Chairman Steele
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 4:20 PM
Former Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele has WON the race to become RNC Party Chairman on the sixth ballot.

There is a ton for card-trading going on outside the member floor right now...lots of consultants were camped out at the Hilton's 1st floor bar through voting session waiting to see which person they would be issuing contract proposals to for the 2010 and 2012 election cycles.

My kudos to the RNC
It appears that maybe they're getting a clue after all. Steele not only gets it, he is a great communicator as well.

Congratulations.

Good Deal
Michael Steele will be able to articulate the message of Conservatism and traditional values; something sadly lacking over the past few years.

Michael Steele
To the pinheads on the dem. side: Michael Steele is well liked by ALL republicans. He will make an awesome chairman of the RNC. Those of us who listen to Rush are very, very happy with the RNC's choice of Steele. My prayers are with Michael Steele. P.S. the dem's really need to get over Rush's addiction to the pain medication that he was on. My husband was put on that because of his arthritis and it is something that the body craves, not the other way around. When you talk about Rush that way, you also taking about everyone who has been given on this medication. Shame on you.

The Next Battle
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/01/30/mccain-i-dont-see-any -gop-votes-for-the-stimulus-in-the-senate/

I am so proud of Republicans for opposing this disaster of a Democratic "stimulus" plan! It is more of a big honkin pork roll sandwich. Do the right thing--fight this. No compromise at this point. Better the bill die and both parties start over. If the GOP votes 100% against this the GOP can block it with a Filibuster in the Senate.

Hold the Line! Hold the Line! Hold the Line!

As for Michael Steele, we need you at the front. All leaves cancelled.

Outstanding choice in Steele. Let the games begin...

I am sorry about your husband's dilemma. I too know people who have had multiple surgeries and they are addicted to the pain meds prescribed.

I would like to add one thing to your lib admonishment though, they would do well to remember that their Prince Obama is an admitted cocaine user and pot smoker, who never did say whether or not he has given up those illegal drugs.

Nah, they are too hung up on Rush and his legal pain meds to admit that their messiah also has/had drug problems.

BTW: I am very happy about Michael Steele's win this afternoon. We now have our party back from the RINOS that gave us all a bad name.

God Bless!

OK, Steele. Let's get our seat back at the table.

Big Win for GOP. Big Win for USA!!!

So, you're going to leave Steele and join Pelosi and Reid? What?!

Stay the course. Your voice just got stronger today.

This is a two party system. Leaving the GOP for a 3rd party is a vote for Pelosi and Reid, which ensures that "hell on Earth" will continue.

Congrats to MS
He's a solid guy with good ideas and a style to convey them.

All that accomplished and no one had to mention his race in order for him to succeed.

Good news!
Michael Steele is an excellent choice to lead the RNC.

It's a good start to offset abysmal news from the DC swamp.

I'm not going to insist you are wrong -- heck, he might be a RINO. However, I've heard him speak several times on CSPAN and TV. He sure don't sound like a RINO, he sounds like a stand-up guy who speaks his mind.
Tazeeyore writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 5:14 PM
Thank God
Now we can get back to being conservative patriots and tell the moderate fruitcakes in the party to get the hell out of the way.
Doug writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 5:15 PM
Good move
Republicans who can't tolerate Michael Steele really need to find another political home. This is no liberal by any means. He is dynamic and thoughful and can energize listeners/viewers. We will never get back the suburban moderates we are losing in droves if the GOP allows only doctrinaire right wingers a place in the party.
Frank writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 5:20 PM
uh Tazeeyor

At least we're rid of Duncan and I can only hope Steele can whip the party back into shape.......We'll see.
Neal writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 5:42 PM
moderate or not
I thought Steele is a conservative. Some comments here suggest otherwise. What specifically has he done that might earn him a rino tag?
Good man's wife writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 5:44 PM
Bravo
Steele never really sounded like a moderate to me, and his life story is very compelling!

Good pick. I am SO glad Duncan is gone. Now here's to it.

Barry is screwing up left and right already, helping Republicans out even at this point! Who'd think it would take so little time.

Of course Pelosi is REALLY helping Repubs out. Keep up that great work, granny! Ahh..add Dodd, Frank, Rangel the tax cheat, Geithner the tax cheat, the Clintons, etc, etc...it's beautiful.

Brighter days are ahead!A purging of libs ahead!

Congrats Mr. Steele! Excellent choice to lead the RNC! He WILL rally the base. He's had lot of media exposure. People know who he is, and had heard him speak on may issues.

good at least the right is not all star-struck and fainting over our choices. We can and will the party in charge in 2010. Steele will work really hard and he does get his message accross without a prompter.Ha ha ha,congratulations Mr. Steele.

neal part 1
this information was pulled from Redstate(apparently they read Matt Lewis). for your edification...

"Steele boasts that his chairmanship of GOPAC qualifies him to run the RNC. He cites GOPAC’s work to elect Republicans as good preparation. So how did GOPAC fare under Steele’s leadership? During the 2008 cycle, GOPAC gave 11 candidates seeking U.S. House seats nearly $20,000. Six won and five lost. (See my update, “The Tale of Two GOPACs.”)

Among GOPAC’s expenditures in 2008 was $5,000 to Steele for Maryland, even though Steele wasn’t on the ballot. The money probably went to pay off Steele’s 2006 campaign debt. It also happened to be the third largest expenditure for GOPAC, raising questions about the organization’s priorities under his leadership.

Steele’s well-documented role with the Republican Leadership Council and association with co-founder Christie Todd Whitman is perhaps the most egregious political error he’s made. Any conservative who partners with the liberal Whitman must be viewed skeptically. Steele claims he was trying to broaden the party’s base by appealing to moderates. “We have to elect moderates in the party,” he told CBN’s David Brody.

Frank writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 5:50 PM
neal part 2
One of those moderates Steele supported was former Rep. Wayne Gilchrist, a classic RINO if there ever was one. Gilchrist faced a primary challenge from conservative Andy Harris, a Maryland state senator with strong backing from the Club for Growth. It didn’t matter to Steele. He threw his support to Gilchrist. Harris went on to win the GOP primary, prompting Gilchrist to turn on the GOP and endorse Harris’ Democrat opponent.

As Matt Lewis reported, Steele has tapped Blaise Hazelwood to run his RNC race, meaning there’s a good chance she would follow him to the RNC if he is elected. During the disastrous 2006 election cycle, it was Hazelwood who ran media and political operations for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. Recall that the NRSC lost six seats that cycle and, as a result, the Republican majority in the Senate. Under Hazelwood’s direction, the NRSC spent $1.2 million in the GOP primary to save traitorous Lincoln Chafee from a challenge by conservative Steve Laffey."

Impressive Resume
Mr. Steele certainly has a much more impressive resume, than say....howard dean!

This is great news. Mr. Steele is a powerhouse, and an honest to goodness REAL Republican.

more cheers please?
Hey..let's hear more cheers for Mr. Steele. Oh let me guess, folks here are not that pleased, eh? An affirmative action selection, will you call him that? Or will you say we won't do his bidding because his father is black? Ha ha..you guys are such jokers, you know.
Neal writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 6:12 PM
Frank
Thank you. Ggood place to start learning more about him
Charles Martel writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 6:12 PM
eva's canned response
Kitten, it looks to me like most folks here are mightily pleased.

And there were four other candidates in the running. In your average Obama run for office, all the other candidates would have been forced to withdraw due to his operatives' having produced embarrassing revelations about them. (Isn't it funny how divorce records are sealed until Illinois Democrats need them not to be?)

Heads high, Republicans, and shields up. Now let's go take care of Barry's pork package in the Senate. Resist the urge to "get something done". That's not why you're there: you're there to say "no" every time. It's going to be a very rough two years, but we have to outlast him.

"That's not why you're there: you're there to say "no" every time."

Hmm. Interesting. And how many times did the GOP piggies say "no" from 2000-2006?

It sounds like you're there to say "no" when it suits your needs, wouldn't you agree?
The Plumber writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 7:50 PM
Congrats Mr Steele
For your sake, the sake of the party, and the sake of conservatism, please don't cr*p all over the base.

Keep us happy (low taxes, small government, no amnesty), and we'll bring you voters and give you money.

Follow the advice of liberals in the party, and you'll be as much a failure as every other liberal in the GOP.

The GOP didn't say "no" enough. That's why they keep losing. Now that the GOP is in the tank, they have nothing to lose by being conservative.

Happy?

Brooklyn and Eva: Republicans don't waste time considering a person's skin color - that's for the liberals to wring their hands over. The best candidate, most able to persuade the largest voting block wins on our side. We don't need AA to level the playing field.

These next several months will be fun watching the Lib/Dems self-destruct by their over-reaching laws and regulations. They just can't help themselves!

Steele - a bridge to ALL americans!
Mr. Steele has my support in time, talent and treasure. Let us give him ALL the support he needs to make to rebuild this republic again. The GOP is privileged to have him as Chairman and for once, democrats won't say 'we are the all white club'. Also, Steele gives us street credibility because he speaks in a language that everyday americans can understand. Too often, our 'leaders' in the GOP speak to graduate level members and forget most voters have only a high school education. Steele will remove the elitist communication issues by speaking to ALL AMERICANS about AMERICAN ISSUES. Way to go!
I am RIGHT writes: Saturday, January, 31, 2009 7:45 AM
thank God.
Finally a chairman with a brain and courage and the passion to really make things happen. All we need now is for the sad pathetic country club Republicans and RINOs to get out of the way...and let the Conservative do his work.
DHulme writes: Saturday, January, 31, 2009 1:46 PM
Just another Rockefeller Republican.....
except this time, he's a man of color. Remarkable steps these moderate(neurotic) Republicans have been able to achieve. First, the pseudoconservative Sarah Palin and now, Michael Steele. Sorry, Michael. No sale. No money. The conservative PACS have to work diligently to purge the remaining RINOS from the Republican Party in preparation for 2010 and 2012.
