Whitney files for divorce from Bobby?
And...
Air America files for bankruptcy?
Man, my new judgement is way off. I just...I had no idea. Heh.
The headline on the ThinkProgress post on the Air America story is priceless:
Air America to Declare Bankruptcy, But Progressive Radio Remains Strong
Ahh, but of course. This clearly has nothing to do with whether the progressive talk radio format is a viable business model.
The right wing is sure to seize on Air America’s financial woes as a sign that progressive talk radio is unpopular. In fact, Air America succeeded at creating something that didn’t exist: the progressive talk radio format. That format is now established and strong and will continue with or without Air America. Uh-huh. They created a format, and the format was sooo sucessful and strong that it necessitated filing for bankruptcy. Let me try writing a Think Progress story:
Whitney Files For Divorce From Bobby, but Crack-Head Pop Star Marriages Remain Strong
Bitter members of New Edition and Mariah Carey are sure to seize on the Houston-Brown divorce proceedings as a sign that the marriage is not working and the divorce will become just another stepping stone to career oblivion for the 80s icons. In fact, Houston and Brown succeeded at creating something that didn't exist: a loving long-term union between a fallen, drug-addicted pop princess and a washed-up, coattail-riding egomaniac, which only in the last several years succeeded in ruining the careers of both. That format is now established and strong and will continue with or without Whitney and Bobby. Update: Ace reveals the secret plot. Rove, you genius!

Air America no more created progressive talk radio than Rush Limbaugh created conservative talk radio. Both formats existed long ago. The difference is that Limbaugh's commercial success has helped make his conservative "competitors" more successful. Air America's financial peccadillos and general lack of audience will scare off radio station programming buyers for a generation. Good riddance. The idea of Al Franken living out of a shopping cart is not an unpleasant one. |

MKH,
Can't you just see Bobby & Whitney casually using each other's song titles in conversation with one another ? I think this is how it all went down; Bobby to Whitney: "Baby, you know I Will Always Love You---cause we have The Greatest Love of All. Now why'd ya have to go and serve me with divorce papers like that !?" Whitney to Bobby: "It's My Prerogative."

A voice purchased by the power of the affluent is doomed to failure, and so we should respond to this latest example of arrogance and hubris by our liberal elite by raising our glasses in a toast to the vindication of justice in a free society.
It may take years, but the genesis of conservative talk radio will ultimately be seen as the informational corrective to an institutionalized, if tacit hegemony by the left, which controls nearly every major news organization.
President Bush's speech on the anniversary of 911 was an apt example. Billed as a largely apolitical speech, it inevitably referenced the major event facing our nation--i.e., war--and so the left excoriated him for "politicizing" 9/11.
In a classic case of political retributive justice, the Democrats are finally being repaid for their protracted and craven exploitation of our media which inherently transmitted political messages in every venue, from advertizing to entertainment. Now, in a fit of horror, they accuse Republicans of playing politics on an occasion when we should refrain from such petty squabbles.
It's a delicious irony and one that heralds a more level political battlefield.

Progessive radio will live on: it's called National Public Radio. Of course that wouldn't survive either, if not for subsidies. |

|
I've been to the Air America website several times today and there's still no mention on their website of their bankruptcy. Looks as if they're in a little bit of denial. |

"No Great Loss." |

I have sacrificed a small portion of my precious time trying to listen to ANY leftwing radio drivvel...it is EXCRUCIATING. Whether it be local or national, it is universally depressing and permeated with dishonesty. This of course only proves my Truth of Life #3-The foundation of liberalism is dishonesty. |

They created something from nothing, and for a while it was there, and now its gone again and there's nothing, but hey, another moral victory! |
