Buyers' Remorse At The DNC
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 8:35 AM
Hillary gave a great speech which had the effect of diminishing the actual nominee.  Many have commented that Michelle Obama did not seem particularly cheery throughout, and why would she be?  Earlier in the day Bill Clinton had all but predicted her husband's defeat (the "can't deliver" language), and now Hillary was looking great and communicating one message: But for our crazy rules, I'd be the nominee and we'd be 15 point ahead.

Poor Mark Warner --the keynote that wasn't.  It was Hillary's night, and despite the assured nomination of Obama, it is looking like Hillary's week.  Four years go by in a blink, and if Obama loses,Hillary will surely be the nominee in 2012.  And there's no way Obama will have been vetted for her short list.

UPDATE: The WaPo reports that many Hillary delegates remain uncommitted to Obama.  Of course that's the result.  They have begun to work on 2o12.

UPDATE 2: A fine bit of e-mail analysis of the Hillary speech:

based on 3 decades of Clinton observation, if i were Hillary's Brain
(shudder!), here are the goals i would have set for my speech tonight.

1. Make Them Sorry They Didn't Nominate Me.

2. Throw The Kid the Di Minimus Support That I Can Get Away With, Without
Being Called A "Traitor" And Tossed Out of the Party

3. Make Them Sorry They Didn't Nominate Me.

4. Remind Them of All My 2008 Campaign Themes, Getting Them Ready For My
2012 Campaign

5. Make Them Sorry They Didn't Nominate Me

6. Show Them That I Have A Much More Polished and Professional Political
Demeanor Than The Kid

7. Make Them Sorry That They Didn't Nominate Me

8. Warm Them Up For Bill Tomorrow, Who Will, probably,  "BRING THE HOUSE
DOWN", as ONLY Bill Clinton Can do

9. Do Nothing Substantive to Stauch the Anger of My Feminist, Middle Age
Base at Barrack Obama

10 Lay the Groundwork for the Largest "I Told You So!" in Democratic Party
History

i'd say that she OVERPERFORMED ON ALL THOSE GOALS,

when the Useful Idiots in the "Corporate Media" have had a few days to
digest and analyze Hillary's speech, the MSM will get around to realizing
just how LITTLE she really did for Obama...YES her support for the
DEMOCRATIC PARTY was high, wide and handsome..but Barry got just little
enough to say "she did what she had to do"

THE REAL STORY IS THAT THIS IS THE FIRST SPEECH THAT REALLY LOOKED LIKE A
DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION...the first day and a half (sans Teddy The Pretender)
was even DULLER than a Republican Convention (the sine qua non by which all
other political dullness MUST NEEDS be judged)....

IF (and it's a LARGE "IF") Bill behaves himself tomorrow, and doesn't jump
off the verbal and rhetorical cliff, and rises to one of his Best
Performances, it will echo most of HRC did her tonight, present Herself (and
by implication, Himself) as The Indispensible Man for 2012...

Amazes me, you part of this blog: you ain't Christian Evange by a mile; not Catholic, rising up in mighty defense of Doctrine; not redneck fo' sho', fo'ty fo'; not Marystella (I give ya credit for protecting her from the wolf at the door; shows ya chivalrous side); not an angry young reprobate like Charity; not a closet racist; not a fanatic military (no service, if I'm correct); etc. I could go on.

All I can conclude is, your Mom got angry and threw a toaster at you when you was little; it came back to haunt ya in later life.

playing the race card on him, and trying to tarnish his
record during the primaries ... but, because of the
disingenuous DNC, and Obama, and their putting party
above country, and blackmailing the Clintons into
supporting Obama ... using their debt and Hillary's
future in politics as their leverage, the Clintons have
been strong armed into supporting Obama. Why should a
successful and respected two term President like
Bill Clinton have to stoop to the ambitions of the far
left DNC, and their upstart, empty suit candidate ...
while Obama and the DNC disingenuously pretend that everybody has

I know about the Electoral College, thank you. However, the state by state polls are not done as frequently as the national polls, so the map at RCP is not current. If you've been watching, you'll know that your boy wonder has been sliding on the electoral map as well.

My point is, I don't think it's ever happened that one candidate overtakes his opponent during the week of the opponent's party's convention.

The Democratic train wreck is starting to look more and more like a plane crash.

Suggestion for GOP convention
For the GOP convention, I would like to see the following (and would not be surprised to see them) as additional keynote speakers: McCain’s vice president (for obvious reasons), Pres. George W. Bush, Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, Colin Powell, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rudy Giulianim, and other former Rep. presidential contenders including Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and/or Fred Thompson. Some other individuals to consider as speakers or participants: Cindy McCain and their children; McCain’s sons who are currently serving in the military; Sen. Joe Lieberman; Dr. James and/or Shirley Dobson or another high profile Evangelical leader; and, a Vietnam war veteran, preferably one who served alongside McCain. I would also like to see a biography similar to the one featured about Obama, though it would have more substance since McCain has had more life experience and a more compelling life story! The message should focus on McCain’s long history of public service and experience, his conservative Republican or traditional American values while remaining a “maverick,” his qualifications to be commander-in-chief and his ability to get things done while working with both sides of the political aisle. When Pres. Bush or former NY mayor Rudy Giuliani get on stage, I hope they emphasizes the fact that this nation has remained safe from another major terrorist attack since 9/11 (esp. with anniversary coming up) - and that McCain is the best candidate to pass on that monumental task of protecting this country.

Watching Dems.' face on the convention floor, while her highness Hillary was speaking, Priceless!
Her speech, for the people on the floor, and the women who adore Clintons, was the greatest and quite moving.
You could tell, from the awe in their face, wondering regretfully, why she is not our nominee?
Honestly,
She surely is a better candidate than Obama, and as a Republican, I am delighted she is not on the ticket!
Democrats for some reason are very confused, and that is good for now!
Biden, seals Obama's loss.

This is most enjoyable....
People are wanting McCain to campaign a little more aggressively, but why should he? He's safe on the Carpathia watching the Titanic go down....
All he needs to do is stick an oar in the water every now and then to remind people he's still there.
The bemused look on his face lately says it all....
The show they're putting on in the streets of Denver is the perfect reminder to America of the kind of freaks and miscreants that gravitate to the Democrat Party, and this election will be remembered as one of the great train wrecks for a long, long time.....
I absolutely can't wait to read the screechy posts from the lefties in November....!

Giselle/Kimberly, saw that link in a different post. It's all good.

As for the hurricane, Obama better hope it doesn't interfere with the GOP convention. If it does, Obama, as usual, will get off-message, and try to make an issue of Bush/McCain and Katrina. The message would resonate with dems, who will love it, but the undecided independents out there will shake their head, and say "yeah yeah we get it, but why vote for Obama? change? hope? where's the beef?"

The conventions don't mean squat, they are just free advertising.

The real action is the debates. The debates is where people will learn the most, and decide.

That's actually so breathtakingly stupid that I hardly know where to begin. Suffice it to say it's not that either of those two were that great. It's that the rest of the field looked more like the Saturday night crowd at the Mos Eisley Cantina than serious candidates for POTUS. And yes, Joe Biden, this includes you.

By the way, and this is primarily for the Southern Californians, I heard last night that our favorite slick butch lawyeress* Gloria Allred is, not only a delegate, not only a Hillary delegate, but a PUMA for Hillary. One loud, obnoxious, media-attention-whore woman lawyer supporting another loud, obnoxious, media-attention-whore woman lawyer. Perfect. It doesn't get any better than that.

Hugh,

Good points.

Here is an article from the Wall Street Journal that uses history to explain why Joe Lieberman would be a terrible pick for McCain and the Republican party.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121979692393374851.html?mod =opinion_main_commentaries

This clarifies, better than any other argument I have seen, why McCain better pick Romney or someone very similar.

(I wish I could send in a hundred bucks to keep the Democratic convention running right up to election day. What a fiasco.)
