Don't Tell Her Achy-Breaky Career
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 9:27 AM

15-year-old Miley Cyrus is now upset with the "artistic" photo spread of herself in Vanity Fair.  Here's my take:  Even if you put aside the obvious moral reasons that you would not want your 15-year-old daughter to participate in such a photo-shoot -- this simply makes no business sense.

If Cyrus wants to compete with Britney, Lindsay, and Paris, she will have a hard time of it.  Maintaining a wholesome image, by contrast, would make her incredibly marketable -- not just today -- but in the future.  Why?  Because she would essentially have the niche to herself.  I don't get it ...

Cynical on Cyrus
I'm afraid I just don't believe that this event is the result of poorly timed contemplation. My understanding is that the family was present for the photo shoot and got to see the picture in advance. They liked it and moved on. NOW all of a sudden Miley is embarrassed? These are smart people familiar with the media. I, of course, have no inside information, this is just my opinion, but it would appear she wants to have her cake and eat it too: do the photo shoot (be edgy, become known to new demographics) and then make a heartfelt apology to appease the core fan group.

K-Lo is supporting the campaign to ban
sales of Playboy at PXs. She says it is not good for the troops.

Perhaps she should exapand it to Vanity Fair.

I did not think the photos were terribly out there (assuming Miley was an adult)--but why did Dad and Mom let this go forward. She is a big enough star to control the nature of the shoot.
RASHUM writes: Monday, April, 28, 2008 10:19 AM
too bad
It is no wonder that Paris has made a career out of being a sloppy whore. She cannot act, cannot sing, has coke head parents, and despite her family’s money, has little education. If she did not flash her t-ts now and then, nobody would really give a s--t about her.

Miley Cyrus can act and sing. She really does not have to behave like a whore to expand her career. All of my friend’s children love her. She makes enough money that she really does not have to sacrifice her self respect.
hambones writes: Monday, April, 28, 2008 10:41 AM
hopefully
this is just a mistake that she and her parents learn from. The last thing we need is another child star in and out of jail/rehab. She is a talented singer and actress, with lots of young girls who love her. Responsible parents will be keeping a close eye on her to make sure this isn't the start of a downward slide. For her sake, and for the sake of my kids I hope it isn't.
Pasadena Phil writes: Monday, April, 28, 2008 10:52 AM
Why is this surprising?
Hollywood is the great magnet for the creepiest and sleaziest people you will ever meet. The smart people make a quick million and leave. Those who start "believing" hang around and immediately start circling the drain. It is not an exaggeration to describe Hollywood as a human cesspool. More lives are ruined there by people selling their souls for futile hope than anywhere at any time in history.

Stupid, stupid, stupid parents
And Rashum, Miley can't sing at all.

OK - I should change my comments to "Miley can sell records."

Her parents must be chromosome deficient. Scary that they did not see anything wrong with the pictures when they were being taken; their daughter is 15!!!!!!! Not to mention, you would think Miley would feel a little uncomfortable taking those pictures too!

money is the root of all sorts of evil
I hope they learn from this mistake and i hope it does not happen again.

Her role model image is at stake here, and her proclomations of devout Christianity are also. I hope she apologizes to her base for the pics.

Wasn't there...
... a South Park episode about this? It was about a conspiracy to exploit Britney Spears and the efforts made make her off-screen life unliveable, and they make a comment in the end about Miley Cyrus being the next victim.
sloandog writes: Monday, April, 28, 2008 12:01 PM
I am not taken aback
by this disposable behavior. As a father of three daughters I have watched as this permissive culture spiral downward to where the slutification of young female stars is not only accepted as mainstream but a rite of passage. I by no means considered my self a prude, but as each of my girls reached middleschool it became increasingly more difficult to keep them on the straight and narrow.Even if you are an extremely vigilant parent the opportunities for your child to stray are omnipresent. Of course the media and entertainment industry takes no responsibility. What the long term consequences of this disturbing trend are, only time will tell.
RASHUM writes: Monday, April, 28, 2008 12:38 PM

You are correct. There was a South Park about this and Miley Cyrus was going to be the sacrifice for the next years harvest.
Keith writes: Monday, April, 28, 2008 1:11 PM
I saw this
elsewhere. And when I saw Annie Leibovitz was the photographer, I knew this was not good. I do hope that this doesn't tarnish Miley's star, we need more teens like her.

Slutty, money hungry b**tards, allowing their child to be exploited.

This kind of stuff destroyed Brooke Shields' career! Oh wait... no it didn't.

Her "apology" is a publicity stunt, and you are helping to feed it:

Child Porn
MMMmmm....what father/mother would allow thier 15 year old daughter to be photographed semi-nude (I know her back was turned) by a notorious lesbian activist/photographer, who has a track record of exploting children in order to make headlines? Of course, they initially fell back on that over-used post-modern apologia, "It was all about Art!!" Of course, Miley was shocked!I mean shocked! to find out her photo turned out be be nothing more than trashy child erotica. She didn't know! Now she is super embarrassed!

Disney and the Cyrus' are in full repentent mode now. They see thier cash cow slipping. You see, the rubes and hayseeds are quite as sophisticated as the Hollywood Jetset. The bourgousie actually believed it when Miley professed her Christianity. Parents in flyover country are wondering what kind of child poses semi-nude for the lesbian Annie Liebowitz? What was her father thinking? In the end it doesn't matter; it's all show buisness, right? There's 50 dozen Miley Cyrus's lined up to take her place if she falls...
Keith writes: Monday, April, 28, 2008 6:18 PM
Wait a minute
If Annie tooks pics of a semi-nude 15 year old, doesn't that fall under child pornography laws? If Vanity Fair prints them in their magazine, aren't they culpable as well? I'm just sayin'.

Billy Ray
Your the man of the family so I am holding you accountable.

Take a close look at what hollyweird does to young women, it turns them into drugged outsluts who's morals are loose and another part of these young women becomes so loose that it claps when the wind blows. But not to worry, during a shoot they can take it out during post production.

Billy do you want your daughter to become just another vapidwhore, the side slit to Paris on he SluttyLife. Go chill in Kentucky for a while and re-access where your leading your family.

It's NOT Child Pornography...
First of all, I am dissapointed that a 15-year-old girl decided she needed to grow up too fast by posing with her bare back in a provocative ad. That said, however, it is not child pornography if it was her and her parents who decided on this photospread. Child pornography, as I've learned from many articles and encyclopedia entries, involves more that just having an underage girl baring the top half of her back. Child pornography is usually done on Russian-language websites or the very underground of the Internet. It matters what the context is, and I hardly believe that anyone is going to get a nosebleed over a Vanity Fair spread of Hannah Montana in a provocative pose approved by her and her parents. Truth be told, something worse happened to her: Cellphone picks of her in her underwear were leaked on the Internet. I would think that more people would be concerned about that rather than this Vanity Fair issue. Oh, and we have a child-prostitution trafficking problem going on in Indonesia and elsewhere. Why isn't anyone outraged over that? Children are actually being harmed physically, mentally, and emotionally in that sick underworld.
No, no, we're too concerned about a celebrity brat and her douchebag parents' decision to let her embarress herself.
Some concern indeed.
Shannon writes: Monday, April, 28, 2008 11:41 PM
Miley
This is definetely not child porn, that said, it is completely inappropriate for her to be marketed in this way. I have a 6 year old daughter who loves Hannah Montana and I am very disappointed. I will be weening her off of Disney altogether. Disney has been unable to keep their female tween and teen stars from being turned to the darker side. Whether it's Disney or it's the parents, it's too late for this girl. She clearly wears the pants in the family now.
As for tarnishing her image and not making as much money. Well, I do not believe that this was a accident. They are trying to sex her up to attract a broader market.

If that photo was taken by a male photographer and not a lesbian, prosecutors would certainly consider indicting the photographer. Child Porn does not have to be hard porn to be prosecuted. No, there wasn't any frontal nudity, but the child porn laws are written so vaguely (for a good reason, BTW) in order to deter criminals and to give prosecutors the largest leeway. The fact that an adult was with an underage teen while she was partially undressed, and photographed said teen with the intentions of distributing the photgraphs across state lines is enough to indict. Of course, the law does not apply to middle age lesbians.

Did you see these photos? If so, you are now a Sexual Offender, and required to register as such for life (good thing these laws are "vaguely written for a good reason," btw).

Diss Disney
Shannon;
The best thing you can do is what you said -you are weaning your kids off Disney. Now there's something every parent should do. If Hollywood is a cesspool, Disney is the slime. Disney has nothing for any kids whose parents have any concern or self-respect.
And it's not just Miley either. Just look at their shows- if you can keep your sanity long enough. Miley's a lost cause. This was bound to happen from the word go. To not have seen this coming would have been the height of ignorance.

It's good to know that people like you endorse child abuse. I suppose using your logic the audience that watched Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake during the Super Bowl halftime show a few years ago were buyers of porn.

Apparently, you have find nothing in the least bit wrong with an underage teen underdressing in front of a known lesbian photographer in order to make a trashy child erotica photo for Vanity Fair (hey, a little underage skin sells alot of copies, right?). I'm sure to people like you its edgy, artsy, avant garde, blah, blah, blah blah.

She and her handlers thought this would go under the radar. When it didn't and the backlash came they quickly apologized realizing they were biting the hand that feeds them.
Or best construction they had a lapse in judgment and are truly apologetic and regret participating.
Eph 4:17-19
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of[fn4] the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,
having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;
who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
This country, the media and marketing moguls of today are not submitted to God and thus you get the ads you can't watch with your kids and the rest of it.
