Waxman Threatens to 'Physically Remove' Republican From Hearing
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 3:45 PM
All right, let's be serious. He threatens to have Darrell Issa (R- Calif.) physically removed, not to physically remove him himself, because that would certainly be a losing battle.

What was the dust-up over?
The issue: the nation’s top environmental regulator refused to say whether he had spoken with President Bush before deciding on a host of environmental policies. Waxman, a Democrat, wanted an answer. Issa, a Republican, had been cutting him off, insisting that lawmakers were supposed to take turns speaking, rotating from a member of one party to a member of the other.
Waxman's argument is, of course, that the overreaching evilness of the Bush administration is doing its dastardly deeds in the EPA and deigning to have influence on decisions made by an agency headed up by an administration appointee. Egads! It doesn't sound like much of a controversy to me.

Issa's argument:
Issa said that White House involvement in EPA activities was nothing new and happened in the Clinton administration, according to The Associated Press. Furthermore, said Issa, such involvement "is allowed" under the law.
Here's the video. It gets good around 2:15. Gotta love CSPAN!

Darryl Issa, cont'd
Issa proved himself valuable to the Bush administration during oversight hearings on illegal wiretapping, an executive power grab that Republicans now are uncomfortable as the legislative and executive powers now lies in the hands of Democrats.

Mary Kate, Darryl Issa is no friend to the American people. One has only to look at his history on the oversight panel to know that this man is truly partisan and truly looking out for his own bottom line.
KayAnn writes: Thursday, June, 25, 2009 10:12 AM
Darryl Issa
EPA's Johnson was ordered by President Bush's administration to act in a manner that went against California and other state's goal of reducing greenhouse gases. We know that Johnson was not working independent of the Bush administration's special interests, and Issa, at that time, sought to restrict oversight of his Party's administration. He had a pattern of doing just that while holding an important role in the oversight and reform panel while Bush was in office.

Issa's newfound goal of oversight as opposed to partisan obstruction would be admirable in this new administration if not for the years that Issa spent resisting and belittling attempts for holding the Bush administration accountable. His past performances on the committee illustrate how Mr. Issa will use his position now as a means for partisan grandstanding as opposed to actual reform and oversight.

During the Bush years as a member of the oversight committee, Issa was the defender of the worst conduct from President Bush. He continually belittled the panel's work during that time. Now he wants us to take him seriously?

Here's what Issa's known for: He defended Blackwater, and attacked the mothers of four defense contractors murdered in Iraq, implying that inquiries into Blackwater are akin to attacking the troops. In his own investigation into Blackwater, he found the connections led right to the GOP - only to backpedal and excuse the connection he so diligently sought to find (but had hoped with different results, we are left to conclude).

Issa's consistently opposed federal funding to help 9/11 rescue workers.

When Waxman talks
I hear, "Wah, wah, wah, wah,..." I cannot stop looking at his peculiar nostrils with the protruding prickly hairs. This happened to me in the 5th grade when I had a teacher with an extraordinarily huge, hairy mole on her cheek. I learned nothing that year.

Ditto Sloandog
Does Henry Waxman ever do anything else besides hold hearings? Would ya just like to take that gavel and.......ok i'm done! LOL!! Have a good day America!

Waxman GFYS
Waxman just kills me. What an absolutely pompous arrogant moron he is! Good for you Mr. Johnson, you did get flustered at all. If it was me, LOL! I would have quoted Dick Cheney, and told Henry Waxman to "Go F**K Yourself". I know folks...ya just can't use profanity, but LOL!! i woulda wanted too!

Stuff & nonsense, Kimberly.
Johnson was there to give information about policy, not to divulge the inner workings of the Executive branch. Waxman is only snorting his pig nose in matters that don't concern him because he is hoping to come up with some truffle that might give him cause to hold more hearings on imagined & manufactured shortcomings of the Bush administration.
C'mon, the man is transparent when he nearly leaps out of his chair to bang the gavel against anyone questioning his interrogation methods.
Go troll somewhere else.

Hearings, hearing, hearings.
Waxie, you've been in the power seat for close to two years. Since that time, my gas price has almost doubled.

So, all you can do is a hearing? How about flipping doing something?

How about this?
Waxman, how about trimming up those nose hairs once in awhile? Maybe people would take you a little more seriously.
Perceptor II writes: Wednesday, May, 21, 2008 8:22 PM
Wow.
Issa is a bit out of line, but I can understand why he's upset. Waxman comes across as a little man in a big chair, someone who is a bit too impressed with his own chairmanship. Fortunately we also had Stephen Johnson in the clip to show how a grown-up behaves.

That's how Dems end all debates
"I want to see the rule where it says you get to monopolize the proceeding"

"We'll send you the documentation. Now STFU."

Umm hmm, I see why you think it's so funny.
sloandog writes: Wednesday, May, 21, 2008 5:32 PM
klib,where was the debate?I
I saw a heavy handed suppression of the first amendment.Isn't that what libs are always hanging their hats on?
Cubsfan writes: Wednesday, May, 21, 2008 5:17 PM
Screw Waxman
Does Waxman think he is king. Issa has a right to speak. Hey Waxman ever heard of the first amendment?
Pasadena Phil writes: Wednesday, May, 21, 2008 5:03 PM
Every time I see Waxman
I can't help being reminded of the opening scene in the movie "Scanners" where his look-alike's head blows up.

Waxboy
never saw a hearing he didn't like.Does he ever do any real work?

And for the record
Bullying, threatening, and beating with the gavel are the tactics of somebody who lost the debate.
E Pluribus Unum writes: Wednesday, May, 21, 2008 4:39 PM
Waxie is an idiot and a bully
I DO like the way that Johnson never wavered once from his guns, and at the end basically told Waxie where to stick it. And Issa is BEYOND cool.
