Still Think She Should Step Down?
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 10:45 PM

Tonight's debate was a great one; much better than the presidential debate.  The 90 minutes flew by.  Frankly, I think Palin should have ended by challenging Biden to another debate.  It could have been humorous, if nothing else.  And if it did happen, it would have provided us with some additional entertainment.

Clearly, Palin was charming and impressive tonight.  She connected with average Americans both through her rhetoric -- as well as by looking directly at us through the camera.  This was especially effective during her closing remarks.

Biden did well, too, but based on the expectations, I think tonight was a net plus for McCain-Palin.

To me, the big story is that Palin demonstrated a dramatic improvement over her recent interviews.  Americans don't expect a vice presidential candidate like Palin -- "a novice on the national political stage" -- to start off knowing everything, but they do hope to see that a vice presidential candidate has the ability to learn quickly.  She does.  Keep in mind, Obama has had something like 19 months to become the debater he is today.  Palin has had only a month, or so.  Palin's performance tonight, which was a vast improvement over her recent interviews, if nothing else, demonstrates that she is a very quick learner.

Frank Luntz is On!
Nearly all the Frank Luntz focus group folks raise their hand to say the obvious:

SARAH WINS!

I hope this also means that McCain wins.

I don't think it'll make a huge difference in the polls, because Biden did pretty good, aside from being a boring old Washington liberal insider.

Obviously, Obama should have picked Clinton or Richardson.

McCain made EXACTLY the right choice with Palin.

She did say they should debate again

Everyone loves Sarah
There is no debate about that. But even if she had crushed Biden, who is a likable guy himself, it would not have changed the problem with the ticket. Remember, Lloyd Bentsen demolished Dan Quayle in 1988 but Dukakis still lost in a landslide.

I DO think she could have spiced up her presentation with more "maverick" references. Every other word just wasn't enough.

My mother said ...
just now after watching the debate, that Palin is "so down to earth." That's the appeal. She's real. The other guy? :)

Say it ain't so, Joe
Just finished watching the vice presidential debate. Two thoughts: 1. Wow! Governor Palin came off as normal, authentic, likeable, and knowledgeable. 2. There will be a clip on YouTube within a few hours of Senator Biden saying, "Bush's, Bush's, Bush's" where every time he said "Bush's" it sounded like bushes, with the last syllable a squeaky higher pitch than the first one.

Palin PUNKS the Media!
Remember when the liberal media haters went after Palin to the point that it hyped her convention speech?

And Palin proceeded to knock it outta the park!

Remember when the liberal media haters went after Palin to the point that they hyped her first debate perfomance?

And millions watched as she connected with them?

Will the media ever, ever learn?

BTW, Ifil did great tonight, no bias detected.

Little or No Net Change
Palin was speaking to the right-wing base; the points you perceive her as making were nothing but affirmations of the beliefs you already hold. Biden was much more substantive, and will have done significant good in convincing people of the solidity of the Obama/Biden ticket.

Palin did no harm, but also didn't get McCain/Palin any votes that they otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Biden almost certainly moved some votes from undecided into the Democratic column.

She was winking and smirking to Hugh Hewitt.

She was memorized and scripted. Biden ate her up.
And she thinks she should have MORE POWER as VP?

Excellent leader...
...and only the followers are surprised.

Sarah Palin is a master communicator in the true sense of the word--not the slicko Humpty Dumpster Washington insider double-talk we've come to loathe.

Most Americans (over say, 30) are naturally leary of a polished performer so that if there is a topic or two that they do not speak about in scholarly fashion, what we look for to fill the gap (and there was barely an inch opened this evening) is a person of integrity, confidence, warm sincerity and leadership.

That translates to one who will not be thrown by the gotcha gang in the media, but who you sense will find proceed to find out the answers that matter most and will live by them, not losing her way.

It is what Americans long for now, and we are blessed with this VP pick and her future on behalf of ours.

What grace Sarah Palin demonstrated after several weeks of boorish, unAmerican self-degradation from the opposition party. Kudos to Joe Biden for not going there. He has a likable warmth himself, and he clearly enjoyed his debate partner for the right reasons.

A big boost to America tonight.
eddie writes: Thursday, October, 02, 2008 11:05 PM
First, kudos to Gwen Ifill. She rose

above her self-interests and did an excellent and very professional job.

Second, she knocked it out of the park.

She reduced Biden to tears.

A thirty-six year member of the greatest deliberative body in the word who has debated in that body for all those issues was reduced to a simple reciter of data. He was boring and pedantic. She was illuminating and sparkled.

Boring Joe he truly was.

Whew!
Big, big sigh of relief out here in Bible and gun-clinging country. She did great. And when she talks about change it is more believable than someone who has been in the Senate for 30 plus years. She got better as the night went on. It irks me that Katie Couric let Claire McCaskell get away with saying that Palin didn't note anything they would do differently than Bush. I know she addressed that question directly, I think with the issue of Afganistan if I remember right. And she definitely dodged questions, but so did Biden. Ifill asked them both to name their Achilles heel, neither answered, just talked about their strengths. I hate it that the pro-life issue didn't come up, though. Unless it was in the very first part of the debate that I missed. And, like McCain, she missed so many good talking points. They need to listen to Rush and Hannity. Or maybe it is all part of the same strategy Bush used to beat Kerry and Gore...appeal to the heart, not the head. Anyway, I'm happy tonight. I say a tie goes to Palin!
Cheryl writes: Thursday, October, 02, 2008 11:11 PM

Sounds like Palin was Palin. Time to let Cuda be Cuda. I agree, the mistake her is surrendering her to the McHandlers. Rush, Coulter, Sean, Newt and some other leaders with a bit of cash should hire Morris to run her last 30 days and 2012.
Morris pointed out to Oh? Really? how Maverick refused to enage on the Bail Out, caved to his Inside the Belt Loop Senate buds (can you say Gang 14) and BLEW a winning election hand because he couldn't bring himself to ally with House Conservatives--can you say "Mack the Knife AGAIN!

P.S. Yes, I wish the McCain ticket would not follow the deluded regarding the global warming religion (for global taxation and control) and fighting greedy Wall St. when it's really greedy government stealing from both Wall St. and Main St., but we, the people, need to do our job in persuading as well. The take-down of the shake-down is going to take years, it's so entrenched.

Also, Ifil should've had the integrity to forego this moderator opportunity, given her conflict of interest, but we are used to the Dems escaping ethical responsibility on such matters.

She did a good job--so Sandra Bernhard breakdown, lucky us--but when are the Republicans going to demand someone besides left-wing Dems to handle this? Where are our talk radio hosts and Fox? More substantive questions would've been asked had our side moderated. (C'mon even most gays couldn't care less about "gay marriage". They know it's an activist puppet show fronting for the enemy to ruin our institutions. Tiresome theatrics.)

simply because she spoke in full sentences. It would be an embaressment to have her be the VP for the USA. She would be GREAT for a talk-show host, but as a political leader, I think not.

Low expectations worked
Palin knows her strengths and uses them. She looks good and connects with the audience. (Of course, she's a former sportcaster.) She definitely won on personality, against Biden, that's not difficult. But she did not have substantive answers and missed many opportunities to hit back and make some points. If she didn't know how to answer a question, she simply changed the subject. Nice trick, and Ifil let her get away with it. When we see the transcript, we will not be as impressed with her performance. She still has trouble forming complete thoughts that make sense. She falls back on rote lines that are basically meaningless.

Nothing really changed tonight, she's still unqualified for the office. Looking good on stage is great, but she still doesn't have the depth or intellect to necessary for the office - especially for pres. if she has to step in for McCain.

Sorry, it takes more than personality to be a credible VP or POTUS. The point hasn't changed that McCain didn't select someone who could take over if necessary.

PC writes: Thursday, October, 02, 2008 11:45 PM
Checking her opinions at the door
She said McCain hasn't asked her to check her opinions at the door. As far as I know, she only has one different from and it's to drill in ANWR. Other than that, what are her opinions? She's a hockey mom, yeah. She is pro-life and for traditional marriage.

I see now evidence that she has any other opinions about the issues. She's pretty much a blank slate, and maybe that's why McCain chose her.

Prez Candidates are Real Issue
Palin proved she is a competent politician. Biden reminded everyone that he is as well. They were civil and got their points across. Mission accomplished for both.

If Palin had completely swung and missed, which she obviously didn't, the campaign was over. That's the only win here. Biden only had a small window of things that he absolutley couldn't do...like spewing out a line like "listen here missey", and he managed to stay away from those.

The plus for the conservative side is that this plants everything back in the direction of the prez candidates and makes their last two debates very important. For what this "Joe Six Pack"'s opinion is worth, I believe McCain was waiting for this debate to pass before he loaded the big guns. He no longer has to waste energy defending his choice.

I agree, Ernest. What a shame and a waste.

Sarah did great. She answered the questions she could answer and dodged the others, just as Biden did - as he should have.

When it came to addressing Americans, Palin won easily. When it came to foreign policy, Biden won, which he should have.

Most Americans are focused on America right now which means Sarah is going to be the overall victor of the night.

Did she bring more people to the McCain ticket than Biden brought to the Obama ticket? My estimation is yes, she did. Does it affect the overall demographic? No.

I want to preface....
....my comments by saying I am a big supporter of Sarah Palin. The only reason I am willing to support Mccain at all is because he chose Palin as his VP (that and his opponent is a socialist).

However, IMHO, palin did good but not great. Biden, as someone pointed out, is a very likable guy. Unlike Obama he doesn't come off as an elitist or snob. He also has a much firmer grasp of the various positions (from his endless years feeding at the public trough). Palin seemed a little unsure a couple of times. She also didn't really put out any specifics.

Now, most of the people on TH (except the KOS trolls) are going to vote Mccain/Palin anyway. But did she manage to gain any new support? Let's face it, if every conservative, constitutionalist and libertarian (of which I am all three) votes for Mccain that will not be enough for him to win. He needs a majority of the moderates and independents. He should also put some efforts into picking up those blue-dog and Reagan Democrats but that's another topic all together.

To all those who think Sarah can not be an effective VP - you are wrong. Give Sarah Palin from election day until January 20th and she will rock Washington DC. Sarah Palin will put in a 15 hour day every day - she will stun all those political hacks and make Washington DC the seat of the people's government.
Since "we the people" have given the likes of the digusting politicians hanging on for dear life, filling their pockets with taxpayer money the opportunity to serve us - and got nothing but disrespect - perhaps it is time to have a VP that intends to work for "we the people".
Sarah Palin stood up against a senior senator - a man that has been in Washington for 35 years and she handled herself beautifully.
Karl Rove has documented about 8 factual errors made by Biden the walking, talking gaff machine that will say anything that pops into his head.

Do I think Palin should step down?
Absolutely.
Since when did our standards for real statesmanship sink so low?
Why haven't good Republicans risen up in mass discordance against this foolish lowering of expectations for the leaders of our nation who affect our children’s futures? Where is the knowledge, wisdom and greatness in Palin? She shows no true shade of that greatness. It's not good enough for my family, and I want to know why it's good enough for you, fellow citizen.
One of my heroes is a historian Clay Jenkinson, who portrays Thomas Jefferson on the radio. He also does Theodore Roosevelt, Merriwether Lewis (of Lewis and Clark), and several others. It was my good fortune to see him perform as Theodore Roosevelt on my birthday. He used no props (other than a period costume and Roosevelt's trademark mustache and silk hat), but he didn't need them. It was the finest and most meaningful evening of political theatre I have ever seen, or am likely to.
Clay did nothing less than reach back into time to let the greatness of Roosevelt's life shine through. He just channeled the wisdom, love of country and true concern for citizens that was the basis of Roosevelt’s presidency. Not a moment rang false. Not a word was wasted. We all sprang to our feet at the end of the performance because the truth of what being an American leader really SHOULD be leaped into our hearts through our ears and lit a fire!
There was no question, after seeing that, about what hugeness of soul, heart and mind we seek today in the men and women who we place in high office. Palin doesn't make that cut even at the 4th or 5th degree. That doesn’t mean she someday won’t, but she is unquestionably far from it today.
I want and demand better! I resent being asked to sign off on a counterfeit.
I won’t support nonsensical candidates just to win at any cost. That cost will ultimately be our greatness as a nation. No more for me and my family. We won't be voting for Palin.

The truth
I'm a Republican Joe Six pack and my wife is a solid Democrat in the JFK, Truman, Zell Miller mode. Our opinion is that Ms. Palin has just kicked a... and taken pictures. This election has just changed folks and the talking, typing, bloviating stuffy headed elites of both parties had better get out of the way of the American People. We understand something you don't; we live in the trenches and hope beyond hope that someone REALLY understands AND is in a position to do something about it. She is it. Period.
I've watched her since she became the Alaskan Governor and have been amazed. I never dreamed she would be where is she, so soon. I would hope she picks Bobby Jindal for her VP in 2012. Screw those who think she "isn't ready", we know she's been ready since the day she decided to make a difference at the PTA. Palin/McCain folks; make no doubt about it, the common folks, the vast majority, the moral majority, the backs that carry this country, have found a true LEADER.

God help her, and God bless her, she'll need both.

Sincerely,

A 5th generation Californian

Practise debating...
I support the McCain-Palin Ticket but I understand the reality of the media and debating experience. Such experience doesn't count 2 hoots in being a person of substance and able to lead, but it has its impact with the media and how people perceive others. Obama and Biden are both lawyers. I am a lawyer and I know that you are taught debating skills in law school. You are immersed in good skills on your feet...

There were many times I wished Sarah Palin had been precise and direct in addressing Biden's lies and positions. For example on the lack of regulation and the bill introduced by McCain that was shot down by the democrats, she could have used Biden's name and said, "and Mr Biden voted against regulation together with his other colleagues."She addressed the issue but seemed too shallow in, maybe being polite.

I hope the McCain campaign will help give their candidates resources to update their debating skills. They are both very smart and can easily master such skills. I am shocked that the campaign has not done something about this earlier.

Should Sarah Palin Step down?
Only once in the entire history of the nation has a vice-presidential candidate had to step down (Sen. Eagleton in 1972). That was because Mr. Eagleton had a mental illness history. So, I never thought that Gov. Palin should step down, no matter how uninformed or stupid she was. Sen. McCain is the republican presidential candidate and he picked Gov. Palin. We have to defer to his judgement. If we are going to trust him with the nuclear arsenal, obviously we have to trust him in this matter.

I do not think that Gov. Palin is stupid (probably a lot smarter than our current president). She appears to be not well read or particularly curious. Also, when she does not know the answer, instead of just saying that, she tends to bulls--t a lot. Despite these attributes that I do not like, She should definitely stay on the ticket. She is indeed energizing the base, which was not particularly enthusiastic about Mr. McCain till he picked her.

I am absolutely not "playing ignorant". The word "baby" is not a sexist endearment. It has been used many times in pop culture as an actual term of endearment, not a sexual one.

Perhaps "Baby" has some deviant sexual connotation in YOUR culture, but it doesn't in mine. In my culture, a "baby" is just that--a baby! And when a friend or coworker has a baby, we celebrate. Guess who always contributes the most to the baby shower? The conservatives, who are reveling, not in a metaphor, but in--guess what--an actual baby!

The Debate
Palin's performance in the debate tonight reminded me of a student who cramed for a test and could only remember some of the answers so she filled in the blanks with rheteric when her memory failed her ! Problem is when you cram for a test you seldom remember what you memorized a few days later .Now as I see it I would rather have a VP who is talking from experience and not from memorization .
The worst thing she said tonight was that she agreed with Cheney on his view of what a VP's role is .Biden had to explain to her that the Constitution clearly states that the VP is a part of the executive branch ,"unlike Cheney's version that he is part of the legislative branch," the VP's role is to assist the President and he is only to vote in the Senate when there is a tie vote .Cheney misused his powers as VP and now Palin wants to do the same following in Cheney's footsteps .Palin has no clear understanding of what her role as a VP should be.
Biden clearly won the debate hands down .
I don't think her folksy demeanor or I can have a beer with you attitude should be cause for anyone to vote for her .We are voting for a VP not for Ms.popularity .Knowledge ,experience and common sense should be most important .

I wished that McCain and Palin would address the issue of what is happening aroung the world, that the left media is ignoring. (of course it is against their agenda.) There is starvation in countries who are growing fuel instead of food. Go do your own research.
As for global warming, when people are complaining about colder weather. People will be ready to string Gore up for all of his blatant lies, especially when they are starving because of lack of food. Let's keep it straight. The lack of food is due to stupid politics not over population.
A couple more winters like last year and cool summers like this one, global warming will become a nonissue.
It amazes me how Biden is out of touch with the rest of America who recognized that Global Warming is not even real science.

I did not watch the debate last night. I was working. Watching the morning news on NBC this morning I decided to mute the TV when the analysis of the debate came on.

What I noticed, but did not expect, were the camera angles. There were many more solo shots of Biden speaking than Palin. There were more shots of Palin and Biden together than Palin separately. There were more shots of Biden separately than there was Palin and Biden together. In all there were about 4 times more solo shots of Biden than Palen.

I did not start out looking for this, but it was obvious as the report continued.

At first I thought it was a real mistake not to have more specifics from Palin but then as she said the facts would get checked later. So now I see her brilliance in letting Biden spew.

Although it maybe politically correct to disassociate with Bush not to point out that there has been growth in the economy for most of the Bush administration seems to be lame if not cowardise for republicans.

Obama/Biden are planning an attack on Pakistan? Was that why Obama went to Europe, to gather U.N. support? What troops will Germany supply? Will they actually fight, they have a non-intervention strategy in Afganistan which says don't shoot unless shot at (no wonder Afganistan is going backwards).

Why are we still buying the lie that Sarah did poorly in her interviews? I read the transcript for the Gibson interview and she did great! It's the EDITORS who made it LOOK like she didn't do well. I could go up to this article and make it sound like Matt Lewis is telling us to vote for Obama by just editing out a few words here and there. Here I'll show you. My changes are in quotes.

Tonight's debate was a great one; much better than the presidential debate. The 90 minutes flew by. Frankly, I think Palin should have ended by challenging Biden to another debate. It could have been humorous, if nothing else. And if it did happen, "Palin" would have provided us with some additional entertainment.

Clearly, Palin was charming. ".." She connected with average Americans "..." by looking directly at us through the camera. "..."

Biden did well. "..."

"..."Americans don't "want" a vice presidential candidate like Palin -- "a novice on the national political stage". "..." Keep in mind, Obama has "..." become the debater he is today "because of his vast experience"."..." Palin's performance tonight, "..." was a vast improvement over her recent interviews, if nothing else."..."

See how simple that is to change the entire tone of the piece and I didn't add anything that really changed the facts, I just deleted anything that praised Palin.

So DON'T believe the lie that she didn't do well in her interviews. Find and read the full transcripts before you make a decision.

Wonder how long it will take me
to figure out the players here?

It appears that there are the agitators who post just to snipe at the Republican ticket. These are the KOS/Huff Post crowd who troll other sites just to bash.

There must be some true Independents who are trying to figure out which side they want to vote for even though it's hard to see how someone could be at that point a month before the election.

Then there are the posters who want the Republican ticket to win because they support its position.

There are posters who support the Republican ticket because they think the Obama/Biden ticket is a disaster for the country.

And then there are people who are willing to let Obama win because they are upset that their guy -Paul/Huckabee/Romney isn't on the Republican ticket and/or the ticket isn't conservative enough. They will "punish" the country because their candidate didn't get picked.

I just can't figure out which group the "dump Sarah" people are in.

The numbers cited by Jordan came from CNN.

There have been two articles in the past two months, one by Drudge, the other by a newspaper, which stated something like the following: watched FOX. (I might be off on the figures, but these are close)

38 percent of folks who watch FOX are republicans.
27 percent of folks who watch FOX are democrats.
The rest are independents.

I don't recall the numbers for CNN and MSNBC, but the vast majority of viewers on these channels were democrats.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the numbers for Sarah were lots less than for BIIDEN on CNN and CBS. I don't recall the exact numbers, but the FOX poll was way, way in favor of Sarah.

Palin tripped over "bar"{
The pundits set the bar so low for Palin that she tripped over it on her way up the stairs to the debate stage. Palin showed us that she could be a one issue President if McCain is unable to finish his term. That one issue is Energy. Palin refused to answer any of the questions posed by the moderator and kept bringing the topic back to Energy. I found her refusal to answer the questions to be evidence that she is not prepared to lead this country. If she has a 3AM moment what is she going to do? .... change the topic? Yet it was amusing to hear the pundits talk about what a great job Palin did .... it reminded me of all those people who said what a great job Bush would do even though he showed that his IQ was not among the brightest. I hope those who voted for Bush twice learned their lesson about what will happen if you vote for an average joe sixpack ... we'll be stuck with an economy like the one we have now. On the other hand Biden did an Excellent job, he clearly won the debate.

It really is amazing to go on the liberal sites and see the very sincere folks who believe 100% that Biden cleaned Palin's clock. Then, when you go on these sites it is exactly the opposite. Both sides adamantly argue their position and both are convinced they are right. I do not mind genuine disagreement, but I get very frustrated with the oh so personal and vicious attacks. For me, i think Palin came across as she wanted to...joe sixpack, hockey mom. In places, she was charming. Overall, I felt she had very little depth, that she had memorized the talking points and was sticking to those points, even if that was not the question that was being asked. She did not seem dumb, just that her understanding of the issues was not very deep...kind of like most of us who are joe sixpacks or hockey moms. The question is, do we want someone who has the same depth of knowledge and understanding that we have to be the Pres or VP? My answer to that is a resounding no. I want them to know and understand so much more than the average joe. To me, there is way too much at stake.

I am deeply saddened at the turn that the Presidential campaign has taken. Yes, people are sick of Washington, yet being sick of Washington does not say put someone like Sarah Palin in office. I am shocked at anyone who says that she did well last night. Yes, she remained calm, but she did not say anything with any substance and she did not and could not state what McCain stands for. She could, however, state what she would change if McCain died. Which leads me to my next point, with McCain being 72, it is highly likely that he will not live through the next 4 years -I am fearful for the hands the country would be left in. At least where Obama falters, Biden picks up. Palin does not balance the Republican ticket at all. Next, she is not common - her family is sort of dysfunctional! It is bad enough that the divorce rate is sky high and teenage pregnancy. Is this the message and example we want displayed for America - I don’t! Her “beliefs” say that it is okay to be pregnant and a teen and it is even okay to force teenagers (the young man obviously does not want to marry the pregnant girl) to get married -what happened to encouraging teenagers to go to college? I don’t want normal in the White House, I want someone who I will be/feel comfortable with in office. She obviously cannot run her family - I am not opposed to women being in office; I am opposed to Sarah Palin. Where is America’s sense of respect?!

Sarah Palin is gutsy, determined, and self-possessed. She's also uninformed and stunningly inarticulate. This is why the McCain campaign has announced that she will not give any interviews or appear on any news programs, in spite of her "triumphant" performance in the debate. When she can read or recite from rehearsed bullet points, she's fine (if somewhat off topic), but when she must think and speak spontaneously, she's a disaster.

This is a clear case of "The Emperor's New Clothes" and it's going to cause McCain to lose the election by an even larger margin than he would have anyway. What on Earth was he thinking?

If Americans found her performance to be anything but a performance (rather than adept, knowledgeable, thoughtful insight), then there is no wonder this country is heading into the crapper.

Absolutely Palin Should Step Down
She is not ready for high public office. How she ever got elected in Alaska is conundrum but it's Alaska's problem and they can sort it out.

Stepping Down Will Finish McCain
Everyone knows it. This thing is going downhill faster that Michael Moore chasing a doughut. It is over but she was not the reason. Yes, she was a gamble that, regardless of what everyone wants believe, was a mistake. She was clearly not the most informed candidate. Joe Biden looked well informed and presidential.

It was like the pretty, best student debating the Principal. Her avoiding the questions just reinforced what everyone thinks, not seasoned and not ready. Not now, maybe never.

To even say out loud she won is sad and to be honest, wishful thinking. She is not even a real part of the McCain camp as displayed when she had to read about the Michigan pull out in the paper.

Obama and Biden will take this handily and they deserve it. Better campaign and better candidates. Truth is a bitter pill.

Don't Forget Bush
The saddest comment on our times is the fact that Bush handles basked in ther fact that after his debate with Al Gore when he stammered his way around and fractured the english language, his handleers said, "He showed the American people he is not a moron."

Fantastic.

Now your jumping up and down because Sarah Palin can remember talking points? For god's sake she did not answer half of the questions she was asked?
Greg writes: Saturday, October, 04, 2008 3:06 PM
Get serious
Does anybody REALLY buy that folksy routine? Think about it: do you know anybody anywhere outside of a HeeHaw rerun that crams in that much vernacular in a sentence?

Is anyone impressed by someone who's too cowardly to answer the questions asked of her, and tries to cover for it by taking on a "standing up to the liberal media" pose?

Is anyone impressed by answers which are just fragments of a stump speech?

Are you people on the right serious at all? Do you care at all about the future of this country? Have you been paying attention the last eight years? Sarah Palin is George Bush. By choosing her as a running mate, John McCain has shown he is willing to sell this country down the river to get elected.
Shelly writes: Saturday, October, 04, 2008 3:31 PM
Yes - Palin should step down
I agree with Greg - Palin is nothing but a gimmick. Her routine during the debate was to recite rote memorized lines to questions that were pertinent or not. When she didn't know what to say she would provide her nonsensical blather or bring on the cutesy stuff.

I cannot understand why people buy this facade of down-home folsky maverick. Does McCain think all conservatives are stupid and just drink the Kool-aid? As a conservative and a woman I am highly offended at the Palin pick.

SHELLY a closet democrat, full of it!
You should have the brains Lady Sarah has, even 10% then you might have some observational sense!
No point in telling you how bright and success-ful her wisdom and judgment has been, which her record depicts. This reality is lost in your confused mindthink, because you are too misinformed or ignorant to get it! Sarah Palin, the real deal, best of the rest will probably be the first woman President! Yes indeed she did know what to say but the one eye, one ear anti-Palin crowds didn't hear it obviously. Get real!
Greg writes: Saturday, October, 04, 2008 4:03 PM
Thanks Shelly
It took integrity for you to say that here.

Oh, yeah: Yea! Someone read my comment!

Palin did say she wanted further debates
Would Joe have the courage to debate further?
We know Obama turned down the townhall debates offered! ATTN; GREGG, as a southern bell, a very feminine, informal lady, I resent those 'shallow', mean spirited remarks that Sarah is cutesy/folksy. Thank goodness she is! You don't know a good thing when you hear it. Is that the best you've got? I suspect now you will fabricate a false spin that she isn't a bright, accomplished, hard working great Govenor!
Ex Democrat

Shirley, you don't fool me Joes your man
If you believe Sarah is selfish etc., let me sell you the Brooklyn Bridge! Check out Biden and 'O's past years of charitable donations.
Joe is beyond stingy and the tightfisted Obamas sharing only averaged 2%, until this past year. For political expediency they gave approx., 5%. Joe & 'O' WANT US TO SHARE THE WEALTH WHILE THEY HOLD ON TO THEIRS! WHAT KIND OF LEADERSHIP IS THAT?? EX DEMOCRAT
miss vicky writes: Saturday, October, 04, 2008 5:00 PM
Confused Joe many words didn't ring true
While lady Sarah pronounced a name wrong, to her credit her words were on target. To expect either of them to give much detail, in short time periods is being unrealistic. The record depicts that Biden, while talking up a storm, got so much of it wrong. Words just words, ha! Well, I'd rather hear down to earth, easily understood, talk that 'covers' peoples lives, then the past history lessons Joes career brings. He didn't even get many such opinions right! The smitten misled 'O' and Joe groupies etc., give them too much credit and Palin too little! The proof is in their failure to understand her great wisdom and command in the debate! Listen again with an unbiased, open mind! I won't hold my breath. Ex Democrat
miss vicky writes: Saturday, October, 04, 2008 5:14 PM
Tonya/Bobby been drinking the 'O'koolaid
I've got news for you. Your observation awareness leaves much to be desired. So, slow Joe, after a 'long' career, can talk about and impress you with the many experiences he's had, big deal! Guess it didn't occur to you that he got many of those answers/words wrong?! Maybe you conveniently overlook this fact to make a false case against the bright Palin and her family! Shameful. You have never met her family, yet you call them dysfunctional etc,. I won't bother to educate you, you're in your own fantasy world and you see evil lurking in every corner! God help America with such ignorance casting a vote!

I concur completely. Of the 4 Obama is the most leftist with Biden a few notches to the right. I would say that McC is much more of a centrist than me, so he should pull alot of the middle votes. Palin is a solid conservative (I hope she does not get tainted being so close to McC).

There are an awful lot of bitter people in the flyover states that are clinging to their bibles and guns. Sarah did a lot to quell the fears of those people.

If we vote for Obama, we will get Socialism hard. If we vote for McCain, will get Socialism lite. And assuming McCain wins we get Palin; if we can keep Sarah as she is now, she might be able to undo Socialims lite.

To the trolls out there:
As for "lipstick" and "pigs", I think the pig on Nov 5 will be BHO. Get your lipstick ready.

As for speaking without saying anything, well we lived thru Carter, Clinton, Nancy, Reid, and now Biden - we can live thru Palin.

And if you were listening, when Sarah walked out and greeted Joe at the beginning, she specifically asked, "May I call you Joe?" To which Joe replied, "Yes".

But I know I did not touch on all of your various and asundry problems with Palin. I also know that nothing I could say would stop your PDS. You people just love living with anger.

Palin

The facts are she was given the questions to the debate last month. The mcCain/Palin campaign has had several weeks to prepare her with fool proof answers. Is she going to have this luxury in real life, during a real crisis? It is a safe bet judging by past interviews she has an inability to listen to questions and process them into answers. I say we have a real debate, questions unknown.
ajhil writes: Saturday, October, 04, 2008 7:04 PM
Not quite.
"Obama has had something like 19 months to become the debater he is today. Palin has had only a month, or so. ... [She's] a very quick learner."

In fact, Palin has been in politics for quite a while, first as Mayor of Wasilla, then as Governor of Alaska; and she's debated before too, notably during the Alaska gubenatorial campaign.
There's no doubt she's a quick study; the problem lies in her understanding and her ability to express herself in anything other than scripted sound bites. So far there's little evidence of either.
Having small town sensibilities may be a virtue (although I'm not convinced of it); but provincialism and ignorance are definitely not desirable attributes in a Vice President.

In a word, Yes!
I am sick, sick from all the fanfare over this lady. Let us look at facts.

1. She got schooled by the worst news anchor in history

2. She has proven over and again that she is not ready for prime time and one debate against the dumbest man in the senate proves nothing.

3. Others may not think so, but she has the most annoying voice I have ever heard, I do not want to here it over the next four to God forbid, 16 years. Is she from Canada or something aye? I am just waiting for the McKenzies to give their support aye.

4. She is still running with John McCain. Any conservative must realize that she changes nothing.

In Closing:

Give us a real choice Republicans, Obama is a nightmare, that nightmare got much more scary and twisted when he invited the stupidest man in the senate on his ticket. (insurance against Obama's assassination). However, both tickets are complete horror shows. On the one hand you have an anti-American on the other a senial old coot with his teenage daughter as vice president. We are totally screwed.

Despite the pessimism, please vote yes on Prop. 8 in California and 102 in Arizona.

Biden Victory Palin Loss
It's quite obvious that Biden won that debate because he had substance. You can't give Palin the victory because she ducked a lot of questions and kept changing the subject. Biden won simply because every time she switched the topic, Biden had a very good answer.

Palin lied...You can see that everything she had to say everything that she memorized for this debate. You can see when she didn't know about a particular topic she began to stutter and stopped winking at the camera.

I don't represent Joe Six Pack, and I never had a Hockey mom. Secondly I don't want a regular person in office. Would let a regular person do open heart surgery on you? Would you let a regular person be the principal of your child's school? I don't think so...You would want qualified people who can make logical decisions in the highest office this country has.

Be real folks...Palin only did so well because the standard was set so low...

Did I bring up the fact that I was LDS? No. You did, and in a very 'gotcha' way.

Comapssion. Palin has none. She uses her cute kids as photo ops. She's a breeder, not a caretaker. Compassion. I have it. At least I think I do. I care for the sick, provide to the poor, care for my children, mow my own lawn and do what it takes to be a good person. I'm not on the stump making joesixpack who's too drunk with a bud in one handthe bible in the other hand thinking that she was sent to us from God. Too many conservatives feel just the same as me. she's not ready for prime time, and McCain is an idiot.

Don't blame me for 4 years of Obama. Blame the bigots and McCain.

Palin
Personally, I do not watch the debates because I consider them a waste of time as they are currently formatted. The way they are formatted the candidates are limited in the amount of time that they have to state their views and as a result are rushed in their answers and it is easy for them to convey a view that they really do not mean. The debates should be more open giving them time to get their point of view across, such as the Lincoln-Douglas style of debate that Hillary Clinton challenged Barack Obama to a few months ago but he was too much of a coward to accept. If he is afraid to have an open debate with a female member of his own party how does he expect to deal with foreign diplomats and leaders who are hostile to our country? Perhaps he would just run away and hide under his bed in the hope that they will just go away.

From the bits and pieces of the VP debate that I saw I'd say Palin more than held her own against Joe Biden, Mr. Plagerism. Before she was added to the GOP ticket I was not even considering voting for McCain. I don't like him and I don't trust him. He's a Liberal pretending to be a Conservative. His record shows that. Palin, on the other hand, is a true Conservative and because of her I am at least considering voting for the GOP ticket, though I haven't made up my mind yet. The only thing I can say for certain is that under no circumstances will I ever vote for Barack Obama. Should Palin be dropped from the ticket for any reason it would ensure that I not vote for McCain.

I had planned on voting for a third party candidate this year: Bob Barr. I said I'd vote for him unless he said or did something stupid. Well he did. He said he wanted Ron Paul for his VP. So, I'm back to not knowing who I will vote for this year.
