to play gotcha by spinning things to make them look offensive when they weren't intended that way.
meanwhile, you ignore people in your own party using TRULY racially charged language (like calling BO 'uppity') |
|
He wouldn't run from the comment. He would turn around and say, "Yes I was referring to her. She is Alaska's pork barrel queen." But he's not even good at campaigning, can't get through a 30 minute interview with Bill O'Reilly without changing his tax plan, so he clearly won't be able to stand up against the Russians and the Chinese when they are invading countries or taking over the world economically.
If the rolls were reversed I truly believe the McCain campaign would trot out to the next camera they saw and say, "Oink!" ending all debate. |

Or aka Monkey Girl. You don't see the towns on the blog here, only on the columnists blogs, but it's MG...she has invented a new moniker because she must have been booted off and has invented a new name for the RW...hold on, I have to laugh at her level of stupidity and childish ways. It is the McBushlins now. Spare me. STHU, Monkey Girl. |
|
Don't waste your breath on Hazel. She couldn't do "nice" if you spotted her the first three letters. She is a nasty piece of work that regularly steps way over the line into purely disgusting territory. So often in fact that she has been booted form here 3 times in the last few weeks alone and had to come back under her 4th name.
Just think - why would you want to waste your time bantering with someone who obviously is so full of bile and hatred and spends all her days pouring it out in a forum surrounded by people who find her repulsive. Sje is so desperate for attention that she has to come here where she is universally loathed just to get attention. Please don't grant her one and only desire. Just flag her comments as and when they step over the offensive line and hopefully she will be removed again. |

Obama made these kinds of remarks against Hillary, and Geraldine, and President Clinton, it go's to show you in how he thinks, Obama is what he is, a phony |
|
It is easy to have your toes stepped on when you are wearing size-23 shoes.
The political strategy is to get Palin free coverage by complaining about everything said about her while she deliberately avoids the press for 2 weeks after being chosen.
The facts on all her exploits will become known sooner or later. Why prep the public by setting up the premise that all media is biased against her if you don't have something to hide? |
|
I do not take Obama's comment as a joke. Nor do I think we are making something out of nothing. I could accept the fact that this is a common phrase if it was standing alone. But the fact that several people in the Obama camp have been making lipstick remarks leads me to believe his was no accident.
Also, while I love the idea of sending bacon along with our tube of lipstick to the DNC. I think maybe we better have a little mercy on the postal workers. After a few days in the postal system bacon could really be messy. How about sending along a picture of a pig instead.

I think that he was just using a common phrase like when McCain said "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran." And didn't everybody blow that out of proportion? Gosh, he was just kidding and everybody loves the Beach Boys. Or maybe it was a reference to "earmarks" and "pork barrel politics." Anyway, pigs are smart animals, but people love to eat them anyway. |
|
Barrack Obama has demonstrated time and time again that he is a wolf in camel's clothing. As slick as he attempts to portray himself, Obama is sloppy, vicious and highly suspect. I doubt that his "pig" remarks were accidental or taken out of context, though he surely will try to do a snake dance around the issue. This is a Christian man of faith? I'm sure you have all heard his little "slip" by now, in regard to his Muslim...oops, Christian background.
Not surprisingly, his remarks about Palin apply perfectly to the man who says he will bring salvation to a nation in crisis. Obama's mouth is a political box cutter. I wouldn't trust this man as far as I could twist my neck to face Mecca. |

Just heard Alan Combs say Barry wasn't talking about Sarah's lip stick. Uh huh.
He and his running buddy have to go after Sarah because she is the Thrilla from Wasilla. She's landing to many body blows. Or is it the glass jaw?
Uh,er,mmm, duh, you know, now hold on, its, its, you know, when you put lip stick on a pig you'd better run like hell cause the pigs gonna get mad. |
|
And as long as you call us whiners, we won't even read your posts. Please, please, please, if you want to have some intelligent discussion, be nice! And that goes for my fellow McCain/Palin supporters too.
Meanwhile anyone up for the idea of sending bacon-wrapped packs of lipstick to the Obama campaign? |
|
|
I would agree that it is a common expression and McCain used it in the past. However, since Palin recently used a lipstick line in front of 40 million people, well, connect the dots. Again, I give Obama latitude on this. However, it is pretty dumb on the whole. He should have realized the reaction. |
|
here is mccain using the same expression. it is a common expression people.
McCain criticized Democratic contenders for offering what he called costly universal health-care proposals that require too much government regulation. While he said he had not studied Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's plan, he said it was "eerily reminiscent" of the failed plan she offered as first lady in the 1990s. "I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," he said of her proposal.

NOt even fit to be a candidate for POTUS:
Every decent, normal, good, well adjusted citizens MUST call for Senator Obama to withdraw:
He is reckless, obscene, inspires his base to serve as sleaze merchants: Any good, decent, normal support would have walked out in protest:
He brings out the worst in his base: THIS NATION deserves better:
NOT the change this nation needs or deserves.
Make the calls, send the letters and emails: DEMAND that he withdraw: |

Another poster named Michelle has suggested that we all send tubes of lipstick, Passion Pink (Sarah Palin's color, I've heard) if you can find it, to Obama's campaign. I'm sending some tomorrow. Spread the word! It would be fun to send some bacon in the package, but I'm not suggesting anything that evil. Or am I? |
|
Barracuda You need to git out of my way hit the Alaska highway find your way back to Ketchikan.
Now I know you're a pretty one lip-glossed and toting long gun.
But you're making me run and taking my fun and that’s not the how the race was to be won.
So paint your pig sit out this jig for I'm the chosen one
Ain't no sweetheart wanted from the midnight sun.

Obama can protest all he wants, we know exactly who he was talking about. He can spin, and hmmm and uuhhhh all he wants. This was not only a direct attack on Sarah Palin...I took it as a direct attack on me (a women.)
I took it as "this pig, (this women)", wearing lipstick, is not to be considered an agent of change.
This slip also brought the Muslim question back into my mind. Some Muslims do not have a high regard to women. I wondered just how much his Muslim teaching as a child influences him today.
Now I know the Obama camp will spin and say, Oh this isn't what he meant. But that is the way it came across to me. I watched that clip several times, and each time I felt he was calling Sarah a pig. I felt he was calling me a pig.
You are absolutely done in my book Obama. That remark was the last straw. You don't get a do-over for this remark, like you have for all of your other stupid remarks.
I think the Obama camp needs a little attitude adjustment. I suggest all of us "pigs" out here in realityland, clinging to our guns and religion, send a tube of lipstick (used of course) to Obama headquarters.

I'll allow for the fact that he wasn't calling Palin a pig. It is a common expression. However, how dumb is this guy? How could he not know that people would get upset at this? Is he determined to try and win with 30% of the female vote? Obama, stick with the teleprompter. Off the cuff you are horrible. There is no way this line would have made it through any serious editing process. If I'm wrong on that, then the whole campaign is a bunch of idiots. |
|
|
how the Republican party (of which I am a member) has become such a staunch defender of political correctness. Apparently, it was ok for McCain to refer to Mitt Romney as a pig ("never wrestle with a pig...") or even to Senator Clinton last year, in a lipstick/pig statement that practically mirrors Obama's statement. Was McCain also calling Clinton a "pig"? Sheesh. I'm a conservative, and I find the whole mock outrage thing just ridiculous. Let's start talking more about taxes, national defense, immigration, etc and less about lipstick and other completely irrelevant topics. |
|
|
It was so obviously a planned statement, I don't see how you could call it a "gaffe". It was deliberate, and extremely rude. I agree with Carol Platt Liebau that this is not the kind of statement we expect from a President. His campaign staff, yes, their usually excused for this type of cheap shot. But not THE ONE. |
|
I'm already tired of hearing about pigs and lipstick.
Sure, it's a cheap shot. I watched the full clip over and over, and even though he didn't mention Palin, he was obviously using the "lipstick" angle to get his crowd going. Having said that, so what.
There are much bigger gaffe's to go after, namely Biden getting himself in trouble with the Catholics. Now Pelosi is going to meet with an Archbishop. They are digging a deeper hole with their abortion stance.
