Kleins From the Right and the Left Say Palin's Out
Posted by: Jillian Bandes at 10:06 PM
From Philip Klein at the American Spectator:
Carol at Alarming News believes Palin's political career is over, and writes, "What (Palin) had, more than anything else, was a toughness and a dedication to her position. She blew all that with her announcement today."

This is exactly right. It may not be fair, but to succeed, a female politician has to come off 10 times tougher than any man -- "Iron Lady" Margaret Thatcher being the most obvious example. One of the things that Palin had going for her was that she was, as Cindy McCain described her during the Republican National Convention, a "hockey-mommin' ... basketball shootin' ... moose huntin' ... fly-fishin' ... pistol-packing ... mother of five." She had been nicknamed "Sarah Barracuda," and took on the "good ole' boys" who controlled Alaska politics.

However, to all but her most loyal supporters, today's bizarre press conference made her look brittle -- like a person who couldn't take the heat and was buckling in the face of attacks. Today's move is perfectly understandable if she wants to give up politics and protect her family from the blistering assaults of the media and her political opponents. Maybe this news -- odd within the political realm -- actually makes her a pretty normal person by real world standards. But normal people do not get elected president.

From Ezra Klein at the Washington Post:

The main thing I'd point out about Sarah Palin's dazzlingly incoherent farewell is that it's pretty clear she wrote it herself. The proof is in the punctuation. The transcript was posted to her official Web site earlier today. The style is closer to a high schooler's angry diary entry than to an official speech. I've read a lot of speech transcripts. They tend to have fewer words in all capital letters. And fewer things in quotation marks that aren't actually, you know, quotes. And I've never seen an official speech transcript, written by an actual speechwriter, that contains this:

*((Gotta put First Things First))*

And that's not even getting into the self-pitying shots at the press, the fact that she mocked those who take "the quitter's way out" in a speech dedicated to quitting, or this agonizing sports metaphor.......this looks like the impulsive decision of an impulsive politician. It doesn't exactly scream president-in-waiting.

Me- Of course you don't. Tell me, what was the Dow at in 2002? Where was it in 2005? If anything, Obama has done some good there. Most people in January were predicting it was going to hit 5000, he's managed to get it back up to 8300.

And he hasn't proposed a tax increase yet. He also hasn't proposed even repealing Bush's foolhardy tax cuts on the rich.
_______________________________________________

I do believe that in 2005, the Dow was at about 10,700 and 12,300 at the end of 2006.

Obama has proposed a tax increase to those making over 250k. Repealing Bush tax cuts would then require that all people be assessed a tax increase, which he promised NOT to do. I guess he won't be keeping that promise. In addition, he is proposing to tax everyone's healthcare benefits along with a so-called tax on sugar, cigarettes, soft-drinks, etc. Also, the tax & trade will increase taxes for everyone once again.

No economic gain from any of them. Tax revenues will continue to fall as long as the unemployment rate continues to climb.

Absolutely! Right now at 9.5% unemployment going up (25 yr high) and the market at about 8300 (which is 1325 pts below when Obam was elected), don't see that happening.

In addition, the measures that he is undertaking don't translate to improving the economy. Higher taxes won't generate more revenue.-

get ready for a woman president

We'll elect Sarah Palin if she runs in 2011,

The first American woman president. For all you scoffers, meet her now and have the privilege of taking her to the White House. Or, keep belittling her; your hatred won't mean a thing. We're used to being hated by small minds.

You helped Obama and Biden get the job, didn't you? Does it somehow make you proud?

Of what? --Small minds forget; to be re-elected a president must be able to point at some small success he was responsible for. At least. Obama's well on the way to becoming another peanut farmer.

His wasteful and hazardous policies are already a flop.

The only thing worse Carter handled than this party animal is we had a four-year gas shortage then. If fuel gets more expensive in coming months, Obama will be the complete Jimmy Carter. Who represents Democrats after that?

BIDEN? The moron can't count up to four. He thinks JOBS is 3 letters.

He had Roosevelt appearing on television in 1929. He's the laughing stock of American politics.

Liberals who can't see any intelligence in Sarah should look at Joe. You got that cartoon character just a heartbeat away from our presidency and haven't a clue how he got there!

Sarah seems like Columbia the glittering Gem of the Ocean, compared to that mop bucket.

Hasn't it occurred to you, Sarah Palin is a FREE American citizen You have no authority over her. She had her baby on account of he makes her happy. It isn't important to make you happy, Schmuck."

Me- Yup, she can indulge her Christian fantasies by being an irresponsible baby machine and breeding like a queen termite, and the rest of us can pay for it...

I just wonder, When Trig's 40, and Mom and Dad are dead and all the money they've squeezed out of sheep like you is gone. (Come on, the woman spent $50,000 redecorating her office, spent $150,000 on clothes during the campaign and owes $500,000 in legal bills. What will she do for money when her 15 minutes are up?) What will happen to little Trigger. I guess his "Nephew" who is the same age can invite him to live with him in the trailer park in Walissa.

But, hey, as you say, that's her choice. My problem is you nutters want to take away everyone else's choice (which is the point Bob made that flew right over your head) and maybe kill the doctors for good measure...

When she was pregnant the possibility of her giving birth to anything but a baby was nill she carried our children.

Me- Yawn. This discussion was tiresome two days ago... Why should your other kids have to take care of your son? Or society in general, for that matter, which is where most of them end up.

Here in Chicago, we have a place called the "Howe Developmental Center". It's a home for all these Down Syndrome victims when they stop being "cute" and their families don't want to be bothered with them anymore. Since 2005, 31 patients have died there. The Federal Government cut off funding. The State of Illinois is keeping it open despite massive public pressure to close it.

Why? Because the FAMILIES of these people don't want them. Because nobody wants the "community based" homes for these people in their communities.

So please don't tell me I am being mean and ascribe things to me I never said (Never said, "worthless", although you keep claiming I did) because I point out the obvious. We do these kids no favors bringing them into the world.

But I think that if you are going to have a kid, you need to be responsible about it, and having a kid at 42, when your chance of bringing a Down Baby into the world drops from 1 in 1000 to 1 in 35 is as patently irresponsible as drinking a pint of Jack Daniels every day during your pregnancy...

On his TV show, early in the Clinton administration, Limbaugh put up a picture of Socks, the White House cat, and asked, 'Did you know there's a White House dog?' Then he put up a picture of Chelsea Clinton, who was 13 years old at the time and as far as I know had never done any harm to anyone.

McCain reportedly told a "joke" about Chelsea Clinton in 1998, saying: "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno."

Nobody attacked her baby
"Liberal bloggers went after her baby
distorting his features on a magazine cover. Democrats actually attacked a baby with Downs syndrome.

Liberals can't go lower than that so where do they go from here?"

Me- Noboby attacked her baby. They attacked the notion that she went ahead and HAD a baby at 42, even though any doctor would have told her she had a very high probability of a Downs Baby at that age, and she went ahead with the pregnancy because she wanted to score points with the crazy anti-Abortion crowd.

TX gal: that's some small beans next to the way LaHood, Barry, Michey, Rahm and Axelrod raped the taxpayers of IL, time and time again.

Fed indictments. I guess that would make sense. Crucify her for things that the CHI crowd did/do on a daily basis and to a MUCH greater level. Take her out early, so that she never has the chance to 'road race' Barry. HE would win in the 'corruption' division, that's for sure.

Hey TX: if they DO indict her, I am sure you will join with me and call for indictments of all the CHI crew now in DC.

IF corruption is really your concern, you'll agree!

Well, at least she WROTE her speech. Sure, she's got a folksy style. Some folks like that, some don't, big whoop.

While not polished, I followed her line of thought easily enough. Maybe its because I am a redneck hick in flyover country?

Barry, gave a yawner of an inaugural address, rambling, incoherent. The guy can't even bluff his way out when TOTUS goes down. HE got where he is 'cause of his look, and 'cause of his puppet masters.

It doesn't appear Sarah has puppet masters, which is so refreshing. The lack studied 'professionalism' is not nearly so off-putting to some of us, as it is to you.

And again, the fact that she is resigning as Guv troubles me not. Good on her for deferring to her LT, a fine conservative who put all his attention on the job.

Too bad Barry didn't resign his senate seat while campaigning. We still had to pay him, perk him and give him offices during the whole ordeal, when he was RARELY doing his job.

I like this new matrix: you want to go in another direction, you resign your post, transition responsibly and give your constituents a full time keeper of the office. Not a double-dipper afraid of losing all those lovely governmental perks.

I heard all the same comments about Reagan from the "Enlightened Ones" such as yourself. Reagan was stupid. Just an actor. And then somehow he reversed the sh*thole of a mess that Carter left us, won the Cold War without firing a shot, and re-energized the American brand here at home and around the rest of the world.

And now it's Bush that's "stoopid." I'll tell you what--I'll take a Texan with a steely spine who can't speak in public over a smooth talking, spineless, empty suit Chicagoan any day of the week.

Now to Palin. She gave an incredibly weak candidate a fighting chance at victory, in a year where Republicans had little chance of winning even with a great presidential candidate. A once in a century economic meltdown is what got this protege of Mr. Alinsky elected, not his policies, not his anti-war anti-surge stances, nor his charm or charisma. She was the Jim Kirk to this Enterprise's torn and unsalvageable hull. Sadly, though, in life unlike the movies, the No Win Scenario is actually lost....

What absolute drivel. "What would Sarah Palin do if she faced a hostile foreign nation as, say, Iran?" I actually laughed out loud when I read that. She'd be a helluva lot tougher on ALL our enemies than our current leftist president, and would certainly be more appreciative of our allies. Obama can't even stand up for the political dissidents fighting for freedom and liberty against the tyrannical mullahs. And you ask what would Palin do? You people live in a frickin dream world. None of your world view is based on reality. You and your kind actually make me sick to my stomach.

Oh, my God!
I don't even know what to say. To hear anyone say that Sarah Palin is smart, or a good thing for the Republican party, or in any way ready for the presidency...I'm shocked. The only smart thing she has done is wink a lot. She certainly was smart enough to use her looks to get her somewhere. And, she's smart enough to get out while she can - and make tons of money in appearance fees and books. But, believe me, no one shows up to hear her brilliant political analysis - they show up to see her wink, and to potentially be present for another grammatical train wreck. I just don't get how so many smart people (Republicans are not, by nature, stupid) could produce the likes of GW and Palin. Very strange. But, then again, with Rush Limbaugh as the only other spokesman for the party, what are you going to do?

Can't take the Heat? Yah right!
Maybe you are sucked into the selfish world that we live in. People are expected to do what is in the best interest for themselves. Well every now and then someone may come along that doesn't fit the ideals of the current conventions. Maybe, just maybe, Sarah Palin is truly doing something selfless - Protecting her family. If that is the case, I would NEVER fault her. It is ignorant to characterize her as weak.
vonryansexpress writes: Saturday, July, 04, 2009 12:06 AM
Imagine how she can strike fear now.
You can't unleash on others when you've a position of responsibility in our society.

The crotch level insults against her and her family by the MSM marginals and the ratings hunters such as Letterman were free, face punches until this afternoon.

I'd suspect that unleashed, Ms. Palin will be able to throat punch some hostiles. All in all, the left understood her good manners and constraints and abused it.

Payback may come via huge speaking engagements, lots of favorable popular sentiment and a woman that will be able to confront low brow citizens such as Andrew Sullivan without the strictures of her office.

Whatever her intentions, she's due support from those of us that consider ourselves dignified Americans with notions of right and wrong and the difference between the proper and the grotesque.

"Honi soit que mal y pense", Sarah.
