Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain and the new Democratic frontrunner Barack Obama are trading jabs over Iraq policy with nary a word from Hillary Clinton.
The spat started when Obama said in the Democratic presidential debate last night he would permit stirkes in "if al-Qaida is forming a base in Iraq" in Cleveland, Ohio.
This morning McCain told reporters he has "some news" for Obama at a stop in Tyler, Texas. "Al-Qaida is in Iraq," McCain said.
"It's called 'al-Qaida in Iraq," he quipped. Apparently, McCain struck a nerve with Obama. The Illinois senator indignantly responded, "I have some news for John McCain and that was that there's no such thing as al-Qaida in Iraq until George Bush and John McCain decided to invade Iraq!"
Obama also said, "I've got some news for John McCain: he took us into a war, along with George Bush that should have never been authorized or waged. They took their eye off hte people who were responsible for 9/11, and that would be al Qaida in Afghanistan that is stronger now than anytime since 2001."

Sounds like McCain got Obama to admit that indeed, Al-Qaeda IS in Iraq.
And since Obama says he would want to use the military to fight Al-Qaeda "if" they were in Iraq, he is thus saying that...he actually agrees with our current policy of fighting Al-Qaeda in Iraq !

Neither of these is the issue here. And McCain better sharpen his sword because his comebacks are good but not lethal enough.
The thing is, Obama basically said last night, in SO MANY words, that he would quickly withdraw troops from Iraq. This satisfies the Democrat's political imperative and makes him look like a new kind of anti-imperial president. But then al Qaeda rears its head again, stronger, like a herpes virus. Obama tried to dodge the use of military action, but he implied he would send the troops back.
So this is what we have...a man who wants to use our military like a police force (or continue to do so if you ask some)...except he thinks its redeemable because we're not concentrated on one country alone. One day its bombinb Pakistan, the next someplace else. What happens if al Qaeda finds safe haven in Malaysia or southern Thailand? Is he going to send a special force to take them out.
He would risk instability in one place just to have to quell it in another? That is the weakness in his statement. |

But even if you didn't support the Iraq war; didn't Senator Obama admit ALQ is in Iraq, so why leave?
See even if the "Looser-In-Chief" was wrong; ALQ is there now, so again why do we leave if we're just going to have to turn around and go back?

How does the decision of others to take out Sadam Hussein, excuse Barack Obama's present (and apparently complete) ignorance of whether al-Qaida is presently operating in Iraq? The point is that he can't begin to form a rational foreign policy if he doesn't know even the basic outline of the current situation. Or is his solution to hop in his time machine and run for federal office in 2000 to record his preference then? The fact that this particular bit of Obama sophistry has been accepted and even praised by many in the media, and at least one poster on this site, is more evidence of the dumbing down of the political discourse in this election. |

... it will be the result of his (and the Democrats) backward-looking, defeatist stand on the Iraq War. I have GOT to believe the average American would prefer to see America succeed in Iraq, rather than retreat in disgrace. But maybe I'm too out-of-touch with the common man. |

Every person in America who wears a military uniform takes an OATH to swear or (affirm) allegiance to our U.S. Constitution, "We The People...". Every elected professional, political parasite in our country takes the same OATH of office. They have violated their OATH of OFFICE!
The spineless, whining mugwumps in D.C. do not have the gonads to vote FOR the Semper Fi Act, the Patriot Act and the Protect America Act. Why? Because the far left Socialist pinkos will not vote for them and the corporate and lawyer lobbyists of the far left will not send them money. This means they means they will lose their positions of power.
Our country has enemies within our gates outside our borders, round the world and those cowards in Washington, D.C. do nothing but profile, subpoena and investigate Republicans and the use of steriods by idiot athletes while our country and our warriors are in danger round the world.
We all know that POWER is the ONLY thing they are concerned about. They do not give a rat's @$$ about me, you, our military, our safety, their family or our country. Our U.S. Constitution means nothing to them. Their best lie is:"We support the troops, but not the wars". RIGHT OBAMA? Obama's stance on the Muslim extremist is, 'I will surrender to Al Qaeda in Iraq to appease the Muslim Jihadists round the world and I will have tea with Ahmadinejad, Hamas, Hezbollah, Asad and smoke a good cigar and bit of rum with my buddies Hugo and Raul if elected'. 'I will sit down with the people who want to kill ALL INFIDELS in the world who do not convert to Islam during their deadly determination of caliphate to rule the world by their Imam and governed by the Quar`an and Sharia law'. --- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQhjaCgAS80 "Surrender Is Not An Option" John Bolton, Ambassador http://ussainc.johnmccain.com/Manage/MyTeam/ManageTeam.aspx |

"But maybe I'm too out-of-touch with the common man."
As most polls put opposition to the war at about 2/3rds of the electorate, I'd say you are.
I think I'd be more curious to have a poll done of the Iraqis to see how many of the people we're liberating would like to be liberated from us.
"Our U.S. Constitution means nothing to them."
I don't know what reality you've been living in the last seven years, but this applies equally to the President, his lackeys, and the Republican Congress.
So if you're planning on marching to Washington to hang the lot of them, I'd suggest bringing at least 537 nooses. |

How funny, crowd cheers as Obama avoids the point. Are they on drugs?? Let's start again -- Senator Obama, sir, you said that you would pull out of Iraq but if ALQ set up there you would go back in. Now you say, of course I know they are there. Senator Obama, sir, then what the hell are you saying? Yes, Senator, we understand Bush sent troops in; can you give a clue as to where you stand on this issue...Yes, Yes we know Bush sent the troops several years ago. Is there any possiblity that you will give a direct answer? I see; suspicions confirmed - empty suit!!! |

AQ was in Iraq before invasion, it's been documented and proven. The lie that they weren't is just that, a lie promoted and promogated by the traitorous anti-war factions on the left that you draw your support and money from. |
