Chambliss's Victory Might Have Saved Norm Coleman, Too...
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 11:04 AM
Earlier I noted that it's possible for the Dems to "steal" the MN senate seat, because the senate gets to decide who "wins".  On the other side of the argument, however, is Michael Barone who makes a particularly noteworthy point:  A consequence of Chambliss winning is that Al Franken’s importance as a possible addition to the Democratic Senate bloc diminishes...

This is especially true because getting Franken in the Senate would entail Obama (and the Dems) expending political capital that could be better used on other things.  What is more, getting Franken in the Senate might not be worth the predictable backlash that would ensue if it were perceived to have been done in a heavy-handed manner.

Here's a excerpt of the Barone piece:

Chambliss's victory over Jim Martin means that the Democrats will not get 60 seats in the Senate, even if Al Franken somehow manages to overcome Norm Coleman's circa 300-vote lead in the Minnesota recount. Franken's only apparent recourse is to the courts or to the full Senate; I doubt he'll get anywhere in the courts, and I doubt that Barack Obama will want the Democrats to take on a bruising partisan fight to get a 59th seat in the Senate (though labor leaders, eager to pass the card check bill and knowing that Arlen Specter voted to cut off the filibuster against it in the outgoing Congress, may press for that).
In short, Chambiss's victory might have also saved Norm Coleman...

losers? - looks like projection to me
And I'm sure you have all kinds of examples of GOP election stealing. Still pushing the great dim debacle of 2000 are we? I think the evidence has proven that one even when you dismissed thousands of military votes and tried to cut off western Florida. I love the cracker comment when ACORN has big ties to the Atlanta blacks and even with a major Libertarian and Oblaba Chambliss missed by a percent of making it moot. So dream big loser lib, Oblaba is trying to become a Clinton centrist and 2010 will be '94 all over again for the dims.

Gap is an illusion
The only reason for a 300 vote divide is that Coleman's camp has challenged 100-plus more votes than Franken's. This PR stunt has the effect of making a possible Franken win less legitimate. That's the fallback position of the RW in this case-- charging foul if they lose.

Save The RINOs?
The Democrats don't need 60, Specter, Snowe, Collins, Lugar, Voinivich, Grahamnesty, and McCain will provide them the votes for cloture when they need them. Maybe Coleman will help them, too.

Fight
You can bet the Senate Dems. will fight for the Minn. seat without or without Obama's blessing.

But even if the Dems. stay at 58, they can usually count on the two northeastern women to vote with them.
