We will be conducting some routine cyber-maintenance tomorrow and Sunday, so posting will not resume until it is completed, though all existing links will be working.
I'll take the opportunity to plod through the Red County Magazine Half Marathon tomorrow morning along with TriGeekDream's Big Kahuna, and to do some Christmas shopping. Should you need suggestions, here's the essential book list, and add to it Mark Steyn's wonderful Passing Parade.
I see that some Rudy and McCain fans are trumpeting the Globe's non-story on Mitt Romney's landscaping company using illegal aliens as a campaign killer. Sorry, Flap and Pat, but stretching to assist the Globe in the preposterous idea that Romney's landscaping company's employment practices are an issue suggests desperation at Romney's early momentum rather than discernment of a political event's significance. Can anyone imagine Senator McCain or Mayor Giuliani arguing in public that they are better candidates for the presidency because their landscaping companies didn't use labor with proper documents?
The Globe story tells us a lot more about the Globe's animus towards Romney (and its amazing double standard --where's the investigation into Kerry's landscape contractor at his five homes?) than it does about anything else, and certainly nothing about Romney's electability. It does give us a glimpse of how the candidate will react to sudden and potentially negative news: Romney refused to be stampeded into a statement and began immediately to fashion a coherent response. As both Fred Barnes and Morton Kondracke agreed on tonight's show, it isn't a story of any consequence except it indicates again that the MSM has its knives out early and pointed only in the direction of the Republican candidates.

Hugh: Wow what an earth shattering story on Mitt Romney by the Globe Trotting Investigative Reporters. Maybe they'll dig up some real dirt on Romney like say...he kept the headphones from a transatlantic flight on 2 occasions and asked for an extra pair of Plane footies once when he was in route to his LDS Mission in France or maybe something as inane as Gov. Romney taking 5 tooth picks or more on multiple occasions from an Olive Garden after eating there. I theorize that Romney is so smart as evidenced by the great job he did with the 2002 Olympics. He beefed up security for the Games and saw this as a chance to pump these Hispanics on their use of Coyotes border smugglers and picked their brains about our non-existence borders. This info will used by him to build the US a real border when he is President. Additionally I think Romney was teaching the Gardeners English. He lives by the Philos of give a hungry man a fish feed him for a day teach him to fish feed him for a life time! "Why are they all AWOL?"http://www.proenglish.org/news/summer2003.html "Mitt Romney is the first politician, Republican or Democrat or Independent, who has come out in favor of English language teaching for immigrant children. Not even . . . President [Bush] has." --- Dr. Rosalie Porter, co-chairman of Massachusetts English for the Children, in MassNews, April 16, 2003. Dr. Porter was commenting on the newly elected Governor of Massachusetts, Republican Mitt Romney, whose open support for Question 2, a citizens' initiative ending bilingual education, was passed by Massachusetts voters by a landslide margin of 68 percent in 2002. I rest my Theory Hugh these reporters are so Transparent and their Globe is one of Nonsense interesting only for these Metro-Sexual crack Reporters!

Yeah I wish I could remember where I heard it but Pelosi hires many illegals. I think it was on the Factor or Hannity. Regardless she owns three businesses. A vinyard which hires illegals, a hotel yep illegals and a 17 chain resturant, you guessed it, illegals.
I dont know what we can do but this double standard by the lamestream is outta hand. It just cost us the majority and will cost us the white house in 08. Some how we need to get the truth out. That is all, laters. |

Hugh, here's the e-mail I just sent to the two Globe reporters whose by-lines were on the this non-story.
******************
Ms. Cramer and Mr. Saltzman --
I just read your non-story on Mitt Romney and the fact that illegal immigrants "toiled" for him.
Puhleeze.
First of all, these workers did not toil for him; they worked for a putatively legitimate landscaping company that Governor Romney hired in good faith. What is the governor supposed to do? Ask for legal papers for every worker who is at one remove from him in the company he hires? At the restaurants he patronizes? Should he ask the maître d' at every restaurant, "Gee, could I see the papers of your short order cook before I order?"
Second, where was your or The Globe's great reportorial sleuthing on the 5 homes that John Kerry owns? Where you out there poking around at his landscaping companies? Or accosting his housekeepers? Somehow, I have the feeling you just never got around to it.
You see, this is why vast swaths of the American public find mainstream publications like yours putrid. For you, and those like you, hypocrisy --even a jerry-rigged-cranked-up hypocrisy like this one -- is worse than no morals at all. Of course, you and your MSM ilk can't even grasp your own contradictions, seeing as how your own hypocrisy is in full flower as you gleefully go after Romney but give Kerry a pass.
Don't you see? This is why no one is interested in buying your paper anymore. This is why you are "toiling" in a dying profession. No one cares what you find important. Because what you find important is trivial. |

Hugh:
Love the blog and we at Ankle Biting Pundits appreciate the link.
However, please note that I did not write the post you have attributed to me; my fellow blogger Bull Dog Pundit did -- and he is not fan of Sen. McCain ;-)
He pretty much shares your opinion of the Globe story. He wrote:
"Personally I don’t think the story is a big deal. It’s not a “nanny” problem in that there’s no indication that Romney or his family directly hired these people. Rather, they hired a lawn-care service that was solely responsible for hiring their workers and for checking their legal status. Are the Romney’s - or any Presidential candidate of either party - supposed to check the immigration status of every person that is not directly hired by them? I don’t think so."

I haven't written anything on the matter, though I, too, think this is a silly non-story.
Again, many thanks for the link. |

They aren't looking in Red Nancy's vineyard with its non-union employess either. Why don't they do everyone a favor and locate Capt. Jamil Hussein? Now that would be some good investigative reporting. |
