Hate By Any Other Name . . .
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 5:45 PM
The LA Times covers the mass protests against the passage of Proposition 8, which amends the California constitution and clarifies that marriage is restricted to one man and one woman.  Set aside the fact that African Americans were the most overwhelmingly pro-Prop 8 voters, or that some may have supported the measure simply because they were offended at gay marriage being imposed through a one-vote margin by California Supreme Court judicial fiat.

What's worth noting is that since the proposition passed, some of its opponents have behaved in a way that would be universally condemned if, say, conservatives had behaved in the same manner about Obama's victory.

Most appalling, here is video of a cross being ripped out of an elderly woman's hand and being trampled upon.

Just asking:  Where is the ACLU, and where are all the hate crimes advocates?  Surely if a Christian had stomped on a symbol of gay pride, there would be you-know-what to pay.  What makes it all right for gay activists to stamp on the most sacred symbol of the Christian faith?

It strikes me that different standards of behavior are expected from Americans depending on their political persuasion.  Acts that would be characterized as unacceptable and hateful if employed by conservatives are treated as an acceptable expression of legitimate grievance when committed by the left.

    Media Again
Why isn't this the biggest story on TV right now the way it would be if it were conservatives abusing homosexual protesters? The media. I am so tired of media bias. Conservatives need to start scholarship funds for conservative journalists and pay them stipends for working in the MSM.

    Easy now.
It's just a little "community activism". If that old bitty can't handle a bunch of homosexual thugs, then she's obviously in the wrong community.

The left owns the streets because the right is at work.

    Why can't they just act
like adults..the Masses have spoken and they should just accept it and fight for their cause another day. They banned smoking..do you see all the smokers in the streets picketing and bashing individuals...To me they all look ignorant and don't respect the rule of law..isn't that what our country is about..the Rule of Law?..All Sanctuary Cities have broken federal law yet they still receive their federal funding..things are just totally skewed anymore

    From a liberal
I am a liberal who opposes measures like Prop 8. That said, there is NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER for the violence directed at this woman who did nothing more than excercise the rights afforded her by the Constitution.

That this behavior comes from those protesting for tolerence makes it even more disgusting.

    Anh.....
Your source proving that Mormon churches provided most of the funding pro-Prop 8 ?????
    I personally don't believe it's true.
Even it is true, what does that have to do with 70% of Blacks voting for Prop 8 ??????
It's not like the Mormons have ANY influence over Blacks, right????
C'mon Anh, admit it, the Blacks hosed the gays on this one.
No more spin, trying to pin this one on the Whites and the churches.
We're tired of always having the finger pointed at us, especially when the facts PLAINLY say otherwise.

    Wow
Can we say pathetic? Abusing an elderly woman--can we say gutless wonders? They truly are hurting their own cause. If they think they can bully America into doing what they want, they have another thing coming. Marriage is just a foot in the door. It is one of those if-you-give-a-mouse-a-cookie stories!

I have nothing against homosexuals, but I do not see any reason to change the definition of marriage just because they want us to do so. I do not think they should be denied civil rights, and unfortunately for them, marriage is not considered a civil right.

The left is telling Conservatives to "get over it" as far as Obama's election. I think the left should get over their loss in CA too.

    So much hate
I am not condoning this sort of protest, but some of the comments here have been pretty hateful themselves. What happened to taking the higher ground? Also, they were protesting in front of Mormon churches because the source of funding for campaigning for Prop 8 was mainly from these churches - just to clarify. It is unfortunate that this has brought out an ugly side of this issue, but not allowing homosexuals to marry is wrongful discrimination. Why not ban divorce then if we are really trying to preserve this "sanctity" of marriage? Maybe all vegans can come together an impose a ban on human consumption of all animal products... it's their belief so should they impose it on everyone else? Simply put... no.

Let out your inner Jesus in the Temple. Somebody needs a whooping.

"What makes it all right for gay activists to stamp on the most sacred symbol of the Christian faith?"

Nothing. But they be messing with the wrong dude. God is ticked. Stand by, you unholy illuminati of gaydom. You'll be hearing from the Big Guy.

    No Means No
I think those of us who say "no" to neutering state marriage licensing should keep telling these sore losers that "No Means No" to the point where the lesbian feminists no longer want to use that phrase in r@ape education.

    The Wrong protest.
Why don't the gays gather up their angry hordes and head on over to Watts and Compton and get into the face of the black people faces about this issue? Let them try and get violent in that crowd. Let them even show their faces in that crowd.

It is too funny that the left can hang Sarah Palin in effigy, conduct violent protests if they do not get their way, can conduct blatant voter fraud, can accept illegal campaign donations, etc, etc, and so on and so forth...but it is the conservative right who are the mean bad guys?

    Where is the video?
Where is the "video of a cross being ripped out of an elderly woman's hand and being trampled upon"? You forgot to provide a link, Carol. However, the video proved to be not hard to find.

    WHY...???
Why a small percentage of the overall population insists on inflicting this ("Homosexual Marriage"...it is NOT "gay" by any stretch of the imagination!! If it were, why are most men and women homosexuals so unhappy??) on society at large, I'll never understand. Really.

I do not dislike homosexuals at all. I would NEVER purposely hurt anyone and if anyone I knew "bashed" a homosexual person, I would stand up for the homosexual!!

    But Marriage?? NO!!

I will not NOW nor EVER support Homosexual "Marriage". Marriage is a union between a man and a woman, not only as a profession of love and often of faith, but to bear children and "be a family".

Two men cannot do this without using a surrogate; two women cannot do this without a sperm donation. Obviously, procreation was intelligently designed this way for a reason.

I will always stand up for someone's basic Civil Rights and to not be discriminated against with the laws we have NOW. Homosexual Marriage? I will fight it all my life.

    ...
if you can be joined in a civil union then not being able to marry is not discrimination ...

Men can't legally sleep with teenage boys (or girls) ... isn't that discrimination ?

    The anti-8 thugs are DISGUSTING!
They need to be arrested and prosecuted for hate crimes.

The video is very good. They should be able to be identified.

They are going to hurt their own cause. THIS is why every anti-gay-marriage ban passed.
foxmustang writes: Thursday, November, 13, 2008 6:12 PM
    The Hispanics.....
actually voted very close to what whites did.
Whites: 45% for Prop 8.....55% against
Hispanics: 50% for Prop 8.....50% against
Blacks: 70% for Prop 8......30% against

Gays and lesbians you need to face the truth....
    The Blacks hosed you.......
They howl the loudest if they think they are being dicriminated against, but I guess it's okay for them to discriminate against homosexuals.....
    Can you say hypocrite??????

The MSM is doing the best they can to spin this at the feet of whites and the churches.
The facts just plain disprove this.....

The Mormons have been the scape goat for the passing of Prop 8, but I haven't seen any articles on here about them.

funny how everyone wants to blame
everyone else instead of putting the blame firmly and squarely on the black and hispanic voters.
