Amanda Carpenter should also be ashamed. When a person violates a law, even if unknowing, how does that make him a good candidate for an office where his job is to enforce the law? To make it look like it is just payback, instead of concern for honest government, makes me angry.
The Republicans have a strong record of fixing moral lapses in their administration and legislators. That cannot be said about the Democrats to the same degree. To make this look like the Republicans are doing this for payback purposes should not even be raised. |
The fact that he was audited and paid for those years, but did not review and then pay for the same taxes omitted in the prior years when audited is potentially a moral lapse, not just a "honest mistake". Couple that with the illegal as a house cleaner, and I believe it points toward an ethical lapse.
If the argument is that he was sloppy and did not review his prior returns and records when it was pointed out to him in his later returns, we don't need a sloppy person overseeing such programs as TARP, oversight of the Treasury Department, etc.
Sloppy or morally challenged, either way I am sure there are highly qualified Democrats out there other than Mr. Geithner who can do this job. I recommend that Mr. Obama find one.

The toe tapper is still in the Senate. |
Like Obama's team said, don't punish the guy for an "honest mistake".
Changing the meaning of honesty. That's change we can believe in. |
the nominee for treasury FORGETS to pay $34000 in taxes......change you can believe in.
roy |
Dems don't make mistakes. Just errors. Ask Charlie Rangel and Barney Frank! |
Failing to carry the one is an "error". Intentionally failing to pay $34,000 in taxes is called a "felony".
Randy Weaver's wife, son, and dog were assassinated by the very same people this criminal is set to lead for being accused (and found not guilty of, by the way) failing to pay ****$5**** in taxes, ferchrissake! |
YOU ASKED FOR CHANGE!YOU GOT IT! |
Hey, why don't all of us who pay estimated taxes just "forget" to do so this year. Hell, as the Dems say, it's a mistake that a lot of busy people make and if we simply pay-up at some time in the future, say in about 4-5 years, it's perfectly OK. Even if they make us pay Interest at the current Federal Funds rate, still looks like a bargain to me.
The country is being taken over by a political elitist class that holds the rest of us in contempt. We are entering an era when the political left will try to rule the country as a privileged class not subject to the laws or common mores required of the common citizen. Is there no one to stop this madness? |
For starters, the Chavez nomination was derailed by the Bush administation itself, not by Senate Dems. The reason being that she had not revealed the existence of the illegal in her home during the vetting process. This was particularly problematic considering the prominent role Chavez herself had played in the similar case of Clinton nominee Zoe Baird.
The fact that the illegal in question and members of Chavez'z family refuted her initial statement that she was unaware of the woman's status was the final nail in the coffin. |
I would be excited about this. Unfortunately, this guy is for more taxes, just not for him. |
I totally agree. This IS getting better by the day. SecCommerce nominee Bill Richardson bounced in a "pay to play" scandal in New Mexico. Future Presidential Advisor Rahm Emmanuel implicated in another "pay to play" scheme for Obama's Senate seat with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Attorney General nominee Eric Holder very instrumental as Slick Willie's deputy Attorney General in the pardon of Marc Rich, indicted among other things, for trading with the enemy. Also got 2 Weather Underground and 16 FALN Puerto Rican terrorists pardoned under Clinton. A crook extraordinaire (and a Chicago "gangsta" to boot). SecState nominee Hillary Clinton's hubby Bill taking MANY millions from Foreign Governments and foreign private interests. Conflict of interest???? Heck yeah. About all the SecState does is deal with foreigners. Clintonista Leon Panetta nominated for head of CIA..........with no intel experience whatsoever!!! Add to this the Dem-O-Rat led Congress, which coming into power in 2006, Queen Pelosi declared that it would be "the most ethical Congress ever". Guess she couldn't foresee William Jefferson's "frozen funds" problem, or Charlie Rangel's "tax ommission problem" or Chris Dodd and Barney Frank involved in conflicts of interest while overseeing our financial system that imploded on their watch. It's gonna be an entertaining 4 years. But please............BUCKLE UP!!!!!

This is fun to watch. After all the years of sniping and attacking any little flaw and blowing it out of proportion you would think they would be smart enough to realize the spotlight is shining on them now.The poor MSM is reluctantly starting to actually do its job by default. It must be hard on them to print the truth after years of bias.No worries in a couple of more days we will all be united and our enemies will lay down their arms because everyone will love us.Peace love and of course hope. |

Linda Chavez never actually hired Marta Mercado. Mercado only stayed at her house. Chavez withdrew from her nomination after she was accused of giving Mercado money under the table for doing household chores. An FBI investigation into the matter found that Chavez broke no laws. But since she's a Republican--and even worse, a woman and a minority who's a Republican--she's considered guilty even after being proven innocent by Democrats and Big Media. |
... with Demo's and their taxes. Rangel? Nothing's come of that. Geithner?
Wonder if I can forego my tax bill this year? Maybe pay it off in a couple of years?
Wonder if the IRS assessed fees and interest on his "honest mistakes"?
Nice double standard... |

One was already here at 4:40pm. Scarlett is Lola C's new handle now. Even she knew the best she chould offer was a WEAK defense. |
Barry O's Teasury Secretary nominee, Timothy Geithner, didn't pay a huge portion of his taxes from 2001-2004. That is a violation against the IRS. His domestic employee has been working with an expired "green card". That is a violation against ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). If confirmed as SecTreasury, he would be the "big boss" over the IRS and ICE. This should, WITHOUT A DOUBT, disqualify him for the job. Confirming him would be akin to making a draft-dodger or deserter the Secretary of Defense. Or making a bank robber or rapist the Attorney General.
Anxiously awaiting the lefty spin on this one!!!!
In 2006 the IRS audit pointed out to Geithner that he had not calculated his tax payments correctly for his time at the IMF (01 to 04)He coughed up the missing tax for 03 & 04 immediately in 06. But it was until 2008 that he owned up to and paid the back tax for 01 & 02. Why the two year gap? Did he think he'd got away with the first 2 years?

go by the same set of standards as people with morals? Republicans are condemned and removed from office for tapping their foot in a men's room, whereas Dumbassocrats elect people to office who are openly gay, ie Barney Frank. A double standard? youbetcha!
With the majority in the Senate, I'm sure all the liberals transgressions, large or small, will be construed as 'mistakes' and will be forgiven.
They feel they have the right to live by their own rules - damn the laws, because they don't feel they apply to them. They will have to be held accountable before they completely destroy America. |
There are 4 questions in the questionnaire I cited above dedicated solely to the employment of domestic help. Got to wonder how he answered those too. (qs 53 to 56).

I don't think the expired green card is a big thing but it was enough to stop Chavez and also two Clinton appointees so the same standards should apply. The "seriousness" of the problems he faces in the new post are not a reason to ignore these issues. If anything the opposite is true with regard to the tax issues.
You'd think if you're mulling over whether or not to accept the position of secretary of the TREASURY, you might consider any outstanding taxes on your account.
The Treasury Secretary nominee doesn't pay taxes, he's done. That's the type of hypocrisy you cannot run from. See ya, Timmy !! |
Meets grim reality redux. Wake me up when the Obama Revolution has gone the way of all that preceeded it. |
As far as the woman with the green card, I work for a very small company that hired a few with green cards. I can see the mistake there, because I have tried to get info on how to tell if they are real or what procedures to follow. It was hard to find anything. I don't have to deal with that anymore, and after they left I found out they just go to KC and get fake ones! I would of never known.
As far as the taxes, for that reason alone he should step down. No excuses, its time to step up and do the right thing for our country! |
If Linda Chavez was forced to withdraw her nomination, Timothy Geithner should withdraw his nomination. How is Timothy Geithner supposed to run the treasury department is he cannot even pay his own taxes? |
Remember the seven-page, 63-item questionnaire that the O-team sent to every candidate for Cabinet and other high-ranking positions in the incoming administration.
Q39 - Have you been or do you have any expectation that you will be the subject of any tax, financial, or other audit or inquiry? If So, please describe.
Inquiring minds would like to know how Mr Geithner answered this question and what did Obama know and when did he know it.
Gotta love this too... "Democratic senators plan to defend Mr. Geithner, saying that the nature of the complaints pale in comparison to the gravity of the crises he has been asked to face, a severe economic recession, turmoil in the financial markets and the collapse of the U.S. auto industry."
Oh My! We all KNOW just how reliabel NBC is don't we.
Looks like the left making excuses and justifying bad behavior once again. |
Geithner needs to withdraw from the confirmation process. Taxpayers no longer have the time to play games while these politicians check to see if they get caught. "Honest" has nothing to do with his "mistake". I don't know about anyone else out there, but I have never "forgotten" to pay my Social Security & Medicare taxes.
If we cannot expect our elected officials to abide by the law of the land, we have sunk to a new low. |
If he's confirmed, it'll demonstrate that Obama comes in with a do as I say, not as we do immunity.
However, with only what we know right now, it is hard to imagine this nominee going on.
Treasury needs a strong and vibrant hand immediately. It'll be bad for us if a new nominee is stunted by a slow arrival date at the job.
How could Geithner have allowed his name to be put forward knowing that he'd had a back taxes issue this decade?
Impossible situation. The country gets it right in the chest.
If its good for the goose, its good for the gander, therefore Tim Geitner MUST withdraw his name for consideration.
Funny how when its a democrat the left says they, "should not be punished for honest mistakes".
Yeah right.
Great find on Grassley's part though. He also voted against the UAW bailout. |
