I agree that if there could be e televised event where both political parties could present their ideas on healthcare reform it would be a positive thing; however, Obamao controls the mic and the pulpit, therefore the discussion.
He wants a bi-partisan bill, but his idea of bi-partisan is the Republicans support the Democrat bill. Why is it that the Republicans get hammers for being partisan by opposing the plan that they had little to no input on while the Democrats get painted as the ones reaching across the isle, when, in fact, they are as partisan, if not more so than the Republicans?
Here are some ideas that I'd like to see Obamoa and his minions address and consider when discussing healthcare reform:
1) Tort reform, and why they are so afraid of the trial lawyers that they won't implement REAL tort reform as part of the bill
2) Allowing individuals and companies to purchase health insurance across state lines. And by this, I mean really open it up - not that scam approach in the senate version. Let's see an open discussion on why this is so difficult
3) Tax breaks for individuals allowing them to deduct their health insurance premiums.
4) Allow individuals, small businesses, and trade associations to pool together and acquire health insurance at lower prices, the same way large corporations and labor unions do.
Let's have those discussions instead of just giving the President a forum for lecturing the Republicans on obstructionism, which is what this has the potential to be. |
As we Texans would say...Obama is up to his knees in bullcrap and trying to make it smell better by playing mind games with the American people by inticing Republicans to join him, so we all can be knee deep in bull crap! |
Jim, I didn't know that this was your site. Gosh, I should have known. Sorry, I'll just go away. (Just kidding.) |

Some friendly advice. Go somewhere else to be a scold, or ignore comments on this and other threads that you don't like. The rest of us do not try to control what other people say. If we don't like the conversation(s), we move on. |

This thread has become nothing better than a virtual food fight.
Instead of fighting, could we get back to basics? What is the real answer to this problem?
My response is throw them out in 2010, and go to as many Tea Parties as you can.
What are you blathering about now? Wellpoint what? WTF does this have to do with your obstructionism allegation against the GOP? The Dems had 7 months that they worked on healthcare with a super majority in the Senate and overwhelming numbers in the House and they couldn't get it passed. Give it up, Coop. You've got Obama all over your face. You stepped in some deep Barry with your allegation that you then said was moot. What kind of drugs are you on? LOL I haven't this many laughs in a long time. |
What a maroon. Have you anything remotely clever to say? You are an embarrassment to humanity. |
And you wonder why the insurance industry was in bed with Obama? |
The much vaunted Chicago political machine? You've got to be kidding. He's STILL focused on heatlhcare, post Brown? He's a certifiable nut. The mid terms are around the corner. Is he in the pocket of the Republicans? Must be. There is no other rationale explanation for his irrational behavior.
We're going to be subjected to more talk about global warming, healthcare and stimulus packages? for another NINE months?
This meets the real definition of torture.
He's single-handedly destroying the Demoratic Party, which may be a good thing.
The Wellpoint study "shows that "between 2010 and 2019 the cumulative increases in the cost of a typical family policy under this reform proposal will be approximately $20,700 more than it would be under the current system."
I guess that means we better be afraid by what the captains of the insurance companies proffer. They couldn't possibly have a conflict of interest. |
That is exactly my point to Coopmeister. But now he has informed me that his own allegation is moot. A guy who dismisses his own comments. Amazing. ;) |
Moot point? It's YOUR point, Coop. Are you saying your own allegation that the GOP is obstructing passage of Obama care is moot? LOL Admit it, Coop, you stepped in it when you made the accusation. Now, you know you can't justify your allegation, so you are desperately trying to obfuscate things. Just like Obama's desperation hail Mary conference where he wants the GOP to walk into a bear trap he intends to set for them. Heck, we can all smell Barry's desperation through the internet for Pete's sake. Now that is desperate.
From now on we'll all remind you that whatever you say, it's all moot. Pay no attention to yourself. LOL |
I guess Obama was talking about cooperation here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jifjRVLVjzA when he said, "I don't want people who created this mess to do any of the talking. I want them to get out of the way..."
or how about here: http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/11/obamapelosi_to_healt h_insurers.html
"The study shows that "between 2010 and 2019 the cumulative increases in the cost of a typical family policy under this reform proposal will be approximately $20,700 more than it would be under the current system." (Emphasis mine.)
Rather than challenge the study's results on merit, Obama and Pelosi wasted no time demonizing the health insurance industry with hyperbole and rhetoric. And then Pelosi lowered the boom, expressing "tremendous interest" in revoking the industry's decades-old antitrust exemption. This proved to be no empty threat, as the Democrat-run House Judiciary Committee promptly passed a bill to do exactly that."
Sure sounds they were interested in debate. |
Lets hear the Republicans argue their ideas on national TV |
To answer your question, there are a number of procedural votes such as invoking cloture on a bill which require a super majority in the Senate. The more interesting question if this is such a good bill how come the Dems didn't pass it when they had a super majority in the Senate? |
LOL. Answer the obstruction question, Coop. Stop being evasive and dissembling and anwer the question. |
The country needs healthcare reform. For many reasons.
If the Repubs argue the value of their ideas on TV, how is that "signing on to Obama ideas?"
Your response is lame. Let's view all the Republican ideas in full view of interested Americans. Many are already in House and Senate bills, but let us review what should be there.
said: "JimPVA This president has been adamant about wanting a bi-partisan healthcare reform bill. Scrutiny is for all who watch the debate on TV."
That is an unbelievably lame response. Sure, he wants the Reps to sign on to HIS plan so they take the heat too. Remember, dissent is the highest form of patriotism. So they are being patriotic in not supporting Obama's plan. You said the Reps have been obstructing Obama's reform. The Dems have the votes to pass it without the GOP. Now, answer my question about how the GOP can obstruct a Congress in control of the Dems.
You were one of those kids who used to pout and say "I'm taking my marbles home.."
Sure, I'm bi-partisian as long as everybody does what I say. |
For the last year, this president, and his party of progressives, has totally shut out all republicans from pretty much any, and all debate. I would suggest that all republicans in the house, and senate "stand down", and let this white house "bury itself" politically, and not be involved in ANY "ownership" of anything this administration tries to "impose" on the American people! |
This president has been adamant about wanting a bi-partisan healthcare reform bill.
Scrutiny is for all who watch the debate on TV.
Calm down, old hide!
"stop obstructing and let's hear them, live from DC. So they can be scrutinized and determined whether or not they are in the realm of realistic.
Can we assume the ones "scrutinizing and determining whether or not," might be only Democrats? --Uh, huh . . .
We had a date with your prince on C-Span and he forgot about us. We never got the chance to obstruct. Could ewe tell us why?
Please explain how a Congress controlled by Dems with a super majority in the Senate can be obstructed by the GOP? My publik skrool civics taught that 60 Senators fm the same party and a House controlled overwhelmingly by the same party can pass bills without support from the minority party in both houses. Please RSVP. |
If Obama will just do this on every key issue that matters to leftist ideologues, then we'll be just fine. Observe the process:
1. Shut out dissenting voices for 1 year. 2. Get nowhere 3. State that you want to listen to dissenting voices 4. Don't. Lose several major elections. 5. State again that you want to listen to dissenting voices and actually do so. 6. Pretend to deliver on #5 above. 7. Lose more elections 8. Lose more elections.
Works for me.
The whiney chant of all those "ignored" good Republican ideas deserves a TV camera... and the AMerican voting public as audience
If they are so good, stop obstructing and let's hear them, live from DC. So they can be scrutinized and determined whether or not they are in the realm of realistic. |
Bi'Partisan meeting, the facts will contradict the great pretender 'Os' distortions of the truth. So we need to follow through and shut up the Lib/Dem leaders spin that they have been listening, yet we offer nothing! The cameras won't lie, unless Chicago politics enter into it, ha and it is just a Public Relations ploy? The good guys/gals better make sure they can speak and challenge the dubious Presidents inadequate misleading, evasive half truths or out right lies?! The general public is not all that swift, that's why so many foolishly elected the most unqualified, unreliable President ever! |
That the Democrats and Barack Obama consider we the people stupid, ignorant, gullible serfs. Many have already commented on the dangers Republicans face if they go along with this bait and switch farce, so it doesn't bear repeating. It will be curious however, to observe the reaction of the public at large at this concocted spectacle of a Kabuki Dance. |
invites opponents to share health reform ideas in front of the open doors, ha! President Obamas intent is to pretend 'Bi'Partianship', in order to claim Cons/Rep are still the party of NO! Nevertheless, we must try and have hope that the truth will out! |
There's no way the Republican party is stupid enough to accept. If they accept that implies they haven't voiced their alternative plans for the last year. What they should do is have a conference and tell everyone they have been telling Obama for the last year how to solve the problem and if Obama hasn't been listening than he's the "R" word. At this point what's there to discuss. If you're a politicians and you don't know the alternative opinions than you're probably in the wrong business.
Unfortunately, the Republicans will agree to the meeting. It's what they do. |
Someone needs to remind Mr. Obama, the supposed constitutional scholar, that congress represents the People and the People don't bow to the executive branch of the government.
Good article!
Yes, of course, the man and his presidency are nothing more than a walking charade. Smoke and mirrors.
Such a meeting would afford him yet another opportunity to conduct a dog and pony show to give him the veneer of being bipartisan and fair.
It'd be pretty stupid for Repubs to fall for that. |
Now THAT's a contradiction in terms.
Democrat's never want to debate, they just want to talk and have others agree with them. They claim to encourage diversity of opinion and act surprised when others disagree with them.
The thing about this health insurance reform and health care rationing bill is that it will insinuate the government into every aspect of your life.
Tell me, oh wise and patriotic liberal, why does the bill, as currently written, say that two people living together, each making $30k a year only pay $1500 a year for health care, but a married couple that each makes $30k a year have to pay $12,000 for theirs?
Look it up. I did. |
Republicans should:
1)show up in Congress with CSPAN cameras as Obama promised; 2) Take all 2,000 pages of existing bills and publically put them in a recycling dumpster; 3) demand start over publically with every word of the bill posted on the internet EVERY DAY or WALK OUT.
OBAMA DOES NOT DICTATE TO CONGRESS. Congressman have a sworn duty to represent the people and not to obey the orders of this clown.
CALL THE ARROGANT A$$ ON THE CARPET FOR HIS PRESUMPTIONS. |
'Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said, "we have promoted the pursuit of a bipartisan approach to health reform from day one."'
'Searchlight Harry' has become Obozo's 'Bagdad Bob', the spokes-hole who will spin and spout any unreal prevarication he may ask of him.
He has become laughable to anyone who bothers to properly inform themselves. His purpose has been reduced to entertaining the ignorant such as a clown does the children.
In November, the citizens of NV won't be laughing when they boot his sorry rump back to the desert salt flat shack from whence he crawled.
Calls on republicans to cooperate are now being proposed - by Obozo?
Republicans know by now that the Obozo Fascists' offer to cooperate is to use them for cover and deflect the anger that their power grab efforts have provoked. Any republican contact with them at this time is bound to be politically toxic. |
Excellent book referral , Who Really Cares. A copy on the way, and certainly evidence to refudiate those here that think otherwise (Axe's head may explode by having to accept this). |
Charlie just knows that Lucy won't pull the ball away THIS TIME!. hahaha. I hope they're not stupid enough to give Obama the photo op as mentioned by BrianR above. If they do, let's hope they make it clear that they've offered lots o' ideas that don't benefit unions or expand govt so the demlibs have rejected them out of hand.
Tyler - this book is bigger than a bumper sticker but it will enlighten you on who is generous with their blood, time, and money and who are liberals: "Who Really Cares" by Arthur Brooks. Brooks says that he started his study to prove that cons are really stingy but discovered the truth instead. |
Republicans should consider the possibility that Obama's invitation to them to meet with Democrats on national television to discuss healthcare may have the same motivation as the Invitation that Catherine d'Medici extended to her adversaries in France... |
Dear President Obama, I've watched this debate closely and intently. Truth is, your words seldom match your actions. You are still intent on saving your health bill and stuffing it down our throats. No, communicating better will change nothing. You and your Democrat progressives act like socialists and fascists. Therefore, to my Republican and Independent friends, please, please ignore his words and through the health care bill in the trash and insist the process start all over. Sincerely, skypastor |
descends again from her perch atop that tall pillar of moral superiority which she resides to commune again with those of us so beneath her, and lecture us how the dems are so open to debate.
Tell us why, o moral suprior one, why has "the one" only now decided to meet with Republicans instead of listening to them months ago, prior to his health care propsal being shredded and left for dead? Couldn't possibly be only politically motivated could it?
Republicans should shove this back in his face. |
"You don't want to help out those who need it."
I will volunteer to help you.
First I need to come over and see what is in your cupboards and fridge. We will be throwing out all food that is unhealthy and overly processed. Then we'll go shopping for the right food you must eat in order to maximize your health.
Next we're going to manage your exercise and activity vs your daily stress. Of course this will include getting rid of your unhealthy behaviors and coping mechanisms as well (ie smoking, excessive drinking etc).
Now, do you want my help? Or do you want to continue to live your life the way you chose to? I am okay with either way. But if you expect everyone to pay for your health insurance, you are going to get healthy. Considering that (conservatively) 70% of what ails you is a result of your lifestyle, its only fair you step up your game and stop playing victim as if its not your fault you get sick. |
Didn't Obamoa tell us all to shut up? He didn't want to hear from us, he's too busy with his mop, cleaning up the mess that others had made to listen to what other had to say. You know, he doesn't mind cleaning up the mess as long as we shut up and don't make any noise.
Interesting also that he blames that mess on the financial irresponsibility of of the prior administration (a fact that I tend to partially agree with), but what part of that mess did he oppose as a senator? Was there any spending bill he opposed as senator? Just curious. |
he'll agree, alright. Dems don't have a problem with open debate. its the Reeps who like actory type leaders, guys (and gals) who bluster forth with platitudes that pander to their conceits. Dems welcome debate, and any opportunity to think through their assumptions. Reeps are arrogant morons who think they have all the answers--which is why they always get their clocks cleaned in debate. |
Pretending that a meeting with president at his request will be productive is a fool's errand.
Repubs should meet with their counterparts only. |
Thanks Mr. President. Your blatant, disingenuous attempt to enhance the perception of collaboration is much appreciated. Let's see.....how will this roll out?
Step 1 - Offer, before the Super Bowl (so 50% of the nation is already drunk), to meet with those darned ol' Republicans. Check.
Step 2 - Meet with said Republicans and have it televised.
Step 3 - Offer a "compromise" to include across state line sales (you'll NEVER agree to tort reform, though, will you?).
Step 4 - manipulate one or two Progressive Republicans (Snowe or Collins) to vote for the bill.
Step 5 - Accuse the rest of being "obstructionist" and spend the next 8 months having daliy televised infomercials - courtesy of MSM - highlighting that "you tried".
Step 6 - A nation full of sheeple drinks your kool-aid.
Yu guys ar so smart, I are very gladd thate you ar ther to wauch out 4 me. |
has it all wrong and truly proves - what many of us have known since he came upon the scene - he (Barack Obama) has no idea what it takes to be POTUS. A true leader would have initiated this joint meeting one year ago - presented his version of health care reform (which should have been memorized by the genius Obama - after all 100 years in the making - one would think). He should have taken pertinent points from his own party big wigs and Republicans as well and put together a totally plain and clear bill which all Americans could understand, digest and accept or reject. But - LET'S BE PERFECTLY CLEAR - Obama's agenda had and has nothing to do with health care reform, or any other issue that will correct our problems - he is determined to somehow force his far left radical plan down the throats of all Americans - from health care, to cap and trade, to government control of every aspect of our society - like it or not. This President proves day after day - he thinks "we the people" are idiots and morons - not to be respected - Barack Obama has another think coming - he has awakened the sleeping giant. |
Good response to a moron.
By the way, Tyler, what ctiteria did you use in making the statement that "When you are rich You don't want to help out those who need it"? Certainly not the historic charitable contributions of those like Barry Obama and Joe Hairplugs Biden, right?
I would dare say that those who you consider rich (or, I'm sure your target - conservatives)give a much, much higher percentage of their income to charities, in addition to a much, much, much, much higher percentage of their income to non-charities like government taxes than those who you consider poor.
You are wrong when you think that those who you consider rich aren't concerned with helping those who have less. It's just that they are opposed to being coerced into giving.
Tyler, have you ever heard of CHIP or Medicaid? Do you know what these taxpayer funded programs do? Just in case you have not heard, these are programs for the poor that are funded mainly by those uncaring rich, through their income tax, while they also have to pay for their own health care. There is no free lunch.
This planned TV appearance by Barry, will it be like the last one? When only a single question could be asked and no followup allowed? That allows our esteemed leader to ignore the question and give his opinion without fear of anyone being able to confront that tactic. Nothing but another Barry press conference, complete with finger wagging and blaming all his troubles on every one but himself.
To avoid being used by Barry, I think the minority leadership should send Barry a letter, laying out the ground rules for this conference, rules for a truly open debate, and if he refuses to agree to the rules, them make the letter available to the public. If he does agree, then have the meeting and stick to their conservative points for any bill and refuse to go along the existing bill.
Why do your solutions always involve reaching into my pocket? I am not rich but I keep having to pay and pay and pay for the liberal nonsense in this country. |
Mr Obama, the other day at the Prayer Breakfast you asked us not to have to question your faith. But then you cannot get the simple idea of resting on the 7th day and leaving it alone. You keep thinking that we don't understand and you need to explain it all again and again... What you fail to understand is the idea of Boundaries.
CBS did themselves a disservice. We switched the channel when hearing about him being on, and didn't get back to the pregame show until much later. |
you cannot have a meeting with obama about HIS HEALTH CARE BILL when he doesn't have one..you must immediately inform the WH that unless obama gives you a copy of HIS health care bill one week before the meeting....THERE WILL BE NO MEETING. the community agitator knows that you can't intelligently discuss compromises. if onw side doesn't have a starting point.OBAMA HAS NO BILL...BOEHNER AND MCCONNELL TELL THE AGITATOR TO SHOVE IT! |

Funny how liberals were so upset because the Tebow ad was too political on this national day of 'football and family'. But when the President takes 30 minutes of pregame to promote his health-care bill, it's 'bipartisanship'. |
You are incorrect.
Most Americans are covered with health insurance, either privately or through their work. Around 1% (and I doubt that figure) do not have health insurance or do not want it.
We are going to destroy our economy and health care system for less that 1% of the population.
Now, THAT is stupidity on a grand scale. |
"why should a middle class family spend $1000 a month on healthcare? They shouldn't"
They shouldn't but the "progressives" require insurance to provide almost all healthcare at no cost. So instead of paying for your own basic healthcare expenses and then using insurance for catastrophic coverage, you have to pay extremely high insurance rates. And because a huge population refuses to pay for their own healthcare, the rest of us have to carry the freeloaders thereby increasing the health care costs. Having a single payer system doesn't change the fact that healthcare will still cost what it does (and will actually cost much more). It just attempts to change who pays for it. Again more of us paying for freeloaders. |
Way to go TH staff. You knocked this analysis out of the park. As galling and ridiculous as this gesture is, it at least shows how weak Obama is at this point that he has to try and resort to 'Potempkin' meetings in his latest attempt to con the public. Lame. |
There is already bipartisanship and consensus on the health care debate, and it is screaming a loud NO - reps better stick to their guns on this one or Obama will own the message, the MSM will p(r)imp the message, and the crack-head ignorant electorate with buy the message. |
I can see it now: Obama & Company just wagging their fingers at the GOPers for not "cooperating" in the theft of freedom this absurd bill represents.
If they're smart, the GOPers will use the opporunity (and cameras) to drive that point home to the American people. That Obamacare represents socialist fascism of the highest order.
You don't want to help out those who need it why should a middle class family spend $1000 a month on healthcare? They shouldn't
USA has best healthcare in the world - if you can afford it. Sadly, most cannot. |
The truth is that Democratic and Conservative approaches to Health Care are completely incompatible. One involves increasing government's role in providing health care services while the other involves expanding the freedom of private sector providers to offer options that are affordable and meet individual needs. One wants to move relentlessly toward a State run monopoly, the other promotes freedom of choice and limited government interference. One will cost trillions, the other will save billions. |
